Private There Are No Seas On Lothal

"I'll have to endeavor to not get on your bad side, then. I've spent long enough getting yelled at." Aliris teased softly, a smirk now on her face as she glanced towards Reina. There was truth to what she said, but she didn't want it to be something heavy or serious. She did nearly laugh though as she spoke about her friend. It was an interesting take, slapping someone for calling out for their dad.

"I take it that was more an honor thing, then?"

"No. I thought she was stupid for asking for help for someone who wasn't even there. I didn't...understand how important a parent can be to someone."

Reina raised an eyebrow however at Aliris' comment about being yelled at, giving her a quick glance for a moment before shaking her head and looking back ahead of herself. It wasn't something she should question. She had no right in her eyes ot find out what had went wrong. Instead she just focused on the view once more.

"I just...I didn't have much empathy before I joined the Jedi."

"Neither did I."

Was the sad truth there. It was easy to be upset when things when wrong for her, but there wasn't much she understood about how others felt. It was complicated. She didn't like complicated. Didn't care to at that. There wasn't time or growth to be able to without her own life at risk. The fear of death certainly stunted emotional growth at the least.

"We're learning, though, at least."

"Sometimes I feel like I'm not learning...I enjoy fighting too much. The...thrill of it all. It's fun."

It was something she hated so much. The rush of fighting, it was something she could live for. But she knew that wasn't the right path to take. She had to try and pull that part of herself back in to keep it under control. It was why she had been trying to work on her empathy. If she cared about how people felt, she wouldn't enjoy hurting them. At least that was what she was hoping for...

"If...I'm dumping too much on you...just tell me."

"Is that really a bad thing, though? I mean, enjoying hurting people perhaps isn't, but it's a sport for a reason, right? It's challenging, it's skill based. These days it's a good way to keep yourself and other's safe to know how to fight." She learned how to fight at an incredibly young age for the wrong reasons, in truth. Trained as a child soldier, to fight and kill those of the dark.

Then further as a Sith. She'd seen both sides. It wasn't wrong in her mind to fight, but the reasons had to be better than what she was raised on.

"It's not a lot, at least to me. You're welcome to tell me everything you want to, and more. I'll listen."

"I don't know. Everyone acts like it's some kind of bad thing. That I enjoy doing it. I used to enjoy that it was a me versus them feeling...but not anymore. I just enjoy the adrenaline. The thrill of fighting. My Masters are trying to help me deal with that I suppose. I need to control myself when it comes to a fight because...well, I've killed before. And apparently that's wrong. Even if it's to protect people."

Reina grumbled to herself at that. It made no sense to her. Sure, some people could be saved but in her eyes, that wasn't many people. And criminals who were working for a Hutt to kidnap children? They weren't saveable in her eyes. Yet her eyes darted over towards Aliris when she said she would listen.

"Well...The same goes for you. I'll listen. I might not know what to say, but I'm here if you want to chat."

Killing is wrong, even in defense?

Aliris hummed at that, tilting her head in thought. "I don't think it's that the action itself is wrong. People should always defend themselves and those around them from those who would do them harm. It's more that it should never feel right to kill, even when it's justified. Does that make sense?"

"But it did feel right. They had kidnapped kids. They were going to sell them to the Hutts..."

Reina gripped her leg for a moment. It wasn't a fond memory of hers...but she had to explain the situation. She couldn't just end it with "It felt right". It was just a matter of trying to figure out her words. What she wanted to say. Her gaze losing some of its shine as she seemed to relive the memory.

"...And then some masked "vigilante" came. Went on about how it was wrong. How it was better to take them in alive...and then he caused me to lose my leg..."

Her hand went to the prosthesis for a moment, brushing off some of the dirt and dust from the thing. It wasn't...fun to relive. But she had to remind herself that it wasn't her fault. She had done what she had thought was right.

"I suppose it depends on if they're a threat in the moment or not. I don't think Jedi should say if someone is guilty or not, but at the same time, if someone is going to hurt another, even kill them, we should stop it, y'know?" It was important that Jedi didn't just choose who lived or died, at least to Aliris. Her expression did fall though. It cost Reina her leg?

".. I'm sorry that happened, though."

"It's fine. It's my punishment to bear. I could always get another actual leg back. But...I won't learn from my mistakes if I do that."

Reina wasn't sure how to feel about the situation. She was in the right. At least in her eyes. She had almost saved those kids, if it wasn't for the masked man. If it wasn't for him, she'd have been able to get those children back to their family. Now? She had no clue what had happened to them. She shrugged her shoulders afterwards, resting her chin atop her knees.

"Life...is just one big lesson at the end of the day."

LSKHt0n.png

"You shouldn't make yourself suffer more than you already have." Was what she said, but even Aliris could feel the hypocrisy of the statement. Not that she was going to explain as much. Maybe by saying it out loud she'd stop beating herself up over what had happened, letting herself feel less than because of it all. Letting herself be distant.

Maybe.

".. You're right, though. Life is a lesson. I like that."
