Private There Are No Seas On Lothal

"Hmm.. that's probably true. I can't say the same for me though, droids don't bother me one way or another." Aliris shrugged. This was probably the least opinionated she could get. Droids, people, didn't matter so long as they weren't hurting her, hurting others. "Is there a reason you don't like droids, though?"

"They ruined the life I had. It's cheaper to get droids to do fishing, than it is to play living breathing people. I know it's irrational to blame the bucket of bolts...but I can't help it."

She shrugged her shoulders at that. It was a hatred that Reina couldn't quite get over. It wasn't one that she was too fussed with however. It wasn't as if droids were actual people that she had to worry about. She shrugged her shoulders at that, leaning back to look towards the sky with a sigh.

"It's because of them I'm lost. The life I had before was...simple."

Oh so that's what it was. Aliris nodded slowly as she listened. Droids ultimately caused her whole life to change. Her expression thinned for a moment before she looked back to Reina, tilting her head. "It's not their fault, though. The people who chose to make them, use them over your family because cost saving or the like, they're the ones you shouldn't like. It happens sometimes here on Lothal. People loosing their jobs because someone figures out they can get free labor from a droid or automation."

"I know it's not their fault. Droids aren't alive. They're just objects. But it's the same as people who hate blasters, or swords. They cause suffering."

And whilst Reina couldn't directly hate on the people who had sent the droids, since she didn't know who they belonged to, she could still hate the droids themselves. It wasn't like she was hating a living being. Droids were code. Electronics. They were never alive to begin with. Not in her eyes at least. It's also why she could happily destroy them whenever she was practising her lightsaber techniques or combat. It was the same thing as if she was destroying a training droid.

"Some can be just objects, I suppose." There was another pause as Aliris seemed to try and sort out her thoughts on what she was going to say next. It was always easy to dismiss droids as little more than objects. Machines programed for little much else. She drummed her fingers for a moment before letting herself smile.

"You could say a similar thing with animals though. They only run on basic instinct. A fish chases a worm because it's food and that's what they've been programed to do. As you go up the food chain, though, you start to see more complexity. Then you reach sentients. At what point is a program something more? We still feel our instincts to live, eat, breath, after all. When does a simple machine become something actually sentient and aware?"

"They don't."

A rather...blunt and to the point response, but it was Reina's view. Machines could never be sentinent. They could never be aware. They would never be alive. Not in her eyes. Her eyes stared directly ahead of herself at the golden fields, pulling her knees closer up to her chest, a scowl slowly starting to come across Reina's face.

"That's like asking when does a blaster become alive? When does a starship become alive? They don't. People only think droids do because they look humanoid. They look alive. But they aren't. They're tools. The moment you start thinking your tools have feelings, that's when you're thinking far too into it. My fishing rod has no feelings. My harpoon has none."

Reina sighed to herself afterwards at that. Shaking her head as she wasn't entirely sure what else to say, glancing over towards Aliris.

"...I'm sorry. For...getting too...heavy all of a sudden."
