DESCRIPTION
The Void Ring is a special alchemized creation made by Vanessa Vantai. Those who wear it essentially have a single use 'get-out-of-being-Force-Lighted' card. The ring will break after being used. Vanessa creates these on an extremely small scale.

How does something made from the dark side succeed in preventing force light from impacting anything else aside from the ring? Is there some process behind this, some explanation or reasoning?

The material in the ring has pretty much been alchemized via a specific set of procedures to absorb the entirety of the energy of a Force Light attack and only a Force Light attack. That's why it absorbs the attack. Of course the result is that the ring breaks and is incapable of ever being used again, but that's a small price to pay given what it prevents from occurring. I don't think there's some sort of specific canon or Chaos canon ritual to create a ring with this property, so just went with the standard "it's been alchemized to specifically do this."

How does this fare against wall of light and continued exposure to force light over a longer periods of time than a single momentary burst?

Given Wall of Light consists of multiple Jedi working together, the ring would likely absorb the energy for a second or two, then shatter, exposing the Sith wearing it to the Wall of Light. As for sustained Force Light - the ring would likely be able to absorb that specific attack for an extended period of time, but would shatter upon the power ending use by the attacking Jedi.
