Private The Scout Trip

Earlier: The Atrisian Pathfinder

He had been very quiet since returning from The Core, and his wife, Vera Mina Vera Mina had grown deeply worried at what she felt from him.

Coruscant's loss genuinely hurt. And worse, he had had to listen to the Jedi making speeches of hope instead of plans for action. Retaliation.

Vera had gradually learned about her Husband's history as they dated. About what it was like to live as a Jedi during the plague.

And what she had come to understand was that back then, there had been almost no room for the soft hearted Jedi she witnessed prancing about, speaking of hope and being a light in the darkness. Compared to even the battle hardened Jedi of today, Gulag Jedi were simply built different. Nathan had not been a unique example. The kind of grit it had taken to survive the 400 year darkness would never have tolerated the head in the clouds attitude that had allowed the core to fall. Gulag Era Jedi would have gotten to work immediately. There would have been incursions into imperial territory almost overnight. Constant hit and run attacks. And they would not have bothered waiting for a master's approval or a council to form. They would have simply gotten to work.

Vera woke up in her bed to Nathan cradling his newborn son, Grendel Percival Bloodscrawl in their bedroom in a corner.

"Nathan?" Vera called out.

"Hi honey..." Nathan said quietly to her, watching Grendel sleep in his arms. "Changed his diaper. Your turn, next time..."

"You haven't been sleeping well for days..." Vera noted, rising from the bed in her night clothes.

"I only want to leave him a better world, Vera, to leave my entire family a better world...but I don't know how..." he admitted quietly.

"You are doing all you can..." Vera tried to reassure him.

"I wish I believed that about myself." Nathan said.

"But what more could you have done? You tried everything in your power..." Vera said.

"And it wasn't enough..." Nathan said. "It just flat out wasn't enough. The Alliance's corruption and incompetence is insufferable. How much worse will things go for the Jedi if Valery Noble Valery Noble is still calling all the shots with her Hidden Path?"

"Maybe you should give her a chance. From what you told me...it sounds like you left in a hurry--"

"I've heard her kind of talk before. People like her didn't last long in the plague. Too noble for their own good, like Valery 's last name..." Nathan replied with a sigh. "Eventually, her conscience will get the better of her, and the enemy will use that..."

"You're not going to kill her, are you?" Vera asked.

"Of course not. But I don't think she can cut it. So I'm going to... work things out on my end..."

"Nathan... don't do anything stupid..." Vera warned. "Your daughter once thought she could force her will on the Jedi Order. It led to her insanity."

"There's more than one way to shave a Wookiee..." Nathan replied. "It's simply a matter of proving she's too soft hearted to do what it takes in an insurgency like this."

"She became Sword of The Jedi." Vera pointed out.

"A title which means absolutely nothing now that Coruscant has fallen. That title didn't stop the Core or the Temple from falling. Is she battle tested? Certainly. But that doesn't mean she'll make a decision that could result in millions dead to defeat Solipsis. What's more important to her is the question...victory...or her being a Jedi?"

"What's more important to you?" Vera questioned pointedly.

"Creating a world where my family never has to live under the boot of an utter madman like Solipsis...so...my family..." Nathan answered.

Vera leaned very close.

"Nathan..." she trailed. "...tread very carefully in what you do next...some mistakes... can't be undone...and the Jedi have had quite enough of upstarts thinking they know better...they are not so soft as you think..."

"I know that better than most..." Nathan replied. "And if what you said was true...the core would still be ours."

He glowered. "The Gulag Era Jedi would never have suffered someone like her calling the shots. She'd have been drummed out of their presence..."

"Nathan...you didn't stay long enough to hear her out..."

"I didn't need to. I've heard that kind of talk before..." he said.

"Husband... maybe you should re-evaluate before making a snap judgment. Actually try to help before going full tilt in undermining The Nobles." Vera suggested.

Nathan only shrugged at this.

"Maybe...but for you I will try..." he assured her.

Present...

Wearing: Dooku-Pattern Armor (Blue and Black)

Armed With: Nathan's Jedi Lightsaber

Flying: Heavy Sniping Interceptor

The masked, aura scrambled identity of Morris Crownwraithe had left Valery's movement, never to return, but his public identity of Nathan Bloodscrawl was still uncompromised, and it was he who had flown to Odessen and joined the hidden path. His first task was a not at all easy one: he wanted to scout for an undiscovered hyperspace route to the core.

To that end he had asked for two Jedi to accompany him. He waited outside his ship, clad in dark blue robes with black armor overlay plating, his silvery lightsaber hilt with a thick grip resting on his belt as he waited outside the vessel, arms folded, for the 'lucky' two who would join.
