COMBAT INFORMATION

  • Availability: Rare

  • Deployment: Limited

  • Strengths & Weaknesses:
    Armed to the teeth:
These folks don’t kark around. They come equipped to their ears with state-of-the-art weaponry and armor, all intended to make them last that much longer on the frontlines. They pack enough firepower to turn weaker units into dust as they stampede onwards to their goal.
    FIRE-D up:
The tradition of the Thousand before entering any engagement – or rather, leading it with a raucous roar – is to get high as balls on a potent cocktail of drugs. FIRE gets them jacked into overdrive, pushing their physical needs on the backburner; D-grade quickens their perception of reality, giving them a leg, hand, and gun up on anyone who isn’t tripping on slow-mo drugs. Needless to say, the combination makes for a truly brutal unit, capable of annihilating much larger forces with the tenacity of an SD crashing through atmosphere.
Crazy: The Thousand are the ‘deploy and forget’ sort of unit. Mostly because you won’t get many of them back – they always manage to die in grotesque and intriguing ways – but also because there’s kark all you can do about it after they’ve downed their drug mix.
Friend or foe? Frak that: When they get going, you just better hope you’ve cleared friendlies out of the general area, or you won’t have many friendlies by the end of it. The Thousand can barely distinguish enemy from ally – and, indeed, have been known to gun down their own teammates in the heat of combat.

  • Description: The Thousand are the offspring of brutal urban warfare. Raised on the streets of Point Nadir, Nar Shaddaa, and other hives of scum and villainy, these men and women are truly the basest of the base. No deed is below them, no crime too heinous to stoop to.

Naturally, this makes them the perfect candidates for a drug-addled, berserker mercenary complement.

Scraped from the bottom of the barrel as often as they are picked from the ranks of the Great Clans, the mercenaries are given rigorous physical training in the thickest mêlées of Point Nadir before they are ever truly formed into units. Many of them thus fall before they ever become deployed as true Thousand. Those that survive, however, emerge all the stronger for it.

Their role is simple and singular – they shatter the entrenched fronts that often evolve in urban warfare, breaking enemy lines and disrupting defensive formations. Because of their sheer determination and downright inhuman ability to persevere through pain that would put down an adult herglic, the mercenaries fulfill their purpose well. It is their egregious, bloody sacrifice that carves a way for the main force to follow, disciplined and methodical as it takes quarter after quarter from the flailing hands of their scattered opposition. The Thousand are not men or women who live to tell tall tales of their exploits thirty years on, bouncing a wide-eyed child on their knee.

    The Thousand die.

But oh, is it ever a glorious death.
