The Price To Pay For An Un-Common Act

Kay wasn't sure how [member="Veiere Arenais"] was going to react. She stood a little straighter when he reached for his sabers, almost in defiance of the stand that he could take against their people once again. But instead he put the lightsabers down, removing the weapons from the equation. Inwardly she breathed a sigh of relief. It was difficult to tell how far he had fallen, yet the presence of the Darkside surrounding him was evident. Whether or npt he chose to use it was a different story.

Veiere approached them then, and she was still uncertain as to what he would do. The only hope that she had was the fact that she knew that he could never harm her. Their bond was too strong. As soon as he mentioned the cuffs she unhid them from behind her back while her other hand reached up to be placed on his cheek. Her eyes searched his. "The cuffs are needed, if not solely for appearances sake. They'll be removed after we've gone inside the Palace." Kay removed her hand from his cheek and began placing the cuffs on his wrist."If our roles were reversed, you'd be doing the same as me. I know you well enough to understand that. We're not...We can't be above the law." No doubt he would take issues with her statement, but now was not the time.

She turned on her heel, signalling to [member="Macoda Haberon"] , [member="Darlyn Excron"] and [member="Einon"] that it was time to go. Once she got outside she could see the other men eyeing them all carefully as though they had expected trouble. Kay walked into the speeder and took her seat, all the while opening up her mind to her husband so that he may hear her privately. ~This won't be for long. We could set up a trial, something for the people to see so that they know that you're being held to account for what happened. I hope ...that in time you'll forgive me.~

It was one thing to be issued an arrest warrant by his very wife accompanied by armed personnel as though he were some sort of common criminal, a thug to be muzzled, yet to counter his disregard of the cuffs and argue their use, Veiere's head tilted forward some, though his eyes remained upon [member="Lady Kay"]'s in disbelief. Just how far gone did she think he was, that he might act out against she herself in some form of violence...It was insulting and quite frankly made him doubt the trust that lay between them. Acting in authority and responsibility that was hers by position over the Systems Alliance was understandable, yet to feel the need to have him restrained...

"[member="Einon"]..." Veiere responded somewhat under his breath with an undertone of frustration to the man flanking his side, the pair of hand-cuff's being plucked from his wife's hands by pull of the Force and brought to heel before the younger man while Veiere turned to put his back to Einon and placed his hands behind his back, his eyes still looking upon Kay though now with a hint of anger over the situation. He had thought hard about what scenario's might come about following his visit back home to Kay and his family. Fortunately the Children weren't here to witness this. He had remained, knowing and expecting some form of response along these lines yet what he had just received wasn't a statement of law and consequence but of love and distrust.

The Dark Side of the Force, they all looked at Veiere as though he had become crazed by it and yet his love and loyalty to his wife, his family and his home-world had not changed at all. They all expected the worst of him and yet here he stood willingly giving himself up though it frustrated him and he had the power to make it a damn hard show otherwise; this sudden resentment towards him and the need to guard themselves only further justified his view of the Force, the alignment and supposed two sides for which the Jedi had exaggerated and left the galaxy believing as though anything less than the light was deemed insane and ought to be punished by incarceration or death...-His wife may have been forced by his actions, yet her need to see him restrained said so much more than this...

Kay could feel the anger coming from [member="Veiere Arenais"] so much so that it made the hairs on the back of her neck go up. She had seen that look in his eyes before, and that was when he had confronted her about Yutan. Never again did she want to have to see it, and yet here it was. She wanted to explain herself, yet he wasn't answering her. In fact, Veiere was hardly speaking at all.

She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly as everyone got into the shuttle, her jaw clenched as she tried to keep her emotions under control. Kay only needed to wait until they got to the Palace. That was all. After that she could just let go of her restraint.

The journey back was a quiet one. Kay swallowed a lump in her throat every now and then. This whole situation was heartbreaking and she wasn't sure of how she'd recover. At this moment she needed to keep her composure though that was extremely difficult due to the weight of her husband's gaze. Now she knew some of how others had felt when she had fallen. Some day she hoped to help him as he had done with her.

Once at the Palace, the shuttle was brought to the hanger. Kay remained seated while most left the shuttle. "Give me a minute with my husband, please. Alone." She got to her feet and approached him, her eyes holding his gaze while the others left. It wasn't until she was sure that there was no one else on board that she spoke. "I'm sorry, Veiere. This isn't what I had wanted. Yet it needed to be done or their could be a revolt. They trusted you and you broke it. They needed to see that there was nothing to fear and that I was seeing that justice would be served. You will regain your freedom but until then...well, I hope that you can get comfortable at least. And whether you want me to or not, I will be there to see you every day." She owed him that much at least. She owed him for a lot of things. Her worst fear was to lose him and she only blamed herself and her busy schedule for his fall. Guilt was something that she carried easily.

"Are you ready?"

"Give me a minute with my husband, please. Alone".

The journey towards Chasin City was not a long one, their estate sat atop the Eldritch mountains for which overlooked the great capital and her surrounding plains; yet the silence within the transport's cargo and personnel hold was eerily deafening to all else but Veiere's awareness of the situation he and his wife [member="Lady Kay"] were in. It was only once they had landed upon the docking bay of the great Palace Grounds, that his wife sought to speak with him in private, dismissing the others against their evidently questioning glances reminding Veiere that he wasn't trusted here anymore.

"....-They trusted you and you broke it." words catching his attention most strongly than all else that she said to him, Veiere's gaze turning up to meet his wife's in calm and reflective argument, "I took action against the Jedi Order, not the Systems Alliance..." his stance and belief there had not changed despite the fact that Deneba had been taken in under the care of Commenor, during a time which he had been King and had thus known well before his decision to strike at the Enclave.

"You will regain your freedom but until then...well, I hope that you can get comfortable at least" the words offered little comfort, his time in imprisonment would not likely pass quickly and she knew well what he was capable as a Force Practitioner, there would be obvious restrictions and care taken in the creation of this prison that he was to be brought into. Would he be sharing a facility with other criminals? If so, how many of them had he himself put there over the years of protecting Commenor's interests...-At least the abundance of time would also mean an abundance of personal training and introspection within the Force. Over however many years he was meant to serve, for whatever he would be convicted of, at-least his strength in the Force could be maintained through his own personal efforts.

"There are some out there that will not look kindly upon my incarceration...-I don't suggest you make this too much of a public interest, Kay..." In this he was being genuinely considerate towards her, he had amounted a size-able fleet back on Rannon and while he hoped they would stay put, he didn't want to see any further harm nor tension come upon her for what this ordeal was doing to them.

"...What will you tell the Children?".

Kay sighed at his words. "You took action against a world and people within the Systems Alliance that was under our protection. Had you have gone off and done this in their own territory, it'd be different. But people see this as the former King rebelling against his own people. That is what they have a problem with..."

She clenched her jaw as [member="Veiere Arenais"] mentioned others not liking his imprisonment. She knew who he had meant; his followers and perhaps others that were loyal to him. Would they try to go after her? More than likely not. Veiere wouldn't allow that. It was more probable that they would try to find him and break him out. "The people have to know, otherwise I'll be accused of sweeping it under the rug. There will be a trial. Though I'll try to be sure that it isn't public." Finding an impartial judge wouldn't be easy either.

Now what would she tell their children? That was a good question. And right now she didn't have an answer. "I don't know what I'll tell them. But I'd want to do so in person. However neither of them are in our territory. But they'll be told..." Whether or not any of them would be visiting Veiere in his cell was another story.

"And to think, once upon a time you were angry with me for sending our Son away".

The tone of his voice held some faint amusement behind it though the humor was dry and only truly emphasized their situation. It was a good thing that neither [member="Loreena Arenais"] nor Caedyn were there to witness what had become of their Father, and now what ends he was meeting at the hands of their Mother. "I grow tired of this argument, Kay...-You chose to remain outside of the politics of the Force. I accept that Deneba falls under Commenori Providence, yet I do not regret my actions" he informed her, his expression not in any sense hostile yet as though there were a weight hanging over him, the truth in his words pulling him down deeper into the darkness of his mind. They Jedi, the supposed keepers of the peace and protectors of the light...-After a life time of service, the share thought of them was enough to twist the knife within his back and wound him deeper.

"Do whatever you have to do" He concluded, waving his left hand dismissively, though they were still cuffed and unable to move freely without pulling his right; the metal shackles clanked audibly as if to remind him of his chains and yet he had noticed that she had neglected to force upon him the restraints that would usually be fit for a Force-User. Whether that was by pure ignorance or evidence that she still trusted him some, he could not decide. Regardless, though he could break them, he remained compliant.

"Shall we get on with this charade then...-Or are you waiting for one last kiss before you convict me of treason?" he chuckled darkly under his breath, soon shaking his head to himself and looking back towards the exit to the transport for which her men had left; almost as if begging for this ordeal to move on faster than it were. Being before her alone, shackled as he were...Frankly, it was embarrassing.

Kay smirked. "I still don't like the fact that we're all seperated. We should be together. But I understand that this is all for the better for them." Again. Hopefully she never loses contact with them like she did with [member="Bradshaw Ku"] and [member="Rae-Anna Ku"] . Just as in the past, she was left at home. But that was mostly her fault. She had responsibilities here that she couldn't drop.

And then she frowned a little at his next words. It was almost as though he was implying that what had happened was partly her fault because she wasn't a part of the conflict. When she spoke to [member="Veiere Arenais"] her tone was soft and even. "I chose to stay out of it because I had no voice. I was arrested and nearly executed by a Jedi Master because I was in politics. I have a voice now. It might not be very loud, but I've been able to do more good in this arena than anywhere else." Kay sighed. "You may not regret your actions. But I do. And just like I've been working to make up for my past mistakes, I must do the same for yours."

Of course she had wanted a kiss or a hug; something. But instead she got indifference. If that was the way that it was going to be, then that was the way that it was going to be. Kay stepped over to him and just wrapped her arms around him anyways. "I still love you, Veiere. Regardless of all of this. I'll try to see that your stay is as short as possible."

Then she let him go and hooked her arm in his as she led him out of the transport and into the presence of the awaiting guards. Maybe it was partially to keep him from running, but also as a show of support. [member="Einon"] was nowhere to be seen, but Kay figured that she knew where he was. She led Veiere to the lift and once they were inside, she hit the button for the lower levels. The ride lasted just seconds before the doors were reopened. Already in view was Veiere's specialized cell. It had been made especially for him, reinforced with Force shielding often used by bounty hunters to cage Force Users. Guards were placed on every corner of the darkened room. Kay led her husband toward his cell where one of the guards removed his cuffs. "Thank you, Veiere. I'll....see you again soon." She didn't know what else to say. But she chose to remain until she was sure that he was safely inside. Afterall she wanted to be sure that no harm came to him.

Being hugged by his wife was most always one of the greater feelings in life, being able to wrap his arms around her in the knowing that she was his and he was hers; today however that did not ring true all the same. Where [member="Lady Kay"] wrapped her arms around his shoulders, Veiere remained seated with his hands cuffed in front of him, his head down while she stood leaning over him and whispering her continued love for him, somehow not having lost all hope for their marriage if her words were anything to go by.

"And I, you" Veiere replied beneath her, his head down while her hold covered him, the light of all else being drowned out for a time as she enveloped him and for a moment, encouraged a small smile to his lips. It would shortly thereafter be eclipsed however as his wife was forced to move, to return to the purpose of why they were here together in the first place. Rising to their feet, she took his arm in his which...-Came as something of a surprise as she was willing to be seen standing arm in arm with an accused traitor of the Systems Alliance, Veiere quickly pulled his arm away, turning to give her a look in objection, shaking his head though his eyes were gentle; "You cannot show weakness" he told her before stepping forward to be the first to leave the shuttle and be led out into the light of the open air. Though she might be hurt by the sentiment, it would be clear that Veiere was looking out for her political interests in the moment, soon to be flanked by her security personnel whom would allow their Queen to then take the front of their entourage towards Veiere's designated holding Cell.

In order to get there, it seemed they would be forced to move through the Royal Palace of Chasin City. Not at all the typical location for a criminal to be held, all the while his eyes followed Kay, a frown to give evidence to his surprise and skepticism for the location they were moving through. The Heart of the Systems Alliance, a place where he knew like the back of his hand, he had spent years moving throughout the Palace, governing worlds alongside their Queen, so why choose a place that he was so intimately familiar with...

Being led further down via one of the Palace's turbo-lifts they seemed to be entering into the underground facilities of the complex, much of what had been used as alternative routes out of the palace in the case that the planet would come under attack having been once under the rule of the One Sith Empire. Had there always been holding facilities down here? Not that he could recall and yet within but a moment, he would soon be enlightened to the newly constructed prison that would be his.

"...-You've been busy" Veiere commented as he was forced to step towards the entrance of the cell, his cuff's being removed from his hands, his gaze turning to glance back to Kay repeating the same words she'd spoken to him when he had first shown her their new Estate within the Eldritch Mountains. Of course...-This was no typical holding Cell, he could already notice the void surrounding the walls and entrance to the prison, the force that it simply could not penetrate through. Thankfully while escape was unlikely, inside the Cell he would be able to further his training, s'long as there were oxygen to breath, the Force would remain with him.

Cannot show weakness. Even now [member="Veiere Arenais"] was looking out for her. He was a born leader, reluctant as he may be. Just as the Force never let her stray from a life of politics, so too would it not allow him from straying from a leadership role. And she admired the strength that such a path had given him.

Veiere was confused, maybe even disappointed in where she was taking him. But she had methods to her madness, reasonings for placing him where she did. They may not be obvious to him now, but they will be.

She smirked a little as he remarked with the same line that she had used at the Estate. But that smirk soon fell the moment that he stepped inside his cell. The Force shield severed their connection in such a way that she couldn't sense him anymore. It was a strange feeling, almost as if she was severed from the Force herself. She toyed with the rings on her finger, as if the very act would be able to push her thoughts to him.

But it didn't work.

With a slight lowering of her head, and with Veiere safely secured, Kay turned on her heel and exited to the lift. The first step was over. And the worst was yet to come.
