There are few places in the galaxy where the N&Z Umbrella Corporation does NOT have a presence. A subsidiary here. A research contract there. Logistics. Manufacturing. Security. Medical supplies. Infrastructure. Reconstruction. Defense contracts. Government partnerships.
They are always there. And for years, Liin never thought much of it. She used to work for N&Z herself, eventually becoming the head of it's science department. She left for what seemed like an entirely personal reason at the time: social embarrassment, discomfort, and the growing realization that she simply did not fit comfortably within the corporate world.
Now, she is beginning to wonder whether leaving was the best thing she ever did; because the more that she sees of N&Z, the worse the feeling in her gut becomes. The corporation is everywhere, and far too much so. Governments that should have little reason to cooperate suddenly adopt policies that benefit N&Z. Wars erupt, and N&Z somehow manages to profit regardless of which side wins. Reconstruction contracts follow destruction. Weapons and supplies flow to opposing factions through different subsidiaries. Political decisions seem to consistently create opportunities for the same corporation.
And yet, on paper, none of it appears connected. Liin has begun to suspect that it is. Her theory is simple enough to sound absurd: N&Z isn't merely doing business across the galaxy. It is taking control of it. Not through armies or open conquest, but through contracts, influence, dependency, and carefully cultivated relationships with governments. The people in power may genuinely believe that they are making their own decisions.
Liin suspects someone else is making those decisions for them. She doesn't know how deep it goes. She doesn't know who is involved. And she certainly doesn't know whether she is right. But she knows N&Z from the inside. And now she wants to find out what is underneath the umbrella.
So here it is:
Liin is looking for people who have noticed something strange about N&Z. Maybe you've worked for one of its subsidiaries. Maybe you've investigated a government contract that didn't quite add up. Maybe your homeworld was caught in a war where N&Z somehow profited from both sides. Maybe you're a journalist, intelligence operative, slicer, scientist, former employee, mercenary, politician, or simply someone who has seen the same corporation appear too many times in too many places.
You don't have to believe her theory. In fact, she would probably prefer that you didn't. She wants evidence. And if that evidence confirms what she fears, then Liin intends to start taking the umbrella apart; one support system at a time.
This is not about destroying a corporation because it is large. Instead it is about discovering whether something much larger is hiding behind it. And if it is; she wants to know how to dismantle it without bringing half the galaxy down with it.
