Private Total Eclipse of the Heart

“I had wondered how the cyro process worked. When I came out I was healthy. I think my muscles just sort of froze up from lack of use. I’m not really sure but a few months of physical training and I am back to myself. Or at least I think I am. I actually don’t remember who I used to be.”

“I see. That is understandable and expectable for that to happen to your muscles. As for the memory loss I suppose that is also reasonable the brain is a similar to a muscle after all. Hopefully the datapad can give you some more details,” he said letting her know he was listening even if he didn’t feel comfortable looking at her directly.

“You said the Sith rescued you? They can’t be all bad if they did that.”

“In a way they did. I was an orphan on Coruscant and I was put into a home for gifted children. I used to fix technology for money and I would give it to the home. I was kidnapped by a group of pirates and forced into working for them and slicing tech for them to re-sell. They made the mistake of landing on Dromund Kaas and I reported that I was their slave and was put into the academy instead of being a slave. The Sith Empire had nowhere else to put me and I was three years older than the normal starting age so I wasn’t as…indoctrinated plus I was much more intelligent than those around me. Anyways for the next twelve years I was picked on, beaten, and bullied for my lack of strength. It wasn’t The Sith Empires fault though just my peers.” He explained still facing away from her although he could see her reflection in his helmet.

“What are those?”

“Those are custom droids that I made. I know this is bad to tell you since you are jedi and dislike the dark side. Well…those droids used use be astromechs or other various droids that were to be decommissioned. I extracted their programming and put them into these because I could get away with saving them. The ability I used to do so is a dark side power for re-programming droids and usually against their will. They were going to be killed and erased so I gave them a new lease on life in bodies I built for them. Lately I have not had much time to make new bodies for the others that I have saved. I never had any friends or family so I made friends with various droids and A.I around me,” he explained wondering how she would react to such news.

"Sorry I am talking to much,"

“There’s no such thing as a bad student. Only a bad teacher. Teachers say, students do. The failings of your peers are a reflection of what they are being taught.”

“This goes back to things I will never be good at. Sure they tried to help and teach certain things but my body have twelve years didn’t develop that much physically like the others,” he said lowering his head a bit as he thought about it his eyes no longer looking at the helmet of the armor he had created. The whole armor he wore embellished his features and was more than obvious with his helmet sitting on his desk.

“So.. what kinds of things do you think a master would teach you? If you get a Sith master I mean.”

“Considering masters are powerful dark side users I am sure they will try to teach me emotions and how to use them…how to feel them. Logically they will try to take my worst aspects and improve them and find out what I am good at and use them for their own sake as well as for the sake of The Sith Empire,” he answered truthfully as he looked more towards the floor as he sat there with his back turned trying not to think about his future or how bleak it was likely to be. A Sith master at this point with him would either make him or break him.

“You know setting you free was the right thing to do. That In itself is a reward. You don’t owe your life to someone because they did what was right.”

“Maybe to some but raising an 8 year old isn’t free and children are put through the academy here when they are 5. I had a late start as I mentioned,” he said replying to her. He turned his head slightly as he sat backdown at his bed.

“If you ever do decide you want to learn a different way I can offer you a place with the Jedi. “

“I think there is a way to get my contact information off this thing. Tho I have no idea how to do that. But I’m sure you do so if you ever need a hand you could reach me.”

“I appreciate what you are trying to offer me but from what I know of the Jedi they would have a hard time accepting me as well. I do not fit well into their ideals using the dark side of the force and being emotionally distant towards those around us. I also already got your information from your new datapad. I wanted to check to see if you had left orders on there to hurt me or spy on me,” he said scratching the back of his head as he wondered how much life could have been different if he hadn’t been kidnapped. The school for gifted children was going to give him to the Jedi to be trained as far as he knew. It seemed he was always destined to be someone’s enemy. He could hear her approaching and turned his head back towards the monitor.

“It means that the data wasn’t found on the device. Most people just stop there though. It could be that the device just isn’t being read properly. I have very new equipment, and this is a very old device. I was expecting I would have to connect to it with the force but wanted to wait till it was fully charged…if the power goes off while I am inspecting it. Well…it hurts. So if there is anything you can tell me to stay away from I will try to. No photos you only would send to you boyfriend?” He teased a bit trying to cheer her up although he wasn’t entirely sure if he would even find anything.

“Honestly I don’t know what’s on there. I can’t remember my past at all. You could open it up and we might find out I had fifty boyfriends or maybe I was a paid sex worker. It’s all a blank in my head.”

“Not likely with what I heard about the Jedi. Fifty people interested in being your boyfriend maybe. I also think taking money for sex would be a crime so probably not that one either. It is funny because my whole life I would have rather forgotten. It’s truly amazing how two people from across the galaxy and 800 years apart could have so much in common but be from two different worlds…in societal terms,” he said watching her stretch as she sat back down.

“I know I as a Jedi because I guess there is an old record of me in the archives. I know roughly when I was born but I don’t know where or to who. The medic at the enclave said my body showed no signs of previous pregnancy so I know I don’t have kids out there. Well I guess they would be long dead by now anyway if I did.”

“Well I don’t mind helping you out. Not uh because I uh care or anything but because it’s a unique puzzle to solve,” he said becoming a bit nervous and flustered again as he watched the datapad charge to eighty percent. He had been using the force to actively re-direct currents from the building he was in to charge the device faster. If one were to step outside the buildings lights would be all out. He just hoped he didn’t trip the electrical grid again.

“If you don’t want to know anything now is a good time to tell me,” he said feeling nervous as he stood up and started to remove the pieces of his armor and set them aside neatly. He was barely pushing 5ft 9in and about 145lbs. He appeared to have the muscle definition from years of working out but not the weight. He was wearing a simple skintight white shirt and loose gray pants. He turned around slowly to face his bed but avoiding eye contact with her and a bit red in the face with embarrassment. He sort of raised his arms up half way and let them flop to his sides.

“It’s easier to do if I’m comfortable and lying down,” he explained felling embarrassed and a bit ashamed she could see his face that had boyish and even softer more feminine features to it. He looked a couple years younger than he actually was.

“I know it was a crime in the Republic but the Hutts don’t really mind prostitution. Maybe that’s why I can remember being on Nar Shaddaa.”

“Maybe or you were there for other more important reasons. I can’t imagine someone like you would let themselves be in the sex trade. I could see it being an undercover assignment maybe,” he said thinking out loud as he laid down grabbing the old datapad with the force and bringing it over to him. He felt nervous doing this it was always risky to try and recover data that had supposedly been lost. Last time he had he had a stroke and nobody was around to assist him.

“I never got your name,” he said his blood pumping a bit faster. He had never dove into tech this old either he had replaced a lot of the parts but if he found data there was still a chance it could be protected or even worse there could be corrupted data which could cause him a lot of harm like before.

“There’s some tissue plasminogen activator’s in the far-right drawer in a little bottle. If the power goes out I need you to feed me one. If the datapad power dies, I need one. If I start to have a seizure it wont help but rolling me on my side would help,” he said trying to work up the courage to do this again. The last time he had done so and had a stroke it took a long time for his mind to completely recover.

“Hold on, a stroke? No! Nothing on that datapad is worth your life. I’m calling this off.”

“Look I had no idea this was so physically dangerous. I do not know anything about this stuff. I’m sure there is another way I can figure my past out. The deal is off. I can still pay you for your services. “

“It’s worth it…I am not sure how many good deeds I have left in me besides I am far too curious and you are far too cute when you are angry,” he joke as he breathed in and felt limp against the bed obviously having already taken the liberty. He realized as he entered in the mind of the maze of the old computers network that he still hadn’t gotten her name but if there was anything here he could probably learn it. He also had forgotten to tell her this could take a while. The world fell away from him and all he could feel was the black void of the dark side ever closer to him as he used both Electronic manipulation and Mechu-Deru. Soon he could feel the interworking’s of the machine he could feel that the info was still here.

In the real world he laid on his bed almost appearing comatose as his body grew cold. He extended his hand out summoning the new datapad to floating it in front of her. His hand remaining open as he continued his methodical process of collecting all the data he could find and sending it to the new datapad. Every time he accessed a folder the breathed deeply knowing it could be the last one. An hour had passed and he was on the list file as he opened it he felt a pain in his body as his muscles tensed up. Mentally he could still transfer the data and had to for the seizure to stop that he was now experiencing in the real world. The corruption could have been much worse but it seemed at least fixable.

After sending the last file he stopped his control of the force on the old datapad which would send him back to his body.

His eyes opened slowly and weakly and felt cold. He always hated this feeling the feeling of his energy leaving body to be in something else. Even if that wasn’t exactly true it always felt like it. He looked up at her with a soft smile his hand calmly embracing her cheek with his soft weak hands the dark side all but gone again. He hadn’t looked into her information of respect for her privacy but he instead moved the data to the other datapad that had fallen to the floor.

“I found it all. Its on the new one. Cold, very cold,” he said calmly and still on his side his body still aching from the seizure and he was pretty sure he had bitten his tongue pretty badly too. The room and his poor excuse for bedding were very bad at keeping the cold out but he did his best to bundle up trying to keep himself from shivering a single tear descending from his eye to the pillow. It was always risky to try and recover something this way, when it was new and working was one things but to spend as much time as he had in the broken landscape of the device had clearly hurt his physical body even if he was mentally still there and aware of the world around him.

“I hope it helps. I didn’t look,” he said shivering and waiting for his body to start heating up again but that would be hours from now and some of the effects would continue for days.

“Never mind that now. Are you okay? You shouldn’t have done that. You look terrible.”

“N-never b-better. A—always h—have,” he said smirking a bit as he continued to shiver as you laid the flight jacket over him. He closed his eyes again his body still shivering and jerking slightly to try and generate heat.

“What can I do? Do you want me to get you some hot soup or some caf? I’m really sorry. If I had known this was so dangerous I never would have found you.”

“S-stay w-w-ith me. M-y c-c-hoice. W-worth it…f…for you,” he said with a warm half-hearted smile he felt bad. He was used to taking such risks for people but even if she had experienced such things before she couldn’t remember if she had.

“Maybe we should go to the hospital?”

“N-no will b-b-be f-ine in hours,” her tried to eek out the more he talked it seemed the more he hurt his muscles still trying to warm themselves as he looked up at her half wanting to tell her to read the damn datapad already so the puzzle might come to and end but if she never decided to tell him it would just keep pestering him.

He listened to what information she did share and nodded his head as she talked about it with him or at least some of it. He knew she was holding back and that was to be expected. She had gotten what she had come for and now she would just as quickly leave. He could feel it through the force, he could empathically feel what she was feeling and it was startling as he never quite knew what or how to handle emotions. His eyes watered briefly for a moment then grew hardened. This was an expected risk of what he had done but this was still worse than other times though not as bad as the stroke., He wondered if each time he did this he was getting progressively worse. That wasn’t it, it was something else something to do with how old the technology was or perhaps he was sharing the effects of the device having my cryogenically frozen like she had.

“Thank you for the stroll down memory lane. Maybe next time I should just look at old scrap books though. You really do look awful. Can I get you anything?”

“I f-feel as te-rrible as I look. So…cold. So…sad. You-re both-ered by some-t-thing. I h-help. T-talk,” he said trying to form a cohesive sentence out of sheer will as he looked at her jacket and back to her. His mind was functioning like normal if not a bit tired but his body refused to keep pace with his commands.

“I-know Psyh-ometry and kn-kn -owldge dra-in. Can l-learn m-ore…may-be. Need heat and time,” he said wondering if she would even know what the words meant as he knew was in some twisted way she was the closest thing to a friend he had made that wasn’t a mechanical being and the thought of he leaving so abruptly pained him which was something new altogether, emotion.

“I’m very worried for your health to be honest. I think we should go to the hospital and let a medic take a look at you. Nobody will know I’m a Jedi. I could just be a concerned friend. “

“I’ll b-e fine...fri-end?” he said closing his eyes for a moment and felt a bit of warmth like that of a heater. He opened his eyes and could see the flame in her hands. He chuckled a bit they were both more worried about each other than themselves. There was a good chance this time next week he would be dead, with a master, or assigned to a job that would be going after her order. He was starting to not like the idea of that happening. He blushed a bit never having had someone care for him like this before let alone someone so attractive.

“Will you let me take you to the hospital?”

“The-rs noth-ing the…they can do,”
he said enjoying the warmth of the fire a bit as he looked up at it.

“Fascin-ating. Lie-down? Wi—th me?” he asked not wanting to admit he hated feeling like this and outside of the body warmth he was afraid of being left alone again but he knew this would end. He would get better and she would forget about him almost as quickly as they had met. He wanted to savor what time they had left even though he wished he could assist her more.
