The Sin of Ambition (Part 1)

Though his treatment was exceptional, the young "Heir" known as Jacques Cavill found himself dissatisfied with his current standing within the Fringe Confederation. While it was true that he had cast his lot in with the Skyguard, and found...small shreds of amusement in the duty of enforcing the laws of the nation, deep down he was disgusted. Deep down, in the core of his being, he knew he was born to fulfill a role: to sit upon a throne. Of course, he did not say as much to his fellows, and to those the Heir encountered he was the definition of tact, helpful, and cooperative. Jacques prided himself on being a shining example of what a Skyguard should be...and now he would succumb to the sin of ambition in order to attempt to elevate his position.

As such, long, confident strides bore the Heir into the office of the one known as Sargon Vynea. He was the Governor of Bakura, as Jacques had come to know, and as such he was the man to talk to about rising to a similar status within the nation. Once within the confines of the establishment, the sharply-dressed young man rapped on the door of the politician's personal office, thereby jingling the Bracers which were concealed underneath his dress shirt. This conversation, he hoped, would prove to be an excellent one...that would result in a new Governor.

The Governor of Skye.

@[member="Sargon Vynea"].

Sargon was going over personal paperwork for a moment as he considered his options on the acquisition of shares within the Bakuran Shipyards. There were several possible choices, but in the end he was pretty sure he would just use his rather large savings to buy up enough stocks. The Grand Admiral Karrde had also offered the Fringe's controlling percent as a gift, and it was more then he could ever have afforded in his entire life. All he had to do was sign, and he'd own his own shipyards. It was a moral quandary he was more then happy to have interrupted by the arrival of a young Skyguard.

The Governor of Bakura didn't life in a palace, or even a small estate. He bounced between two extensive military bases to keep himself in the summer sun, and one could even call the Defender his third home. The Zabrak stood his life time of military training evident in his rather solid form, and met his aide in his reception room. His office much like his home was neat, organized, and lacked much of the opulence one might expect to find. With a nod to his aid he put his hand out to the young man, "Greetings again, Skyguard, come in."

Walking behind his desk he signaled to a chair and pulled out a datapad to check for appointments, and much to his pleasure he had the time. "Tell me what can I do for you?"

@[member="Jacques Cavill"]

It was not a surprise to see that the office of the Governor was the definition of immaculate, and this was a simple fact that the Heir took solace in. His expectations of the man had been, thus far, met entirely and Sargon was one of the few beings in the entire Galaxy who could honestly say that he had the respect of Jacques Cavill. Upon being welcomed into the politician's personal space, the Heir confidently strode into the office and lowered himself into the chair that was before the Governor's desk. A warm smile, as was his trademark at this point, characterized his features before he answered the question that was posed to him. "Governor Vynea," he began, steepling his fingers as was a habit of sorts, "I'd like to know what a simple Skyguard such as myself could do in order to be elevated to the position of Governor."

"There is much work that can be done within the Fringe Confederation, and it is no secret that it is my aspiration to utilize my every strength in order to assist the growth and wellbeing of our nation. As such, it is my desire to utilize that which I was born to do, lead, and assist the people of the Fringe Confederation through a goverance role. What must I do in order to be considered for this role?"

@[member="Sargon Vynea"].

Leaning back in his chair Sargon clicked his tongue, and considered the question carefully. The man had the stature of a leader, and he'd had the dedication to the idea to follow through with the thought. "Tell me, Mr. Cavill, what makes you so interested in becoming a Governor? Which world are you interested in, and why? I'll be honest, but I short while ago I was a simple Optio, and people placed their trust in me. In return I've done all I can to return it. Give me one moment before you answer, but think about it. The questions will be repeated once I've brought others into this meeting, and please believe me when I tell you this is a high honor."

Activating a secure comms link he sent a message via the holonet to both @[member="Lucien Cordel"], and @[member="Meret Blackmoon"], and most importantly @[member="Spencer Jacobs"]. ::Greetings, fellow Governors, and Lady Yun-Harla. This is Jacques Cavil, and he wishes to be a governor. Mr. Cavil this is Lord Cordel, Lady Blackmoon, and Lady Yun-Harla one of the Lords of the Fringe Confederacy. Understand that while this ups the ante it also shows my faith in you. Very few people could ever walk in with a simple question and get an audience like this. My series of questions are simple, why do you wish to be a governor? What planet did you wish to govern? Last for the first round is I want you to tell me about the planet you seek to govern, and how you'd better it. I assure you more then likely the others will have questions.::

Should his fellow leaders of the civilian government and the Lady Yun-Harla Lord of the Fringe be available holoemittlers will turn on to show their attendance. Sargon hoped the pressure wouldn't be too much for the young man, but he also hoped he realized the importance of such a meeting.

Lucien had been filling in paperwork, not the most interesting of things but a necessary action none the less. Then the message from Sargon arrived he stood up and moved over to the Lounge/conference area of his office. His emitter projected the images of each member.Lucien looked upon the scene with a hint of confusion it was not often the governors were gathered like this. Lucien leant forward slightly in the chair his elbow pressed into the arm of his chair ... Lussk it would appear was uninvited, but then again he did have an empire to run.His mind finally settled on the matter at hand.Lucien looked over this man and awaited his answers.

A woman’s face flickered on the screen, a mask covering most of her features minus a soft smile that spread across her face. Never being the one that the rest of the Fringe feared, Yun-Harla the woman known as the strategist and the wife of the Great Admiral. The woman nodded hearing the questions presented; she leaned back and folded her arms against her chest as she waited. Another question popped into her head and she leaned forward slightly to get a better look at the requester.

“I have a question to add to the current form. Why you? What puts you above the others that we have considered to govern? What is your entitlement?”

@[member="Sargon Vynea"] @[member="Jacques Cavill"]

Meret clicked in late to Skyguard conference... she did not say anything but was waiting for a reply from the candidate, Cavill. He looked young and pampered nothing like Lord Cordel whose affluence screamed power. Meret's observances were jaded and knew any snap judgement would be truly a sin. Time and time again others had made snap judgements about her character. He was strong but not as strong as Lord Vynea. What was his special gift or talent that brought him here to this opportunity?

The questions which were posed by the Governor of Bakura was a touch difficult to answer, yet he had plenty of time to carefully consider a fitting response whilst the Zabrak started the conference call. One by one, the holographic visages of the various leaders throughout the Fringe Confederation came into view; yet the Heir felt not a shred of nervousness. He was, quite literally, born to lead...and as such, he would prove himself to the Governors of the Fringe Confederation with hi words.

"First and foremost, Governor Vynea, I just want to thank you for affording me this opportunity to speak to the leadership of the Confederation; and to thank you all for giving me a moment of your time."

"To begin, why do I desire to be a Governor. Well, there are quite a number of reasons. First among them is my desire to utilize the gifts that I was born with in order to best serve the Fringe Confederation. I was created from the blood of Ashin Varanin and Jacen Cavill in order to lead; I was trained from the day I drew my first breath in order to lead, and it is my desire to fulfill the purpose of my creation here in the Fringe. Quite simply, this has become my home now, and I want to utilize every fiber of my being in order to better serve its people."

"The world that I am interested in acting as Governor for is Skye. This is due to the fact that there is a present conflict there that I am certain that I can resolve. The Darkness had seen many changes in the world, and the most prevalent started a few centuries back when a single Patriarch refused to give up his title. Civil wars started, but ultimately this stubborn individual started a line of Kings on the world. Well, this line has been broken, for it's most recent King has passed away and there were no heirs to the throne. The world is in turmoil as various factions attempt to seize the throne, and I feel as though, by acting as governor I could prevent the unnecessary shedding of Fringe blood by Fringe hands."

"The world of Skye is one whose history is rooted in strength. The native population are the definition of beauty, and are the inspiration for our own Skyguard. Their history was riddled with slavery and strife due to the late Galactic Empire under Palpatine, but following this and the start of the Gulag Plague, the world, as aforementioned, turned into a monarchy. My plans to better this world revolve around stabalizing the government structure, bridging the gap between the native populations and the Fringe citizens, establishing a Skyguard presence on the world, and bringing modern accommodations to the people. I want to make their daily lives better, in every way!"

He took a breath, then turned his attention to the one known as Yun-Harla.

"And to answer your question ma'am, while I would dare not spew arrogance and state that I am 'better' than any individual, I will say that I am 'better equipped'. As aforementioned, from the day of my 'birth', I was trained and groomed for leadership. Politics and education on how to treat people rightly and fairly were my daily meals. Furthermore, I have a deep-rooted desire to serve the people of the Fringe Confederation. I, sadly, am not the greatest of soldiers, nor am I the greatest among the Skyguard. I...have a realistic grasp of my own strengths and weaknesses. Some serve with blasters, others with the saber, and I serve with my mind."

"So I simply ask this opportunity to utilize that which I have kept as sharp as a blade fresh from the whetstone in order to serve the Fringe Confederation."

Lucien glanced up breaking his focus from the floor "Master Cavill With respect, the people will not shy away from rebellion because you trained to rule." Lucien said nonchalantly the man was naive if he thought books could prepare him to control a population. He was however impressed by the man he had a suspicion that this man could do great things. He expressed such sentiments "However do not take my position to be against you becoming leader, quite the opposite infact" He addressed the larger group "With the leave of my colleagues I am willing to take you on as assistant governor for a short period, during which time I will teach you all I know of the force and provide practical leadership training" He was quite looking forward to procuring a new protege. He turned his gaze back to the boy who sought power "I have one question for you first. You seem all too willing to play our game of power but how will you cope when the world you control rises up and seeks your end.People of our stature are often despised by those under our thumb and In this game of chance there are only two outcomes total and complete victory or death. I ask whether you have the skills to live?"

There was nothing save quiet contemplation which characterized the young Heir in these moments. As the Governor of Zaadja inquired whether or not he had the skills to live, and made the offer to take him under his wing, Jacques had to consider whether or not he was ready. True, he was literally born for this task; yet the Governor's words were indeed true. In the event of an uprising, he would need strength that he currently did not possess in order to survive; and being book smart paled in comparison to actual experience. It was for these reasons that, after the man had concluded speaking, the young Heir replied in the affirmative. "If your fellows comply, I will gladly accept this gracious offer. You are quite correct. The knowledge I possess would pale in comparison to actual experience, and I will happily take any tutelage you have to offer. As for whether or not I have the skills to live...the answer is yes, but these skills, under your tutelage, will be keened to a sharpness unparalleled."

With this, Jacques gave a humble bow of his head out of respect and gratitude.

With a nod Sargon moved his eyes from the holo images to @[member="Jacques Cavill"], and looked over to the assembled authority figures. "Well I suppose its time for a decision then, Lady Yun Harla, what say you to the fate of young Mr. Cavill?" Turning his head to Lucien's image he was already thinking of the next step. "Should the Lady Yun-Harla accept I'll have him sent straight from here to you, @[member="Lucien Cordel"], for training."

Spencer listened as the others gave their notes on the boy. She of course made note of his articulate tongue and his manors, but there was something missing. The woman leaned back into her chair as she remembered her training with Ashin along with Velok, she remembered the time she negotiated a planet to give in to the Sith with just words and no threats. It was a final test in her study of diplomacy; this boy didn’t have that; though he had some potential.

Typical, counting his banthas before they were birthed – Conceited and sure of himself – might as well send a Mando brute to kill him…

The holo image of the woman stood and she wrapped her robes around her. She looked once more at the boy – he was older than her which always something that made her smile. Still a child on some planets, she had helped rule most of the galaxy – her lover and wife a woman who had conquered all, what more could she learn? No she was here to teach now.

“He failed my questions, he is to either report to me or Lucian, learn how to be a proper diplomat and actually sound like he believes in what he says, not to sound like a Republic Senator who learned his speech only moments before he gave it. I do not trust you Mr. Cavill; you must gain my trust before I offer you the people who are under mine and the Fringe protection.”

A soft smile as the image focused on her face, but only revealing the lower half. A hand moved and removed the mask and a soft smile spread across her face towards Sargon.

“Escort Mr. Cavill to whomever he chooses as his desired teacher. Once he’s learned – send him to me on Annaj – there I’ll make the final assessment.”

Her feed cut out and she walked down a hallway, a hand rested against her forehead as she sighed softly. Her head hurt trying to figure out why he had the last name of the Sith Lord she had gotten to know in passing. Briefly for a moment, her fingers touched the lining of her lips as she remembered a kiss – the fleeting last moments of @[member="Jacen Cavill "]before he spiraled down the endless road of the Dark Side.

The words of the one known as Yun-Harla had all but sealed the fate of the young Heir. Due to the fact that the final decision rested in her hands, and the fact that he had failed in her eyes, Jacques found himself with a thirst. She claimed that he did not hold her trust, which was something that he could understand; after all he was all but a stranger...and as such, he found himself with a thirst to prove himself. The young Sorcerer made his decision in that moment, and turned his attention to the Zabrak governor once the transmission had cut out.

"Well, I do believe my decision has been made. Please escort me to wherever I can find Lady Yun-Harla. She is who I elect as my instructor."
