Private Welcome To The Jedi

"So.. She's probably going to be pretty scared. Very scared, actually. She was picked up after the end of the war and.. Well. You'll see." Kahlil stepped through the halls of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, hands clasped behind his back, calm smile on his face. It'd taken some.. Finagling, but getting Katherine Holt Katherine Holt to the Temple had become something of a priority after he learned her origin. And the conditions she was stuck in aboard that vessel. A prisoner, despite being a victim herself. He let out a sigh before glancing to the two with him.

"I plan on having Katherine being one of my Padawans. So, get along, if you can."

He gave them a smile before reaching up to the door, and knocked. It was her room, after all.

Kahlil kept his prelude vague, cautious even. A detail which had Capris slanting one eyebrow ever so slightly up.

So this new blood was fresh off the war machine? Damn. No wonder she was scared. The tail-end of the Maw's dying breath was not the place to be. Batorine had already more than effectively taught her that lesson.

"Don't know what you're worried about. I get along with everyone."

The fattest of all lies, but the small sarcastic grin it was paired with made it clear she very well knew the irony. In all likelihood she'd approached this like she did most things. Heavy on the skepticism. Slow to warm.

But hey, it'd be a lie to say she wasn't at the very least curious.

"Oh, so she knows how to joke now?" Rhemti poked at both Capris's words as well as her side with one finger, grinning from head-tendril to head-tendril. "I know why you're worried Boss, but I think it's misplaced if it's about the three of us getting along." That goofy grin relaxed, growing reassuring as he allowed himself to be serious for a moment.

"We'll behave and keep it calm as she settles in. Squids honor." Rhemti bowed his head as the promise left his lips, gently elbowing Capris as he glanced her way, making sure they were both in agreement, even if he did so with a slight smirk.

Katherine was overwhelmed.

It was an understatement to say the least, and not just because of the events that had led up to today. She had come from a simple rural town, one that was now nothing more than rubble and ash. But Kat still had the memories, and they were a stark contrast to the planet-spanning cityscape that was Coruscant.

So many towering buildings, masses of people crowding the streets, vehicles zipping around high above. It was all overwhelming, and it came to no surprise that that young woman stuck to Kahlil’s side throughout the journey. She tried to not acknowledge the looks and whispers, people staring at the stranger with the large bloodstained-looking wings.

But they lingered like whispers in the back of her mind.

She had been brought to Coruscant to be under the care of the New Jedi Order. Kat wasn’t completely sure why, but she assumed it was the only real way she was allowed off that ship. Kahlil was the only one she trusted, and even then she had her doubts. But the Jedi Master had managed to convince her enough to open up, leading the young woman to practically be glued to his side.

Which in hindsight, made Kat feel incredibly embarrassed. She had acted like a scared child, not wanting to leave the safety of her guardian.

In the end though, she had been provided a room and assured that she’d be safe being alone. No one beside Kahlil and those that needed to know, knew she was there. Kahlil had departed, letting her know he’d be returning with a couple others he’d like to introduce.

So when Kat finally heard the knock, the nervousness immediately settled into the pit of her stomach. But she still stood up from her bed and slowly walked over to the door. Kat made sure the wings were folded in as much as possible. But it was still impossible to completely hide them.

With one last deep breath, Katherine pushed the button and the door slid open.

Hello Mister Kahl-” She stopped herself mid sentence as she looked at the two that were flanking the Jedi Master. Kat’s posture tensed, only to sink away a little from the sheer puzzlement looking at Rhemti.

You…have tentacles for hair?

"It's.. Not as simple as her settling in. As I said, you'll see what I mean soon." And hopefully, they would be friends. He felt weird asking them to try anyway, but perhaps there was room for them to make good friends. Show Kat that she was truly welcome here as a Jedi. Just as Kahlil himself had been welcomed. Ish. He never had friends, just Veiere being willing to help him. Friends would be good for her.

Kahlil blinked slowly once the door opened though, glancing towards Rhemti for a moment. Then back to Kat. He did his best to keep the calm expression he always had, but there was the hint of laughter in his eyes.

"This is Rhemti. And that is Capris. They are my other two Padawans."

"And you have hair for tentacles." Rhemti quipped back playfully, a warm goofball grin on his face. He leaned forward, bowing deep at the waist in greeting with a large downward sweep of one arm; all in the hopes his silliness might make her more at ease, if not at least crack a smile. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, dear miss. Rhemti Tottridiam; at your service." He stood straight once more, keeping a relaxed stance all the while.

"Welcome to Coruscant."

Returning Rhemti's elbow prod with one of her own, her revenge was cut short as the door flung open to reveal Kat and her backdrop of wings.

"Holy shi-"

Capris blanked. Big time. One forced cough interrupting what could've been a disastrous first impression.

"-feathers. Holy feathers."

Right. That was a lot better. Social intelligence for the win.

"Heh." Slowly straightening, the kid decided to forgo Rhemti's level of chivalry, instead opting for a small head tilt of acknowledgement. "Yeah- uh I'm Capris. You probably already pieced that one together."

She just continued to look at Rhemti with a bemused expression, something she already felt would be a recurring theme when the Nautolan was involved. Kat’s head tilted slightly as she tested the Padawan’s name on her lips. His first name came to her easily, but it was apparent she was failing to pronounce his surname.

Mention of her wings had Katherine’s gaze snap towards Capris. She attempted to fold her wings in closer, but it was practically impossible with their size. Hell, one of the wings alone looked like it could be bigger than Kat.

Albeit, it didn’t help that she was currently looking particularly thin and malnourished.

N-nice to meet you both,” she said with a hesitant smile on her face. “So you’re Mister Kahlil’s Padawans, l-like…me?” Kat turned to look at the Jedi Master, uncertainty clear in her expression.

She remembered him first mentioning the term back on the ship, part of a deal to ensure her freedom, or something like that. Katherine wasn’t all with it back then, so only parts of the conversation remained in her memories. But Kahlil had mentioned it a few more times on the way to Coruscant.

It just all still felt…wrong. She didn’t understand why he was so willing to help her, a complete stranger.
