What Hides In The Dark?[Padawans]

Korriban Orbital Station
Hangar B

“Come on guys, this will be fun.” Lira's voice rang out in the emptiness of the hallways as the group of Padawans carefully made their way through the Orbital Station. Light footsteps and careful treading kept them from being noticed. A few of the soldiers glanced their way, but Lira managed to placate them with a happy smile and a wave, they shot odd looks, but then walked on, not considering that the group of young Padawans may be up to something sinister.

They were Jedi after all, and to be respected.

The Hangar door opened as Lira keyed in the command code, inside was a single Transport Shuttle, old and decrepit, but still functioning. Lira jumped inside, moving in front of the group of her fellow Students and rushing towards the ship.

She loved older ships. The technology that went into them was satisfyingly ancient, and taking apart such hulks always proved to be an interesting challenge. This one though wasn't meant to be taken apart, it was meant to ferry the group of Padawans to the surface of Korriban. Ever since the Jedi had taken over the planet it had been forbidden for anyone to step foot on its surface.

Among the padawans this had become a disturbing curiosity, and with a subtle nudge from Lira and one or two others of the older students, the group had decided they would take a little trip.

How dangerous could it be?

"May the Force be your Guide"
Tora couldn't believe she had been talked into this. As she snuck into the ship with the others she showed to be one of the more nervous bunch of the group, constantly looking around and asking one action was safe or another a good idea. This added with the fact she wore her hooded robe and kept it over her head half the time indicated how wrong she felt it was for all of them to be sneaking down to the Sith planet. The main reason she was coaxed into going was to try and befriend more padawans but also as a sense of wanting to learn more about the Sith through whatever ruins they would find down below. The Jedi records had their own information but it was nothing compared to an actual hands-on approach of finding old ruins to look at first-hand. This was also what some of the others used to keep her from turning back on the little escapade.

As she made it into the shuttle with the others, now safe and secure, she pulled her hood off and commented "Please tell me someone at least knows how to fly."

[member="Lira Dajenn"]

"I can fly," Tugoro would speak up, wearing his brown leather flight jacket instead of his Padawan tunic. The young teen would walk silently among the others, until [member="Tora Vell"] voiced her concerns. The boy could not help but stifle his laughter due to the Kel Dor, for she seemed rather nervous about something he did on a day to day basis. Sure, leaving the temple grounds as a Padawan was a major rule to break, but did Tugoro care? He had done it on many occasions, for many reasons, ones that included fighting Sith, to flying in space with Rogue Squadron. Not wanting his own personal ship to be confiscated when caught, the Jedi had left it on Ossus, in a hidden opening within the jungle. Surely, this old craft couldn't be too difficult to pilot?

Now, Tugoro's specialty was misadventures. The obstacles he had surmounted during his experiences were what made him who he was today. The mischievous, battle hardened youth that loved to break rules. Why had he never heard of this [member="Lira Dajenn"] person? Shrugging his shoulders at the thought, Tugoro would dismiss it, figuring that his fame would most likely prove to be superior. He was the leader of Wraith Squadron, after all. Then again, that title never really did help jog people's memory. Sighing loudly, the youth's neck would crane to the side as they arrived at the hangar, his strut coming to a halt as he turned into the large room. Through the hangar's shields, the young Padawan could see the red planet, along with feeling it's ominous presence. He did not like Korriban, for he had faced several Sith on it's surface in the past.

What was Darius being dragged into? A trip to Korriban? Stomach churning at the thought of ever stepping foot on a world that resonated with the dark side, were the others so foolish to even consider the idea that a trip would be the right thing? And as far as Darius knew, they were going without the supervision of a Jedi Knight, heck, even Eden would have a hard time convincing him to tag along on such an adventure. But of course, it was something far more than curiousity and interest of the red world that stirred him to come, it was the ever charming [member="Meeristali Peradun"] that spurred him to come along, of course, the felecat was a sight to be seen and he knew how close he was to Avalore, a part of Darius felt guilty for having considered the idea of turning it down, if anything were to happen to Stali, Avalore would most likely be displeased and well, there was this own personal urge to want to spend time with the Felecat.

While Darius was always one for foolish adventures, this one was perhaps, stretching it to far for his tastes, yes, the world was interesting but there were many factors involved about how this could all go incredibly wrong. While he was indeed nervous, he portrayed him as if he was made of durasteel, he was not smiling, he was simply there, tagging along at the behest of some handsome man that could turn into an oversized feline at times, which only caused his concern to grow and grow, what if the darkside jeopardized Stali, what if it brought out a creature that could not be tamed? Factors. Karking Factors.

Having remained silent up until they had entered the ship, he stood by the doorway leading into the cockpit, shaking his head as he listened to his fellow Padawans, especially [member="Lira Dajenn"]. This was the point that he decided to not remain silent. "There's no fun like going to the ancestral home of our sworn enemies, a place so riddled with the dark side that even the greatest of Jedi can perhaps fall prey to its lure after so long. And if you think it isn't Sith paying pilgramage to the planet, you've got to the worry about the thousands of dead Sith that have died here, lightsabers can put Sith down but not spirits, oh there's Tukata too, nothing like being mauled alive. Have I convinced you all that this is stupid? Or are we still going? I'd like to at least tell my Master I might be dead with-in the next twenty four hours or intend on becoming the next Dark Lord of the Sith" Raising his hands defensively as he pulled himself out from the tangent, he sat himself down into one of the seats, folding his arms and wrapping his robe around himself, he made sure that he had his lightsaber on himself, he was going to need it, everyone was going to need one. "If we wanted to go sight seeing, we could've gone to Nar Shaddaa, at least there we'd only have to worry about thugs.." Darius wasn't fearful of this adventure, fear on this world would no doubt destroy him, he was more cautious for the safety of his friends and fellow peers.

"Twilight is upon me,
and soon night must fall.
That is the way of things."
The slapping of boots on the metallic surface of the corridor stirred the sleep of Ekul Selah. A member of the Order for forty-five years, but for all his accumulated knowledge, he remained a padawan out of choice. He did not believe a Padawan could become a Knight in five years by a trial of courage, skill and all the rest that came with it in a package deal, nor a Knight a Master in ten. It was his belief that true enlightenment, wisdom and experience is what defined a Knight, and still, he thought himself not ready. He quietly rolled out of bed, and the station was eerily quiet as others slept. The footsteps that had woken him now long vanished. Whoever it was, they were treading quietly. He reached across his bed and placed his spectacles onto his nose, and rose. Dark robes slipped onto his shoulders, tattered and soiled from his time spent in the underworld of Coruscant. Seven long months of arduous running from the Sith. He moved towards the door, and relaxed his mind. He felt out in the force, a trickle of invisible water that spread out in a spherical radius from where he stood. He felt the presence of a gathering.

Ekul subtly gestured with his hand and the door unlocked, sliding aside. The troopers regarded him for a moment but kept on their patrol, they certainly were not the ones who awoke him. His ears had adjusted to their loud footsteps, but the light footsteps, not so much. A light sleeper Ekul had become, and one needed it to survive as a rat in the gutters. You never knew when a Sith patrol was around the corner. He was still recuperating, physically and mentally, from the experience. He followed the scent of their trail, out into a hanger he had yet not visited. He saw through an opened door a transport shuttle, where padawans were loading in. He had not been informed of any mission, least of all late as all others slept. He rose his nose, suspicious of this event. He saw a few troopers were walking towards the hanger to talk to the, but Ekul waved them down in reassurance he could talk to them. A padawan he may be, but forty-five years in the Order gave him an air of authority and respect.

He began to traverse the distance in the hanger, hands brushing against the master-crafted lightsaber hilt attached to his belt. He knew nothing could go wrong with simple talking, but ever since Coruscant he couldn't shake the feeling that he needed his own reassurance of safety. Call it post-traumatic stress disorder, call it paranoia, but it consoled him and comforted him when the night was darkest. He began to near the ramp, his footsteps light and gentle as he walked on the tip of his toes, habit he had gained on the run. Old habits die hard. He rasped his knuckles against the hull of the vessel before bowing into the belly of the beast, noting the padawans that stood around. Ekul spoke in a gravely tone, "May I inquire of you all, what you're doing, late is the hour of night."

Lira realized that the main parts of Korriban were very dangerous and very deadly. The Valley of the Dark Lords was massively evil and a huge no zone for any Jedi Apprentices. Hence why they would be going to the opposite side of the planet. It wasn't really that much better, but at least they would see other parts of the planet. She had read in the archives that there had once been a city in the Southern hemisphere, and thats where she intended to lead this merry band.

“Great. We have a pilot, an engineer, a pessimist, a nay sayer, now all we need is an old sage to guide us.” Just as she finished speaking she heard a voice that made her skin crawl. Not because its sound alone, but mostly because she hadn't expected anyone she couldn't see to start talking right after she finished.

She turned around, facing the man that had spoken.

Lira was surprised to find a venerable man standing there, his eyes containing the light of wisdom and his face taking on a more...stern approach that she would expect to see from most masters. Her eyes narrowed as her rudimentary skills in the force caught a whiff of his presence, she frowned slightly, realizing that he was not a Master. Her eyes lit up slightly, the hint of excitement returning.
“Were going on an adventure.” The naïve little college girl surfaced again. “Would you like to come along?”

"May the Force be your Guide"
Being called the pessimist of the group gave Tora a furrowed look. She didn't wan to seem the stick in the mud but at the same time she knew how much trouble they would all be in for having gone behind Jedi's backs in search of whatever it was awaiting them on the planet. But, at the very least, Tora didn't want to turn her back this far. She did, however, jump when the old man from the shadows spoke to them. She clung to the nearest person, which was [member="Darius Olar"] before seeing the man himself and hearing [member="Lira Dajenn"] ask if he wished to join them. Upon calming she realized she was still holding the padawn boy before letting go and stepping back.

"Sorry...." she said, hiding her blush.

"And they say I'm the one with my head in the clouds..."

Johnny showed up, late to the party as always. He was twirling his lightsaber hilt in his hand much like a drummer did his sticks. He was garbed in his usual odd assortment of mismatched clothing; Baggy black nylon cargo pants, yellow tennis sneakers with red stripes and laces, a brown padawan's robe that hung loose and open over a white dress-shirt that was layered over a blindingly bright red t-shirt. On the t-shirt? A picture of famed legend Mace Windu, scowling with his lightsaber ignited. The text under it read 'Go ahead, say what again!'. The blonde haired boy simply ceased seeking approval as of late. He just simply stopped caring about it. Maybe that was a good thing, as the previously shy as sin padawan seemed to have much more confidence about him as of late. He was still dealing with a fair few things knocking around in that odd-wired brain of his, but he'd been getting better about it all. Slowly, perhaps, but making progress. His friend [member="Jaryn Rhane"] and his master, [member="Kiskla Grayson"], had seen to that. Sometimes tough love was the best kind. For now, he slung his messenger's bag back over his head, and popped one of his trademark earbuds out so he didn't need to waste time lip reading to figure out what was being said.

"Old sage to guide you lot? Now that's funny to me. Couldn't begin to tell you why." he said, tipping a hat that wasn't even there to the group. "Name's Johnny Diamonds. Perpetual padawan, slicer dicer, tech-savant and all around wise-arse, at your service." He said, winking toward [member="Darius Olar"], before standing next to [member="Tugoro Taidarious"]. "Heya dude. Glad to see a friendly face. Figure i'f I'm gonna go on some sort of insane suicide dive into Downtown Darkside, it'll be good to have a friend with me."

"At the edge of the singularity,
light freezes,
unable to face the mystery.
But you must go on."

A mist of vapourous tendrils reached out and subconsciously caressed his mind. He felt a desire to expel the intrusion with a splash of energy, but he knew this was how the Force worked. It penetrated, permeated and secreted in and out of all living creatures. It studied them for knowledge, and those sensitive to this cosmic energy oft found themselves suddenly and inexplicably aware of this information. The browned hidden gaze of Jedi Selah fell upon who he knew to be the leader of this band of rogues. How he knew this? it could not be properly explained. A sense. An understanding. The Force. He studied her features momentarily, and knew she was not a baseline human. Her high cheekbones and her pale blonde hair closely resembled those of the Echani. The elderly yet still quite robust Jedi listened carefully to her words, ears perked, but he moved forward, and past her. There seemed to be some excitement in her tone as he clutched out for a lever in the cockpit, ready to halt this escapade.

"Hrmph," he grumbled through gritted teeth and thick, pursed lips. His hands remained clenched around the lever, but he halted. He remembered a time, nigh forty-five years ago now, when he had been young and reckless. It was a way of growing, he supposed. One did not grow wise by only succeeding, there was no such thing. One grew wise and successful from a thousand failures, and a thousand more. Though this would be going directly against the Orders wishes, a shuttle packed full of padawans, but if a veteran of the Order came along, may haps they would be more forgiving when they return. He relinquished his hold. "Very well," he announced, drifting back into the main hold, shrouded in the darkness of his robes. His eyes moved to Diamond, 'perpetual padawan,' he almost chuckled. Ekul Selah, the current and only padawan to remain at such a rank for forty-five years. Though that was only a matter of personal choice. He did not yet believe he was spiritually ready. He felt few of the Knights and Masters of the Order were, but those opinions he kept to himself.

Great! At least everyone was on the same page now.

Kind of.

Sort of.

Not really.

She shrugged as the old man walked into the back of the Cargo bay. She followed him, sticking her head out of the ramp and looking for anyone else that was coming along. When she saw that the Hangar bay was empty she gave a satisfied nod. Looks like they had gathered their fellowship and were moving on now. With a wide grin she turned around, smacking the button that raised the ships ramp.

“Welcome aboard Johnny.” Lira said as he walked passed the young man and slapped him on the back before quickly making her way into the cockpit.

She sat herself down in the co-pilots chair and began to fiddle with some of the control, then looked to the man who had volunteered to be their pilot. “Here's the coordinates, it lays opposite the Valley of the Dark Lords.” Everyone in the ship knew where that was, why it was a bad idea to go there, and that avoiding it was a good idea. “We'll find a city there, a ruin unearthed by a recent sandstorm.”

It made sense really. Korriban had once been a massive sprawling empire world. There was more than just the Valley of the Dark Lords.

(I'm making this up on the fly. Also if you haven't joined us by now but still wanna hop in, just say you're in the cargo hold with some of the others!)

"May the Force be your Guide"
Piling in with the others Tora kept looking back to [member="Ekul Selah"] and how he seemed to stick out among the bunch. He was so much older than the rest, and so much more mysterious. A part of her didn't like him but another knew he wasn't any sort of traitor or the like, at least not to the Jedi. Though she did have a funny feeling if they were caught he would be one of the first to be blamed. In any case she walked into the shuttle and took her seat with the others. As she strapped in she sighed, realizing she was starting to miss her droid Maro but knew he would be one to rat them out to the knights and master on the ground that he would think it would hinder Tora's safety.

With another small sigh she said a loud "I really hope we find something of worth down there."

[member="Lira Dajenn"] [member="Avano Reed"] [member="Johnny Diamonds"] [member="Darius Olar"] [member="Tugoro Taidarious"]

As soon as Tugoro spotted [member="Ekul Selah"], he had turned and walked away from the group, further into the ship. There was no way his face could be seen if everyone was to get in trouble. Even so, a sigh of relief would wash over him, as he realized that the old timer was going to join their party. Coming to a sudden halt, Tugoro would begin to grin as he sensed [member="Johnny Diamonds"], turning to face the Padawan before continuing to walk backwards towards the cockpit. The brown haired lad would shake his head slowly from side to side, figuring that Johnny's remark was probably a reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi. "We'll be fine," Tugoro would call out to the group, hoping to put those that were nervous at ease. He didn't think it was a suicide mission, though he understood how others might feel. Then again, the boy was nervous in his own right, having never flown an old decrepit craft. To top it off, it was a transport shuttle, which was probably far different than a star fighter.

Shrugging off the stress, the boy would quickly slip into his seat, turning to look at [member="Lira Dajenn"]. He wondered what she was doing. Thinking back to the mission he had done with the Rebellion, Tugoro remembered the multiple seats that had been within the cockpit, perhaps she was going to help him fly? That would be good. Turning his head calmly to gaze out the viewport, the boy would suppress his anxiety, before looking over the consoles, switches, levers, and buttons around him. After a moment, Tugoro would begin to reach forward, powering the engines up slowly before flicking a few switches up. Looking down at one of the screens, the youth would examine the coordinates, recalling the ones he had used long ago to travel to the Valley. She was right, this location was far away. That was good, hopefully the others would be put at ease. The Transport Shuttle would begin to hover into the air, gliding forward slowly to exit the hangar safely. It's large, bulky metallic frame would shoot through the dark vacuum of space, heading directly for the red planet. Entering on a specific angle, the craft would breach the atmosphere, flying down towards the barren sands that lay below. Tugging on the flight controls, Tugoro would pull the craft up, allowing it to soar across the air and head towards their destination. The boy's breathing had become erratic, for he was on edge himself.

"Nothing to it," he would mutter, still looking out the viewport.

Somewhere in the time between the Morellian/Human hybrid taking a seat and talking, the Felacatian had taken up the seat right next to [member="Darius Olar"]. His thinking since the younger man had decided to come along produced somewhat similar thoughts to the ones that the dark-haired half-Morellian padawan had been mulling over some minutes prior - he couldn't let anything happen to her student if it could be helped, but at the same time he would encourage Darius to act if needed.

After a few minutes of quelling the nearly severe amusement he felt bubble up within him at Olar's concerns, Peradun leaned in towards his relatively recent friend, turning his head so as to keep whatever he might say between them, and away from others. Sure, he could have used telepathy, but there was nothing wrong with a little old-fashioned whispering. Besides, how could he be certain that Darius was even capable of receiving telepathic speech, or whether he was comfortable with it at all, for that matter. Simply put, he didn't know the younger man all that well, yet.

But he was keen to. Any associate of Avalore's... was better to befriend than not. He whispered, low, soft, deep, right in Darius' ear.

"Darius... if it's any consolation, I only came in the event anyone might need saving from their own... mental lapses."

Yes... well, he could have said 'stupidity'.

"Unfortunately, there would have been no preventing this..."

He slipped a hand over Darius' shoulder, giving it a light pat.

"...so relax, or you'll miss something."

“Yes. Yes it is.” Lira called back from the co-pilots chair after adjusting some of the thrust the engines were putting out. “And I’ll tell you why.”

She turned the chair around and sat up straighter, keeping on eye on the viewport to ensure that their surprisingly gifted pilot kept the ship on the correct course. They wouldn't want to end up in the Valley of the Dark Lords after all. “Learning is all about imitative, and thats what were doing. Were taking the initiative to learn about a world that none of us really know anything about. I mean, obviously we know Korriban is evil, we know it was the home of the Sith, and we know that to them its like...Tython to us. Why not find out more about it?”

Besides the obvious danger of course.

Thena gain that was somewhat mitigated by the fact that they had more than ten or so odd padawans. True, they weren't trained soldiers or warriors, but all of them had some training in weapons and the force, and if they encountered anything dangerous they would more than likely be able to handle it.

Or so Lira thought.

As she slowly turned back around and looked out the viewport she saw their destination. A massive sprawling ruin of a city, huge obelisks and massive structures sticking out of deep sand dunes, carved stone and statues of massive Sith hung about everywhere, preserved by the ancient sands and held in place in time by the pressure of thousands of tons of tiny rocks.

Lira gapes.

So it had begun, the ship was moving but Darius couldn't help but laugh out loud at Lira and well, all of them. So optimistic, they thought that Tython and Korriban had anything to do together, the light side didn't corrupt, a Sith could sit in a nexus filled with the pulsing energies of the light and not even feel tempted to do an action that would benefit someone other than themselves. Shaking his head, he simply grunted and grunted again as the Kel Dor girl attached herself to him, his brow raised for a singular moment as he considered her and the prospect of pushing her off him, he wasn't too happy but then again, he decided to be here, like everyone else, he wasn't forced yet, he found it dutiful to at least see to the safety of his Padawans, even the Padawan that did seem a bit too old for Darius' liking.

"Learning is initiative, we can take the initiative to learn about Korriban from the Archives on Ossus - Which mind you, holds the greatest collection of knowledge and information since the dawning of the Jedi Order but nevermind, let's get fondled by dark spirits and battle the temptation of the darkside." Rolling his eyes, he felt the breath of Peradun on his ears, traveling down his neck, it made him shudder for a brief moment, before looking back to to him, his brow had risen and his lips contorted in consideration, truly, he didn't like being whispered to, it caused an odd sensation in his ears that made him want to run around and rub at his ears, but since it had come from the husky voice of Peradun, he decided to let it slip for now. .

"Trust me.. The Kel Dor girl is going to have a break down. Lira and her curiousty will end up drawing the attention of a dark spirit, that will seek to take her as it's own.. I don't think we need to worry about people acting on stupidity, because they're already being stupid." Snorting aloud, whispering in return, as the other tried to tell him that this could have been prevented, that if he didn't relax, he'd miss something, he sort of wished he said no now, the fact that Eden didn't know he was here, at least, from him telling her so, unsettled him but he felt all the much better that at least one of her 'friends' was well, right next to him. Grinning at the touch on his shoulder, he rolled them and leaned back. "I suppose if we die today, I'm in good
company."

"May the Force be your Guide"
Tora was quiet the whole time during the flight down. She wanted to say something now and then but her nature had gotten the better of her. She wasn't used to be with so many people in one place, especially those around her age. She managed to speak before but it was more out of concern and fear. Now it was awkward for her. She never had friends like this and didn't know what to talk about. Sure she could talk about the temple they were on their way to but she wondered if they even cared about it or if half of them were just in it for the adventure. She truly felt like an outsider among all of these padawans, even more so since she appeared to be the only alien among the bunch. It was even worse since they were all boys, another creature themselves that she never had the courage to really talk to. If she could blush her whole face would be pink by now. The slight comfort was knowing she was with [member="Lira Dajenn"], but even she was a little hard for the Kel Dor to relate to.

Johnny actually let out a hardy laugh at Darius as he finished speaking. "Oh dude, you are more right than you know. This has disaster written across it in giant purple neon letters, flashing in the dead of night. And here we all are, moths to that very light. Not a single one of us has any common karking sense. Cause no matter how you spell it out, we all came, sat down, and let this shuttle haul our collective butts to Darkside Central." Johnny just could not help but laughing at all this. To that effect, he pulled out a Valerian Root cigarette, and lit that sucker up faster than anyone could tell him not to. If he was gonna end up getting flayed by a Force Ghost, he wasn't doing it sober, that was karkin' sure. The young, blonde haired Jedi just leaned back in his seat, and took a long toke of the smoke, closing his eyes before offering it to Darius.

"It'll take the edge off, man. Believe you me. Hell, you and Stali there might do well with some of this, cause it seems like we are about to get handed a giant poodoo sandwich, and each one of us is gonna have to take a big ol' bite of it."

Johnny opened his eyes, exhaling the viridian colored smoke, coughing just a bit. "Remember; Poodoo Sandwich, Tastes Great."
