- Description: Disguised as a treatise on Atrisian Traditional Medicine, framed as a story between a medicine man and a chronically ill lord constantly coming to him for treatment, the medicine man is eventually, albeit slowly, revealed to be an Atrisian Shinobi who has secretly been poisoning or harming the Lord for months, slowly weakening him to make it look as if he died of natural causes. The Manual is presented through a standard chapter format. Each Chapter chronicles one visit the Lord pays to the healer, with him getting slowly but subtly worse until by the end he is on the verge of madness
CONTENT INFORMATION
SUMMARY: Disguised as a Treatise on Atrisian Medicine, it is actually a a dense encyclopedia on the use if disease and poison for the purposes of assassination. Texts of this were were for royal eyes only on Atrisia, and having an illegal copy was grounds for an on sight death penalty for whomever said copy was found in possession of.
Part One
*The Great Lord Of Blood Eye Ridge was racked with chronic pain of the spine. Such was his suffering that he sought out only the best of healers, coming upon an aged monk with an impeccable record. The journey was arduous but eventually he reached the old monk who agreed to heal him.
Their first healing session began with Atrisian Acupuncture. The Lord was was of ill temper from weeks of pain...*
This first chapter has The Lord and The Monk discuss the details of his work as a healer, and the areas of the body he called upon the most often to heal, how often the areas suffer injury and the quickest way in which they are injured. The Monk carefully avoids discussing anything personal. The first session ends with the pain completely gone, and he leaves the Monk in good spirits
PART TWO.
007 Months pass, and the Lord's pain returns but at a lessened intensity, except the ribs hurt now also. He makes the long, arduous journey back to the monk who healed him the first time. The Monk now uses a combination of Acupuncture and medicines to treat the Lord, who was greatly distressed at the return of the pain.
The healing session lasts longer, with the Monk and Lord discussing where Acupuncture must end and medicines begin., discussing the ways the two can be combined in multiple ways to heal specific parts of the body quickly or slowly as necessary. It becomes immediately apparent to the Lord that the Monk is much more intelligent than he lets on. But the pain vanishes and the greatful Lord departs.
PART THREE.
After 14 months, the pain returned to the ribs, worse than ever, and the distressed and now disappointed Lord makes the arduous journey again, this time irritable like he has been with his royal court for weeks and weeks now. He demands the monk heals him. The Monk tries a special combination of Food, Acupuncture, and medicine, and this time the session lasts many days, and The Monk explains how certain foods, and medicines affect the body when combined with daily Acupuncture. The pain is eventually healed, but the Monk, for the first time, prescribes a special herbal tea as a preventative measure.
This part discusses, for the first time, the flip side of the Monk's knowledge as The Lord asks if any of the Monk's knowledge could be used to hurt people. The Monk is very hesitant, always giving partial confirmations as to what can be used and how to hurt instead of heal, arousing The Lord's suspicions. But as promised, the pain does vanish.
PART FOUR.
*Both spine, rib, and now joint pain hit the Lord in full force, making him irascible and weak and nearly mad with rage. He storms the Monk's temple with troops and hauls him before, him, and says he hired another healer to look up the mixtures he uses, and found out that when combined in certain ways and times, they build up deadly poison in the body that threatens madness.
The Monk breaks down, laughing, confessing he is a Master Shinobi who has been slowly leading him to his death...*
This final part involves their final conversation as he demands to know the Monk's secrets of gealing and killing. The Shinobi stalls for time, but gives up a great deal, including how even single ingredients, prepared in certain ways, can lead to deleterious effects, and how certain bodily stresses can make one more vulnerable to infection or disease. The Shinobi then springs his final surprise. As he has sworn to kill the Lord at any cost, he reveals he has deliberately contracted a disease (The text begins to betray an advanced understanding of disease theory) and the poison in the Lord, done in carefully applied dosages at different rates and at different times was never meant to kill him, just weaken him enough for the real murder weapon, a blood disease which the whole court has contracted just being in his presence. The Shinobi is beheaded, but the Lord dies in fits of agony days later, utterly insane from pain.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The innocuously titled Underground Lakes and Channels is a book on the use of poisons and disease. Long in the private libraries of various Atrisian emperors and painstakingly copied down from generation to generation, It was once THE treatise on Atrisian Poison application, and well disguised as a book on medicine so that the ignorant cannot grasp the secrets.
Its knowledge is extensive, the dialogues between its two characters actually disguised lectures and guides on poisons and disease, which is actually highly accurate and useful. Its knowledge was deemed extensive enough that even a single copied page could put many in danger, which did occur when a page was stolen and led to a wave of assassinations.
This copy is an illegal one, stolen from the Emperor's palace centuries ago and painstakingly preserved by way of Stasis chamber. Nine gifted this to

hoping to expand her knowledge on the application of medicines and disease, and their anciebt variants painstakingly described in this book. Such knowledge will hopefully inform Karlie's future research.
