Top 11 Good Things About the Prequels

"Any time there's no talking and he just has to act with his facial expressions, it really works!"

That's right, kids. George Lucas is such a bad director that his lack of presence is the only thing that can redeem Hayden Christensen.

I don't understand all the hate on the prequels. It wasn't Haydens fault in Ep. 2 that they gave him some of the creepiest lines in romance ever. He's not the writer, and it's not his job to write. It's his job to say what they tell him to say. And Ep. 3 is my favourite Star Wars of them all, I think Hayden did great in it.

The guy makes some good points, particularly about Hayden Christensen and the Emperor. Christensen unfortunately gets a lot of undeserved hate which should be redirected to George Lucas himself, and Palpatine was just a fantastic character.

Other points are less solid. Sure, the choreography was better in the prequels, but when you don't care about any of the characters, the excitement is gone. Give me the duel between Luke and Darth Vader in Episode V any day.

Episode 3 is a haunting but beautifully done film. I find it to be the most emotionally provocative of all six movies. Way more emotional than even The Empire Strikes Back. Christiansen's performance as he transitions to insane evil is stellar.

The weavings of the universe in the prequels are also more intricate and the galaxy is suddenly lightyears more immense than it seemed in the original trilogy. While the characters may not be drawn as close to us in the prequels, compare them to any movie released so far this decade. And no, a 2-hour feature film that is made to merely introduce a character before the 'real' film does not qualify. The prequels are not the pinnacle of film. But in my opinion, they are better than at least 90% of what's out there.

I really don't have any severe issues with the prequels. Even if you hate Jar Jar (and I don't, so sue me), he still is a vital character to the series. His goofy naivete is essential to his moment that brings about the decisive blow to the Republic. A savvier character would not have been tricked into that.

I think the biggest issue here is that people don't see the movies as art. Lucas never made you watch the movies or buy the merchandise. You have the free will to say no. Would you hate on van Gogh if his later paintings did not inspire you as much as his initial artwork did? No, you would probably just say, "That's nice," and move on. The reason there is so much in the merchandising of the films is because people have responded so positively and are willing to pay for that nostalgia. We are only talking about the most popular movie series of all time.

You are not forced to buy into the Star Wars franchise. Only you can make yourself invested in the series. If you don't like it, that's totally fine. (I don't appreciate the EU except for the Rogue Squadron stories, so I don't read the EU except for Rogue Squadron stories. It's simple.) But there's no reason to make fun of fans who enjoy the prequels or hate on the man who brought you this entire universe. I don't care how many people had their hands in the creation of Star Wars, NONE of it exists without George Lucas.

Enjoy it or not. If you don't, then as one famous buckethead once said... "Move along."
