  • GENERAL INFORMATION

Veyra Saelis is a young but increasingly dangerous corsair operating in the Mid-to-Outer Rim sectors. Once a citizen and martial student, she turned to piracy following the destruction of her home by opportunistic raiders. In the aftermath, Saelis seized control of the very pirate ship responsible, allegedly through single combat and crew intimidation, and refitted it under her command.

She has since built a reputation for precise violence, calm leadership, and unnervingly disciplined raids, unusual for Outer Rim corsairs. Her decision-making exhibits a rare balance of tactical intellect and emotional volatility. Despite her youth, she commands loyalty through fear, competence, and personal presence rather than through sheer brutality alone.

Recent intelligence points to a potential cooperation with what may be an Imperial task group, suggesting pragmatic motivations rather than ideological loyalty. She remains hostile to Republic intervention and has shown a personal vendetta against Republic-aligned trade convoys, militia patrols, and those in esteemed positions.

“Veyra Saelis isn’t a warlord, not yet. She’s too young, too precise, too angry for that kind of patience. But she’s learned the value of leverage — and she’s learning it fast. Give her ten more years and a bigger ship, and she won’t be a pirate anymore. She’ll be a power.”

  • HISTORY

Veyra Saelis was born to a mixed-lineage family on Mon Gazza. Her mother, Tali Saelis, was an Echani instructor who exemplified disciplined, elegance, and devotion to physical dialogue as a means of truth. Her father, Verran, was Sephi that served as her foil with his pragmatism, suspicions of the large governing systems, and his near-obsessive sense of independence.

Their home was small but stable. From her mother, Veyra learned movement as language with combat as conversation, restraint as strength. From her father, she learned mistrust of all things including governments, of institutions, and of promises too easily spoken by those with too much authority.

But youth dulls wisdom. Veyra was restless where her parents were patient. She found sparring tiresome without stakes, practice hollow without purpose. The galaxy beyond Mon Gazza called to her though not for duty or destiny, but for the thrill of proving she could thrive in it. At seventeen, that arrogance met consequence.

When a pirate gang operating out of the Outer Rim raided the local Pyke trade station, Pyke forces failed to respond in time to stop the worst of the damage. The assault was brief and devastating. The Saelis home was leveled as collateral damage in the attack on the nearby station. Her parents were among the dead.

Veyra survived, left half-buried under the ruins of her family’s home. Left arm crushed beyond repair. When she awoke in a clinic days later, Pyke agents offered nothing. Local altruists offered condolences and emancipation paperwork. No answers. No pursuit of the raiders. No justice.

In that silence of aid, something broke.

Veyra tracked the pirates for months using rumor, transponder codes, and instinct. By the time she found them, their small ship, the Hound’s Mercy, was limping through the edge of the mid-rim after a failed raid. She boarded alone under the pretense of parley and struck first.

Accounts vary wildly from that point. Some say she killed the original captain outright. Others claim she challenged him to single combat, invoking the Echani creed of “understanding through conflict.” Whatever the truth, by the end of that night, Veyra Saelis was the ship’s captain, and the survivors were her crew.

She kept the ship’s name. Telling herself it was poetic justice in the way that she’d taken back the tools used to destroy her home. But deep down, she knew it was because she liked how it sounded. It made her feel powerful.

The years that followed reshaped her.

Her mother’s teachings of patience, empathy, and measured intent became armor she wore only when convenient. She adopted her father’s suspicion wholesale, turning it into cynicism. When others saw lawlessness, she saw freedom.

She raided convoys under the justification of “taking what was owed.”

She attacked pirates she once might’ve allied with, claiming moral superiority while profiting from the spoils.

And when her cybernetic arm, a salvage refit she installed herself, began to respond faster than her living limb, she started to trust it more than her instincts.

Her crew followed her partly out of loyalty, partly out of fear. She was daring, clever, and vicious when cornered. All traits the Outer Rim respected. Yet those who had known her on Mon Gazza would have seen the difference instantly; the gentle girl who once sought understanding through combat was now one who sought control through it.

  • APPEARANCE

Veyra Saelis carries herself with a deceptively calm posture — shoulders relaxed, movements fluid, gaze direct. Every gesture has precision, an inherited grace from her Echani lineage sharpened by years of survival outside civilized space. Despite her youth, she gives the impression of someone who has already endured multiple lives.

Her skin tone is a muted ivory-gold, with a faint luminescence under certain lighting showing a subtle inheritance from her Sephi ancestry. Her hair, cut in uneven shoulder-length layers, is white with cool silver undertones, often tied back or allowed to fall across her shoulders rather than in any style of her fathers lineage.

Her eyes are a pale silver-gray, almost colorless, giving her an unsettlingly analytic stare that seems to measure movement before it happens. When she focuses, she rarely blinks; her intensity often leaves others uneasy, even without words.

Her facial structure bears the soft symmetry typical of Sephi lineage with high cheekbones, refined chin, and sharply pointed ears though it is tempered by Echani sharpness in the jaw and brow. The combination lends her an air of cold beauty, a presence that commands attention more through precision than ornamentation.

A thin scar runs diagonally from the corner of her right eye toward her temple as a memento from the pirate raid that destroyed her colony. Despite its subtlety, she has never concealed it. When asked, she reportedly replied: “It reminds me that I didn’t die quietly.”

Her expressions are rare but cutting; a faint smirk, a flash of irritation, or a wordless glare that freezes subordinates mid-sentence. Her stillness is deliberate as a learned restraint used as intimidation.

The prosthesis is highly-polished unknown alloy with visible micro-actuator veins beneath transparent plating near the elbow joint suggesting a mix of military and improvised engineering. The surface bears scratches, heat scoring, and deliberate engravings. Not decorative, but functional etchings for grip calibration and modular attachment.

She refuses cosmetic coverings, preferring its mechanical exposure as a warning rather than a blemish. Crew reports note she uses the limb both as a tool and as psychological leverage by casually resting it on a table during negotiations, or clenching it audibly when displeased.

  • PERSONALITY

Veyra Saelis maintains a controlled and measured presence in nearly all observable circumstances. Her emotional displays are largely calculated and seldom genuine, often strategic. She employs silence as a weapon, using pauses and unreadable expressions to unnerve those around her. Even in moments of tension, she prefers observation to action until the last possible instant, when she acts decisively and without hesitation.

Saelis’s decision-making is driven by a mixture of emotional impulse and disciplined tactical logic despite her silence. Her background as an Echani martial student manifests in how she approaches problems by analyzing intent through motion, posture, and tone. However, when faced with perceived betrayal or injustice, emotion overrides this training. These moments produce her most ruthless actions in precise, efficient, but fueled by rage she does not acknowledge openly.

Saelis leads her crew by example, not by speech. Her crew describes her as “cold, but fair.” She doesn’t shout orders; she issues them once, with the expectation they will be followed. Punishments are rare but far more personal; a single look or word from her carries more weight than violence.

Despite her ruthless tendencies both in perceived calm and otherwise, she has earned a form of loyalty built on respect and fear. Her crew understands that she doesn’t protect them out of compassion but instead out of purpose. She rewards competence, despises waste, and has little tolerance for moral posturing.

Interestingly, she maintains a loose internal code that may be a holdover she cannot let go of entirely. She is not altruistic, but she remains consistent. She refuses to attack civilian colonies without cause, avoids unnecessary bloodshed, and ensures fair division of spoils.

Despite all of this, Veyra exhibits controlled empathy. She understands others’ emotions instinctively and instead engages with them selectively. When she chooses to connect either through charm, intimidation, or camaraderie, it feels deliberate; like a switch being flipped rather than someone actually concerned or interested in any way.

Her use of charm is a strategic tool. She can soften her tone, adopt a relaxed stance, and offer wry humor when it serves her interest, only to withdraw it instantly once the goal is achieved. Those who mistake her brief warmth for trust often find themselves manipulated into compliance.

She dislikes flattery, reacts poorly to authority, and shows visible irritation toward bureaucratic behavior or moral hypocrisy.

In combat, Saelis becomes unnervingly still. She moves efficiently, rarely wasting a gesture. Her Echani reflexes and Sephi balance create an impression of inevitability with every strike or shot appearing premeditated to a degree.

She shows a preference for close-range engagement, often combining blaster fire with melee precision, and utilizing her cybernetic left arm for disarming or disabling opponents rather than outright killing unless provoked or outnumbered.

However, once pushed, she becomes methodical in her violence. Observers note a tendency to escalate brutality proportionally to emotional or environmental triggers. She doesn’t lose control; she chooses to allow the violence.

    STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

Jack of All Trades: Veyra despises waste, and that extends to potential skills a being can have from mundane to combat skills. While she may be the captain of the ship, she actively participates in a number of maintenance and operation tasks to better understand the capabilities of those around her. This extends to combat drills for boarding teams as well, forming a strange sort of synergy.
Physical Ability: Being an Echani-Sephi hybrid, there is grace behind her Echani Fighting capability that is highly abnormal. From everyday tasks such as turning a wrench to handling a vibroblade and blaster, Veyra exudes a self-assured confidence in whatever she is doing.

Isolation Tendencies: Saelis avoids long-term attachment; isolating herself emotionally from her crew which presents a risk of erratic decision-making when under personal stress.
Emotional Reactivity: While disciplined on the surface, she remains deeply reactive to perceived betrayal, failure to act, or authority imposing itself upon her.
Defiance of Authority: Rejects hierarchy unless it serves her immediate goals. Cooperation with the Imperial Remnant is transactional, not ideological.
