Gatz allowed himself a smirk at Valery's boast. She was right. Too often criminals put all their time and energy into puffing out their chests, only to have the wind taken out of their sails when things went awry—usually because a single element was out of their control. Today, that element was the two of them: a man who knew the criminal underworld inside and out, and a woman with a talent for getting mixed up in situations she had no business being mixed up in.

He liked to think that was what made them such a good team: their spontaneity.

"Should I act like an ass to you in front of them? To make our little 'rivalry' feel more realistic?"

"I think that's a good idea. It'll make it more believable when I 'betray' you to them. Just... if you're gonna throw insults, I draw the line at orphan jokes."

Valery set The Red Night down with a practiced skill, because of course she did. She was an incredible pilot. Gatz had never doubted that, it was simply hard to tell someone 'here, have have the keys to my house, go fly it into an asteroid field.' But she hadn't so much as put a scratch on his ship's hull, and that was worth noting.

"Alright," Gatz sighed, "I can't pretend that wasn't a textbook landing. Maybe... maybe I'll let you fly my ship more often."

Gatz stood from his seat, and turned for the door. There was no point in delaying, not when they had a shipment to pick-up. Not when they had a drug cartel to bust. He made an amused noise in his throat at that thought. Here he was, fighting the spice trade instead of being part of it. Life really was a funny thing, wasn't it.

"So, before I drop the ramp..." Gatz trailed off, "how exactly am I betraying you? Like, what is it you're 'doing' to wrong them?"

"Damn right, that was a perfect landing," Valery said smugly as she rose from her seat to get ready for the mission. "I've seen you make worse landings." She was pushing it now, but if she had to be a horrible person to him, why not start already? He cared a lot about his ship, so that was something she could easily be mean about.

This was easier than she thought it'd be!

The two Jedi then made their way to the ramp, but Valery stopped when Gatz asked her a question, "Maybe my plan is to take their shipment and replace it with a fraudulent one? I'd deliver fake spice and get these people in trouble, while I take off with the real deal to cash in." She wasn't sure if that'd work out, but Gatz knew how spice trade worked far better than she did. If anybody could judge her plan, he was the one.

"Either that or maybe the plan is to sell info about their business to a competitor?"

"I've seen you make worse landings."

His eye twitched again. Did this ancient relic really think she could handle his ship better than he could? She couldn't even handle her holotv at home! Gatz had seen first hand how she struggled with something as simple as a remote. And yet here she was, boasting that she could fly his complex spacecraft at a level that he couldn't? Nah, no freakin' way.

"I'm sorry, who put a dent in The Bastion? I believe that was you, during a shoddy landing. What happened, did your age finally catch up with your eyesight?"

Gatz heard Valery's plan, even through the mass of his bruised ego. He rather liked the idea of a fraudulent shipment. It wasn't all that uncommon for swindlers to sell a brick of spice that was mostly a lot of sand. So, the existence of previous scams like that would make their lie just that much more believable. Val might have been old, but at least her mental faculties weren't degrading yet.

"I like it. I'll rat you out, earn their trust... and we'll wing it from there."

What did this organization do to people who betrayed them, Gatz wondered. Would they try to shoot her right there and then, or would they throw her in a holding cell for the boss to deal with? They were working with a lot of unknown factors here. In the criminal underworld, that was both the norm, and the thing that got so many people killed.

So be it. They'd already come this far.

Gatz hit the button to lower the ramp, and gestured for Valery, the "owner" of The Red Night, to step down first.

"I'm sorry, who put a dent in The Bastion? I believe that was you, during a shoddy landing. What happened, did your age finally catch up with your eyesight?"

She didn't look at him with her usual death glare when he made jokes about her age or flying skills. No, her lips spread into an even wider grin, meant to be as annoying as it could be, "Hmm, seems I struck a nerve there, flyboy." Valery waggled her brows and maintained eye contact for another few annoying seconds.

She was getting the hang of this whole act!

"Sounds like a plan," Valery said when they finally walked down the ramp. "The plan will undoubtedly get me in some kind of trouble, so please monitor it closely. I can't exactly draw a lightsaber or reveal myself as Jedi the second things get heated, but if it goes too far, we'll have to blow cover." She was willing to take risks, but she wasn't going to let herself get very seriously injured or killed just to play this role.

They'd have to adapt along the way.

As they walked down the ramp, Valery spotted a few figures moving their way. One was dressed in expensive clothes, while the others looked like they were ready for a fight.

"Alright, here goes."
