The Union Pattern Mass Shadow Mine is a large stationary mine designed to be placed along hyperlanes or at the edge of systems as an area denial device or to funnel enemy forces into chokepoints. The mine can detect ships travelling in hyperspace and will cause a sudden mass shadow pulse which will pull said ship and any accompanying it into realspace. After this pulse the ship being pulled out will have five seconds until the mine’s nuclear warhead explodes, either damaging or obliterating the ship unless it transmits a valid Zweihander Union IFF code.
