Private The Sands

public.png

The Ship was going down, A frigate he was supposed to help guard from saboteurs. He was meant to act as security for the ship before the engines and hull was destroyed in many explosions that were set off in many of the compartments

Jessie took refuge in the cargo hold, with 3 others as the ship went down on the sandy surface of Tatooine. The ship was torn apart as it fell, landing in large pieces on the sand. A large crater was created but the cargo hold, witch was nearly undamaged on the inside. The other two pieces that broke away from the entirety of the ship were not to far from the current "Landing" site.

It would not be to long before the dust and sand in the distance would be kicked up, not by the still falling debris of the ship, but by speeders of the remains of the a gang of ruled the local area of the planet. The gangs goal was the large shipment of Draconion Steel that the frigate was carring

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jessie, while unhurt did take a little bit of a beating from the crash of the cargo hold, His guns stayed on there proper holsters.

"Is everyone alright" He asked worried for the well being of everyone in the hold, Picking up a RT-97C from a fallen comrade

"I'm up...! I'm up" Tae'l called from deeper within the cargo hold, followed by the clattering of boxes as she clambered out of a pile like a child playing in leaves on a cool Concordian-autumn day.

A quick glance told her that all of her equipment was mostly intact, save for a busted holo-projector that occasionally sparked, lighting up the dim corners of the hold, revealing to her the bodies of saboteurs and crew alike who had either been mangled by the crash or by the bomb that caused it.

"Shit..."

She gave her pistol one last lookover, stuffing it back into it's holster as she approached her partner "Kaiser", who seemed to have fewer cuts and scrapes than her now blemished armor.

Or perhaps even Tae'l herself, given the way she stumbled on the way over.

"How you holding up? better then the crewmen I found, hopefully"
He took the heavy blaster he found and hit the top to unjam it. Making a audible but short metallic clanging sound, much like a gun being cocked and a round entering the chamber. He took one look at her, and smiled

"I am doing splendid ma'am" He told her in a sarcastic, but joyful mood
"Lets hope that pretty face survived under that helmet" He enjoyed being a bit flirty to the women he met, even if most of the time it went nowhere. She was little different, but of course as the week before this incident passed on it would slowly get braver, Or in her case a bit more blunt.

He tossed the blaster to her, knowing she could catch it "We might need this in a bit, I'm sure them varmints will come for the cargo, and likely not leave us alone"

His holoprojector was also broken, but it was lucky that the ship had many failsafe's, leading to distress beacons being placed in the cargo hold. Meaning help might come, Hopefully soon.

"Hmph." She snorted, knowing damn well that he'd never see that face. While true that she was an apostate, she saw no reason to remove her helm even before her future trip to Mandalore.

Still, He was usually polite, which certainly made his company more enjoyable than most bounty hunters. Even if his remarks were... Foreign to her. She could tolerate them for now and it was nice to travel with another gunslinger, certainly more than she expected.

"We might need this in a bit, I'm sure them varmints will come for the cargo, and likely not leave us alone"

"Damned Nayr..." She cursed in Mando'a, catching the heavy blaster in both hands, checking the gas cartidge and power cells before joining him.

"Guess we hold here. Anything useful in these crates? Survivors too, if you think we've got time"
In truth, she was more interested in their usefulness than their survival. Whoever these people were, The saboteurs display showed that they more dangerous than the average pirate. This was organized, and likely meant they had a lot more men and firepower where that came from. The Crew knew what they signed up for, making them a part of this little war and not some innocent bystanders.

Which meant that a few casualties were... acceptable.

"If we can find anyone, could use 'em to cover the entrances. I think most've been crushed, but I'm sure there's at least one or two holes for enemies to come through" She said, testing the bipod on the blaster and covered positions to fire from.

p1UD36K.png

"I think we are the only two that can fight, The distress beacon should already be on. But can you go check that please, Were going to need help"

Of course it was true that he never saw her face, But a pretty face was something that was normal among the Twi'lek Populace around the galaxy. It was also just something he said as both a tease, and a temptation for her to remove her helmet. Now however would not be the best time to do so, As the dust and sand caused by the incoming fleet of speeders would only get closer and closer

Jessie would take out his three pistols. First the two on his primary holster, to make sure they were all loaded and ready for combat, then the more modern and standard blaster from his back holster. The third looked to be similar to Mandalorian Design

"The creates have Steel, from Draconia...Our boss really does not want it to fall in the wrong hands"

"That much was obvious before the crash" She chuckled in disbelief. No one was healthy enough to fight? Perhaps it was hidden behind the steel and cold remarks, but the odds kept counting down in that 'pretty' head of hers.

"I
need a smoke after this..."

The Mandalorian began searching the hold for the provided beacons, having little luck at first as some appeared to be broken.

"Smashed."

"Also smashed..."

She finally stumbled upon the primary device deeper within, rushing over to fumble the control panel which came to life quickly.

"Main beacon's operable!" She called out with enthusiasm

"Any idea how-"

The pained groaning of a downed crewmember interrupted her, causing a brief pause as she examined his wounds. By the time she could free him from the collapsed beam that trapped him there, his leg was already too mangled for repair. Even if he survived, his leg would likely be amputated.

"
that bad, huh?"

His whispering drew her out of that empty stare.

"
You'll be fine, just hold still" Her reassurance was quick- just as her solution would be- as the man's belt was removed and used to cut off the blood flow just above the knee where the damage began. Even a small sample of her own Bacta spray was spared, as was a tiny vial of unknown substances, which she carefully painted in trace amounts along his leg at the end of her claw.

"Help will be here soon..."

"
Sure" he laughed under his breath, handing her a thermal detonator which he had pocketed sometime before.

"
In case they're late. Don't leave the wife and kids alone for nothing, yeah?"

She looked at the round, shiny detonator in her hand for a moment, taking a deep breath and nodding appreciatively as she turned away, marching back down to Kaiser's location and setting up the heavy gun she'd left there.

"The creates have Steel, from Draconia...Our boss really does not want it to fall in the wrong hands"

"It won't." She said grimly

"It's no beskar but it's got value all the same..."

The properties of Draconian steel were unfamiliar to her, and in fact she highly doubted it could even compare, but- taking one last look at the wounded man over her shoulder- and then to the sun shining through the busted up entry, she knew that she'd fight like hell to protect every crate.

"How long till they're in range?" She asked, fire in her eyes that couldn't be seen behind the mask but heard in her voice as she set the detonator down next to the machinegun.

p1UD36K.png

"How long till they're in range?"
The sand in the air, and not even the silhouette of the riders were now able to be seen. 15 riders making there way to the crashed ship, each armed, and each ready to kill and steal

"I will have to guess less then two minutes, maybe less then one" He was stern and picked up another rifle from the floor that a guard dropped in the crash

"Miss mando, you may fire when ready" He was not sure how exactly to tell her she could fire, other them maybe sounding a bit comedic. He would move a bit out into the sand, taking cover behind some of the durasteel debris, waiting for the riders to come into range of his smaller, and shorter ranged blasters

"Taking their sweet time huh...?" She would grunt sarcastically, lowering herself to take aim at the rapidly approaching threat. While she would have preferred to use her favorite pistol, the ranged advantage of the scavenged rifle made it the superior choice for the time being. And thankfully, the old RT-97C came with Imperial-era thermal optics, meaning that she could make out targets within the dust cloud despite being unable to link her visor to the weapon on such short notice.

Though, Kaiser's advance caught her attention from the corner of her eye, if only for a moment.

"Miss mando, you may fire when ready"

"Eheh! Noted. Awfully brave of ya, getting that close without armor...!" She called out, half wondering if the Aruetii was actually brave- or just crazy. Not that she had issue with either option.

"
Come on-

come on..."

Finally the approaching riders came just within range- a torrent of red laser fire greeting the first back from within the hold, lighting up the whole doorway as she squeezed the trigger and clamped down with her Crushgaunt to keep recoil to a minimum.

At least one rider fell into the dust behind-

"Got one!"

-while others narrowly avoided the scorch marks left by stray rounds, the spread at this range being too much. Tae'l knew that she needed to tone it down by firing short, controlled bursts if she wanted to keep the advantage. Thankfully, each second brought them closer to the next shot.

"Two- Real close now, get ready if you wanna catch up!"

p1UD36K.png

"Eheh! Noted. Awfully brave of ya, getting that close without armor...!"
"Who needs armor if your not going to get hit" Other the aesthetics there was no effective armor on his body, as he found it to be limiting. He liked feeling free in all aspects he could

Taking cover behind some metal debris with a scavenged E-11, waiting for his time. He pulled up his black and crimson bandana over his lips and would wait. Listing to the speeders come closer and closer, the whriing and its sounds where fairly ovious, But the sand that was being kicked up would make it harder to shoot.

He waited
And waited
And waiting

UNTIL The time was right. Popping out from his cover, and firing a rapid two shots from the E-11, Taking down 2 other of the riders with shots directed onto the center mass.

The riders were close enough to fire back, so Jessie Dipped back unto cover letting any of the bolts hit the debris he was covering behind

She continued to fire in short bursts of three or four rounds as the pirates approached, having some trouble with those at the edge of her rangefinder's calculations. In truth, it had been quite awhile since she engaged from such distance, and though the RT-97C was a formidable ranged weapon, it was no Marksman rifle.

Kaiser's well timed shots seemed to catch him up on the proverbial "scoreboard", which she never doubted he would. More importantly, she was hoping to use his position to gauge when the bikers had entered the optimal range, which went according to plan.

Now in range, she began to spray down anyone who dared fire in the Aruetii Gunslinger's direction, drawing the enemy's fire which pocked the crates with a stray round or two. One even bounced off her pauldron in a shower of sparks.

The riders would travel in a circle to kick up the sand to provide them cover as they opened fire on the two. Jessie was under the least amount of laser fire, which would provide him the opportunity, To leave his cover and open fire into the sandy cover.

Jessie Grew up on Tatooine so he was able to keep his keen eye on most of the speeders from the lifted sand, Better than most others could use with a naked eye. He fired the E-11 into the group, But he would not hit much with it. Most of the riders would get off their speeders, but 2-3 would stay on to keep up the sand cover. These bandits were very organized, and it seemed that this tactic would be useful for ambushes. Something this gang was both fond of and experienced.

The E-11 Blasts would either hit nothing or damage the still speeders. He tossed the blaster rifle to the side, into the sand, and would quickdraw his pistols, Faster than the blink of an eye, two loud shots would sound, and two of the bandits on the edge of the sand would go down. After these two shots, he would have very little time to get back into cover, Rolling into a smaller piece of metal that would be closer to the ship for the mando to cover him

Tae'l did her best to keep him covered, really ramping up the firepower Kaiser made his retreat. Honestly she was a little impressed with the shots he pulled off along the way, unsure how he saw them through the dust without optics. Unless he was a cyborg perhaps?

Her own optics made short work of a rider whose thermal signature could be seen rushing to the aid of his fallen comrades, meeting only another burst of laser-fire that turned stray particles of dust to glass and evaporated blood as he joined fellow bandits in the dust. As would another as she began spraying down the dismounted brigands who began firing in turn.

One of them came to an abrupt stop by the wreckage that Kaiser had previously been positioned, taking aim with some kind of pronged rifle, escaping the Mandalorian's attention as he peeked through a small hole, masking his thermal signature behind the metal and dusty cloud.

SNAP

A pale ray of light struck her helm, sending the Mandalorian straight to her back with a loud clatter and a shower of sparks...

p1UD36K.png

With about an equal amount of kills for both parties, Jessie Now freely useing his pistols to an almost perfect accuracy as the first wave would fall to the lazer fire of both. He would not hear the loud "SNAP" As it was fired into his partner. He would easily take the last few on, however taking a quick bolt into his left shoulder, due to getting a bit carless and cocky.

The first wave of Bandits were either dead or retreating, due to the firepower, of the two mercenaries. He quickly holstered the pistol in his left hand, flipping it so it would fit in its proper place, However he would flair with the one in his right, Experly snipping in on his finger for a bit before smoothly, placing it in its proper holster

He mad his way up back to the metal flooring on the ship, seeing his partner on the ground, a bit of fear struck him. He made his way first to her to check on her condition "You better not be dead mando" A slight quiver in his voice

Though the beskar itself was fine, a black mark had been left on the previously chrome cheek. It might scrub out, but could the same be said for the mandalorian wearing it? Blood slowly trickled out, occasionally leaving a drop to collect just under the chin and drip onto her breastplate, not unlike the red tear emblem painted onto the visor.

"You better not be dead mando"

Her finger twitched at the sound of Kaiser's voice, followed by the slight crackle of a her annunciator coming to life.

"
D-" It was weak at first, cut off my deep breaths that were only just now audible.

"Disruptor...! agh- far wreckage" she jabbed her hand toward the jagged sheets of steel where he had previously ambushed the riders. And just as she pointed, Another shot rung out, colliding in against their cover in another shower of sparks as she quickly withdrew her hand.

"I'm fine but,
Don't... don't get hit... was better advice than I gave you credit for"

The Twi'lek chuckled through the pain, sitting herself up against the crates and trying to come up with a plan.

"Hey... you a good throw?"
She turned to face the thermal detonator sitting next to her, then to Kaiser as her Personal deflector shield began to spread from her wrist. It would be a risky move, The disruptor rifle being powerful enough to use up her entire shield in one shot- plus one of them would have to throw the grenade far enough to either destroy the sharpshooter's cover or land behind it- but it was the best option she could think of without risking blowing herself up with a missile indoors.

p1UD36K.png

"Hey... you a good throw?"
"No but I'm a great shot" He looked to her and would see the blood slowly leave her mask, making a note of it, so he would not forget. He knew that even small wounds could be deadly. If this was indeed a small, it could hopefully wait. He took out his blaster that was on his right side and removed all the slugs but one from one of the chambers "Bad time to show off, But this will be fun to do so" He smiled and gave her a small wink. Before getting up and moving to a location close by. Something that would draw fire away from her and onto him.

From this new postion he would be able to see the end of the blaster barrel that would be firing at them

SNAP......SNAP

Two more shots came out from the same rifle, one almost hitting Jessie.

"TOSS IT"

Her head would tilt questioningly at the gunslinger, keeping an eye on him while preparing herself to make a move for that detonator.

"Bad time to show off, But this will be fun to do so"

I swear to Kad Ha'rangir- if he tries to shoot the grenade...! She thought.

The Twi'lek got into position, bracing herself and the shield against the crate so that she could grab it and throw before the sniper could properly react- or disintegrate Kaiser- and hopefully give herself enough time to prepare a strong throw.

The fiery glow of two shots diverted her attention just long enough to glance at her partner in concern, but not long enough to distract her from the goal when he called out-

"TOSS IT"

And then she sprung to her feet, shield covering her head and exposed torso as she snatched the detonator- angling herself to keep from catching a round but still prepare an overhead toss that saw the grenade sail far overhead and race towards the sniper's position- calling out the very second it left her fingers.

"GRENADE OUT!"

She prayed that her partner wouldn't be hit. Whatever he had planned, it was Kaiser's time to shine again.

p1UD36K.png

He watched as his mandalorian partner tossed the thermal detonator in the air, towards the metal being of debris. Time seemed to slow for Jessie as he took a deep breath. His thumb clicking the hammer of his blaster. This would switch it into a slug shot.

Leaving his cover Jessie would draw his blaster and quickly fire two shows faster then the blink of the naked eye. a loud 'BANG' would reverberate through the metal surroundings before an almost immediate Blast from the green lasers he has been firing. Quickly followed by a laser blast. In the air, the green Laser would outpace, the ballistic bullet fired, and would hit the thermal detonator, first causing it to explode. Due to it being close to the debris it would likely melt the metal, had it not been touching it.

The fiery blast would however heat up the metal just enough for the first shot to do its work. Pushing thought the hot metal the slug would make a hole in the debris, hopefully making its way into the sniper that lay behind.

Jessie Was completely confident with his ability, that he stayed in the open, keeping his spare hand closer to his pistol's hammer, waiting to fire another shot, if one was needed. His eyes were focused on the debris waiting...

Tae'l watched with bated breath the gunslinger made his gambit. Selective cloning and years of gunfighting had developed a keen eyesight that tracked movement just well enough to keep up with the sudden display. Her prediction had come true, though not in the way she had expected:

She saw a flash as green plasma tore through the air and into the detonator, followed by another brighter flash heralding the volatile explosive. The thermal energy shook the ground violently, sending waves of heat outward that would distort the air around it, to say nothing of the energy itself which nearly ripped the sniper's cover out of the sand and melted through layers of metal until only a thin layer and a fiery glow remained, all in the span of a single shot.

And then, just as quickly as it had begun- it stopped. A single, loud crack echoed throughout the interior, and just like that: A hole had been shot through the wall.

"Holy shit..."

Tae'l stared at the molten slag in wonder and suspense, waiting for the tell-tale chittering of her scanner to produce results.

It came back null. Nothing had survived.
Her shield vanished and her shoulders loosened as the scan ceased, giving her a moment to approach Kaiser.

"Seems I underestimated you, Jessie" She stifled a chuckle, though her words seemed genuine. Thankful, even. She even pat him on the shoulder for once, bowing her head slightly. He taught her something new that day, something she had never seen before. And more importantly, they both survived to tell the tale.

"I won't make that mistake twice"

p1UD36K.png

Jessie span his blaster on his finger, before placing the blaster in its proper black holster on his right side. His right hand fell to his belt as he breathed out from his mouth. He knew from the moment he fired, and nothing fired back that he had got his target and did not need his partner to tell him he won the duel
"Seems I underestimated you, Jessie"
"I won't make that mistake twice"
"You don't know the half of it, When tuskans invade your home ever second week, you learn to shoot or die" He looked back to her and felt a bit of worry for her when he saw that the amount of blood just a bit more then a moment ago. Moving his finger to her breastplate, to confirm his suspicions that it was indeed wet unclotted blood

"Take off you helmet" He said to her, almost as a command "Can't have a pretty face if your bleeding this much from it" Now that the battle seemed to be over he seemed to move back to his calm and perhaps his more standard mannerisms

"No." She replied curtly, eyeing her blood on his fingers for but a moment before turning away suddenly.

All she could do was stare at the now motionless desert, and the dull blue sky beyond. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate his concern, in fact she appreciated it more than she let on, but more so it felt... wrong. Even as an apostate, just standing out here rather than hauling herself to Mandalore in search of the sacred waters- in search of redemption- felt like a betrayal to her people even still.

Then again, who were her people now anyway? She'd left so much behind and done so much worse since fleeing Kestri. No matter which option she chose, none of them seemed to be the right thing to do. Such a simple thing had become so complicated, and trying to decide hurt.

Or maybe that was just the pain from her adrenaline wearing off...

"I... I'll figure something out, just let me-"

She stopped to grab at back of her head, rubbing her Lekku as a deep stinging sensation brought the reality of her condition to mind.

"
Nghh...!"
