Intended as a large pocket carrier, the Venturous-class cruiser is capable of fielding a full wing of fighters without sacrificing combat effectiveness and becoming a liability needing special protection. While made in the traditional wedge shape allowing most of the firepower to be directed forward while maintaining strong broadsides, the rear isn’t left totally defenseless either. Point defense cannons and several turbolasers mean that while this area is less defended, it’s not an entirely safe place to attack from. Uniquely, there is a small ‘guest hanger’ located at the rear of the superstructure’s base capable of servicing a small number of shuttles. This was to keep visitors away from the rush and dangers of an active flight hanger while also neatly confining them away from ship operations. It also provides a nice spot out of the way to stash a private vessel.
Aware of how tempting a target the exposed bridge could be, it is in fact one of the most heavily armored portions of the ship and is further protected by a pair of dedicated point-defense lasers. In addition, a secondary bridge every bit as capable as the primary is sunk deep into the cruiser’s main body, providing a layer of redundancy in an emergency.
Like most ORR ships, the Venturous was designed around reliability and ease of maintenance ensuring these ships will provide long-term service at a comparatively low-cost. As such, it was aggressively marketed towards small and planetary governments as an all-in-one solution to fleeting needs and a ready-made fighter platform.
