Suggestion Unpopular Suggestion

Now, don't get out the pitchforks when you read this, I absolutely will understand if this isn't something people want and I'm not going to fight over it but:

  1. Either make dominions for 1 or 2 planets again, or break up hexes into further hexes (hexception?) so that dominions gain smaller portions of the map than they do now.
  2. Keep invasions for the full hex.
It's not really a thought out process, but it makes dominions a fraction of the size of Invasions both on the map and on paper (see the recent feedback thread about words posted/posts made to a dominion vs invasion) while keeping invasions largely the same in terms of gain.

Potential alternatives:
  1. Make hexes smaller and keep dominions at 1 hex per dominion
  2. Make invasions 3 hexes per win.
So 1 hex on the map now would become 3 hexes, 3 times the effort to capture the same space passively.

Edit: Replaced the 1/2 with 1 or 2 to keep it clear what I mean

I support going back to the one planet dominion, it shouldn't matter if it's pretty or not, what should matter is the story and the balance. I agree with Ellie Mors Ellie Mors here.

I also believe this potentially unpopular opinion: ditch the new Map software. If it makes these sorta of small adjustments to rules or concepts hard to do, it should be looked into about either going back to the old map or finding a new one that supports more options to be made in the future.

As a former staff member who worked on the old map (without having knowledge of the current map's process) the old map was an absolute nightmare. It was a file with over 1,000 layers; a layer for each planet, each planet name, each faction, each faction's influence, background layers, grid layers, and so, so much more. It would take me five real life minutes for the file to simply open every time I made an edit. The old map was also updated only once per month (When things went smoothly, sometimes it went 2-3 before an update.)

I can't possibly imagine the new map software would be anywhere near as painful to use, otherwise it wouldn't have been implemented as a replacement.
