Denon
Seven Corners, Baker's Row
Night Time

Your new beginning begins at the intersection of seven corners

Cryptic words ran in the back of Twitch's head as her footsteps echoed emptily against the cathedrals of concrete, durasteel and greed that was Denon. Tired eyes hung low as a skinny hand ran up to adjust the collar of her black turtleneck. Her stomach rumbling for umpteenth time that night as idle smells hung in the air like unfulfilled promises. There were things that the runaway's mind wanted to think about, but now her body was dictating what to focus on and that was something to calm her stomach. To think this was the first time in years she was this desperate for a simple bite to eat. She never understood the phrase "freedom ain't free", but here, alone by herself in this city an interpretation on it was being forged.

Food was both everywhere and nowhere, as neon signs goaded and hypnotized the eyes with colorful images of food that could never fulfill the expectations the signs set up. It was just there, sitting begging to be touched yet there was always a catch or in this case a paywall. The entire world it seemed could be yours if you were willing to foot the bill. Twitch's brain noting each small reminder of what she couldn't have because her pockets were empty. Money was the language to speak here not power, and if you had nothing to spend then you were stuck a wandering vagrant like her. To think how things were so different...

better this then being a pawn Twitch tried to convince herself thinking again on that cryptic phrase. She assumed that the seven corners was literally referring to this place yet to find her chance to begin anew was fleeting at best. It was just more days of aimless wandering with no lighthouse to guide her. Twitch's thoughts were however quickly halted when her eyes gazed upon a vending machine. Her pace quickened as a new burst of energy filled her body. Walking over to the machine the buzzing of old fluorescent lighting hit her ears as she stared down the dimly lit window at tonight's menu.

Eye catching labels were all jockeying around for attention in Twitch's headspace. Eyes drifting up and down each isle and row. Most of it was junk food that once would have been unthinkable to put in her mouth but now were the most appealing thing in the universe. A decision was made in her mind as her head quickly petered to and fro to check her surroundings waiting for the moment where no one could possibly be paying attention. The moment came and a bare hand would make contact with the machine. Twitch would close her eyes concentrating intently as the whirring mechanics of the machine's simple inner workings came to life in her head like a living blueprint. Electrical diagrams and currents moving in real time in her head as she examined for just the right signal to tell the machine.

A few moments later the machine came to life as a motor whirred away and a chocolate nougat bar was deposited to her. Hands clawing and snatching the small bar like it was pure gold. A soft smile trying to emerge from Twitch's lips before realizing that she was now the happiest she ever was in days because she now had a candy bar. A sigh came out of her as she now found an overwhelming desire to just sulk out of this overly bright neon and into somewhere darker. Seeing a back alley that looked perfect for such an occasion. Diving into it with a brisk pace Twitch would quickly find a nice dumpster by a wall to sit next to. Taking her place, back against the wall she would tear the candy's wrapper apart and begin to shove the bar into her mouth, a desire to devour as quickly as possible over savoring any taste. Though even in this manic feast it still proved to be utterly delicious even if that satisfaction was tinged with melancholy.

With the candy bar finished she just stopped and rested as her stomach begin to make work of digesting this sudden influx of calories. Her eyes rested as she tried to just think of something... anything to distract herself with. She found herself grabbing her shoulders and pulling her feet as close to herself as she could muster just trying to feel any kind of worth or security that could bring. Heavy eyes now shutting wanting to just exit the world of now and enter the dreamscape. Time began to slip away as the world faded to black...

Then something slammed against the dumpster right above her. Her body jerked awake and eyes snapped open, she was only asleep for a moment but that was all that was needed for someone to approach her. A hearty laugh exploded next to her as she saw a man in a simple tank top and jeans stand over her. Twitch would snap up and walk away as fast as possible but the man put a hand in front of her.

"Now, now hold up, not every day I come across a pretty little thing just lying around by some dumpster. Stay a while." To accentuate his point, he would reach down behind his back and pull out a vibroknife. A simple press and the distinct sound of the blade humming to life would fill the air between Twitch and her dubious intruder. "I got ways of being quite persuasive." He finished as he waved the blade up closer to her neck.

Twitch found her back straightening and her eyes now narrowing on his face. A single thought speaking in her head.

I can't believe this is actually fething happening to me

Tess was sitting on a rooftop, her feet dangling over the side while her mask laid in her lap. She stared off into the distance for several moments before picking up her mask. Her golden eyes studied it for several moments as she quietly mulled over her situation. She had made a friend or two and she knew she was close to being fully accepted into the gang. She knew this wasn't a good idea, she knew it could be dangerous and even ruin her life. But she didn't regret it for even a moment. She needed this. She needed to unwind, get away from it all and simply disappear. She chuckled softly to herself and ran a hand through her magenta dyed hair. The whole 'Nar Shaddaa crook looking for a new break' thing was growing on her. She was liking this new look more and more...plus messing around with luminescent spray paint was really therapeutic.

Her moment to herself was interrupted when she spotted a girl drifting through the streets. She didn't think anything of her until she approached the vending machine and...didn't pay at all. She blinked in surprise as the woman scrammed to snatch the candy bar and rush off to a nearby alley. With nothing better to do, Tess slipped her mask on again. The holographic jaws started up and curled into a small smile as Tess stood up and wandered over to the alley.

From the rooftop she watched the girl. She looked broken, utterly defeated and, quite frankly, pathetic. Tess was about to drop down the rooftop but halted when someone else entered the alley. A frown formed on her brow and her lips curled in annoyance at the man. She sighed and drew her pistol, launching her ascension cable at the opposite wall and dropping down quietly. Her illuminated form stood at the entrance of the alley with one hand on her hip and the other clutching her pistol. "Hey nerf herder, I'd suggest you let her go and scram off home." she ordered him, her sights aimed perfectly at his head.

Her golden eyes watched him carefully. Any sudden movements from him and he was done. Though this girl was looking very calm...she was either ready to die or she was more than she appeared to be. "Sweetie, why don't you step away from him. Wouldn't wanna have you in the crossfire." she said with a smile as she glared at the man.

What twitch was feeling about the whole ordeal wouldn't exactly be best described as calm but rather indifference. In a different land she would have flaunted her privilege and chided the guy, but here in Denon she could only feel even more helpless at the striping of such things. Now she was at the bottom, a mere rat, and this cat thought he sensed prey. Truth be told Twitch though didn't fear for her life when threatened by the man. When you survived a day where it literally rained star destroyer a knife was well, a knife. Still maybe upon later reflection she could note how literally weeks ago this would have been unthinkable. But that would be a matter of future hindsight. The mind of now was focused on the blade close to her throat.

Eyes scanned the man in front of her as a blank expression rested on her face. Trying to think of the best way to bail as she did her best to not ponder what this man wanted to do with her. Their was a small glow to his pupils and he flashed a sickening smile that gave way to disgusting teeth that could be seen even in the relative darkness. Twitch's eyes however picked up the bright neon figure making her way to the alley. It was almost impossible to miss even if she was only within one degree of your field of vision thankfully the thug was having a bit tunnel vision as he focused too much on devouring his prey.

That's when the blaster came out, barrel aimed ready to remove another life from existence thankfully it was directed to her would be assailant. The man would turn his head over to the neon woman before looking back at Twitch. "Always somebody trying to kill my fun" He would whisper to himself before backing away a few steps from Twitch.

"Alright no need to shoot anybody today." He said with a raised voice as he slowly lifted his arms high in the air. The vibroblade in his hand flicked off and he gave a small wink to Twitch which only caused her to brace her body that tad bit more muscles wanting to spring into action and bolt but only to be locked away by an intuition that told her she wasn't safe yet. Her eyes made note of another pathway that intersected in the back-alley that she could make a run for. Trash cans, waist high walls, fire escapes and a litany of potential obstacles or routes opening up to her mind.

She took a few steps forward to clear her way around the Dumpster when the thug began to turn towards Tess. "Now if you excuse me, miss brighter-than-a-zeltron-from-lum-rouge I'll be gone like a flash." As he said Tess might be able to notice the odd opening in the palm of the hand that carried the knife. As he finished a loud whistling noise would explode from the hand along with a bright blinding light that would turn the night to day. Quickly thereafter the knife was thrown straight at Tess with immense speed, strength and precision that was inhuman.

Twitch meanwhile had began to bolt the second his back was turned to her as she darted from the alley, a ringing noise now as all she could hear from the world as her breath quickened and she tried to make her escape. Soon the serenity of the alley was rendered into chaos as she threw down trash cans and boxes in an effort to cover her path and slow down anyone that went after, even as the world felt it had turned upside down in her head. That didn't matter now though as quick flick to look behind her revealed the thug before was now bolting towards her, a distinctive orange glow to his eyes that illuminated like Leds and a faint whisping of energy behind him that covered his back almost like a shield of some sorts.

The chase was now afoot.

The man turned to face her while the girl seemed ready to bolt. She would worry about her in a bit. Her first priority was the thug trying his luck. Her golden eyes narrowed as he spoke, every part of her telling her to be on guard. She expected him to do something more...conventional. What she didn't expect was for him to have his hand open up and blind her. She recoiled as her eyesight was karked over, ducking to the side behind the dumpster. In her rush she felt a sharp pain along the side of her arm as she collapsed against the wall.

Her ocular implants filtered out the blinding light in a few seconds while her hearing implants cleared the tinnitus in her ears, allowing her to register what hit her. She sighed as she glanced at the cut along her shoulder, annoyance now brewing more and more. The commotion further away caught her attention, though. With a deep breath she hopped back onto her feet and pursued the two street rats. She leapt over obstacles and sprinted as fast as she could go as she tried to catch up to them. After a few moments she caught up with them. She fired two shots at the man's back, but the distortion coming off him gave her the idea that a blaster wouldn't be doing much to hinder him.

She decided to switch it up a little. With a steady pace she kept up with the two of them, her breathing stable and solid as she ran like a machine after them. When a clear shot opened up for her, she primed her ascension cable and aimed past both the thug and the woman. She fired the cable into another dumpster far past the both of them and dropped her gun behind an air conditioning unit to keep the tension. The cable tightened as the pulley system tensioned it, creating a tripwire to hinder both of them rather abruptly as she tried to catch up. If it worked she would be able to catch up...and karking hell, she needed to work on her cardio. If there was one reason to kick both their asses, it was to punish them for telling her that her cardio was in pitiful state.

One foot in front of the other that was all that mannered now. The pitter-patter of footsteps along with heavy breathing as she hoped she could escape and perhaps live another day. The world still rang as her unprotected ears took the full brunt of the flash charge and her eyes weren't doing that good either. Flashes of color floating and fading from her vision along the world turning pitch black in most places thanks to her now destroyed nightvision. Granted those details barely registered in the deserter as she desperately tried to find somewhere to dive into.

The movement of the projectile as it begin to turn into a trip wire was impossible for Twitch to see or hear and soon the galloping runner would trip and find out what it was like for her face to meet concrete and then tumble incoherently for a few seconds, the pain that was soon about to erupt was halted by adrenaline for now as her eyes scanned the ground to get her bearings, before noticing a sharp piece of glass, seeing the weapon she crawled towards it and as her hands wrapped around it she would feel herself get kicked in the side flipping her onto her back and then grabbed by the neck. The piece of glass would and her hand would slip into her sleeve concealing it for now. The man as it turned out had managed to see Twitch fall and was able to avoid falling himself.

The heavy rising and falling of her chest was now broken as air refused to be sucked in. The other hand grasping around the man's hand, as she felt herself get yanked and pulled around so she was dangling in the air and put between him and Tess, with Twitch acting as a human shield. Along with wavy energy that projected around his free arm. As Twitch tried to fight his grab she would feel her vision haze as it's iron grip remained resolute. Suddenly color faded and even the distinct features he had faded as everything turned into flashing show of impulses running around his body. Certain limbs like his arms and some areas around his chest a microcosm of activity as she saw strings of light swirl around at amazing speeds. leading from his arm all the way up to his brain, there was something similar in his eyes as well, and she could even saw a glow of a continuous flow of power that ran through his left arm providing power for some sort of shield generator. Yet as she felt her breath escape and her mind to start panicking she saw something to the side of his head. A little chip that kept getting sent pulses of power that flowed to his eyes.

"Oh boy you are making me work! and neon over there I suggest you stay back unless you like hearing her neck go snap. I might look like nothin' but underneath I got better bolt-ons that what's on your ch-" Twitch didn't allow him to finish as she swung out with her right arm sending the jagged spike of glass hurtling straight into the side of his head, with the stab Twitch would find herself falling to the ground as she quickly backpedaling away, dropping the piece of glass as blood came out of her palm and fingers.

The man meanwhile would grip frantically at his eyes to no avail as he flailed and shambled about. shouting "I can't see, Why can't I see!?" as he bumped into a railing. Leaving a nice opening for Tess to open up a can of whoop arse on the guy or whatever else she had in mind.

Her trick worked...but it also didn't. The girl went ploughing through the ground while her pursuer merely hopped over it. Tess drew her vibroblade but kept it hidden behind her arm as she jumped over the cable and caught up. The man had the girl in the air between them in a flash. She stood at the ready, her eyes scanning every angle and position as she looked for a way to take out the guy. Him holding up the girl was making it difficult.

A sigh escaped her as she listened to the man monologuing, her annoyance growing more and more as she regained her breath. Though she got her opening when a shard of glass was driven into the side of his head. It didn't seem to kill him but that was fine by her. She charged forward and slid along the ground, driving her foot into his knee to snap it in the opposite direction. In the same movement she kicked him over and got up over him. She flipped him onto his stomach and drove her blade into the back of his spine, paralyzing him completely. Still breathing heavily, she leaned in next to his ear. "You made me run, you karking nerf herder." she muttered coldly as she drove her blade into the back of his neck. With a twist she shredded the inside and pulled it back out. She watched him die slowly and painfully as she wiped her blade off on his clothes and sheathed it once more. "That's probably my sloppiest kill to date." she commented as she walked over to the girl.

"Hey. You okay? Nice shot with the glass." she spoke with a smile as she tried to help the girl to her feet. "Let me see that hand of yours." she continued, holding out a hand towards her. Her other hand was ready to knock her ass out if she tried to attack her. The last thing she needed now was to be blindsided and left for dead by the person she tried to help...

Twitch' Twitch'

Her hand burned and pulsed as pain seemed to ooze at the same tempo as the blood. A strong stinging sensation burning her fingers and any attempts to close or open her palm just intensified this pain. It was to put it mildly, a bit distracting to deal with, especially as the blood began to stain her only turtleneck. Still she had her skin relatively intact for the most part as she crawled away from the techno creep.

Cold eyes stared as she saw the collection of neon rainbow vomit kick and execute the man in an overly brutal manner, as the man began to slowly croak his last breaths the only thing still retaining any life was his various implants running off whatever amount of charge that was still residual in his system. There was something in the way she killed that man that clued that there was something... off about her. A hunch that folded in her and made her mind grasp at all the possibilities. This didn't look some normal criminal scum, now the way she execute every stabbed and kicked felt like it had more intent to them, the workings of a professional. It made her uneasy, a rolling doubt churning under her lungs as she saw this person now casually turn towards her.

The words were kind but served as even more of a juxtaposition with her actions and thoughts over who this person was kept coming and coming. There was one main fear riding over her though. Something that was always on the back of her mind whether passively or actively. It could be them. She was trying to escape that web of lies and fear, now though there was a chance it was hiding under the guise of a calm hand. Needless to say that just because the creep was dispatched it still didn't make her willing to relax and breath a little.

"Who... who are you? Words escaping coated in fear and passing anxiety over to the ears of the mystery woman, as Twitch remained reluctant to reach out for that potential hand that fed. Though that was thanks to a critical subconscious lesson Twitch learned from the Empire.

Never trust the hand that feeds.

Tess Tess

The girl was wound up tight. She understood it completely. So when the woman tensed up at her gesture, she took a step back and squatted down in front of her. "The name's Xan. Friendly neighbourhood ghost." she quipped gently, flashing her a smile. She made sure there was space between them, for the girl's sake and for her own safety. She was terrified, and people who were terrified tended to do stupid stuff.

She glanced at the dead scumbag behind them then back to the girl. "You can relax. I'm not here to hurt you, I'm simply helping out." she continued with a gentle tone. "You got a name, sweetie?" she asked her, moving just a little bit closer. Though this wasn't a good spot. They seemed alone now, but they were in an open alley. She was still getting used to this planet and every part of her was telling her to get out of the open. Looking back to the woman, Tess nodded to the alley's exit. "You're worse for wear, sweetheart. Let's get that hand looked at then get you something proper to eat. That candy bar isn't going to do anything for you. You look like you could do with some good food." she offered her, genuinely wanting to help her. Though at this point it was more a case of wanting to get the kark out of the area as well.

Alleys on this planet wasn't a place to hang around in...

The deserter stared into the eyes of Xan as she finally heard her name. A ghost? So someone that slinked and hid away. Twitch felt her back hit the concrete wall behind her. Her face felt like it was about to fall off. Her side was aching and her lungs felt like they were burning. A silent thought was playing in her head. So when she was asked to give a name it was becoming a necessity to try and work with this stranger.

Name? It's uh... Twitch. The name's twitch." She said using the fake name she had memorized. She wasn't sure if she could ever feel comfortable fully going back to her old name. It was something that the enterprising could trace back, find their back to her past and use it for whatever they wanted. Sith did that all the time and there was no reason to doubt it was any different here.

Though Xan would then go on to comment about her condition which only hammered the fact that she would likely not be able to run her way out of this one, likely just collapse on the ground at some point. Then she heard the magic words. Good food. Her stomach rumbled and her mind just stopped processing logic. It was now fixated on one thing. She found herself pushing her back against the wall in order to use her legs to stand up.

"Food would be nice." She found herself reduced to being a beggar and she hated every word she had to say as a result. Yet she couldn't deny that pride didn't mean anything to her right now.

Tess Tess

The girl finally introduced herself, earning a smirk from Tess. "Twitch, huh? Suits you rather nicely." she joked as she helped the girl to her feet. Unsurprisingly, Twitch agreed to a bite to eat. "Figured you could do with a proper meal. Come on. I know where we can eat like royalty for cheap-cheap." she quipped, leading the way out of the alley. "Though I think before we get to all that, we better get that hand of yours fixed up." she suggested.

Along the way to Baker's Row she managed to get a medpack from a pharmacy that looked more renowned for drug deals than actual medication. Regardless, she helped Twitch fix her hand up before buying both of them a proper cheese burger and chips. "Now I know what's going through your mind. Why am I helping you, why should you not try and drop me right now? Well let's say I'm in a weird spot in my life right now and I'm feeling like being nice today." she quipped out of nowhere as she worked through her chips while sitting on a bench. "Plus I'm part of a group that's always in need of new peeps with tricks like what you got." she offered, finishing off her last chip.

Turning slightly to look at her, she studied her for a second. "I saw you at that vending machine. You didn't have a tool in your hand and you didn't jimmy-jam any buttons. That is what I'd call karking useful on this planet." she continued before taking a few big bites from her burger. Luckily it wasn't small by any means, though she still doubted one would be enough for Twitch. "Don't go bolting on me yet. I'm simply asking where you learned that. I've spent time with space wizards on both sides and I've never seen anything as fancy as that. Where'd you learn it?" she asked her with a casual voice, focusing once more on her burger.

Despite seeming relaxed, Tess was ready to react. This girl was living up to her nickname. Usually she wasn't that bothered, but this girl could manipulate technology with the Force. Something that made the cybernetically enhanced assassin rather uncomfortable.
