Unstill Waters [Knights Obsidian]

x4dWlj.gif

A remote world of swamps, Jagomir was a planet that most people did not even bother to think about when they thought about planets. Offering virtually nothing that attracted anyone’s attention, it wasn’t too large of a surprise for the Archivists of the Knights Obsidian to discover that an artifact by the Flesh Stone had been hidden there; a stone that, according to myths and legends, would increase the physical prowess of anyone tethered to it thrice-fold.

A group of Knights Obsidian has been dispatched to Jagomir to find it. A handful of Pathfinders that arrived earlier to scout the area discovered that that the cave in which the artifact is supposed to be is entirely flooded, a lake having formed around and above it over the centuries. However, the water of the lake can be drained via a nearby dam.

Reports also include that the waters as well as the waters are infested by violent and blood-thirsty Evarrians, the skies are full of Azurdactyls, and in between them all as well as the watchtower in which the dam’s controls are located, are all filled with the undead.

Pathfinder Madalena Antares ([member="Scherezade deWinter"]) has been assigned to lead the Knights Obsidian group through this mission, after having undergone rigorous training both on her own and with the Dominus [member="Cardinal Vi'dreya"] over the past few months.

The mission is forward enough: get to the tower to open the dam, then get to the cave to retrieve the artifact, and then get to the extraction point.

All participating Knights Obsidian have just landed via droppods at the makeshift camp built by the scouting parties. The makeshift camp is located a walking distance from the lake and is surrounded by defensive machinery.

OOC Notes:
  • In this mission, the KO are going to fight their way to get the Flesh Stone, which will later be added to the KO inventory... Unless someone accidentally breaks it.
  • Characters who will be active in this mission and see it through to the end will receive this after it is over.
  • This story was designed with the thought that it would be shorter than a Dominion.

Madalena looked around at their surroundings. Jagomir was not a very inviting place, the very air thick with foreboding of the dangers that anyone coming here was to face. Straight up, the place looked like a scene that had come directly out of a horror-holo. She absolutely loved it, even though she wished there was some more civilization to be find on the planet.

The opportunity to lead this mission had taken her by surprise. She still thought she was considered new by local standards, having officially been with the Knights Obsidian for under two months, but she welcomed the opportunity with both hands. Ever since joining, she had been working her butt off, going on mission after mission, training for hours on end, trying to improve herself and show that she was worthy.

She’d been standing for the past ten minutes with a datapad in hand, going over all the information that the Archivist had gathered about the planet and what they were to do. It was going to be dangerous, but nothing too out of the ordinary for what the Knights Obsidians were used to dealing with. She just hoped that enough people would show to avoid unnecessary dangers that came about due to too small a number of people.

Some Knights had already landed and were preparing to leave. Others were still dropping in.

Madalena bit her lower lip for a moment and took in a breath. She was going to make it work. She was going to lead whoever was here through this mission, get the Flesh Stone, and get everybody home, safe and sound. There was no other option as far as she was concerned.

“Gear up if you haven’t yet,” she shouted, ignoring the dangers that were already flying overhead, “we leave in exactly ten minutes!”

The motion sick Tusken was currently resting at the camp. If he was with his clan they'd probably let him know it was because he was away from the mother land, Tatooine. Plus he wasn't as trusting of drop pods after the last time he was in one and it got shot out of the sky. Part of him kind of miss his more relaxed life after leaving his clan and before the CIS. Yeah sure he was angry and confused all the time but he didn't need to get up early for simple fetch quests. Then again maybe he still using Tatooine's time as his biological clock he would be as tired most of the time.

Plus he didn't know why the path finders needed him here anyways. They seemed more then capable for handling this task. Yet he really shouldn't be all upset over being called out here. Otherwise he be back on his home world as a sort of protector. Trying to expand his umbrella of protection to more then just Tuskens. Even though a lot of people didn't want help from a basic speaking Tusken.

Probably the worst part was that h was in a swamp, which was too "noisy" as he put it. Too many living creatures to sense, it was overwhelming. Also, A'Runda didn't like mud, it was wet, squishy, and it gets everywhere. Or at least it seemed like it did. All this and almost forgetting the person in charge, the Quirky [member="Scherezade deWinter"]. Who was now going by a different name from what he heard in the order. He didn't know why though, just figured it was must be a more normal thing outside of where he'd from. Or it had to do with her odd behavior. After hearing what she said, he thought that be enough time to get over his motion sickness.

If it was not for the lack of vegetation this place would have been very similar to Degoba, damp wet and seemingly filled to the brim with creatures that were out to eat you. Such type of animal only seemed to come from worlds that had little human activity, probably since on such world they were on top of the food chain, here it was the opposite. Not that it mattered, it would just give her the chance to skin some new beasts and gift them back to her husband, he was a sucker for new things.

As for the mission before them was an interesting one, an artifact that increased the users strength 3 fold? Being twice as strong as a regular human was already a significant boots, combined with the force and such a relic her physical power could very well become 6 times that of a regular athletic human. Not that she would get to use it, such a device would be turned over to the archivist and kept away from those that would use such abilities for ill fate.

Still some things about this mission seemed odd, most notable was [member="Scherezade deWinter"] or rather Madaline being put in charge of the mission, true she knew who was really was but their personality was different. Their skill was not the same and much more they still had not fully familiarized themselves with the CIS. Either the higher ups still considered her as Scherezade or the proportion system was still skewed in favor of people with family ties, seemed she never progress any further in the hierarchy at this rate.

As she stood to the side, overlooking the waters and the future path way that they planned to proceed only turning her head at the words of their leader. "Already done that, to be on such a world and not have your gear all ready is just asking to get attacked a die", she replied walking back over to the group, which included [member="A'Runda"] strangely enough. "May I ask who is taking point and rear guard on this assignment"?

A cold rattling of metal against metal and the dull glow of low electronic light filled the tiny metal coffin Kwelin had agreed to be launched from in low orbit. Ejected out into the void towards a swamp covered rock teeming with creatures that viewed humans with the same empathetic eyes that a hunter might give to prey. The knot that had formed in his stomach vanished when the glare from the system's star shot around Jagomir's own formidable presence, causing Kwelin to squint despite the shielding on the pod's slim viewport. As Jagomir grew closer Kwelin found himself overwhelmed at the scene, and at the myriad of circumstances that had led to his participation in such an event. Before he would've attributed everything to chance, but the shiny new metal cylinder on his utility belt and his benefactors in the Knights Obsidian had warped his perceptions. There did seem to be a general current to existence.

Heat and air buffeted the pod as the vessel's predetermined course pulled machine and man through the planet's cloud layers. Kwelin's eyes shifted wildly at the miles of swampland that seemed to stretch endlessly into a hazy horizon. The pod's chute deployed and sent a comforting shake throughout the interior, signaling to the Pathfinder that he probably wouldn't have to worry about his buddies having to scrape pieces of his off of one of the world's large trees. Mud met metal and impacted with a rough jolt that sent tremors ringing through Kwelin's nerves. Nothing broken. Bit of a early forming headache. Not bad considering some of the horror stories he'd heard during drop school. A hiss pop sounded and sent the front of the pod careening into the thick mud that seemed to surround every inch of everything. Kwelin undid his heavy blaster's harness and pulled himself and his rifle onto the surface of the alien world.

Spread out and around similarly armored Knights of all stripes where organizing and landing, a show that sent exciting currents through what he was coming to learn as the Force. Kwelin put on his pack and moved towards the mission's CO, [member="Scherezade deWinter"] , catching the tail end of her instructions as he placed himself on the right flank of the makeshift camp, scanning the grim surroundings for any potential threat. He remained silent and awaited orders, ignoring the chattering that had begun in the back of his mind at the sight of a mask he'd sooner have shot than covered not so long ago. @A'Runda

Kyle Naktis landed on Jagomir about half an hour ago. He was leaning against a log checking his gear. His white robes with phrik armor over it. His white Hood up over his face hiding anything from the bridge if his nose up, only showing his scruffy blonde beard and a few strands of his blonde hair poking out of each side of his Hood. Kyle looked around the place, it was humid, wet, cold, misting and foggy. Felt like dagobah. Kyle didn't mind it, he's been to worse places. Kyle looked around at the other knights prepping for the mission ahead. This was interesting. He was a stealth assassin, not a grunt, Kyle didn't understand it but in time he's sure he would. Maybe it was his talents, being able to use both Dark and Light sides of the force. Or maybe it's because he could sneak into a heavily fortified base undetected then get back out without ever being known that he was there.

Kyle closed his eyes focusing on the force mentally preparing himself for whatever lied ahead. He wasn't sure what to expect though, he was informed the knights were after something called a flesh stone, whatever that is. Getting to some tower, then to a cave. Very interesting mission. Whatever this flesh stone was, it better be worth it Kyle thought to himself knowing he had better things to be doing. Kyle inhaled the air then exhaled in a sigh manner awaiting the time when they would move out. Kyle reached into his pouch on his belt and pulled out what looked like seeds and offered them to the beautiful white owl sitting on his shoulder. Kyle watched Xena Peck all the seeds out of his hand, Kyle then petted the beak of the owl then rubbed it's head softly giving a smile to his bird. Kyle loved Xena, she was his companion, a great pet, and even better scavenger and land surveyer.

Naedira was not a Pathfinder. She didn't dig in the muck, searching for clues, or waste a lot of time running down tips. She took care of problems in a more immediate fashion.

The dark-haired Knight was getting used to taking drop pods to the surface of random and terrifying worlds. It didn’t seem to matter how many unsavory elements they crushed in the galaxy. There was always something more. There was always something new that required extermination. The drop pods were made with the best materials, but still, they shook as if they might vibrate apart while they traveled through the atmosphere. Her teeth clenched together for a moment before they made landfall.

The thrusters caught them and Naedira exhaled slowly. From there it was generally smooth sailing to the ground. The Executor undid her harness and glanced over at her partner for this assignment. [member="Gerwald Lechner"]. He was taller than she was, easy on the eyes, but competent in the field. At least—That’s what his file said. Chestnut colored eyes flickered over him. “You all right?”

Sometimes, people couldn’t take the descent through atmo. On her last engagement, the Knight that had dropped with her had just about puked all over his own feet. A small squad of Dauntless Commandos had filled the empty spaces around them. The cloned soldiers still gave her the willies. She wasn’t used to seeing them on the side of the Confederacy. Normally, they fought them. They seemed to follow orders though and that was good enough.

It seemed as if they’d dropped in close enough to the designated campsite. The hood for her Knight Obsidian strike armor was left down, the hexagonal pattern gleaming, and the dark-eyed female found herself spinning in a slow circle to take in their surroundings. It would be a short jaunt to where they needed to be. “Let’s get our gear and head out. We’ll have to pass the lake to get where we need to be, so remember the reports and the warnings about the Evarrians. Intel says they’re especially blood-thirsty right now.”

She glanced toward Knight Lechner, just to make sure he was making headway, but found herself drawing many blanks when it came to his person. There were hundreds of Knights so it was no small wonder that not all of them knew each other. Naedira just wasn’t fond of taking on missions with people she didn’t know. Especially, a mission where they would likely be in danger, and forced into combat. She needed to know that her fellow Obsidian had her back.

The auburn-haired beauty hoisted a pack over her shoulder and waited for the rest of her party to join her before they began to head to the operating base to get their orders. There had been some scarce details about getting to a tower to find some sort of artifact but the group leading the search was located up ahead.

Gerwald shook his head. It had been months since his journey away from Stewjon and he was still a bit uneasy about the rough entry most drop pods made. The pilots were trained to get the troops in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible, that didn’t usually mean gentle. Gerwald was not going to hurl, his issue was more the fact that as a wolf, his feet belonged on the ground. He hated flying on smaller craft and much preferred the larger vessels that he had been used to on much larger campaigns. This why he didn’t often go on smaller missions, aside from his size.

The woman next to him seemed to have no issue, and he was a bit jealous of the fact. The strike armor they both ware marked them both as Knights Obsidian, but Gerwald’s training was severely limited. His best use was a brute warrior, and the lightsaber on his hip was a weapon he was still getting used to. A larger sword was on his back, and it would be used when needed.

When they landed and his feet hit the ground Gerwald almost dropped to his knees and kissed the dirt. The wolf within wanted him
to simply strip out of the armor and run free, but Gerwald was in full control in the moment and exercised the restraint that was needed in order to see their task accomplished. For now it was simple. Gerwald was the pack horse.

He lifted what they needed over his shoulder and began heading toward the basecamp. His eyes turned downward to take in the height difference between he and the stranger that he was paired with. Everyone was short compared to him that he met in the Confederacy.

“I will smell them long before you can sense them,” Gerwald said as he took in a deep breath in the direction of the basecamp. His file would have mentioned his uncanny ability to shift into a wolf, and as such, his sense of smell was rather keen even for a human. The man continued on without fear of what may find them. The beast was confident in his natural abilities and brute strength.

“Gear up if you haven’t yet, we leave in exactly ten minutes!”

The voice made Gerwald stop in his tracks. He’d never thought [member="Scherezade deWinter"] would be leading this mission, but here she was, or Maddy, whatever she went by now. Gerwald swallowed hard and pressed on.

“We are ready when you are,” he answered.

Looking to his partner again, Gerwald nodded hoping he was not out of place in speaking for her. It was simply a habit from his days among the warriors of Stewjon.

Madalena stood firm as she watched the Knights Obsidian gather around. All of them were pretty geared up to begin with, which was a comfort. She herself was usually a walking armory of weapons, and seeing others outfitted the same seemed to cares her senses. The creatures flying overhead gave enough of a warning out; they were not going to have an easy walk to any direction, and she was willing to wager that at most of the people gathered would be covered with blood long before they even got to the cave.

“I will decide as soon as everyone shows up,” she answered Pathfinder Yumi’s question with a nod, wishing first to make sure everyone had shown up. She flicked through her datapad, getting a few details on everyone, noting names and whatever else might come in handy during the mission. One of them had brought… An owl? Madalena had her own sort of familiar too, a Loth wolf that she had rescued in another mission, but she’d never considered brining him here. She made a note to watch Pathfinder Naktis and his owl, hoping she could learn something about keeping a majestic beast like that safe during a dangerous mission like this one.

And then the last two to join them, Executors Darcrath and Lechner… Madalena paused as she looked at him. She’d known the second he entered orbit that he was there, but now that he was so close, it was almost impossible for her to ignore his presence. She’d been sensing and feeling him in too many places, and it was during the festival on Hypori that she finally managed to speak with him. And he’s been rude. Still, the beacon shone in the dark light of Jagomir and she swallowed hard, forcing the rising feelings within her to still down. This was a mission, and she was a professional. She was going to treat him there like any other Knight Obsidian and he was going to get home safe and in one piece just like the others, even if he was the only non-human of the bunch. But she didn’t need a datapad to know that last bit.

Forcing herself to tear her eyes away, hoping no one would make a fuss over the the glow of her eyes that had flickered but for an instant, the Sithling nodded. Counting herself too, the group numbered three Pathfinders, two Executors, and an Adjudicator. She wished she could have had at least one Archivist in the group as well, but all those that were in the makeshift camp were non-combatants and would not be joining the mission itself. They would remain in the camp and pack everything up, waiting for a signal that it was time to leave. If too many things went wrong, they would know to escape. The extraction point wasn’t too far away.

“Knights Obsidian,” Madalena spoke, her voice booming over the eerie winds around them, “We’re on a mission to retrieve an artifact called the Flesh Stone. The artifact is inside a cave buried beneath this lake. We’re going to empty it first by opening the dam, and the controls to the dam are a walking distance away. Keep your weapons drawn, we have creatures in the air that would happily make a meal out of us, and there are reports of the undead walking around the area as well. Your comm devices are all equipment with trackers and the map, so whatever you do, do not remove your comm device!

And now they could embark. There was only the matter of Pathfinder Yumi’s earlier question. “Pathfinder Orlov, you walk in front with me. Executor Darcrath, Executor Lechner, you two take the rear. Anything tries to eat, kill, or maim anyone in this group, kill it first and we’ll make sure no questions are asked later. Off we go!”

Turning around, Madalena took a few deep breaths to calm her heart. The first bit was always the easiest one, since it was just talking. So much talking. But now they were leaving, and the mission had officially begun. She was going to prove worthy of both leading this group and of her placement within the Knights Obsidian, and she was not going to allow herself to be distracted by a certain someone.

As everyone could see on their maps, the tower was merely a mile away.

They marched.

Knight Lechner did not respond to her inquiry if he was well but the young woman took no offense. Very few liked to be called out when they weren’t at their best, especially, not by a female half their size. She let it be. He eventually stood tall and kept his lunch. That was as good an answer as any. Naedira raised her sidearm as they prepared to make the trek toward base camp and kept her stance tight. Some people moved like water, ever flowing, but the Nabooian woman was more precise. Her movements could be compared to that of a scalpel but rarely the essence of nature.

It held purity. She did not.

Dark eyes flickered when the wolf beside her mentioned that he would smell an incoming threat before she sensed it. Her finely arched eyebrow raised, tinged with professional amusement, before her voice broke the silence. It was light, but firm, coated in a questioning velvet. “Will you now?”

Whether he could or couldn’t wasn’t really on the forefront of her mind. Naedira made it her business not to go into a warzone with someone she didn’t, at least, know the basics about. She was more interested in seeing how he fought, how he moved, and how his extra sensory abilities played their part. She had worked with many a Knight in the past that held themselves with confidence. It was admirable, if, and only if, they had they means to back it up.

Whether Gerwald did or didn’t remained to be seen.

Her brow furrowed briefly once they made it to their destination and a feminine voice caused the wolf beside her to pause. It was her job to notice sudden differences and changes in those around her. Often, these observations drew the line between life and death. The voice in question belonged to Madalena Antares [[member="Scherezade deWinter"]] who was the Pathfinder leading the expedition. She had her own thoughts about this woman due to interactions with other individuals that held the same emerald eyes…But it was neither here nor there. All that mattered at the moment was that Knight deWinter was capable. And, that her partner, wouldn’t lose his footing at the sight of her. She made a mental note to address it at a later date.

Naedira felt her back unintentionally straighten as the briefing began. She was a Knight, through and through, and despite being an Executor tended to absorb details like a sponge. It helped to deal with her targets more efficiently. She hadn’t minded Knight Lechner speaking for the both of them. Naedira was less concerned about chain of command, propriety, versus getting the job done. He hadn’t said anything she hadn’t been thinking.

They were ready.

The Darcrath waited for the rest of their team to pass before she fell into step beside Gerwald. He carried far more of their gear than she did, but, she had no intention of putting away her sidearm. There was a sense of unease on this swamp-like world that was slowly permeating through her armor as it settled in her bones. She could smell grass, water, but beneath it there was also the scent of decay.

“Is there anything I should know?”, she questioned, softly, so as not to be overhead by the rest of the group. It gave her something else to focus on while her senses reached out like invisible fingers to the world around them. Searching for a threat. Having a discussion with Gerwald would not impede her ability to spot an enemy and deal with it accordingly.

Not to mention, as her partner claimed, he would smell it long before she sensed it.

Relationship Status: It's Complicated
“Yes,” Gerwald stated as matter of fact. His intention was not to give off an heir of superiority, but he may have. Being a Lupine allowed him the ability to do as he claimed, and in fact, he was picking up on several distinct scents near them alone. The thing about senseing something was it had to be intentional, usually. One had to reaching out with their force sense, but Gerwald simply smelled the air every time he breathed it in.

The Executor kept a steady pace the entire way to the camp. He was itichung for some kind of conflict, it was the specialty of the path he had chosen. Gerwald has always been a foot soldier, and in this role he was really no different. Most of his missions involved taking a base or storming the enemy and killing as many as he could. Once his ability to shift into a wolf was used, but most of the time his human form was what they called upon. The woods tempted him though. Gerwald was overdue for a long run.

Laying his eyes on [member="Scherezade deWinter"] had been a surprise, but it was soon gone. This was an assignment, she was the leader, and he could follow orders. His head nodded when the orders came, and Gerwald himself hung back as the rest of the team pushed out.

Naedira asked if there was anything she needed to know about the situation. A deep breath was drawn into his lungs and let out as soon as it was taken in.

“Nothing that matters to the mission... but perhaps... I have had a very complicated relationship with our leader, but it will not keep me from doing my job or following orders.”

Gerwald put his hand on her forearm and stopped them both from moving foreword. His nose sniffed the air in a few rapid successions breaths. His sharp blue eyes looked to the shorter woman.

“We are being followed...”

After the order to start heading out was given, the Tusken got up from his position. Lackadaisically, he too began to march with the group, choosing to stay near the rear in front of [member="Gerwald Lechner"] and [member="Naedira Darcrath"]. Not that he didn't think the mission was important, he just thought that him being an Adjudicator was a roll best suited somewhere else, and that an Archivist should fill in for him. After all they were retrieving an artifact. So one could say A'Runda was lacking the investment that would probably be desired by the rest of the group, if not then just Madalena. [[member="Scherezade deWinter"]] He walked slightly, but noticeably to the side of their marching order. Being just enough out of the way from the group.

As told he had his weapon drawing his Curved Lightsaber handle, he messed with the surprisingly heavy piece of hardware by twirling it in his hand with his fingers without trying to drop it. Which of course, he did. Overestimating the strength of his fingers the lightsaber slipped and fell onto the muddy ground. "Trrru'uunqa..." (An interjection of frustration) A'Runda muttered to himself. Now his weapon was dirty, if even just a little.

Meanwhile, something swiftly moved through the brush, something large and rather unfriendly. Something the Tusken couldn't sense as being one of what felt like a million living things around them. So as A'Runda bent down and picked it up, the dense brush directly beside him rustled for a second. Perking up some, A'Runda casually looked over only to see the head of a rather large something peering back at him. Before the Tusken could even regret his carelessness the creature reared itself up, and with one of its clawed appendages swiped down on A'Runda, cutting down the side of his arm. "AHH!" He let out a pretty short and loud scream. Grabbing his cut arm with one hand he stumbled back and fell over. Easily one could imagine that he'd simply fainted, or less fortunately, died. However, neither was the case, he was paralyzed with a quite potent, quite deadly toxin. Now helpless, the careless Tusken's chances of being consumed by a naster creature has increased ten fold at least.

Kyle was walking along side Scherezade when he heard the scream. Kyle turned to see the creature and A'runda on the ground. Kyle pulled out his lightsabers activating them the red and purple blades running at a full sprint he leaps into the air and starts slashing at the creature cutting it up.

Kyle feels a sharp pain in a gap between his armor but ignores it while furiously slashing at the creature. Things started getting blurry but Kyle focused on the force to guide him. Kyle gave one last swing and then Kyle had cut the creature through the throat killing. Kyle aside as the creatures body fell dead. Kyle deactivated his lightsabers putting them away.

Kyle stumbled to A'runda to check on him, but then Kyle's body begin going numb. Kyle realised his wound was a poisonous wound from the creature. Kyle fell to his knees then rolled over falling onto his back unable to move lying next to A'runda.

Kurenai glanced around, looking at the others she the group started to become more organized a few latecomers showing up to join the trek [member="Gerwald Lechner"] and his lady friend [member="Naedira Darcrath"]. Two people she had seen in combat and heard about but had yet to talk let along go on a mission with them at some point.

It was certainly a surprising mix but not a bad one, the different sects of the knightly order would probably be able to lend each other their expertise in the different fields they partook in. That and for once the squad was part of people she was at least familiar with to some extent, made anticipating their action and combat tactics that little bit easier.

Out of the whole group [member="A'Runda"] was probably the person she knew the most about, the two having been in a few sparing matches and missions together, herself taking a more center position to the group. With seven people in the group that would make things nice and even and make the most out of the numbers they had while trudging through the knee deep water her force infused spear like weapon in hand as.

No more then a few minutes into the walk had her sensed pick up upon a smell like the skin changer at the back of the group, herself sniffing at the air, turning to her side to spy what was nearby. Such did not take long to figure out as before anyone else could react the Tusken was assaulted by the strange native beasts, such quickly being dispatched by [member="Kyle Naktis"] in a rather brutal and careless fashion both falling over into the water from the poisoness bites.

Rushing over to the two she used the force to pull them from the water, placing both flat on a small out cropping, "does anyone here have some sort of healing power with the force"? She asked, using bacta spray to seal up the tuskens wounds and prevent anymore bleeding, "if memory serves me correctly the venom from those beasts break down internet organs not just paralyze, if they do not get help soon they will die from multiple organ failure". Such being the fate for quite a few rebels soldiers during the galactic civil war and though not there personally had heard the reports surrounding the death of the scouting party.

She smiled. Truthfully, it was more of a smirk. Knight Lechner was, at the very least, certain in his abilities. Naedira did not have much personal experience working alongside men that spent about three-quarters of their time on all fours baying at the moon. For such a large man he seemed to be keeping her pace while they walked. It felt strange. Normally her ponytail would bounce back and forth or her braided tresses would smack against her back like a thin rope while she tried to keep up. Now, it was carried by the breeze over brisk movement.

The briefing itself was over just as quickly as it began. Nae didn’t know what to think save for the fact that it sounded way too easy. Nothing on a world with so many variables would ever work like the smooth running clockwork it was designed after. She remained silent when Gerwald gave her the bare minimum required to understand his connection to the Pathfinder in charge. Her lips thinned as she frowned but it wasn’t entirely with disapproval. Her eyes held a certain level of concern. “Relationships among coworkers can be problematic.”

So, he could keep his composure. Could she?

The hand of her partner kept her from moving forward and she obeyed. While she might have questioned his sense of smell, she wasn’t foolish, or haughty enough to discount it. Were they being followed? Perhaps. When she focused, she could feel movement all around, and basic intent. More than anything it felt like they were being lured by a predator into a—

Screaming [[member="A'Runda"]] caught her attention and she pulled her sidearm higher to point it in the direction of the noise.

A trap. It felt like they were being herded.

Another Knight [[member="Kyle Naktis"]] went down before she could get a clear shot. What were they thinking? Hadn’t they read the write up on Jagomir before they landed? These swamps were supposed to be filled with Evarrian creatures that were starving. [member="Kurenai Yumi"] took the words right out of her mouth and she nodded at the dark-haired Knight. “Your memory is perfect. It’s on their claws.”

Chestnut eyes flickered with topaz streaks when she glanced back at her partner. The two downed men would need to wait. They’d taken out one of creatures, but there were more inbound, slithering through the underbrush via a coat of their own slime. The immediate threat to the party as a whole needed to be neutralized before they could tend to the few. Nae could heal, but it wasn’t pleasant for the victim, and drawing out the toxin would be draining. She couldn’t attack and mend flesh at the same time. Her expression was filled with silence when she looked toward Knight Lechner. “Kill the worms.”

‘Let me in. Share our gifts...’, Naedira continued telepathically as she strode ahead, letting her mind brush against his, a gentle knock, so that she could initiate a link. It would be temporary. Just enough to carry a Battle Meld through the next fight. She could use his extra-senses and he could use her skill in the Force. Their group was small. Every little bit helped. “I’ve got the northern section.”

The underbrush moved and Naedira breathed in through her nose. Her eyes widened slightly. This area was crawling with nearly thirteen feet long insectoid monstrosities. They must have been near a nest for them to be this plentiful. The brunette put her sidearm away and instead pulled free her electro-chain whip. It looked like a long rapier-like weapon, until she flicked her wrist, and the metal broke apart to reveal an electro-plasma current.

The slender woman launched herself forward and her whip snapped one of the creatures in the flank. It backed up, but she pressed forward, and the whips snapped around its midsection, holding back its claws. Naedira pulled with her whip and pushed with the Force and essentially ripped the many-toothed worm in half. It wasn’t pretty, or clean, but it was quick.

One down. More to go.

‘…Behind you, Wolf…’, she warned Lechner without looking, before moving on to the next target. The Pathfinder had given them their tasks. This was it.

Upon approach to the camp, Shalita noted as people began to move out that she was perhaps one of or definitely a late arrival to the group, not that she was too worried about it. The female wasn’t too social when it came to confederacy gatherings and she was more than certain that most people didn’t know who she was. A factor that also did not worry the female at all, as it meant that she was doing a very good job of keeping a low to a non-existent profile. It helped to make sure that her existence wasn’t common knowledge, that her Shi’ido genetics were not a commonality. Something which was by design, so then she could slip in and out of circumstances without a worry of being seen or caught.
From what she could tell, the mission was to get to some Flesh stone, but they would have to fight their way through. A hand lifted to lightly graze at the wrist blade that was hidden away under the sleeve of the black leather jacket that she wore over the top of her white top. Although, simplistic in nature the material didn’t have any special qualities about it, except that it kept her warm. No muss and no fuss. It did what it was suppose to, which was to hide the hidden blade and keep her warm. There was no emotional attachment to it, a factor that played a key roll in a lot of her possessions, although for the most part, she travelled light. This was so then if she ever needed to cut and run, she could very well just do exactly that. Cut, run and change her appearance to suit her current needs and although she had many aliases she chose the one that she associated as her ‘normal’ appearance.
Ice blue eyes watched the people begin to move forwards, while raven black locks had been braided to avoid catching any stray locks on anything. The last thing that she wanted, was to have hair yanked out from her skull by some Evarrian or undead being, which would hurt like a son of a blaster. Pale skin was mostly hidden to the trained eye, seeing as the female was almost completely covered up. However, her pale skin was almost an indicator of a being who had no contact with the sun, when in fact that was a deliberate move on her behalf. A simple misdirection would have been to have sun kissed skin, but this was the form that she used when she wasn’t using an alias and in this form, the woman was simply, Shalita Vi’dreya. No one else.
The Shi'ido kept somewhere near to the back of the group, but she made sure to keep a handful of people between her and the back, as any stragglers would more than likely be the first to be attacked should an attack ever be made. At least it was in her opinion. The female heard rather than saw the scream and her hand was to the hilt of her own lightsaber. As she spun upon the heels of her feet, the female pulled free her own lightsaber at the same time and saw [member="Kyle Naktis"] finish the beast off using their lightsabers. Orbs of ice blue watch the man fall to his knees before rolling onto his back next to [member="A'runda"] and she listened to [member="Kurenai Yumi"] making a comment about a healer. A pause for a moment had the woman rolling her eyes, Well, perhaps they should have been paying much more attention to their surroundings, they were after all, basically in enemy territory. Shalita thought to herself as she eyed the three before speaking, “Then we had better hope that we have a healer.” She mumbled mostly to herself as [member="Naedira Darcrath"] began to essentially rip a worm in half.
The woman activated the lightsaber that was held in her right hand as she noted the incoming attack of worms. Why there was so many, she would ponder later as she twisted to jump backwards from the incoming attack of yet another worm. Just as her booted heel touched the ground, she shoved her form forwards and sliced upwards, as she ducked under the right claw. The storm blue blade of plasma sliced through the claw as she darted away from the initial spurt of blood. Upon quick adjustment, the woman shifted as the creature was distracted by the pain of losing a limb and Shalita delivered the final blow by slashing the creature’s throat.

Relationship Status: It's Complicated
The worm attacked seemingly from nowhere as soon as Gerwald had stopped the woman with him from moving forward. His sense of smell had picked up more than just the one which had poisoned two members of the team already. Usually Gerwald was one to charge ahead into a battle, but this was not a fight they were going to win by being foolish. There was no time to comment on her observation about relationships with co-workers. He did not want to tell her they had not been co-workers when it began, and the fact they had been by the time their relationship had come to an end was only because Gerwald had begun to accompany her on missions. They were both Knights, both of them trained to do what was needed.

Gerwald nodded when he was told to kill the worms. The sword strapped to his back came free and the lightsaber that had been hooked to his waist came free. Both were deadly in his hands as the Knight was a skilled warrior exceeding most that Stewjon had ever been able to offer. He knew now it was because of the force, and when he felt the thoughts of the brunette brush against his mind, he dropped the walls that @Scerezade deWinter had taught him to build. That was one of the first things he had learned, and now found himself employing that one skill the most.

"Very well... you may."

His words brushed back against her mind with a welcoming tug to do what she was about to do. Gerwald did not know this was possible, so much of him was curious about this as he was cautious. The link seemed to be quick and without fanfare. The only difference was that he could feel her strength as if it was his. He knew she was going north before she announced it, and he followed to cover her flank. No one should be fighting without a partner in this, not when the worms produced a toxin.

As [member="Naedira Darcrath"] unleashed her whip, Gerwald charged the worm coming from behind him. His first strike was a slash to the claws to remove them with his lightsaber, and cut along what he thought to be the jugular of the thing. It seemed to work, and without any word or discussion on what to do next, he sped to the next worm and repeated the killing maneuver. The rest of the party was killing the worms as well, their path to the tower hindered by the nest which was near them.

"We need to close off the nest," Gerwald said to whoever was listening. "Then we need to help those two..."

Madalena had been walking in the front, her presence stretching out within a radius, keeping an eye out for any dangers that could be lurking. Jagomir was most definitely not a tourist-friendly place and she made an educated guess that the probability of stumbling into creatures that were not part of the briefing they’d all received was all too possible. Yet despite all that, by the time she and anyone else in the group realized a worm was there, someone had already been hurt.

She turned around, stopping herself from running over. Where there was one worm, there were always at least one more, and [member="A'runda"] was already being aided by [member="Kyle Naktis"] and [member="Kurenai Yumi"]. Two of them had been at Madalena's training sessions, she worried less about their ability to work together, giving her a few much needed seconds to scan the area through the Force and know that more were coming.

And yes. More were coming. Executors Darcrath and Lechner were already dealing with some of them, but Madalena knew more were coming from her direction. Her thoughts echoed the words that [member="Gerwald Lechner"] spoke; there was a nest, and they were near it. A new Knight joined them and Madalena instantly knew this was a Shi'ido, though she would have to check her datapad later on to see which of the groups within the Knights Obsidian she belonged to.

As the Executors battled the worms, Madalena took a diagonal line towards them, keeping her distance. Part of her wanted nothing better than to join in and hack worms, but they had a deeper threat to deal with. If there was indeed a nest nearby, it meant these worms would hardly be the last. And worse; it meant there was a Queen Worm nearby as well.

Closing her eyes, the Sithling crouched down to her knee, expanding her perception of the life around them. Swamps always meant too much of it, starting with tiny insects and not ending with worms. There were also the undead to take into consideration, though so far no one had caught a single glimpse of them. She also remembered, harshly, that they were limited in time. There were two Knights that had been hit by the worms an needed to be taken care of before their internal organs started to shut down.

"Found it!" Madalena yelled over the commotion. They were close. Too damned close. The nest was only a few feet away from where she was standing and she could now see the eggs themselves, big and white and shiny in the creepy moonlight that the planet had to offer. But where there were eggs, there was the Queen, and as Madalena took a few more steps towards the eggs, intending on smashing them entirely, the Queen made herself known.

She was bigger than the rest of the worms. And as far as Madalena could tell, angrier.

Madalena ignited her lightsabers, the emerald green light casting a glow that matched the one that came from her eyes. All her knives slid from her body and rose into the air, moving and dancing by her command. She launched forward at the Queen, but there was no intent on her part on making it seem big or glorious. Her hand move forward as she aimed her Ring of Stasis at the Worm Queen, stunning her.

Not much time left. The Ring of Stasis was aimed for people who had a much smaller mass, which meant that Madalena now had a precious few seconds unless she got lucky, and one rarely got lucky in such situations. She wasted not a single breath as she came forward, lightsabers cutting the Queen in half vertically, her knives flying towards the eggs where they stabbed and stabbed until there was a mush that had too many egg shells in it to make a decent scrambled eggs meal.

What few worms would still come at them, Madalena had to trust the others now as she made her way towards [member="A'runda"] and [member="Kyle Naktis"]. Her lightsabers turned off and her knives returning to their place, she crouched by both of them, shaking her head. They'd both been protected enough to not have had to be surprised by the worms. Their wounds were entirely unneeded.

"Here," she said as she produced two emergency syringes from a little metallic pouch that had been strapped to her thigh. Without asking for permission and without wasting even more time, she stabbed them both and injected them. "Thank our darling Archivists when we make it back. This will protect you from the effects of the venom for the next twelve hours but you're going to have to stay in the infirmary for a few days."

And now there was a choice to make. Did she send them back now or they continue this mission together? She was the leader and it was her choice to make, her chance to take. Could she take them to continue on with this mission? It wasn't supposed to take anywhere near twelve hours, but chit happened. The only question was if it was worth the risk. But then again, to send them back would mean to send people back with them as they could obviously not deal with the worms on their own, and it would leave the rest of the group weakened.

"We continue with the mission," she said, making her mind up quickly. It was cold. It was probably ruthless. "We're not far from the tower."

A'Runda had fallen on his side when he'd lost control of his body. Only able to move the eyes behind his lenses he barely saw what was going on after he fell into the muddy water. All he could hear was an ensuing fight with lightsabers and the creatures. Worried that this could very well be the end of him in his defenseless position he worried. Then he heard someone else fall beside him. Was he no longer the only victim, was he gonna get incubated and little aliens were gonna burst form his chest? He hoped that wasen't the case. But he knew nothing of the fauna here, so anything was possible. At least on Tatooine he knew what would happen if a Krayt got him.

However, soon he felt his body move onto dry land, how laying on his back he had a better view of what was going on around him. It turns out there were more of the creatures, who'd seemed to have organized some kind of assault. Knowing there was more worried the Tusken more. Before he knew it though he was accompanied by a familiar face, [member="Kurenai Yumi"]. Blinking some he was thank for for her help, unfortunately though he did see how [member="Kyle Naktis"] saved him as well. So his attention was fixed on the Atrisian women aiding him. He hadn't actually noticed she was a part of the group until now. Furthering the embarrassment he felt already. Which he hoped wasn't something people could pick up on in the Force. All he cold really do though was look at her though his lenses.

Soon after the aid she'd provided him, he was surprised to see [member="Scherezade deWinter"] also pop up next to him. But then a pointless but still real sense of dread filled him. Not for the sake of his safety, but not wanting to be further embarrassed. From the few times Scherezade and him were around one another he got the idea that she wasn't somebody that cared much if people saw her body. Which he feared if she too was gonna be aiding him. "Eeee...eeeeyak urrrr, ur..." Clearly he was having some trouble taking, even in his native tongue. He was trying to say something along the lines of 'please leave my clothes' worried that what ever first aid she had planned meant that his garb was gonna need to get removed some. It was already bad enough with the cut in his clothes.

Then he saw the little needle and felt little uneasy, since he was never really around medical equipment most of his life. Unsure what the needle was for she seemingly just jabbed it into him for what he perceived to be no reason and was very much unprovoked. "Nnnnn..." He exclaimed some in slightly pained surprise.

Kyle heard the commotion around, he then felt someone drag him, then he noticed Madelina next him and inject him with something. Kyle felt better after a moment. Kyle sat up and looked to Madelina and in a very low whisper almost unheard "thank you". Kyle climbed to his feet and wiped his robes and armor off. He held up both arms and extended both wrist blades checking them. Kyle then retracted them. Kyle looked around at all the dead creatures and simply nodded. Kyle then leaned against a log relaxing a bit from what that toxin had done to him. Kyle never said much, but he did always think a lot, now it was the time he was thinking about how he didn't want to fight anymore of things, but the mission had to continue so if he had to, he would.
