Lyra ducked beneath the wall as the blast from the artillery hammered the building. She crouched, rifle resting against her arm, until the blast had settled. Her soldiers hurried around, setting up what additional cover that they could find. Comms techs were setting up their more powerful communicators and linking in with the rest of the battlenet. Heavy weapons were being set-up and marksmen were making their way into the upper levels.

The building was empty. They weren't sure what it had been, but it almost appeared to have been a library perhaps.

"Confirmed, Dusk One," Lyra responded through the comms. "Bring 'em back safely." She turned to one of her support officers. "Get zoning schematics for this area. Find out if there are other routes."

"Aye, captain!" The answer came back.

"Dusk One, finding other routes for you. Hopefully something underground. Broadcasting when we find them. May the Force be with you."

"No contact with Pathfinders!" The shout came through the air, cutting over the blaster fire that echoed around them. Dust and chips of duracrete bounced off the floor.

"Make contact then!" Lyra yelled, firing through a shattered window. "We can't stay here!"

Reaching the entrance to the tunnels under the Citadel had been the easy part, the tunnels themselves, and the labyrinth they formed, was far more challenging... and perfect for the end goal of this little farce.

"The cloning vats are going to be in the direct center of the maze down there," she explained. "And it really is a maze, and filled with traps designed to either kill you outright or force you to wander the maze. If I remember right, there is a secret to how the walls shift that can make a trip to the center of the maze quick, but I was never told what it was."

Which was the truth from a certain point of view. No one had told her what the key to the labyrinth under the Citadel was... she had read about it in her research for establishing this base in the first place. In the back of her mind, there was a silent nod to Eldaah that the time had come for her and Vyoro to play their parts and the cloning lab was the place.

"Here goes nothing," she said, reaching out with the Force to reveal the entrance to the tunnels that could lead their party down into them. "Mind your step."

The rush had proven successful and the Pathfinders pushed further into the city. The main highway was riddled with the corpses of Sithspawn, militia, and those unlucky Pathfinders who met their destiny at the end of a blaster. Cenn on the other hand was lucky, always had been. He rested, head tilted forward as his muscles ached and groaned, sapping the last of his energy. But the mandalorian had the will to ignore the notion to just slip into the gravel and rest.

Each second resting could mean another man dead, and they needed to make contact with Twilight Company as quickly as they could. As the battle came to a lull he listened in to the commlink channels, awaiting his orders to move once more. Their Commanding Officer was quick to gather the men, revealing a small holographic layout of the city and providing instruction. Such plans would fall to the wayside, Cenn noted, when the battle went underway. Before the short briefing had finished his regiment was already on the move.

They wasted no time in scouting buildings, relying on speed to provide them with safety. It wasn't long until the familiar blaring of blasters could be heard. They spotted the militia, riddling the building with charged bolts of energy, and quickly fell into cover. They had gone unnoticed, for the moment, and with a raised fist the commanding officer shouted his order.

The Pathfinders rose from their cover and began laying down fire, suppressing the militia while the more accurate attempted to pick off any they could. Cenn put as many bolts down the field as he could, advancing slowly with two others of his fire team in an attempt to cross the distance between the Pathfinders and Twilight Company. "Careful, careful! Keep firing," the mandalorian shouted, regretting the use of his smokers which were now in dire need.

Objective: The One Who Knocks

Imperial Citadel, Exterior

Wait, Varex reached his arm out, placing a hand on the chest of his fellow Inquisitor.

The Jedi Shadow stared at him momentarily as if he was the one had taken leave of his senses, until realization quickly dawned upon the others that the Vaemath Knight's hesitation was for pragmatism's sake. Each of them had witnessed the destructive Force blast launched from behind the 26th's lines, each had felt a surge of corruption emanating from one of their own. General [member="Aryn Teth"] had not been trained by the New Jedi Order, but this was the first evidence of deviancy that Varex was aware of.

He shared his brothers' horror, their instinct to detain the Jedi General for rendition, but everything had a proper time and place. Right now, while Knight Teth's aberrant behavior had dealt with the worst of their Sithspawn problem, the city square outside the Citadel's main gates was far from secure. GADF perimeter sentinels knew to expect them, still the Inquisitor and his team of Shadows managed to surprise them, advance warning of his approach the only thing preventing a friendly fire incident.

Still celebrating their temporary victory, the Jedi Knight pushed past jubilant faces of Alliance soldiers with narrowed eyes, only sparing Teth the briefest glance as he loped right past the unit's commanding officer.

The Grand Marshal and his team have breached the Citadel, Varex projected his thoughts to both the General and his Shadows, We must do what we can to keep the Enemy's attention. General, have your men place explosives at the base of these gates. We will work on weakening them from within.

Communing with his strike team, together they combined their mental power to begin rending thick plates of reinforced metal. Through brute force, even with the aid of targeted detonations, their chances of breaking through anytime soon were unlikely. But it was certainly bound to attract some major attention. Cries had already begun to echo from far off, faint but growing closer.

The next wave had come.

Stuck against the wall, Kyle Farnes looked to his comrades. He had a few guns up here and the vantage point was going to prove to be useful, as soon as they could secure it. A deep breath and he peeked out the window again. Right, soldiers moving, and the fire was dying down. They could get the jump on this a bit. “Besh Squadron has eyes on the enemy. Moving through the city.” He muttered as he moved his rifle. Getting the enemy in his sights, he nodded. And he was ready.

The squadmates were giving him cover and watching the entry way. What he was doing was waiting, letting some of the squad pass by, and… there he was.

The communications officer. Squeezing one, two, three, shots off took out the communications box and the man carrying it. He ducked behind the cover again as the Trando fired a few shots from his vantage point.

“Right, now…” Kyle muttered as he peaked out and squeezed more rounds into the group.

"We're taking hull damage! Menacers are all over us!"

"Fine, we can't take another volley. I'll shut off battle meditation"

Poodoo. Even though I knew that not all Menacers were within firing range of the Recluse, nearly every Menacer that was within range opened fire on it; the benefits to my crew lasted long enough to achieve what I want, she thought, while the Recluse was taking fire from the surviving Menacers that still somehow managed to survive the large amounts of turbolasers and sonic charges being fired at them. Definitely less Menacers to be had, but the flagship's hull was being eaten away by the acid. Which will cause them some headaches once they are returning to Hakassi for repairs. Some crewmembers were being vented away because of the holes in the hull the Menacers tore, which was a tragedy. She was a little disturbed by the crewmembers being vented away, but there definitely were much less of them than at the beginning. Maybe [member="Jyoti Nooran"] would be able to shoot down the remaining Menacers, which were headed right for that secondary force instead. But as more sonic charges were fired, more ammunition of all kinds, the Menacers were still holding fast, albeit at much-reduced strength. So, with support from other units, the battle was now finally coming to anything remotely resembling a close.

His aim was simple. Weak spots, be it open eyes or open mouths or exposed joints. As the pathway narrowed due to Trex's efforts, Maud tightened up his aim. Feeling the force flow them him in a far less aggressive manner than his compatriot, he focused on pushing his arrows through the perpendicular barrage of blaster fire. When the Ravager mounted the building above, he shifted his focus and fire. Nocking an arrow, he fired it just in time to derail one particular spike upwards and strike the Ravager directly in the mouth. It yawned with a groan before being tossed away by the other Jedi Knight.

Lifting his arrow hand to his left shoulder, he felt a gash across the top muscle where the derailed spike had opened the robe material and flesh. It was nothing vital, he thought, but it wept all the same. Lucky.

Shifting his aim back to the line, he moved to grab another arrow. Empty.

"I..." He paused as he wrapped the bow over his chest. Withdrawing the hatchet, he knelt down. "...need to get one of those sabers. But for now...I need to get some of my arrows back."

Charging forward with the expectation of cover from the Scarred, he came to a sliding stop as he delivered the final blow to a shot ravager. The hatchet nearly cleaved it's head free at the neck and pulling the arrow free, he stowed it in the quiver and forced that gap that Trex was looking for.

What few ravagers remained turned upwards and looked towards Maud. But he stood upon the upheaval of rubble and speeders, the sort of terrain that might make their scythe like appendages difficult to use. Collecting the force around him, he steadied himself for a mass extraction of his arrows from afar.

The time was now. They had to get moving. Coren stepped ahead of the Grand Marshall and called the Force to himself. He was trying to take the cues he had been given by the Force. He was here to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. And at times? That meant diving headlong into the conflict and taking the fight to the doorstep. The fact that the New Jedi Order allowed this, and encouraged action against the dark side, was even better. Igniting his orange blade, Coren stepped forward first, dropping into the mazes. He grinned as he stepped forward, waving his blade, and calling the Force to him.

He was working on reading the maze, and seeing what dark side traps he could find. For now, he was setting up a barrier to allow the rest to come in, unhinged. He was the vanguard of the light side, just as much as anyone was. He was ready and waiting. When he heard Omai Rhen drop down behind him, the pair continued on, with the group following behind. Coren would keep pushing forward, his lightsaber being the wall instead of the Force now, with the rest following.

“Taeli, take point. Get us to the Citadel.” Came the call from Omai, who nodded to the other Master.

Rash, Starchaser, too rash, she thought as the group of Jedi descended down into the maze. The maze was eerily silent, considering the number of Sithspawn they had to fight through. In the back of her mind, she felt a sense of preparedness. Good, they were in position. As Coren led the way, she probed out with the Force, deactivating certain traps. She didn't need poison darts or spikes or pitfalls to be triggered, nor did she want any others of the lethal traps to set off. No, the traps she wanted set off were just a bit further ahead.

The dark side clung to every surface, growing darker and malevolent the deeper into the maze they proceeded, Taeli offering directions that were accurate historically... as long as someone didn't set off the shifting walls.

"Wait!" she yelled, but it was too late. One of the Jedi in their group had stepped on a part of the floor. It was the trigger.

Immediately the walls started shifting, pushing and shoving at the Jedi, driving them apart. They were designed to put you in a different part of the maze than where you set it off, but they could also be controlled. For Grand Marshal Omai Rhen, his shift would be controlled, and whether he believed it to be the Force or something else, he would find himself at the underground cloning lab. Hundreds of cloning cylinders lined the wall, each growing a new Sithspawn to be unleashed within the next few hours at most. At the center of the room, a dark robed male stood, hood pulled over his head. An armored female figure stood near his shoulder, clearly the apprentice.

"Welcome, Omai Rhen," the male stated. "I am Lord Vyoro, master of this facility... and soon, your executioner."

A red blade would ignite from his hand, reflecting an aged human face and yellow eyes. The shadows around the chamber twisted as a spell of concealment was activated by the armored figure.

Starchaser was more often than not the one who jumped first and thought second. Probably why his family was living aboard a star destroyer and not on some planet. Maybe they should work on that. Didn’t the Mando clans do that? Claim dominion over a world… Could he even get enough Starchasers together to do that? Was it worth it? Didn’t matter here and now. What mattered was the fight. Reaching out with the Force, Coren was searching the dark side, it was so hard here. This whole world was… covered in it. Filled and demanding to be cleansed. Coren shook his head, his lightsaber casting the orange glow as he kept moving forward.

He and Omai both turned when Taeli called out to wait. The Force was called to the pair as they were not sure how to respond, letting the other Master take point, but ready to assist. That was when things started to move. Pushing against the walls, Coren was reaching to the Force, trying to slow anything around him. He didn’t want to reach out to the Aing-Tii teachings here, no, not a place this dark.

Nor was he thinking to.

No, he was trying to keep the team together, and throwing the Force around him in an attempt to slow the walls? That was failing.

yCOkGrI.png

Omai Rhen, on the other hand, had fallen into the Force, concentrating on it, letting it surround him. He was relaxed, as much as one could be in this situation. He knew what was going to happen, they were going to be separated, and they would get back together. Then the would continue to the Citadel and cut the head off this snake that was making the darkness continue to surround Byss.

The red light. That was less expected. Omai perked up, and his blue lightsaber ignited. “You are going to have to prove that, Sith.” The blade spun as he set himself into the opening stance, and ready to duel the Sith.

Getting shunted around was never fun, but it was necessary to keep everything concealed until the last possible moment. She sensed everyone getting separated, with Omai being sent directly towards the cloning vats and Vyoro and Eldaah. He then disappeared from her senses, and she smiled. Omai had slipped into the spell of concealment Eldaah had erected. Excellent.

"Everyone alright?" she asked into her comlink. Her datapad was showing everyone had been shunted to different parts of the maze as blinking dots, constantly being updated from her apprentice's feed. "The Grand Marshal has disappeared. I think the Sith put up a spell of concealment. We need to hurry and regroup."

There was a growl and a Ravager appeared out of the gloom. A silent glare, eyes flashing yellow, put it at ease.

"Try and find your way north and keep heading that way," she instructed. "It should lead to the center if you keep going true north."

She closed her comlink, looking up.

"Maiyijia wa ri qo," she intoned. At her command, red crystals embedded in the walls started to glow, and with a smile she began walking along the path they illuminated in their dull red light. It would not be long.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Feel the power of the dark side!" Vyoro yelled, launching himself at Omai Rhen, throwing a series of powerful Djem So strikes at the Grand Marshal, trying to overwhelm his guard. Behind the erstwhile Sith Master, Eldaah continued to watch, maintaining the spell of concealment that would obscure the events here from any Jedi's vision. Her Master would be greatly disappointed if the end game they had planned failed at this critical stage.

After the strikes, and presumably when Omai launched his own, Vyoro would slip into a defensive stance. He knew his goal was to keep the Grand Marshal occupied until their Master arrived. He knew to play the part of attacker and defender with a blade though, and he would play the part well.

Coren was looking around. He was not liking being separated. But there wasn’t anything he could do. He wasn’t sure where he was and his lightsaber was just giving him another path. He nodded and kept moving. Reaching out to the Force, he was feeling for traps. He knew they would be there, he needed to find them before he was caught up in another sithspawn flood. If that happened, he wasn’t sure what he’d have to do to get past.

He heard the voice over the commlink. “This is Starchaser, I understand.” He kept moving, at a quick pace, and that was when he heard it. A Ravager. A dark grin crept on Coren’s face as he steadied himself and his lightsaber. Time to deal with this problem, first. The Force blanketed him in a barrier as the man rushed forward, lightning arcing around his body in an emerald glow as his orange lightsaber came up and removed a limb from the Ravager. Turning, he could sense more.

They would not last.

yCOkGrI.png

Omai was meeting the Sith with the same form, Djem Sho. He was a Jedi, and the way of the Krayt was his preferred way of dispatching the Sith. Falling into the Force, his reaction time and speed of his defense and offense was quickening, as he pressed on to the Sith. The Jedi Grand Marshal was keeping up the pace, and working to find out where this fight was going.

This man wasn’t staying in an offensive stance, it meant there had to be something else. He was going to keep the assault up, and was broadcasting in the Force, hoping to find… anyone. This fight would need to end soon.

Every step through the maze brought her closer to where she knew Omai Rhen was. She could feel the others fighting to reach where the Grand Marshal had vanished from their senses. Her pets would keep them distracted just long enough for the deed to be done. The red crystals continued to illuminate her path, leading her deeper into the maze and closer to the cloning lab. Every creature she encountered bowed its head in submission to their creator before being sent to attack the other Jedi present.

Still, best to make it feel like she was having to fight. Directing some of her monsters to attack near her, she dispatched them with her lightsaber, ever moving closer to the cloning labs. They were just ahead, she could hear the cracking of lightsabers against each other. Composing herself for the final bit of the farce, she had the crystals' light fade away. It could only be seen by those who could touch the dark side, but no point in takign chances.

"Grand Marshal!" she called, taking down two more Festerers. Oh yes, this would be sweet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vyoro, to his credit, was doing a decent job in fighting against the Grand Marshal. He couldn't launch another offensive against the man, his mastery of Djem So was incredible, but he could defend long enough for his Master to arrive. Already, he could see the purple lightsaber further behind the dueling pair, and her words carried to the pair as she approached.

"Blast!" he cursed, backing away quickly and unleashing a burst of Force Lightning from his free hand at Taeli's quickly nearing form. All to perpetuate the farce for another few precious moments. "Apprentice! Come fight alongside your Master!"

Eldaah didn't move, didn't even move to ignite her lightsaber. She knew her role, and that was to maintain the spell. To Rhen, it would appear she was deciding whether to make a play to usurp her Master or come to his aid.

To say Coren Starchaser was not every bit of himself a Blood Knight for the Alliance and the Light Side was to not know the definition of the Blood Knight. He was a Jedi, like his father, like his friends, like the galaxy needed. And these beasts of pure Sith creation? They were not going to stand a chance against him. He knew that he could burn them out of existance with the light side. And he wasn’t afraid to use it. And if it failed? There was his lightsaber. Other Jedi were stronger, or more well versed in both the Force and the lightsaber, but he had the ferocity he needed.

Lightning arced around his body as he kept moving, swinging his blade to remove limbs from the Sithspawn, knowing every second he tarried here was another second the Dark Side was moving unchecked, and increasing the danger to his friends. A punch, covered with the green stunning lightning of electric judgement hit the Sithspawn in the head, and Coren spun his blade around, cleaving the head from the monster.

He looked around, there was nothing here. He was pressing on

yCOkGrI.png

Omai Rhen was continuing the fight, he needed to end this fast. He knew that the Sith were going to become more dangerous as the fight continued on. Looking at his foe, he was launching another offensive, which was being defended, but he could keep pressing until his foe made a mistake. It would happen.

They were Sith.

He continued to press, he was hearing htem speak, but Omai Rhen was falling into the Force, into the valor and peace of the light side. He was moving on the Sith. But for a moment, he considered the other Sith. What were they doing? Then, that voice. He swung his blade, kicking the Sith in the chest and turned his head.

As she strode towards the Grand Marshal, watching him slip through Vyoro's guard and send him back with a kick to the chest, she gave him a grim smile. That grim smile slowly changed into a smug smirk, her eyes turning hard as she regarded the situation. She turned her head, looking at the winded Vyoro, to her apprentice keeping the Spell of Concealment up, to the Grand Marshal looking at her as only the warrior could when a supposed ally arrived to help dispatch the darkness before him.

"Ridasizi ri jina'tis," she intoned. The Marks of Darkness around her eyes blazed to life, glowing red as they unleashed her true powers. Omai would have a moment of surprise, one that she would savor and would send the memory of to the Dark Lord. Her will dug into the darkness all around, a black seeping mist appearing, twining together to form several tendrils of pure dark side energy.

"You chose... poorly," she mocked before unleashing the dark side tendrils to do their work. There would be no afterlife for Omai Rhen, no chance of becoming a Force Ghost or becoming one with the Force. His spirit would be completely and utterly obliterated, and what survived would be dragged down into oblivion. They would strike into his chest, disintegrating whatever matter they touched. A cool detachment was in her eyes as she watched the life leave Omai's.

"Tuma ri jina'tis," she whispered, her dark side powers retreating into hiding once more. Her apprentice dropped the Spell of Concealment, revealing the gaping wound in the Force that could only be the death of a powerful Force user. Reigniting her lightsaber, she nodded at Vyoro and immediately engaged him in lightsaber combat with Eldaah joining in to "help" Vyoro. Once Coren arrived, and it would be soon, he would see taeli struggling against what ostensibly would be the cause of Omai's cold corpse lying on the ground.

These Sithspawn were starting to… fall back? What was going on in this house of horrors. Was the fight on the surface going better than he thought? The fog of this planet, even trained as a Sentinel, was hurting his vision, the Force was clouded. He was moving quickly, he wasn’t sure where, but this temple, these ruins, were going to lead him to where he should be, weren’t they? He had that feeling. Keeping moving, he entered the next room, the one that felt… worse than the others.

He knew what had happened. He didn’t even need to think. Omai Rhen was dead. And Taeli Raaf was fighting the Sith. Not thinking, Coren reached out, and as he moved, the lightsaber of Omai Rhen would vanish, with a small pop, appearing in Coren’s hand. He had his orange blade extinguished, and the next thing he was doing, was an act of sheer vengeance. Lacking the capability to move himself by a jump or speed boost, Coren collected the Force to himself and folded space once more, folding himself into the fight.

As he landed near Taeli with the pop, it was followed by a snap-hiss of two lightsabers, one orange, one blue. As he materialized, there would be a blast of pure Force energy that would knock anyone not ready for it back, friend or foe alike. Making his steps towards what he felt to be the stronger Force presence among the dark siders gathered, Coren swung the blue-blade down.

[member="Taeli Raaf"]

[member="Coren Starchaser"]

His Master had not explained that particular Jedi had exotic skills. There had been no warning at all. One moment, the Jedi Starchaser was at the other end of the room. He had savored that. And the next, the man was in the midst of them, a blast of Force energy driving him and Eldaah back. His Master must have sensed it coming as she had projected a bubble around herself. How had she... he didn't have time to ponder his Master of what abilities she had. All he had to worry about was the sky-blue saber blade coming down at him... and his lightsaber was not in a position to guard.

The blade struck him from shoulder to hip, slicing down diagonally. Vyoro blinked in surprise as his lightsaber fell from nerveless fingers. As his life began to leave him as well, the cold void rushing to devour him, he saw his Master. She was in her role, but in her eyes... there was approval.

"My life... for the Lady of Secrets..." Vyoro gasped, his head rolling back, eyes unseeing. For her part Eldaah was actually concerned about Starchaser folding space to attack her next, but he had just committed revenge... her Master would certainly be pleased. And Vyoro was no real loss. With a salute, she wrapped the Force around herself, concealing her physical form and her presence in the Force. It was time to retreat.

Stepping over to Coren slowly, Taeli deactivated her lightsaber.

"They killed him... right in front of me," she said, her voice sounding like she was holding back a sob. "Dark side tendril... there was nothing I could do..."
