Charles | Hangar Meeting Room | Stryker II:
"Rasha then," Charles said, gesturing toward the conference room. "Charles. Let’s walk and talk."

They walked past the formation towards the conference room.

“I am actually not from Mahporeem although I serve their Imperial Remnant now. My homeworld was Corulag. I served the New Imperial Order until my ship got lost and we were fortunate enough to be saved by them.”

He met her gaze. There was no reason to hide anything.

“The 34 you saw coming in are from my squadron. The rest are from Mahporeem. They are helping ferry troops and supplies to establish a permanent base here.”

They reached the meeting room. A marine opened the door to let them inside. They sat around the table before he continued.

“As for what I hunt? Just about anything I am ordered to I suppose.”

He paused a moment. It was time for the big question.

“What are you looking for Rasha? Specifically. Vengeance? Honor? A New Home?”

He wasn’t the best at social cues but he could tell from her voice earlier that she was feeling solemn about something.

He waited for her reply.

First Scouting Squadron | Ruisto:
An orbital bombardment was off the table. The enemy was too close to the troops on the ground for that to be a viable option. Instead the two mini taskforces launched their TIE Defender Squadrons (for a total of 2 squadrons) to provide close air support.

The burst through the clouds strafing the horde of enemies with practiced precision. The battle for the base site was in full swing and Mahporeem would not be the one who would lose.

I arrived at the mountain basin where the thunder of blaster fire rolled between the stone walls like the throbbing hearts of some copulating monstrous couple.

Imperial forces were already locked in battle with a ragged but disturbingly organized militia of frenzied Mon Calamari, their eyes wild with fanatic devotion, while packs of trained anoobas surged through the mist in coordinated waves of snapping jaws and matted fur.

For a brief moment I stood amidst the chaos and allowed my gaze to drift across the battlefield, dissecting every movement with the cold precision of a surgeon's blade. The left flank strained beneath the assault, its defenders threatened by sheer ferocity and numbers, yet the stormtroopers held their line with admirable discipline, white-armored phantoms standing firm against the madness crashing upon them.

Their formations bent but did not break.

They were professionals, and that bought me the few precious seconds I required.

With a thought and a gesture, I hurled myself into the fray. My lightsaber ignited with a malignant hiss, and a blade of dark mahogany energy erupted into existence, casting it's dark reflections across armor and sheer stone alike.

I descended upon the enemy like a specter birthed from some forgotten nightmare.

One Mon Calamari lost his head before he could even raise his weapon; another was opened from shoulder to hip in a shower of steaming gore; a third fell screaming as my blade pierced straight through his chest. An anooba leapt for my throat only to be met by a savage upward slash that nearly cleaved the beast in two.

Through the Force I seized another charging anooba and flung it sideways with impossible violence. The beast became a living projectile, crashing into a Mon Calamari and pinning him against the mountainside wall. The impact was monstrous.

Bone shattered, flesh burst, and the unfortunate amphibious creature was crushed between stone and beast in a wet explosion of ruin. Before the anooba could recover, a nearby stormtrooper calmly leveled his rifle and ended it with a burst of blaster fire.

I watched the smoking carcass collapse atop its victim and allowed myself a dry, humorless laugh.
“And here I thought this was going to be an easy project."

Turning toward the nearby stormtroopers, my mind thinking in terms of genetics and future experiments, I quickly added,
"A bonus to any trooper that captures me a living anooba.”

Binn stood on her new flagships bridge the Typhoon, the ship was a melding of Quarren design and internal layout, with Mon Cala know how on armor and shielding. It was made to look like an armed cargo vessel but hide its weapons under its hull gunwales.

The eight vessels dropped into the system to check out leads from old Mon Cala tails, and information from Mon Cala imperial dissidents. Especially of a shipyard, Toskros Shipwrights could use more secretive space to build up its forces for the coming battles with Imperial remnants. While they were at the station with quite a few B2-SH4V6's and B1-3AR2 Offloaded with a few engineering teams from the Typhoon and a few others in her small fleet onto the station.

After a time being there the Quarren comms officer comes over "Ma'am, take a look." handing over a data pad.
Streaming down the screen is a live flow of imperial ship IFF's

Binn's facial tentacles curl with annoyance "Very unfortunate. Send a message across our Veil network 2.0. Hold position especially the docked ships. Continue operations until engagement. "

To the outside observers their IFF's transmit Dac Quarren Merchant vessel codes. But unlike the merchant version, these are armed and armored to punch above their weight.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
RUISTO, NEUTRAL SPACE
OBJECTIVE II: EXPLORE THE PLANET

Ronhar took a moment to catch his breath as a sudden lull in fighting loomed over the battlefield.

After what had seen like an eternity, Ronhar and his men had managed to fight their way into one of Ruisto's sprawling cave system, having fought off hordes of crazed Mon Calamari and their bestial companions to get to their current position. It didn't really make any amount of sense what was going on here. After all, by all accounts, the Mon Calamari had been wiped off the planet centuries ago, confirmed by archaic Imperial records from the past. Yet here they were, out in force, attempting to prevent Imperial forces from advancing any further into the planet, despite their seemingly haphazard formations and apparent disregard for their own safety.

None of the explanations that Ronhar could come up with were good ones.

It HAD to be Sith. What else would cause the Mon Calamari to be acting this way? That was the only thing that made sense to Ronhar, and was just about the only thing that could take control of such large numbers of sentients. Ronhar had seen the effects of Force Powers like Battle Meditation firsthand, and the damage that such powers could do if left unchecked. That must have been what was going on here, the Sith using some sort of ability to control the Mon Calamari against the Imperial forces.

Which meant that Ronhar had to put a stop to things as soon as he possibly could!

Directing his men to begin placing some HNDA-Mk III/Ts around the cave system, Ronhar took stock of his situation. Despite the heavy fighting, he had managed to reach the cave in relatively good order, though he had taken some losses in the process. Still, the cave was now firmly under his control, and it was large enough to allow some small vehicles to pass through, such as the Imperial MAVw-SubTer Rover that was accompanying his forces. As much as Ronhar disliked the idea of delving ever deeper into the cave system before him, he didn't really have a choice. If he wanted to figure out just what was going on here, he was going to have to take matters into his own hands and discover the threat on his own, regardless of the obvious danger to himself and his men.

With a sigh, Ronhar and his squad loaded up into the Imperial MAVw-SubTer Rover, leaving a token force behind to guard the entrance of the cave until reinforcements arrived to relieve them. The Rover rumbled to life and slowly began to make its way into the cave, ready to deal with whatever it might find deep beneath the surface of Ruisto...

Holt | The Bridge | Stryker II:
“Picking up eight merchant vessel IFFs from around Station 4. No vector, they are holding position.” reported Castor.

“The buoys got visuals too.” added Malren. “They appear to be some kind of armed merchant vessel of mixed Mon Calamari and Quarren origin.”

He thought about it for a moment. This planet had been abandoned for centuries. Why would a merchant vessel visit this place. It was a decently nice planet, but if there was nobody to trade with, why bother?

He thought about the life forms the ground forces were fighting on the ground. The reports had been clear. The survivors, or former colonists, were crazed savages possibly controlled by dark magic or the force. Not ideal trading prospects.

Surface scans had not been able to pick them up until they were on the surface meaning their settlements were deep underground. It would have been impossible to know anyone was here. This meant only two things. They were lost or they were here for something else entirely.

“Hail the formation and inform Charles.” he ordered, preparing for the worst. Another faction sniffing around was not what they needed right now. The Squadron was more than capable of defeating the present unknown forces in orbit, but if these armed merchant vessels were covert scouts for an enemy fleet, things would get difficult fast.

Ferrin opened the channel and handed him the comlink.

“Unidentified formation, this is Commander Holt, Executive Officer of the MIN Stryker II, First Scouting Squadron, Mahporeem Imperial Remnant. You are operating in a system under active Imperial operations. Please identify yourselves and state your purpose.”

It was a concise and respectful message, something he had picked up from Charles. If the ships were neutral, they would respond. If not then more drastic measures would be taken. He hoped it didn’t get to that.

Rampart Platoon, MSOC "Valkyrie"
Location:
Mountain Basin, Construction Staging Zone - Planet Ruisto
Commander: First Lieutenant Orrin Darge (Rampart 1)
Tags: Captain Charles Captain Charles Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane R'ayne Asara R'ayne Asara QS-022 QS-022

The thrusters of a Lambda B-TIE gunship screamed against the mountain gale as its belly winch lines hoisted the floating Stasis-Lite gurneys through the thick, plasma-scorched mist.

Rampart Platoon had only just been able to fight through the bulk of the initial wave to pull back into a unified defensive posture. Five more of Archer Squad's assaulters had been dragged into the rock crevices, suffering severe bite wounds and shrapnel trauma and were currently being patched up by the combat medics. For the unconscious trooper pinned during the opening ambush, Siren Squad's stim-shots had not been enough. CR-7742 was Rampart's first KIA, his armor and upper torso both split open by Anooba tusks. The remaining six casualties were stabilized and loaded into the medical bay as Sgt Major Horvath gave the ship's crew chief the hand signal indicating that the load was complete.

As Orrin watched the medevac bird take off, he stopped briefly to contemplate what had just gone down, realizing that the platoon may have been entirely overrun if not for the startlingly deadly, horrifyingly effective intervention of the Mother of Monsters. Orrin had watched through his helmet's display as Lady R'ayne Asara met the manic assault head-on. Unleashing the Draconic Scourge, she cut through the crazed Mon Calamari infantry and their beasts like a scythe through wheat. The Dark Side flowed around her armor like cold incense, snapping the spines of Anoobas with invisible telekinetic force and buying Rampart Platoon just enough time they needed to keep in the fight without being flanked.

Snapping back to reality, Orrin reminded himself that the swarm was far from broken, and the madness spreading through the basin was still fully active. Though the main horde had been fractured under the onslaught, many of the crazed colonists had retreated and scattered into the ash-gray gloom, undoubtedly regrouping into unpredictable, erratic skirmish pockets that would continue to harry Rampart's advance.

"Rampart, weapons up and get moving! We are resuming the recon patrol!" Orrin commanded undeterred, as he racked the bolt of his G-12. "Execute bounding overwatch. Squad leaders, push your lines towards ORP Cresh. Stay frosty gentlemen, we're not out of it yet!".

The platoon transitioned seamlessly into high-threat movement tactics, keeping the sector contested for anyone else pushing into the valley. The remaining troops of Archer Squad sprinted forward under the heavy, cyclic protection of Hammer's heavy repeaters, taking cover behind bleached boulders just as sporadic, random slugthrower fire and feral barks snapped out of the mist. The moment the assaulters secured the forward perimeter, they dropped to the deck and began laying down short precision bursts of controlled return fire with their rifles, allowing the heavies and supporting squad crews to leapfrog forward, nav point to nav point, to their next structural shelf. They were grinding their way through continuous, unpredictable contact, keeping the field wide open for the rest of the vanguard.

As the unit moved tactically across the battle zone, Orrin once again activated his long-range commlink, isolating the frequency to update his commanders in orbit. "Stryker II Command, this is Rampart 1. Contact is still heavy and ongoing across the sector. Medevac transport is airborne with six wounded and we have logged one KIA. After Action Report to follow. Recon patrol has resumed and we are maintaining the momentum. Currently bounding north toward the cave complexes to reinforce Captain Tane's mechanized rovers. Rampart out."

Switching immediately to the local tactical loop, he looked toward the perimeter. "QS-022, Rampart 1. We are Oscar-Mike to ORP Cresh. Updated waypoints have been sent to your datascreeen. As possible, redeploy your speeder bike forward of our location and advise on enemy concentration. We are heading straight into the teeth of those northern cave paths. I need your eyes on my left flank to keep those nutters from boxing us in again. How copy, over?"

I stood amidst the ruin like a carrion queen surveying the aftermath of some ancient sacrificial rite.

The basin had become a wound carved into the flesh of the world, its rocky shores littered with broken armor, cooling corpses from both participants, and wounded stormtroopers struggling to drag themselves through the war torn sand.

Above the thunder of dying blaster fire, the left flank still held, stubborn and unyielding against an enemy pressing upon it.

Through my comlink came the voice of Orinn Darge, slightly distorted by static and interference, reporting incoming medvacs and the continued push toward the northern caverns. His words drifted through my thoughts like omens whispered by unseen spirits lurking beyond the veil of reality.

I listened intently, watching the wounded stumble and the fallen remain motionless beneath the pale glow of alien skies.

Every disruption was another alteration to the tapestry I was so carefully weaving.

Every unexpected development was another hand reaching from the depths to rearrange my design.

With an irritated exhale, I snapped two fingers sharply. The sound cut through the surrounding chaos, drawing the attention of a nearby group of stormtroopers.

"Where is your commanding officer?" I asked, my voice carrying the cold authority of an executioner's decree.

One trooper responded by nodding his blaster rifle toward a figure collapsed into the sand several meters away, armor cracked and stained in scarlet.

Upon following the gesture, I merely shrugged my shoulders, annoyance stirring beneath the surface.

More changes.

More disruptions.

More variables clawing their way into existence before my very eyes.

"Very well," I said, dismissing the inconvenience with a wave of my hand. "You two are to go to the beach overlooking the basin and protect my associate, Mr. Hops'in. The rest of you will begin preparing the wounded for transport to the medvac landing zone. We leave the dead where they lie for now."

My gaze drifted northward toward the cavern mouths, black openings that seemed less like tunnels and more like the waiting throats of starving serpents.

A thin smile touched my lips.

"And once we deliver your wounded brothers to safety, I suppose we had best go take a look at these northern caverns before any more surprises attempt to spoil my day."

Ferrin (Comms Officer) | The Bridge | Stryker II:
The message came in.

“Affirmative Rampart 1, Med Bays are prepared for casualties. Continue advance and Stand by for the arrival of our transports. Stryker II out.”

He heard Holt order the transports to detach and begin their descent to the surface. The Runner Class Fast Transport was one of the fastest transports in the Outer Rim, they would get there in no time.

He leaned back in his seat. There were no other messages yet from his men, at least none important enough to transfer to the Bridge. That was fine, it meant things were going relatively smooth at least.

Zettour (Captain of FSS-9) | Bridge | MIN Avenger FSS-9:
The fighters were recalled as the fighting moved from the surface of the planet to the underground cave systems. He checked status reports. None were damaged as expected. Despite their insanity the enemy forces were relatively primitive in their technology. Now it was time to return to the main force.

He had his comms officer connect him with the Retaliation’s bridge.

“Hipper (Captain of the Retaliation FSS-4), I think we are done here. Shall we return to the main force?”

“Sure, transports are inbound with more supplies. I think the ground forces can handle it from here.”

“I’ll let the frigate captains know.” he said, before cutting the channel.

“We are heading back to the formation.” he informed his helm officer. “Stay in formation with Retaliation’s taskforce.” he ordered.

The two forces headed back to the main formation. Behind them the ground operation continued on schedule. Ruisto would be theirs soon.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
RUISTO, NEUTRAL SPACE
OBJECTIVE II: EXPLORE THE PLANET

Compared to the chaos on the beaches, the caves of Ruisto were far quieter. Alarmingly quiet, as a matter of fact.

Two hours in, Ronhar had yet to see a single living being, let alone hordes of crazed Mon Calamari or Sithspawn abominations. If Ronhar didn't know any better, he would almost go so far as to say that the cave system he was in was completely uninhabited.

But he did know better.

It was only a matter of time before he found what he was looking for, and he was certain that his adversaries would make themselves known sooner rather than later. The fact was that the cave he was in was no natural formation. It was impossibly cleanly made, for starters: completely symmetrical and lacking any sort of geological abnormalities that one might expect to see when going spelunking. Ever so often, Ronhar would catch bits of metal plating around the caverns, as if someone had perhaps sealed off certain entrances or reinforced weak points of the cave system itself. Finally, something just felt...off about the whole thing, if he was being honest. He couldn't quite explain what is was that was making him feel this way, but if had learned one thing over the last two years, it was to trust his gut when he had no other options or recourse to do so.

After all, when heading off into the unknown, what else could you trust?

Still, as the Imperial MAVw-SubTer Rover continued its course, Ronhar did appreciate the calm that had settled around him. It wasn't likely to last much longer, but it was still nice to be able to reflect for a bit, even if such reflection came with a sense of anxiety and dread. Part of Ronhar actually wished that the enemy would attack him again, because at least then he would know what he was up against. Perhaps that was their plan all along: lull the Imperials into a false sense of security, make them begin to doubt themselves and then strike them when their spirits were at their lowest?

Only time would tell, but one thing was certain: Ronhar was nearing the end of his journey, and he was sure to find the whatever it was that had been giving him so much trouble on this mission!

It didn't take long before someone was hailing her formation. The greenish Quarren female comms officer motioned & they played the broadcast
“Unidentified formation, this is Commander Holt, Executive Officer of the MIN Stryker II, First Scouting Squadron, Mahporeem Imperial Remnant. You are operating in a system under active Imperial operations. Please identify yourselves and state your purpose.”

Ugh, Imperials always wanting what we need. She folded her arms for a moment before before unfolding them. Walking over to the holo projector Binn motioned before sending a response.

"Hello Commander Holt. I am Binn Toskros of Toskros shipwrights based partially out of Dac. I am here following the acquisition of a company that has claim to this station. Here is the paperwork, being sent now. IC & ISA code 185-6T9F-746-X34-76"

It was a half truth, she did acquire a old failing company... but they hadn't finished tracing all the ancient archives to see if it was them or the other two dozen barely there suppliers, building owners, and investment companies Binn had acquired trying to make the claim actually more legal than others. Then again often might makes right, so she may have to fight & bring in reinforcements.

While the exchange of words begins the crews and droid continue their work moving replacement equipment into place & seeing what systems they may be able to jumpstart.

Time will tell.

Holt | The Bridge | Stryker II:
The reply came in.

"Hello Commander Holt. I am Binn Toskros of Toskros shipwrights based partially out of Dac. I am here following the acquisition of a company that has claim to this station. Here is the paperwork, being sent now. IC & ISA code 185-6T9F-746-X34-76"

ATLAS and ATHENA ran the code. It was from a company that was associated with the Confederacy of Free Worlds. He thought about what to do. It would be poor taste to get in the way of their operations, but at the same time he didn’t want any other ships dropping in. He gave his reply.

“Good to meet you Mrs. Toskros, you may continue your operations. Please do not attempt to approach the planet or bring in other assets as that will be seen as hostile. You are very lucky I might add, Station 4 was the only station that looked salvageable. I wish yall the best of luck.”

He cut the channel.

“The Avenger and Retaliation mini taskforces have returned.” reported Ferrin.

“Good,” he replied. “Everyone is back. As soon as Charles is finished chatting with the Admiral we will move to the next step of the plan.”

He checked the tactical displays. The Runners had made it to the surface and were unloading their cargo in the now uncontested surface. It was a variety of temporary shelter gear, enough to survive until a more permanent location could be completed.

He sighed. There was no more he could do. He hoped the meeting would end soon.

Rampart Platoon, MSOC "Valkyrie"
Location:
Forward Operational Lines, Northern Cave Complexes - Planet Ruisto
Commander: First Lieutenant Orrin Darge (Rampart 1)
Tag: R'ayne Asara R'ayne Asara QS-022 QS-022 Captain Charles Captain Charles Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane

The mountain basin had transformed from a blinding nightmare into an eerily quiet killing field as an unnatural fog rolled over the rock face like a heavy canvas, completely swallowing their sight lines and scattering the Seeker-4 telemetry.

Amidst the swirling ash-gray mist, the fighting had abated, but the battlefield remained fluid and dirty. Sporadic slugthrower rounds pinged off the basalt shelves, and the distant, echoing snarls of scattered Anooba cells tracking their movement through the crags kept the platoon's tactical HUDs continuously flashing amber.

Orrin knelt behind a shattered trimantium pillar, firing a controlled, three-round burst from his G-12 Assault Blaster Carbine to flatten a crazed Mon Calamari skirmisher lunging from a high crevice.

Having subdued the Mon Cal, he tapped his short-range comms, locking the frequency to his senior ground NCO.

"Rampart 2, we've got to keep moving. We're going to have to split the squads," Orrin commanded, his tone calm, steady, and entirely in control. "The valley is getting crowded, and we can't advance with the wounded. You are staying behind at LZ Beta. Pull an element from Specter and Siren Squads and hold a hard perimeter over the CCP until the last transports arrive."

"Copy that, Sir," Sergeant Major Hamish Horvath rumbled back through his vocoder, his massive gray-and-green frame shifting to a protective posture as he prepared to deliver the new orders to the stay-behind element. "I'll hold down the drop zone. But what about the fleet, LT? We still have to post the beacons."

"Take the rest of your team and fan them out to the outer perimeters of the main LZ," Orrin directed, snapping a fresh power pack into his carbine. "Sweep out the remaining crags and eliminate hostile targets as they appear. Once we have the full grid locked down, get the techies to spike-in the nav-beacons and give Stryker Command the all-clear. The fog is blinding. Our heavy birds are going to need that telemetry to land anything in this chop." Leaning closer to the grizzled SNCO, Orrin gestured over his shoulder at the heavy transport boxes tethered to the rear frame of his command team's gear. Speaking just loud enough for his trusted Sgt Major to hear, Orrin added, "And Hamish, make sure to keep our new "friends" on ice for Lady Asara when she gets on station." Inside the reinforced cages, safely sedated by Siren Squad tactical injectors, were a pair of sleeping Anoobas Orrin had ordered be captured during the aftermath of the previous ambush. It was a startingly deadly breed of local fauna, and Orrin was holding them back as a deliberate surprise for the Mother of Monsters when he finally got to meet her face-to-face. He would settle for letting Horvath have the honor for now.

"Nothin' to it, Boss," Horvath replied, delivering a crisp, disciplined salute before sliding back down the basalt incline to rally the defensive screen.

Turning back to the front line, Orrin raised a gauntleted fist, signaling the core of his direct-action squads. "The rest of you, form up on me! Resume bounding overwatch. We need to reach those caves, ASAP. Double time it Valkyries!"

With the main force reorganized, Rampart Platoon pressed aggressively north toward the jagged teeth of the mountain cracks, executing silent, fluid bounding movements through the thick mist. They moved as fast as safely possible across the difficult, volcanic terrain, keeping their weapons low as they successfully evaded the fractured remnants of the feral colony.

Battle-worn and tired, but wholly unbroken, the platoon finally crested the northern ridge line, where the massive, dark profiles of Captain Tane's IFVs sat in tactical blocking positions, idling in the smothering fog. Ronhar's main mechanized convoy was already deployed, and one of those that remained above ground, Orrin could see its armor panels scorched where screaming colonists had tried to claw through the durasteel hull.

Bringing his platoon to a disciplined halt just behind the rear security perimeter of an idling armored personnel carrier, Darge crossed the short distance through the fog toward the vehicle's rear command hatch, seeking out the ranking field officer. He pounded his gauntlet twice against the hull, calling out for the section chief.

The heavy rear blast hatch hissed open, revealing a battle-weary Mahporeem NCO. The veteran leader, upon seeing the iconic battleship-gray and tactical field-green markings of MSOC Valkyrie, snapped a quick respectful field salute.

"Ah, Valkyrie Lead. Nice of you to join us, LT. Good to see friendly special forces on my CP," he jokingly grunted, shouting over the deep rumble of the rover's engine blocks. "This fog is a mess. Scanners are blind, and those crazies kept leaking out of the lower seams like vermin. We are finally seeming to get the lines clear."

Orrin explained, his voice entirely grounded and calm through his vocoder. "My boys and I are good to go and standing by. I need you to Raise Captain Tane on your net. Let him know the Valkyries have reached his perimeter. If we're gonna push into this fight, we're going to need one of your vicks to catch up."

The trooper nodded sharply, reaching into his console to toggle a high-priority, secure command frequency leading deep into the center of the mechanized push.

"Captain Tane, this is Perimeter Control," the veteran officer transmitted, passing the tactical receiver toward Orrin. "Rampart 1 has reached the cave complex. He is requesting a SITREP and standing by for your orders. Patching him through to you now."

I stood at the mouth of the cavern network and allowed my awareness to drift through its winding arteries like a virus crawling through its veins; purposeful and methodical.

Below, columns of Imperial soldiers advanced beneath the stone walls, their armor gleaming beneath portable illumination devices that cast long, skeletal shadows across the cavern walls.

Vehicles and military squads had already begun securing access routes while officers barked orders with the confidence of men who believed they held dominion over their circumstances.

Through the Force, I tasted discipline, caution, and calculated aggression woven together into a singular purpose. There was no panic, no confusion, no weakness for me to correct. The machine of war moved as it was intended to move.

For once, my hand was unnecessary.

The realization settled over me like a soft shroud. The commanders had the operation firmly within their grasp, and I had no desire to hover over competent servants merely to satisfy my own vanity.

With that determination made, I turned from the darkness of the caverns and began my return toward the shoreline, where Mr. Hops'in was no doubt continuing his survey of the surrounding terrain.

The man's observations regarding elevated positions and defensive vantage points would prove far more valuable to me than overseeing soldiers who required no guidance.

The scent of salt and damp stone drifted upon the coastal winds as I descended toward the beach, though my progress halted when an unusual disturbance caught my eye.

Two stormtroopers stood beside a struggling anooba they had somehow managed to restrain, the beast snarling and snapping against its bindings while its beastial eyes burned with feral indignation.

I regarded the creature for a moment, sensing the wild instincts thrashing beneath its hide, before shifting my gaze to the troopers.
"Keep it alive and under constant observation," I commanded, my voice carrying the cold authority of a mourner's bell.

"I will have personnel dispatched to retrieve it and the two of you shall be compensated for its capture. However, if it escapes, I shall hold both of you personally responsible."

The pair stiffened immediately and acknowledged the order. Satisfied, I continued toward the beach, leaving the captured predator behind as another curiosity waiting to be claimed by my growing dominion.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
RUISTO, NEUTRAL SPACE
OBJECTIVE II: EXPLORE THE PLANET

Eventually, the caverns got so tight that Ronhar and his team were forced to abandon the Imperial MAVw-SubTer Rover and continue on foot, leaving their vehicle behind as they ventured even deeper into the bowels of the cave system. After yet another hour of walking, Ronhar finally stumbled upon what must have been the cause of the disturbance.

A machine the likes of which Ronhar had never seen before.

It was massive in size and completely alien in appearance. Jedi, Sith, Mandalorian, Imperial, nothing that Ronhar knew about matched the description of the device in front of him. But what was it? What was it doing down here, and what was its purpose? Hell, who had even made it in the first place? Ronhar wasn't going to get any answers by staying away, so he began to move closer to inspect the machine...

...before promptly stopping as he heard the sound of a blaster being cocked behind him and aimed at him.

Ronhar turned away to see all seven of his men pointing their weapons directly at him, ready to fire and take him out!

"What the hell are you doing?", Ronhar asked with immense irritation.

"I'm sorry sir, but I can't allow you proceed any further", one of his men replied as he started to move closer to Ronhar. "You haven't shown the machine the reverence it deserves, and we need to correct that before going and further."

Ronhar's mind raced to try and figure out why his men would betray him so suddenly, and he was willing to bet his life that the machine behind him had something to do with it. Yet Ronhar himself felt completely fine, and he clearly remembered his mission. Why hadn't he been affected by the strange device? Of course! It must be due to the helmet he was wearing, the Helm of Authority that had been specially alchemized for him by the Junkyard Knights of Mahporeem! They had designed it to resist whisperings of the Dark Side and force based mind attacks, and Ronhar was willing to assume that that apparently applied to whatever it was that was going on here.

Meaning that Ronhar had to shut down the machine or destroy it if he wanted to free his men from its influence.

"I see", Ronhar replied evenly as he slowly dropped his weapon and put his hands up. "I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean though, perhaps we could talk things out?", Ronhar continued as the mind controlled solider approached him ever more closely. "I mean, this whole situation, it's just a bit...unusual, don't you think? Why, if I didn't know any better, I might assume-hey, what's that over there?"

It was the oldest trick in the book, but it worked: the soldier approaching Ronhar took his eyes off him for just the briefest of moments, allowing Ronhar to spring into action. He rocketed forward with his repulsorboots, striking the man in front of him as hard as he could, knocking him out cold as he reversed direction and started heading toward the machine. A chorus of blaster fire followed after him, and Ronhar had to dodge and weave to avoid being hit by his own men. Eventually, he reached the device, but he had no idea how to shut it off, and the blaster fire coming at him was only getting closer to hitting him. Thinking quickly, Ronhar pulled out his Prototype Sonic Pistol, set it for its highest setting, and started shooting the ceiling of the cave above the machine, sending massive chunks of rock falling below onto it. One of the rocks smashed directly into the machine itself, and it suddenly started making what appeared to be a sort of emergency wail.

The effects on Ronhar's men were instant: they immediately stopped shooting at him, utterly confused at what they had been doing up until that point. "LET'S MOVE!", Ronhar shouted as more rocks began following all around them, and the machine began emitting an even faster paced beeping. Picking up the man he had knocked out, Ronhar and the rest of the team exited the cavern just as a massive bolder fell behind them, sealing in the device as it exploded spectacularly, preventing any chance of coming back to study whatever it was in the first place.

Up above, all of the crazed Mon Calamari and their animal companions suddenly came back to their senses, and they stopped attacking the invading Imperial forces. Whatever it was that Ronhar had destroyed, it had stopped the Mon Calamari in their tracks, and an uneasy peace suddenly descended across the planet...

Rampart Platoon, MSOC "Valkyrie"
Location:
Northern Cave Complexes [Transitioning to Permanent MIR Military Base] — Planet Ruisto
Commander: First Lieutenant Orrin Darge (Rampart 1)
Tag: Ronhar Tane | R'ayne Asara | Captain Charles | QS-022

The smoke hanging over the northern cave mouths was heavy, smelling of scorched durasteel and fried wiring as Captain Ronhar Tane relayed the SITREP over the local secure net. Having set up his battered force alond the established security line, Lt. Darge acknowledged the stunning report as he hurriedly noted its impressive details in his commander's datapad describing how Tane's heavy MAVw-SubTer Rovers and PGEM Light Infantry Fighting Vehicles had systematically boxed in the subterranean hostiles before ordering his forces deeper into the caverns onfoot. The dismounted infantry had pushed deep into the dark shafts, mapping the hidden enclaves and permanently sealing the underground fissures with demolition charges to neutralize the remaining hive nodes and permanently destroying the ancient invasive technology therein.

With the frontline assessment confirmed, Orrin unclipped his long-range transmitter, opening a direct line to patch an explicit report straight to the flagship orbit.

"Vigil Command, this is Rampart 1," Orrin radioed, his voice clear and professional over the static. "Captain Tane's elements have successfully neutralized the xenotech device and succesfully collapsed the subterranean core structures. All localized hostile cells have been neutralized and remaining OPFOR appear to be pacified and returning to their senses somehow. The primary grid is secure, and thanks to their efforts, the site has been fully locked down. Assessment on the ground at this time is we are clear to initiate the second phase of the OPORD. Conditions are green to start launching the heavy gear. Rampart Platoon standing by at this time for further orders."

RUISTO CAMPAIGN - SECOND PHASE - +30 STANDARD DAYS
The plasma-scorched battle lines of the initial landings had vanished, buried beneath a massive, automated sea of Imperial construction scaffolding.

Where the thick, ash-gray fog had once swallowed their sightlines, the towering durasteel foundations of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant's permanent Forward Operating Base now pierced the twilight sky. Following the initial combat operations, the Remnant's development blueprint had shifted to establishing a permanent presence utilizing the planet's vast, cleared subterranean topography as a keystone.

After Captain Tane's mechanized units had detonated their charges to collapse the unstable cave networks surrounding the unmapped, ancient machinery, the arriving Mahporeem Engineering Corps had ultimately moved in with heavy industrial plasma drills. The engineers blasted and excavated deep around and directly beneath the old tunnels, carving a massive, fortified network out of the living rock to make the core base complex entirely bomb-proof and tactically secure.

Due to the unyielding instability of the planet's native fauna and the sheer strategic isolation of the sector, Mahporeem Sovereign Command had issued an indefinite extension to Rampart Platoon's ground deployment there. Having been fully resupplied and with the return of their recuperated personnel, they were ordered to stay on-world, acting as a quick reaction and security force to protect the engineering corps and development personnel.

For Orrin, the extended deployment had been an invaluable testing ground for his fledgling command. His men had performed admirably and he had been personally commended on his tactical decisions. Having the additional time on Ruisto proved valuable to the men of Rampart Platoon. The relatively inhospitable conditions on-world presented Orrin and his team a series of appropriate challenges. He would come to see the space as his own sort of tactical laboratory.

He walked slowly along the reinforced high-observation balcony of the newly anchored command bastion, his boots clicking sharply on the durasteel deck. Just behind him, walking pace-for-pace, was Sergeant Major Hamish Horvath. The veteran NCO's scuffed gray-and-green chest plates were freshly polished, but they still bore the hard dings of their month-long reconnaissance loops. Down below them in the courtyard, a squad of Rampart troopers was executing a synchronized firing drill, previsely dialing in the optics on their battle rifles.

"The techs just wrapped up the long-range sensor pickets along the northern passes, Lieutenant," Horvath said, his gravelly voice carrying clearly over the howling winds. "Sector is entirely compliant. As you ordered, our boys are on rotating patrol schedules."

"Outstanding work, Sergeant Major," Orrin replied, his eyes shifting toward the treacherous, unmapped mountain chains stretching past the horizon. "Keep 'em on a hard training regimen. This world isn't going to let us get soft."

Horvath followed Orrin's gaze toward the beast pens, matching his slow stride. "Are the rumors from MARSOF Command true, Boss? They're eyeing this rock for something permanent?"

"They are," Orrin said with a confident, pragmatic nod. "Once the main military presence is fully established and the logistics lines are solid, SOFCOM wants to start utilize Ruisto as a designated training world for our operators. But this stays between us for now. I'll know more once I get back."

He tapped the housing of his G-12 weapon, watching a Lambda B-TIE gunship glide smoothly over the construction bay.

"It's a reasonable place for it really. The atmospheric density, the persistent storms, the jagged terrain, and the mix of hostile predators... it's a perfect crucible," Orrin stated coldly. "If a Special Missions Trooper can learn to survive and thrive in these wild mountains, they can survive anywhere in the galaxy."

Horvath cocked a smile and rendered a flimsy salute. "Aye aye, Sir!"
