What is Love?

Love is, to me, just a dream you will one day turn into a nightmare. It expires, like every emotion and feeling, but it grips you with talons that sometimes cut deep and don't let go until it wants to drop you. Then you wake up falling, realizing that dream was a distorted view of reality, and it all comes crashing down with you.

When it ends you find both, or just one of you, hurt and desperate to fill that vacuum - addicted to that dream you don't ever wake up from.

“The active caring and concern for the health and well-being of another person’s body and heart. Active. Not passive.”

In a nutshell, you remember that person all the time. You never forget them. You factor their existence into yours every single hour of every single day. No matter what you’re doing. And you never leave them locked up somewhere to die.

Reviving this thread, just to put my thoughts down.

I'm yet to fully flesh out this character on Chaos, but when I wrote as him on another board, love was his core story. He fell in love with a woman, as he planned to free his homeworld, which was enslaved by the Sith Empire. He loved his people as well, so he began a rebellion that culminated in a Dark Lord of the Sith burning his world before his eyes, as penance for his crimes against the Sith, followed by the r-word of his loved one right in front of him. Then said woman was killed.

Fleshing out the way in which he lost the pieces of himself that made up who he was, based on this loss, was a journey in itself because that's how I felt IRL. The story culminated in the death of several members of a Jedi family- who had refused to help him during the rebellion- as well as the said Dark Lord, the entire Sith Order and then the Sith Empire itself. He's actually stuck on Csilla right now, at the bottom of an ice cavern, after losing a massive battle there.

This is my interpretation of love. It is horrible. Destroys the soul. Makes you lose who you are.

Love is letting the other person have the last bite of brownie sundae because you want to.

Right [member="Verie Lacroix"]?
Love is birthing a holoball team (including a second string) when you only wanted one ;)

Love means different thigns to different characters. Some of my characters have had it, others not. In no particualr order:

Vorhi's love is entirely past-tense at this point. Part of that is the reason he plays the bitter drunk act so often, but really, he lost the last person he loved to violence, and he doesn't have a knack at living peacefully, so he avoid the idea of love itself pretty handily.

Olidiv Kenu never really loved people, he just loved life. Dude's a hedonist and flirt, he doesn't love, because love's a commitment, and why would a millionaire playboy mercenary actor commit to one lover? It wouldn't sell well in the tabloids, that's for sure.

Olom was part of a entire species of cold, intentionally emotionless geniuses, and that was before he became a Sith. He views love as the most dangerous and temperamental of passions--powerful, but nearly impossible to control. And he dislikes anything that isn't controllable.

Mr. Ash/Amaranth was a love story, but not a romantic one. His love was familial, and it was to the Black Suns. That's why he lived for them, and that's why he "died" for them. Amaranth is not Ash, but she's not not Ash, either. Hard to say where her true feelings are. But Ash was a true, sincere, and genuinely loving droid--despite being designed as a professional hitman originally. :D

Mayhem was never loving, although she did show a fraternal respect for other warriors, droid or organic. That was her way.

Jeffar was twisted, I don't know what love would have even meant to his addled mind. Could mean slavish devotion, could mean abducting and a stalker thing, maybe a little of both. Hooray for playing mentally unstable messes!

Sugar is just too much demon for one person to handle, I think.

50H31....I don't know yet. Still need to explore his inner workings a bit better. I think right now, he'd view love as yet another curious ideal of the organics.
