- Capable of operating in space, land, or water.
- Operated by autonomous droid brain.
- Designed primarily for non-lethal capture.
- Plunder n' Pillage: This droid's primary purpose is to seize cargo, living or otherwise. As such, it possesses ample internal storage space.
- Man The Cannons: The Equilibrium is designed to operate in space or underwater as well as on land, and can fold into a launchable form for naval use.
- Men Against Ants: The Equilibrium is a towering, nightmarish war machine, and is quick, well-armed, and well-defended.
- Toppled: Should one or more of its legs be destroyed, the Equilibrium will struggle to maintain balance.
- Thunder Child: Most of the Equilibrium's weaponry is designed to fend off or destroy massed infantry, and it can struggle against large amounts of hostile armor.
A horrifying next-generation droid walker, the Equilibrium is a grim look at Helix's plans for the galaxy.
Standing at a little over 50 meters tall, these machines are nonetheless slender, and move with a graceful, easy stride despite their size. When pressed, they can thunder forward at surprising speeds over short distances, an ability they most commonly use when pursuing live prey.
Their seemingly-fragile physiques are in fact deceptively resilient, being well-armored in multiple layers of self-repairing metals, with starship-grade thermal shielding thrown on for good measure.
While it is well-armed with a bevy of nightmarish and exotic weapons, the Equilibrium will generally only use these in self-defense. In almost all cases, it will attempt to capture enemy combatants alive. This it accomplishes with a nest of retractable stun tentacles mounted near its frontal armor, with a maximum of 20 such tentacles active at one time. These can stretch to a maximum length of nearly double the droid's height, and are possessed of frightening physical strength, able to peel open armored doors, knock down walls, or force their way through reinforced barricades.
Yet, these arms also possess surprisingly delicate dexterity, able to operate machinery, open doors, snake through vents, and snag struggling prisoners without harming them. If need be, it can project a stun pulse through these arms to knock out more intransigent captives.
Each tentacle is dotted with photo/audioreceptors, and can split into numerous, fine, cilia-like smaller tentacles for the purposes of accomplishing delicate tasks.
Most often, these machines are seen in the latter stages of a Helix Privateering Co. raid, when resistance has already been broken. In these instances, they can be observed stalking about, seizing exposed captives and tucking them away inside their generous internal cargo holds. These machines are also responsible for collecting non-living plunder as well, and will scoop up credits, weapons, or anything else of value by the metric tons.
Conversely, on particularly rich sites, the exact opposite may occur, and Equilibrium droids may be deployed to break early resistance, terrify local populations, and seize the best loot before it escapes.
In either case, these droids' appearance heralds nothing good. Their great height, terrifying weaponry, and habit of emitting eerie electronic wails all contribute to an ill reputation on frontier worlds. Numerous dark legends and tall tales circulate about their purpose and habits, some of them true. One fact that all agree on is this: when these touch ground on your world, prepare for the worst.
Under normal circumstances, these droids are deployed from orbit via the simple expedient of firing them from a ship's torpedo tubes. In mid-flight, the droids can fold themselves into an armored, protected torpedo configuration, diverting the power of their thermal shielding to front to withstand the incredible heat of atmospheric reentry.
Likewise, these droids are sometimes deployed in naval combat, where they will unfurl shortly before impact with an enemy vessel, latch on, and begin attempting to pierce the hull with their attached meson disruptors. If successful, they then insert their stun tendrils into the breach, and begin questing about inside the vessel for slaves, plunder, weapons, ammunition, credits, or anything of value.
Once filled to capacity, the droid then detaches and flies back to its parent vessel, where it will then usually attempt the whole process again.
These machines are best faced with massed anti-vehicle fire, as their tripodal structure is something of a tactical weakness. A toppled Equilibrium will usually attempt to drag itself away, where its Helsteel construction will allow speedy repair. A smart foe will not allow these horrors time to retreat and begin their grim harvest anew.
