Background

In the beginning, Alchemy was profane.

For Isley Verd, the term was simply a shorthand for the ancient art of Sith. This narrow understanding led him to believe in terrible things. Stupid things. He believed that Power was only achievable through diving into blood, sacrifice, and Darkness. He believed that ritual and atrocity were th sole means of eliminating all weakness. However, Isley was liberated from this mindset by the woman who had shown him everthing. The transformation of [member="Rave Merrill"] from ambitious alchemist to humble craftswoman showed him that redemption was an option. Her creation of Ankarres Wood proved that there was indeed Power to be found in other, better means. And her death?

It rattled him enough to seize that option.

Following the passing of his mentor, Isley first attempted to distance himself from Alchemy altogether. Although he now understood that there was more than the Black Arts, he feared that so much as touching the Forge again would prompt a relapse. Thus did he auction away his most prized creations for practically nothing. Thus did he attempt to redeem himself in more ways than one. In doing so, he grew, but it would take the supervision of [member="Ijaat Mereel"] to reintroduce him to creation. You see, in the eyes of his people, an auction was well and good. Verbal intentions were fine too. Yet to absolve one's self of being Dar'manda called for more than words and auctions. It required a trial.

Ijaat's Trial.

Isley was, metaphorically, reborn by the fires of the Mereel Alor's forge. Ijaat showed him that creation, and by extension Power, was achievable without the Force. These teachings were more than enough to embolden Isley; and thus did he reshape his definition of Alchemy. The term, which one meant the Black Arts, now had a simpler meaning: Elevation through the Force.

And his first attempt at wielding this "new" craft? The Ring of Umber.

Description

At a glance, it is very evident that the Ring of Umber was crafted by a skilled hand. It consists of a band stainless steel within which Ankarres Wood has been fitted. By and large, its base characteristics (weight, etc.) match that of an average ring. However, due to the methods of its creation, it boasts the following capabilities:

  • (+) Being primarily composed of Ankarres Wood, the Ring of Umber is characterized by a "nurturing" affect. Ankarres Wood, of sufficient quality, boasts the capacity to soothe the Dark Side from the mind. In the context of its maker, the Ring is capable of/primarily used for keeping his darker persona at bay.
  • (+) The Ring of Umber can be utilized to strengthen the wearer's connection to the Force. In particular, it streamlines the process of concentrating/manifesting an ability. This is not to say that the resulting ability is augmented in any way, but rather is easier to accomplish.
  • (-) The Ring of Umber is, at the end of the day, composed of Wood and Stainless Steel. As such, it can be very easily damaged or destroyed.
  • (-) As with all items blessed by the Force, its affects will be nullified by entering a Ysalamir field.
