OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To resub and flesh out the Korriban Sith Academy for rising Acolytes.
  • Canon: Sith Academy (Korriban)
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: N/A
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: The Royal Academy of Korriban
  • Classification: Elite Sith Academy
  • Location:
  • Affiliation: Sith Eternal
  • Accessibility:
    • Built on the edge of Dresdae City, the Royal Academy of Korriban is relatively simple to find - as the large spaceport only a few kilometers away has constant traffic both on and off the planet. With a city of a few hundred thousand settled so close, the Academy has no issue with its relative isolation; getting all it needs almost passively due to the administrative infrastructure situated within the capital city. Leave alone that its reforged pyramid is fighting for the crown of the tallest structure in Dresdae, anyone flying into the city is presented a glorious view of it on the horizon.

However, despite its obvious location and infrastructural support, it is often difficult to reach for more natural reasons. Korriban is known for its harsh weather, and Dreshdae and the Academy are as many victims to it as the rest of the planet. Large and violent storms often assail the city - and with it, the Academy, meaning that for days or even weeks the Academy can be unreachable by normal means. Only those within the city, or have very specialized shielding, can bypass the Dark Side infused storms to reach the city.

In terms of accessibility, once one finds the facility, there are some caveats. There are numerous public sections, such as the holo archives and the dedicated high-speed holonet uplinks; but there are still harsh security checkpoints that are used to stop infiltration, such as wings dedicated to student housing, classrooms, or administrative offices. Notably, after the Jedi Raid, there is extra security to ensure it can not be duplicated soon; making the sight of an augmented droid or Sith Prefects on patrol a common enough sight to become nigh unnoticeable.
  • Description:
    • If one were to approach from the Valley of Sleeping Kings, they would see through the cold dust and brown haze a massive Pyramid jutting from the walls of the Valley; blocking off its path with a towering stoicism that represents the Sith itself. It stands in direct opposition to the natural canyon's aesthetic, an obvious insult to the natural order of the terribly scarred Planet. There is no mistaking its architecture for anything less than a symbol of Sith totality - their hegemony in the Force and the Galaxy as a whole.

Towering, the Pyramid stands nearly as tall as the Great Pyramid of Korriban - effectively making the city of Dreshdae the city of two pyramids. However, while the Great Pyramid holds the administrative prowess of the Empire, the Royal Academy holds the future of the Order's elite - and it is shown in its Sith stylizations. Large obsidian faces line it, with a crown of gold on top; carved with the old tongue in various symbols of power to absorb the latent strength of the Dark Side from Korriban itself, focusing it to encourage fostering the growth of the acolytes beneath it.

Not only noticeable through the Force, but through the nature of its architecture - the Royal Academy is unmistakeable from anyone who witnesses it; either through the flight into the city for imperial meetings or the arrival of a new student who will instantly sense the dark side's power within this place; there is nothing to deny it's presence.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Points of Entry -
    • Dedicated Docks -
      • As with any high import facility, the Royal Academy has a series of docks specifically meant for various purposes. While there are dedicated hangers for high-priority visitors such as the Lords of the Sith, most landing platforms are external with shielding meant to protect its assets from the harsh weather conditions. Built into the cliffs by the Primeval, the platforms provide greater access directly to the facility - while being separated enough to ensure that any would-be smugglers would still need to walk through nearly a half kilometer of tunnels or dusty walkways; increasing the likelihood they would be caught before they can enter the Academy. Additionally, each of the landing platforms and private hangers is protected by dedicated Anti-Starfighter weapons; be it the Turbolaser Towers, Flak Cannons, or anti-personnel emplacements pointed towards the various entrances.

The largest of these is a cargo dock specifically meant for small to medium-sized freighters; where each is guided in by complicated landing AI before being searched by ground crews for contraband; this can include high fidelity scans for secret compartments, life form scanners, and the occasional Sith Perfect to ensure no beings are stowed away in attempts to infiltrate the facility. Once security has been established, a series of automated cargo droids quickly and efficiently take cargo from the ship and stack it - before secondary droids further sort the supplies received and deliver them to the indicated area of the Academy through the sub-levels hidden throughout the Pyramid; be it robes, training weapons, alchemic supplies, or repair material.

Smaller, but equally as secure, is the passenger arrival and departure terminal. Having docs for transport ships of small size, and additional docks for air speeders, each of the transport ships are searched once again by Sith Prefects for any stragglers - before each of the trainees arriving are brought off the ship and commanded into straight lines. The elite nature of the academy means that the requirements and stress of surviving it are extremely high - so acclimating the acolytes to these conditions sooner than later is often preferred. Yelling, physical abuse if necessary, and showing those Force-sensitives with extreme potential what they will face is preferred before they are stripped down to their undergarments and walked through the cold winds of Korriban to their new home.

The last of these docks are the private hangers; most often utilized by the administration and teachers of the Academy. While most are directly connected to the in-house apartments of the instructors, they are still given extreme measures of security; perhaps even more so due to the proximity to highly sensitive information and personnel. Each is given dedicated heavy laser cannons, turbolasers, and dedicated security teams - leave alone the shields and large blast doors that can be closed at a moment's notice. The most exclusive and equipped of these, however, are the Overseer's Hanger.

Being in charge of both the teachers and the academy as a whole, the Overseer is given a dedicated hanger towards the top of the Pyramid that is nearly indiscernible from the outside. The obsidian face will open upon their arrival, allow a large ship to land within its hanger, then seal once more; ensuring that it is protected from the outside elements and any would-be tampering. Their hanger is more luxurious than the others - lined with pillars of obsidian with ur-Kittat inlay carved into each with gold lettering; giving a decadent hint at the awesome power of its leader.
    • Dreshdae Gated Entrance -
      • From the other side of the Academy, opposite of the Valley of the Sleeping Kings, there lies the city of Dreshdae. Being directly connected to the Academy, and the new seat of power of the Lords of the Sith, there is a large amount of traffic that is received from the city itself; notably from the far larger spaceport within the city, or the various acolytes and instructors walking to and from the cities many sights.

Due to this high traffic, and the danger of an impending invasion, two large alchemized gates seal to themselves when not open. More than a few meters thick, and infused with the Dark Side itself, the gates are not only extremely difficult to open but doubled difficult to simply destroy. Gates alone, however, no matter how tall, are not enough to protect the facility itself; as various walls patrolled by Sith Prefects, large and complicated sensor arrays to sense for infiltrators, and turbolaser towers to protect from land or air assaults alike; effectively making the facility a fortress in itself, all done to protect it from the likes of another massacre as the like of which the New Jedi Order committed against the Sith Empire of the Zambrano's.
  • Sub Levels & Hidden Areas -
    • Sub Levels -
      • Connecting the cliff-built landing platforms, and even a secret tunnel between the Great Pyramid and the Academy, there exists beneath and within the Academy a very large network of tunnels and pathways hidden from even the trainee's eyes. Used as a means to quickly traverse the Academy for security purposes, or even escape, they are extremely guarded points with hidden entrances throughout the Academy - with dedicated entrances within each of the instructor's personal apartments, some of the classrooms, and even hidden away behind archive walls, the only obvious entrances to the Sub Levels are within the storage areas; where the cargo droids deliver to each through the restricted area.

Within these pathways, the cargo droids deliver their goods and supplies around the facility outside the sight of the acolytes or visitors. This is done in part to maintain the seamless aesthetic of a center of higher learning; however, the secondary purpose is to ensure privacy for anything of exceptional value being delivered. This can range from rare holocrons, or even alchemic items an instructor has ordered - but this can help ensure privacy to any of those living within the facility. However, they are not the only ones to benefit from such.

Dedicated barracks, armory, and heavy vehicle hangers are found beneath the Academy additionally. Bombardment proof, the tunnels are built deep enough to be able to resist the unfortunate orbital bombardment from groups like the Republic or Mandalorians - or even other Sith factions. Being secured as they are, they serve as the perfect means of quick transportation between the various exits; making the arrival of reinforcements to any area of the Academy done in record time - often leading to the myth that the security forces of the academy can 'teleport' to conflict; adding to the myth of the Academy, and the effectiveness of its security forces.
    • AI & Network Administration -
      • Realizing that previous iterations of the Sith Academy were simplistic and ancient - some iterations using stone doors and simple beds - the rebuilt Academy made the executive decision to modernize the facility; creating complex networking infrastructure to allow greater access to information for the acolytes and masters alike, along with research departments that could both digitize and study ancient Sith artifacts collected by the archeology department that has become increasingly pivotal in the success of the New Order.

Due to the extreme amount of information to be processed, the Academy reached out to Jaeger Solutions and had them install a series of A-02 Super Processors along with a single X-02 AI Administrator. Together they create a central processing unit that requires extreme security - but in turn, provides the academy with the most advanced AI in the galaxy; which in itself has created the opportunity for the academy to utilize it in a variety of ways they did not initially assume were possible. Able to predict unrecovered Sith tombs, actively manage all the droid, computational, and infrastructure demands of the facility, and even accurately predicting where future Force Sensitives would be born for Frumentarii retrieval - the X-02 serves as one of the essential measures to ensure education fidelity.

Taking on a generally male persona, the AI refers to itself as 'Typhojem' and offers itself as the assistant to every instructor, researcher, and acolyte within the facility through various parallel personalities. This combined with its extremely in-depth tutoring efficiency coding allows it to promote the greatest fidelity of education possible - providing information, translations, and perfected learning curves personalized to every single member of the facility. In its essence, it is the perfect teacher; but is limited in its lack of force connection, so while it can help teach liberal arts or training droid practice, it still requires dark side masters to be able to create new sith lords.
    • Force Prison -
      • Constructed beneath the standard sub-levels, the Force Prison underneath the Korriban Academy is used to store those who are exceptionally violent - or otherwise lose their mind in the Valley of Sleeping Kings. Due to the harsh nature of the Dark Side, and its extreme potency, the area is notorious for corrupting those who spend too much time there; and for the uninitiated, it can often become too much. Murdering other students, attacking educators, and a slew of other crimes can see someone disappear into the lower levels - often never to be seen again.

Locked behind a hermetically sealed meter thick vault door, the area has multiple force cages and 'White Noise' generators to ensure that any force sensitives in the area are unable to access the Force; effectively an equalizer within the confines of the cage. On-site security and droids monitor them at all times - with a laser kill field in emergencies to clear the room in the event of a full break-out attempt.
  • Outside (Front) -
    • Zannah Gardens -
      • Built by Overseer Seki during her visit to help establish the Royal Academy of Korriban, the Zannah Gardens find their place directly behind the walls that protect the Pyramid from the city. While normal plants can not survive the harsh conditions of Korriban, the area has specially augmented plants and trees that thrive in the Dark Side - feeding off of it as a normal plant may feed off the sun and soil. Together, these create a dark floral aesthetic that is creatively placed to encourage a beautiful external view looking in - while also serving as a perfect means for Sith to learn the art of living alchemy and gardening; even holding a few rare specimens like the Orchid that Blackwing finds its genesis from.

Deeper within, there are two seating areas made of black marble - a fountain within each, holding the statue of legendary Sith Lords Revan and Malak within. A nod to what they had achieved and offered the Order, notably to their near destruction of the Republic, each is taken care of with pristine precisions - though they are alchemized to be resistant to general wear and tear. However, the second reason is that they move; watching those that enter, or finding new poses when they so wish - and while they do not teach or even speak, the mere movements of them are directly a hint at the power that resides within the instructors and architects of the academy.

Last, there are multiple greenhouses lined with sithspawn and genetically altered plants specifically for education - however, there are a few special cases that are more the direct experimentation of the instructors or acolytes rather than a direct teaching utensil. The greenhouses also double as storage for environmentally sensitive plants, able to simulate a wide variety of environmental conditions there exists within it a massive collection of plants from across the galaxy - so much so that the largest of the Greenhouses stretches deep into the cliff walls, and even beneath the hard Korriban ground.
    • The Grand Staircase -
      • Once more made of black marble speckled with red tints of dark energy that seemed to move beneath the polished surface, the Grand Staircase is the first sight most see if they choose to enter the Academy from the side of the City. Towering, the Grand Staircase is meant more as an example of the New Order's purpose than anything actually effective - besides tiring our invaders looking to enter the facility by force.

Due to its less than practical purposes, it contains multiple repulsors lifts to go both up and down the massive stairs; though these can be disabled and hidden away in the event of an emergency, along with the stairs themselves adjusting their angle to make walking into the Academy far more difficult. Others often find a use for the stairs by exercising on them, and it is not unheard of to witness students and masters running up and down the stairs multiple times a day.
  • Outside (Rear) -
    • Proving Grounds -
      • As with any Sith Academy, there exists an arena specifically meant to test the abilities of its trainees. For the Royal Academy of Korriban, a large dusty coliseum was built directly behind the facility directly on top of the cliffside arena once utilized by Darth Bane in his own challenges. Windswept by the harsh Korriban Winds and one of the few places not shielded, it creates a harsh and dark area for the fights to occur - while Instructors oversee the training of the apprentices to ensure minimal fatalities occur on Academy grounds.

With seating arrangments overwatching the arena, they are given a shield generator that can protect them from weather conditions while also giving a great view of possible candidates for one on one tutoring. Often taken advantage of by Lords seeking apprentices, or Instructors trying to get a gauge on the quality of their students, this area has a variety of refreshment droids, environmental acclimation, and quality leather seating specifically for that purpose.

Attached to it is a smaller durasteel building that contains an armory and emergency medical center. The former holds training droids, training sabers, and a variety of weighted training armors for those that prefer to wear such, while the latter contains an emergency medical droid and bacta tank specifically to provide quick assistance to any trainee injured in the proving grounds. This has substantially reduced fatalities and even permanent injuries across academy grounds - while still allowing the foundations of infighting for the students to both understand and expand upon.
    • Archeological Wing -
      • Separated from the main academy, the Archeological Wing was built to ensure the long term sustainability of Sith History - focusing primarily on the Valley of the Sleeping Kings, but doubling as a central processing center for Sith Artifacts from across the galaxy; even those bought up from auctions or stolen from private collections. Directly in league with Frumentarii collection agencies, and the Consul Legions for their scientific expertise, the Archeological Wing is well respected by the galactic community in general - or at least those that appreciate historic fidelity.

The Central Facility is under tight security - only those with complete or specialized security clearance area allowed in, doubly so for the requirements to even enter. Decontamination protocols are put in place to ensure no foreign bacteria or contaminates are allowed within; primarily to protect the more sensitive of the findings. Sith spellbooks, ancient articles of clothing, various biological material - whatever can be saved must be, even going as far to have a series of stasis chambers that 'freeze' time around the artifacts when necessary.

After their preservation is secured, on-sight team members use 'Typhojem' to actively digitize and archive all the information they can find through traditional tests and translations. Once archived, copies and documents are put in the holo library based on security concerns to the information - while reports are doubly sent to the Overseer, and a backup sent to the Dark Council. This allows the Archeological Wing to actively serve as one of the greatest exporters of Sith knowledge - helping to bring back knowledge once thought lost to the infighting, Jedi intrusions, and general lack of maintenance.

When artifacts are finally studied or otherwise deemed too dangerous to be experimented with, they are sent to live the rest of their life in a relativistic, force shielded vault many kilometers beneath the surface of Korriban. This is both to prevent them from being stolen, but also to ensure they are kept secure - making the vault the greatest source of Sith artifacts in the known galaxy, easily outdoing every private collection. This makes it doubly interesting for the rising Sith Lords who wish access to the artifacts - some for their own knowledge base, others to try and claim the more dangerous ones. The Archeological Wing because of this, is heavily sought after by much of the Lords of the Sith's members - often for the same power-hungry reasons.
  • Classrooms -
    • Training Wing-
      • Spanning multiple levels, multiple classrooms, and a wide variety of high-tech training implements - the by far largest and most in-depth area of the entire Academy is centered directly in its training Wing. Able to hold a few thousand students at any given time, there exists within a very large space for every manner of Force Teachings - from the Dark to the Neutral; specifically to ensure the next generation of Sith is given the best opportunity to become the very best.
        • Simulator Wings -
          • Two versions of the Simulators exist. The first is something simple - full dive VR to acclimate Sith trainees to the reality of war, live combat, and a wide variety of challenges they may face from starfighter captaining to managing a bridge; all done from the safety of the academy. The second is far more real; allowing them to use the Force to experience what is often referred to as the 'Pain Tube', an AI managed room filled with traps, blasters, rubber whips, and debris they can shoot at the target - with varying degrees of gravity, climate, oxygen content, and more.
            • VR Deep Dive -
              • As notated, the primary purpose of the VR Deep Dive systems is to encourage the mental growth and experience of the acolytes - helping to round them out beyond the more simplistic needs of a saber to be tossed about. This is done through a wide variety of programs that actively write new coding to ensure it is personalized to every person - managed by the academy AI Typhojem at all times. This allows the system to offer programs tailored strictly to the student's interest - and even allows more experienced users to learn new skills and approaches to things they may have only recently taken interest in.
            • 'Pain Tube' -
              • Due to the nature of the VR Deep Dive and being unable to call upon the Force as directly, the Pain Tube is a series of rooms specially designed to be augmented on a whim. From having spikes, traps, blasters, robots, and a variety of other obstacles - to even augmented gravity, oxygen content, or weather conditions to simulate various planets. The system is both an acclimator to planetary environments but also encourages the students within to seek the Force to guide their movements - lest they get surprised by an attack from the rear, leaving more than a few marks on them in the process.
        • Specialized Force Training Rooms -
          • Kro Var Training Rooms -
            • Specifically built to contain the elemental strength of even the greatest Kro Var masters, the rooms contain both fireproof droid along with extra sealant to ensure that any practices of the Kro Var stay well within the containment of their room. Each has a wide variety of training tools to help expand on their physical and martial abilities while also providing training augmentations to make their implementation of such more difficult - from changing the atmospheric pressure to temperature adjustments, to even lowering oxygen content. While not generally focused on in the realm of Dark Side beliefs, the modern implementation of such into the curriculum allows for a far more rounded Sith to be made.
          • Mechu Deru Training Rooms -
            • Taking note from Caulder Dune Caulder Dune exceptional implementation of the skill, multiple rooms with a wide variety of simple to complex machinery is implemented to test the limits of its followers. From the simple droid to the far more complex virtual machines created by Typhojem; there exists a variety of opportunities to expand one's knowledge in the various implementations of Machu Deru.
          • Dathomiri Training Rooms -
            • Built with the knowledge of Mother Talzin's grimoire in mind, the Dathomiri rooms were built to find a unity between Sith's teachings and the dark side potential of the Dathomir witches. Rooms built specifically to implement Dark Side magic rituals, and otherwise serve as the primary area of practice next only to Dathomir itself; though with the added benefit of teaching newly found witches the benefits of the Sith theory.
          • Alchemy Training Rooms -
            • With the knowledge of Darth Empyrean Darth Empyrean at hand, the Academy built a series of rooms that better introduce one to the beginning practices of alchemy. Specifically, the creation of artifacts - be it holocrons, weapons, or jewelry. Forges lined with Dark Side fires, metal anvils alchemized to channel dark side energy, and all the implementations necessary to commit to such - there exists within those rooms enough implementations to craft a proverbial army's supply of weapons, though simplistic in nature as they would be.
        • Force Training Rooms -
          • Just as Jedi use to train their own, the Force Training Rooms are built to sustain many times their structural requirements in damage; notably from lightning, telekinesis, and a wide variety of training uses. From Wobble Balls, to even sith alchemized equivalents of the Muntuur Stones - only going high up in weight than the legendary Corsucanti equivalent - and more. From training droids, tsil crystal implementations, and meditation rooms to practice Sith Sorcery or augment one's connection to the Force through deep meditation; there even exists a room specifically meant to flood to test an acolytes ability to hold onto their breath for prolonged periods of time - with Maliphant's own record being well in excess of 72 hours on a single breath.
      • Liberal Arts Classes -
        • Founded on the principle that the best of the Sith should be well rounded, the Royal Academy provides a variety of classes on innumerable galactic subjects. With none being exceptionally poor as compared to the galactic standard, and a few even being considered 'ivy league' - the Royal Academy provides lessons on science, art, law, history, literature, and a large retinue of other possible subjects.

The most famous of these courses in the science and military training - as both have been well regarded by the neutral of the galaxy as the finest education one can get in either realm of learning. However, while the Academy is well regarded for its ability to teach hard and fast rules of war or galactic reality - physics included - they suffer when it comes to aspects of history. Be it due to the general galactic consensus that the Sith are simply trying to fill history with propaganda, or the rest of the galaxy refuses to acknowledge their take on history is hotly debated - but often a degree in such will only apply itself well within Sith space.
SECURITY
  • Security Rating: High
  • Due to the various attempts at destroying the future of the Sith, the Academy is heavily armed and patrolled by highly trained Sith Prefects - leave alone its contingent of Sith Lords, Educators, and the on-sight garrison meant to both mediate Acolyte fights but also prevent Jedi intervention into the building. These forces are highly trained in general defenses, anti-infiltration training given to them by the Frumentarii, and Jedi Killer tactics meant to overwhelm traditional force users - leave alone their large retinue of droids, automated armaments, and a variety of other tools.

In terms of structural defenses, the facility is built to resistant orbital bombardment with dreadnaught scale armor encasing the entire facility - designed by Jaeger Solutions to be a nigh uncollapsable location. Even controlled detonations with preparation can make it difficult to take down the building - but to add to that, it is doubly given a localized siege shield meant to prevent any incursion when the facility is in lockdown. Without such, it does have an awe-inspiring 20-meter high wall surrounding the facility - massive statues of Sith Lords with faces gilded in gold set about to induce a sense of grandeur and intimidation.

Offensively, the facility is armed with multiple turbolaser batteries - meant to stop the low orbit assault of the academy by ships small enough to enter orbit. While it does not have any orbital guns, it does have a variety of emplacements specifically meant to counter bomber and strafing runs - along with a variety of secret tunnels meant to allow the forces within to surround and assault forces from behind them. It should be noted these tunnels are heavily guarded - with lock-down blast doors that require multiple encryptions to pass, and collapsable charges within them should breach charges be detected within them.

Last, the facility is managed ECM-wise by Typhojem, a massive AI with exceptional processing power - making the facility mostly unhackable. This is to ensure the various physical defenses do not fail - but should all else fail, and the facility be brought into a state of 'siege', it can hold within it at any given time enough supplies to feed a full academy for approximately three years secluded from the rest of Korriban overall. This puts it on par with many fortresses of the galaxy, and with the final stage of its defense being 'Fight your way out' - meaning that even if Korriban is taken, the academy could train another generation reasonably so that they could surge out onto the planet to retake it, should all else fail.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Designed in 864ABY by Darth Maliphant, along with the help of a variety of third-party references - the facility was built to not only protect the next generation of Sith but to doubly serve as the ultimate locale of their training. Specifically built to hold every facet of education they would require, the highly intelligent Sith knew enough about a variety of subjects to implement state of the art training facilities in such ways that have never been attempted by the Sith prior - with the AI Typhojem to serve as an automated teaching utility to optimize the education of every single individual within the facility. For what the Sith could not understand well enough to build around it, they referenced outside sources - such as the research and development depart of Jaeger, or the fiscal and social network of the IGBC.
Together, they helped create the largest, grandest Sith Academy to ever be known to the galaxy - to ensure that no matter where the next generation came from, be it as slaves or nobility - they will have an equal chance to serve the Sith as the next Sith'ari. A foundational element of Maliphant's own philosophy, coming from slavery himself, has ensured that the magnificent nature of the academy is on par with the now-defunct Sith-Imperial library he had built upon Bastion as its short term governor.
Now, in 865ABY, at the onset of its full opening, the Academy sees its first generation of Sith finishing their courses when able - and being thrown to the wolves of the front line, but with the benefit of great education, both physical and mental, to add to their armament. It should be noted, however, that the high standards to actually learn at the facility should be accounted - that only Sith approved by the Educator Council are truly allowed within - making not only its standards for admittance very high but it's a level of fidelity equally as high.

This is a lovely submission and looks to almost be ready for approval! Just a few small details to fix however.

Here is the source needed for the Image Credit done by
Suirebit on DeviantArt. Also, there is a stray bullet point beneath the Links section. Were you intending to list anything there before moving forward?

And it absolutely doesn't hinder this submission's approval so I mention it only due to the effort put forward in this sub! Under Points of Interest in the training wing section the word neutral is spelled incorrectly.

And that's it!
