Nar Shaddaa
Location: "Abandoned" ChemFlex Labs
Quick Summary
When it comes to centers of questionable behavior and criminality it is common knowledge across the galaxy that Nar Shaddaa is the place to be. From it's reeking backwaters to multilevel high rises, the planet-wide smuggler's moon rivals many as a hub for scum and villainy.

The ChemFlex Labs building on Level 43 was no exception to this rule. A series of disasters had rendered it condemned, some parts of its structure unlivable due to the halflife of the chemicals used long before, some sections dangerous because of stagnant contagion. Now, though, there is reason to believe that an as yet un-named organization is running experiments on a new compound. Whether this compound is lethal, is unclear. It's value, however is unmistakable. Some of Nar Shaddaa's lower-levelers have heard of its potential for resale, some, perhaps for its usefulness in blackmail. Others wish to declare it finders keepers, especially if it can be weaponized. Whatever the reason, it would seem the labs are not so abandoned anymore.

The Chemlabs were not on Viz's agenda for places to rob. The place had been abandoned for ages, and she's not bothered to scrap them due to the volatility of the building in the first place. Not only did she not want radiation poisoning or some sort of plague, she didn't even want to touch a piece of glass or hazmat material. No, this was not her place to be.

But her employer had paid well and thus she was here, perched in an air duct, studying the schematic of the entire building and trying desperately to figure out where in the hell her quarry was. She was wearing a re-breather of some kind to filter out anything noxious or potentially deadly, and had been warned by her employer to not remove it unless she had a death wish, or the very least, a penchant for danger. Even with CAB whistling on the line and her HUD blinking schematics in front of her face, this place was a labyrinth.

She groaned. It was going to be a long night.

It seemed every time Nar Shadda had devolved as far as it could go, the planet always had yet another thing to throw at Cato. Upon learning of a potential bioweapon nightmare tucked away in a derelict chemical lab, his reaction wasn't so much surprise as it was 'that figures'.

Because of course, why wouldn't there be something like that stuffed away in Nar Shaddaa's recesses? If anything it was more of a shock that a problem like this had not already come up for him. Oh well, add it to the checklist.

Cato made the unfortunate decision to turn the city's problems into his problems, and thus here he was, mumbling to himself through the gas mask firmly affixed over his mouth and nose. In hand, a modified datapad flickered and glitched, making his map of the lab all the more difficult to follow, and further invoking the knight's ire. He paused to consider all the life decisions that led him to this point, then resumed his infiltration down the hall.

Objective C: Defend the Compound

In truth, it was just another gig. It was the boring kind of work that Lirka had grown to hate now that she walked the realm of mercenary work once again. But, there was some merit to this Nar Shadda slum: if there was one thing Lirka had grown grossly more invested in during the last decade, it was the sort of science these sorts drummed up in their labs. Now, did she know what they were actually making here? Of course not, there as no point in asking. But she was paid to stand guard, and stand guard she would do.

The goliath rumbled something out as she paced, she moved with a predator's gait across the lab-room floor: it reminded her of better times, before Lirka had been cast down to these depths, but for now those would simply remain phantoms of the past. All she could do now was wait and see if anything interesting happened this time around, too many of these guarding gigs had ended up being mindlessly dull duds of a job.

The labyrinth before her, Viz remained still in the ducts. She scanned through the schematics on her HUD continually, trying to get her bearings but unable to even know where to start.

She thought back to her research and panned once more through her schematic. This duct wound its way through the building to the R&D department, one where she assumed the operational labs were, according to her research. If some sort of BioChemical Weapon or whatever junk was here, it would be there. The problem lie in making sure the ducts were still stable against the damages of time, otherwise she might come crashing through. She hilighted a relatively straightforward passage before her eye caught movement on the HUD.

Two forms were moving completely opposite each other, one on the outset of the R&D lab (separate from the nerd clump of scientists hard at work on their whatever-it-was-she-was-trying-to-steal. And another near the turbolift hall. If she was correct, she was literally halfway between the two. She wasn't alone in trying to grab whatever this was, and the... thing over near R&D was massive. And probably really really armed. This night was getting more complicated.

CAB whistled in her ear.

"Easy for you to say, rust bucket, you aren't anywhere near this hearth of human toxins. If I'm taking my time that's on me, I doubt my employer would even care if I--"

Her headset blipped and she panned over to the comms readout. Speak of the Devil... her employer was on the line now. Good. Maybe whomever was speaking for the Donna today would tell her what in blazes she was dealing with. Whatever this chemical was, she didn't want to play fast and loose with it.

She took a breath, put on her most endearing voice and intonated into her comm. "Humble Hermit, in the field. how can I be of assistance."

She did not expect the actual sultry tones of
Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud herself...

Code Of Silence
Factory Judge
9ga96je.png

"Well, good evening, Humble Hermit." The voice of the Donna was as smooth as spider-silk; "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

On Coruscant, far away, Ivory Stroud was seated at her desk - feet propped up, swirling a glass of murky golden-brown liquid in a small glass. A cigarra, smoke curling toward the ceiling of her office, was pinched lazily between two fingers - brought to her lips now & then for a pull.

Viz winced. She’d not expected the Donna herself to answer. “Good Evening, Donna. “Disturbing me” is subjective at the moment. How can I be of service?”

“Well, I’m aware you’re doing some work for us… in-fact, I have some information which may prove useful to you.” Ivory smiled coyly - invisible through the comms channel - but Viz might have been able to detect a note of amusement. “The item in question, in fact.” She paused long enough to take a sip from her glass of bourbon and shift in her chair, reaching out to tap the holo-screen in front of her.

Useful didn’t begin to cut it. Viz was just plain curious. This thing had Nar Shaddaa in a hustle, and though she may be first on the scene, she wasn’t sure how long that would last. As an Associate of the family, she’d been hired to take this one specifically, she wanted to know why. “Do tell”. She urged.

“Have you ever heard of a substance called Trihexalon?” Ivory asked - assuming that Viz had not. The substance was once a thing of myth - a murderously effective bio-weapon capable of melting anything organic it came into contact with. Most beings in The Galaxy would have never even heard of it, much less been familiar with its properties.

Viz had not. “That sounds deliciously deadly.” Stilza interjected into the mic and Viz hit her own forehead, punching her back down. She needed The Donna alone, without interference. She cleared her throat, continuing on from the interruption. . “I mean, I have definitely never heard about it. Please tell me more.”

“Trihexalon is-...well, was an extremely dangerous substance many, many years ago. The substance in question is not, exactly, Trihexalon vapor… but the chemical makeup is similar.” The Mafiosa Queen took a pull from her cigarra; exhaling twin streams of smoke through her nostrils like some terrible beast newly woken from its slumber. “The compound, known as Trihexaphaline, is a simple analogue - a new recipe of an old bioweapon. It remains in a liquid state until it is exposed to oxygen; is tasteless & odorless, and reacts to anything organic.” She paused for effect, violet eyes narrowing, “Violently.”

“Any vials you find should be of a metallic nature - you are to deliver at least one vial to me, and you will be paid very well. I must warn you, though, Viz… This substance, as you might expect, is under heavy guard. Under no circumstance are you to allow one of these vials to be opened or damaged. Do you understand?”

Viz took a deep breath and held it in her cheeks like a puffed fish. The persona’s chattered excitedly, but all she could say was “that won’t be a problem.” She paused and let the air out, thinking of the massive thing near the R&D. “I… do you have any intel on who is running this operation… er… ma’am?” She cringed. She was so embarrassing. Still, the less she knew the better, but on the other hand, the more she knew the more effective she could be.

“It took some digging, as they’re not directly connected with the site, but we did manage to ascertain who’s likely funding the research program. It is a company based on Coruscant, in fact: Canopy Defense, Incorporated. It’s a small Defense contractor specializing in the manufacture of chemical & biological compounds. It’s likely they’re employing mercenaries as their primary means of Security. Nar Shaddaa, of course, is the perfect place for a black site.”

Ivory paused, swirling the bourbon in her glass as she leaned back in her chair. The Family’s sanctum deep beneath The Star Lounge on Coruscant had no windows, but Ivory glanced out a false window designed to appear as-if she were looking across Coruscant’s skyscrapers. Through the video feed, she watched the hustle & bustle of countless millions coming & going through Coruscant’s atmosphere.

“If you need support, you may contact me - I have an associate present who may be able to gain access to their internal networks, but I’ll require a hard-line connection. I’ve also provided an extraction for you - a speeder, and an armed escort should you require it. Be very careful, Ms. Harridan… Complete this job for me, and there will be many more in the future. Any questions?”

Viz nodded grimly, aware that her future in the family rested in the finely manicured hands of this woman. She couldn’t afford to slip up, especially if she wanted the larceny aspect of her career to develop more than the making-junk-out-of-scrap-for -low-ballers aspect to, which was the main course of her current existence as such. Working for the family not only paid better but would help her out of her backwater existence. She had enough talent, she just had to demonstrate it. “No ma’am, no questions. I’ve got a swoop, but what could possibly go wrong?” Everything. Literally. “I’ll line you if I run into problems, but I’m not going to bother you if I can take it myself. ‘Bout ready to dive in here right quick.”

Ivory smiled to herself, impressed with the woman’s sense of initiative. The small jobs Viz had done for The Family on Nar Shaddaa before were nothing compared to the test she was about to undertake; she was being given a chance to prove her worth or die trying. “Very well, Ms. Harridan. I wish you the best of luck.”

And with that, the line went dead.

Objective C: Good Guy

With a few shifts of wiring and some old fashioned percussive maintenance, the map on Cato’s datapad eventually became clear, reaffirming that he was on the right path. With a silent thanks to the Force, he picked up his pace towards R&D.

Having made it this far without running into any trouble, Cato was perhaps a little too eager to reach his destination, letting his guard stay down as the distance closed. Just as he rounded a corner, the wail of a security klaxon filled his ears. The knight skidded to a halt, and glanced around, still alone for now, but on a much shorter clock. He didn’t even have time to figure out if the alarm was triggered by him or something else, now it was just about reaching the compound as soon as possible.

And of course, preparing himself for any now-alerted opposition along the way.

Unexpected Meetings

Viz continued to crawl in a squat in the small space of the vents watching her progress on the blinking HUD before her. Suddenly, there was a flicker, and the readout died.

"CAB what the Fek." The line was dead though, there was nothing on the other side of the channel. She pressed on her wristlet, initiating a hard reset, but try as she might she couldn't bring the channel up. She cursed again, a little louder. She was sitting blind. She tried to recall the schematic but without it, it was just impossible to navigate these passages.

Suddenly, she heard the whine of an alarm from somewhere, and hissed another expletive into thin air. She wondered who had triggered it and preyed it wasn't her. She continued crab walking forward hastily for another five minutes, lamenting her bad luck, when suddenly, she felt the metal of the vent give. She tried to pull herself onto her toes, but it was too late. The aged vent shaft split where the metal had weekend from years of disrepair and it gave out completely beneath her, sending her crashing nearly 12 feet below. She tucked, attempting to roll into the fall and not land on any bones, pushing slightly with the force in her panic to cushion her or at least try to land as soundlessly as possible. It helped very little, simply softening a blow to her head and elbows, and she landed on her back, the wind leaving her body.

She gasped into her rebreather mask, trying to pull oxygen into her lungs as she struggled to sit up. Heaving, she righted herself, only to be facing the end of a lightsaber blade first.

She scrabbled backwards, trying still to get in painful breaths. In a flash, she had unclipped her own lightsaber and it sputtered to life, the yellow blade fizzing and popping un an unsteady and short burst. She'd not even seen the face of the individual before her, but hastily knocked his blade aside with hers, giving her a split second to gain purchase on her feet and take (what she assumed) was a defensive stance, pulling her blaster out with her non-dominant hand and pointing it levelly, if slightly shakily, at the person before her. The alarm stopped suddenly and in the quiet she stood, awkwardly, with two weapons, hoping one poorly constructed and poorly ventilated one wouldn't explode while also wishing she was left handed.

She set her jaw and waited for the figure to make a move.

Cato nearly slipped as he forced himself into a stop, just short of the body that came tumbling out of the vents above. He instinctively took a defensive posture, one which became less tense as he watched the figure attempt a posture of her own, with weapons that were decidedly shoddier than his own.

“Take it from someone with experience: Vents? Not quite the stealthy entrance holoflicks make them out to be.” He distinctly recalled a couple times he tried to make it work to no avail. Too loud, and frankly not great and holding the weight of a person.

Cato lowered his weapon away from the curious woman, studying her a moment before he spoke again, “I don’t suppose you have a good reason for being here?”

Cato lowered his weapon away from the curious woman, studying her a moment before he spoke again, “I don’t suppose you have a good reason for being here?”

Viz made a face at the cheekiness of his comment. She had to be older than him, if only by a slight margin, even if she was a head shorter. Also she didn't like being pegged, especially after she'd made a grave error.

She couldn't make out his features well with the breathing mask fixed over his face, but the light of their two lightsabers lit up the room. Hers gave a sputter and she shut it off quickly before the inevitable explosion, should the weapon overheat or refuse to vent properly. She clipped the salvaged piece of junk and switched hands, the HF-94 somewhat more stable in her dominant hand.

"mmk, so I resent that." She said flipantly. "I will have you know I am a very accomplished and well sought after larcenist, besides my most recent failings...." She gestured to the collapsed vents.

"You don't have to explain yourself" Stilza interjected.
"Aw he's cute!" Naobi cooed.

"Don't start. Y'all have been nice and quiet up until now, I expect you to stay that way." Viz said aloud to the voices in her head, the ones her opposition could not hear. She continued addressing him. "...and furthermore, my business being here is none of yours. We seem to be at something of a Klootoonian Standoff. How exactly do you want to proceed here, master jedi?"

Cato listened rather patiently, only raising a brow curiously as she seemed to talk to someone who wasn’t present.

“Well, I think I can infer what your reason for being here is, Miss ‘very accomplished and well sought after larcenist’. And I can tell you exactly how we proceed…”

He sheathed his lightsaber, then began to walk past her nonchalantly, I am going to go shut down this operation, and you are going to go back home and rethink your lifestyle. Sound good?”

Something far worse than bioweapons had awoken now.

As the alarms blared into Lirka's ears, she jumped into action. Where previously had been simply pacing bored out of her mind, now the predator's instincts roared to life in full force. Servos cried out as her armored legs thundered through the halls of the facility, heavy metal boots clashing down against the hard floors. Unlocked from her back now, the massive great-machete she used as her weapon of choice flew alongside her, all but light as a feather in her hand.

Now, did she actually know where the intruders were? No. But she had made a particularly...stern...request to the techs to stay on watch. If worst came to worst, Lirka could always book it back and scorch this whole section of the planet to the ground after unleashing the weapon: though as tantalizing as the idea was, she knew it ultimately wasn't practical. Still, she ran, practically like an unhinged beast. Her bloodlust thumping in the back of her skull, throwing her head back she bellowed out a challenge to this invisible invader.

"Run, worms! The butcher walks among you!"

And so, the hunt began.

The guy just... walked past her. She was confused, bemused and a little offended.

"oof. Condescension does not look good on you Master Jedi."
She holstered her own weapon, spun, and matched step with him.
"wait wait wait, cool your thrusters." She tapped her HUD. Still nothing. The large dot near R&D would have moved on by now, especially with the alarms blaring. "It may behoove you to know that there is a MASSIVE something-or-other barreling this way... Now, I don't know you, and you don't know me but you have a lightsaber and I have a ..." She paused and made a face. "... semblance of a lightsaber..." She waved a hand, dismissing herself in that statement. "Doesn't it at least make you curious who or what triggered that alarm? A hasty alliance right now might be the ticket to success for both of us. What do you say, Master Jedi?"

Cato stopped in his tracks, then spun around on his heels to face Viz Harridan Viz Harridan again, "I guess you haven't heard. I'm the sheriff 'round these parts." Other than the actual sheriff, who was far too corrupt to do his job effectively.

"In all honesty, the only thing I'm really concerned about at the moment is disposing of the potentially very dangerous chemical being made here." His annoyance seemed to rise, until the alleged arrival of something worse actually registered. Cato didn't trust her, but he wasn't going to waste any more time debating. "Whatever, you do what you want. I'm going to shut this down, and if you follow along, that's on you." He rounded a corner, then poked back out from behind it to add, "Also, stop calling me Master Jedi, it feels weirdly formal." Then, he took off in the direction of R&D full speed ahead. At this rate, he and Lirka Ka Lirka Ka would be on top of each other in no time.

She gave him a salute which she knew to be tremendously annoying. "Right-o, Master Jedi."

He wasn't going to stop her, which, for the "sheriff of Nar Shaddaa" seemed like a bit of a character fallacy. She knew a lot about those, considering she shared a body with three of them. She would most likely continue to call him Master Jedi because it was hilarious and irritated him. In all reality, she needed a wing-person and this was one. Different objectives be damned, there was a rather large individual they would inevitably run into and one and a half lightsabers was not a force to be reckoned with, so to speak.

"So 'Sheriff', huh? I've been living on this rock for the better half of a decade moving fairly hot items and stealing for contraband, how come I never heard of you?"

The audacity to go right back to calling him Master Jedi actually earned a smirk, rather than further irritation. Being an annoying pain in the ass was a Cato Harth signature, and thus it was almost worthy of respect to meet a competitor. Only time would tell how long that lasts.

"Wellll it's a big city. And I'm not literally the sheriff." Just in case it needed to be said aloud. You never know with some people. "Not to mention I don't exactly go around telling my name to everybody I pick a fight with." Still, in the right circles, rumors of a vigilante had circulated, at least among smaller organizations. He had not yet made a big enough impression on the top dogs.

"So is breaking-and-entering more of a hobby for you, or…?"

She felt like this guy was warming up a bit. That would make things easier in the medium to long run. "Mmm... more like a trade. Honestly, I don't think our objectives are too different. One must really not let this thing get into the wrong hands after all." She shifted gears. "Actually, I'm more of a mechanic. I have a garage and a scrap shop that brings in enough business, hot or cold. I'm sure I don't have to tell you what kind of business Nar Shaddaa brings in... if I was looking for something more benign, I'd move to New Alderaan."

"OH MY GRAX this is boring." Stilza groaned. "Hit him and take his lightsaber or something."
"Flirt with him." Naobi cooed.
"Small talk is distracting you from the job, Viz. Ivory Stroud Ivory Stroud needs this done faster". Moragan chimed in.

"My Personalities are mixed on our impromptu partnership, full disclosure." VIz said. Then... her HUD came back on. She gave a yelp as CAB screeched in her ear and toggled the earpiece volume as the map sprung up in front of her face. "Aw Hell! My HUD's working again." She zoomed in on the area she'd expected to see the beast guarding the compound ( Lirka Ka Lirka Ka ). There was nothing there. "Sith spit, I lost visual on that thing coming toward us..."

Unlike Viz Harridan Viz Harridan when Lirka latched onto her prey, she never lost sight of them. The mechanisms of her suit pushed on, sending the beastly once-Sephi forward like an angry, heavily armored, missile. Cato Harth Cato Harth had guessed right, they were going to be on top of each other very soon: through the alternate views her helmet provided, Lirka could see the heat-sigs of the duo while she rushed along and unfortunately for the Jedi, he was her first target.

Lirka charged as she always did, all fights began with shock and awe from the Sephi: putting the full weight of the armor behind the charge she attempted to shoulder bash, truly living up to being a missile: wasting no time, and with slight flourish, that massive blade followed with an upward slash to catch the man unprepared. With her initial strike made, Lirka stopped herself and assumed combat stance, looking to the duo of misfits in front of her with disgust, albeit, her blank faced helmet hiding her disdain.

"And here I was hoping for something interesting."

She waited now, blade in hand: time to see who'd make the first strike back.

"My Personalities are mixed on our impromptu partnership, full disclosure." Viz said.

"Well, that makes a few of us, then." Cato continued forward, set on finding the compound in spite of any distractions. Just as he began to pull up his datapad, Viz's comment split his attention.

"Sith spit, I lost visual on that thing coming toward us..."

As if on cue, another form burst onto the scene, forcing Cato to react in a split-second. With one hand, he used the Force in an attempt to flick Viz to the side, out of the way of any potential attacks. With the other, he just barely managed to ignite his weapon in time and block the charging blade. Even still, the sheer force behind the attack managed to stumble him backwards.

"And here I was hoping for something interesting."

"Guess we're all a bit disappointed," Cato shrugged, then without hesitation, whipped out his blaster pistol, intent on firing at the intruder until the thing overheated, or she fell dead. "Get outta here!" He called to Viz over the sound of shrieking blaster bolts.

Stilza slammed Viz out of the way just as the Jedi did.
"Get outta here!" He called to Viz over the sound of shrieking blaster bolts.

But Viz was well out of the way, fluttering helplessly above, watching the melee, and Stilza, unable to interfere.

"Fek off with the valiance, pretty boy!" Stilza yelled back at the Sheriff of Nar Shaddaa. She rolled into a crouch and started shooting at the monstrous machine thing in front of her with no hesitation, her blaster bolts clipping against all the right places, but try as she might , they just reflected off of her armor plating. Stilza furrowed her brow. This was going to take all of her combat training, not to mention, a little bit of luck. She shot lower, attempting to find some weakness in the armor.

I don's know how yall feel about using dice for combat, but if you would like to, here is an event table with guidelines. If you do not want to, we shall not roll. All up to you :) I went ahead and made a roll, in case you would like to do dice. If you would not like to play this way, just keep writing.

HIT POINTS: 60 (each, flat rate)

1: At the end of their post, the poster rolls 1D20 (an additional Force Die [1D60] may be rolled for a sensitive user and added to sum, please be sensible)
2. The roll determines if their attack was a success or failure, the next poster may take that roll and write that success or failure into their next post (dodge or block, hit or scratch etc) and so on through the post, according to the chart below.
3. Once every other turn, a player may perform a "recovery" check, and roll a D6 in order to recover that amount of HP. (example: Roll 1D6 as a recovery check, get a 5, increase HP 5 ticks.)

Rolls:
+=10 is a success (dodge, block, duck etc )
-10 is a fail (hit, scratch etc) take the number of damage on the D20... (if you rolled an 18, subtract 18 from your HP.
Players who reach zero are stunned and may be rescued, faint, run away, hide etc. . you do not have to leave the thread, but you must exit combat until a clear winner is determined.

Rolls: D20 = 10 + D6 + 4. Sum 14: Attack is successful. (if you want to do dice) if not, ignore roll.
