The Podrace

THE RACE

A long, sprawling desert.

A barely brushed road.

A coliseum, thousands of feet high.

The screams of a hundred thousand peoples.

This is what Podracers live for.

They were still on Luminoss. The racers, companies and factions had gathered on the track, just due west of it. The celebrations were just beginning before the crowd, each franchise showing off their flag colors and marching them in front of the pods. The crowd was loud, though still slowly forming. People were coming in from all over and taking their seats.

A large holoscreen stood opposite the main dais and the coliseum's seats. A large gate was now opening, revealing the rest of the track that led into the wilds of the artificial planet Luminoss.

The crowd erupted.

Tefka had appeared on the main dais, waving to everyone and taking his seat. It was weird - he was a small alien now, no longer the large lobster he had portrayed in the Festival. Was he a shapeshifter, or was this some sort of trick? It seemed silly, but Tefka didn't offer the usual loud entrance this time.

He merely sat and awaited the racers to all find their marks as the parade across the track continued.

Podracing

1. There will only be one podrace.

2. Podracers will start the race in their own thread, but the presiding Podracing Judges will take them through the course that goes through all other event threads.

3. There can be a maximum of 2 Podracers per team.

4. Podracers will have to deal with several complications along their way, including devastating obstacles the Judges will place in their path as well as each other - and the other events they race through. (Watch out for them 'wrastlin exogorths!)

5. Pilots can be subbed in and out from the team if activity problems arise, but the vehicle must be submitted prior to the event.* Change: The vehicle may be subbed after and just handwaved in.

6. Only the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will be awarded medals.

7. All bets are off. Once you're on the track, everything is game.*

*Force Powers will be inhibited throughout the course of the track.

There'd been times, many times, when Jorus practiced navigation and flight with a chunk of void stone beside him. He'd flown in the atmosphere of Myrkr and through the Force-null bubble of a Mircin prison ship. He'd done all that to prepare himself for the bowel-loosening nervousness of moments like these: a full track, life and death at stake, without the Force to guide him as it always did. On the other hand, though, there was a certain honesty to flying like this, a purity. With the Force, he could match any pilot or navigator around. Without it...well, time to see what he was actually made of, all on his own.

When he hit the pedal, as soon as the light went green, the sleek little duraplast podracer would accelerate viciously and ram him back against his shock couch. He'd installed inertial dampeners, but they would only trigger in the event of a crash: they would nothing to keep him from just about graying out in those first seconds. Adrenaline trickled into his system; that would turn into a flood once the race got started.

He focused on his team flag, a stylized reddish-brown dinko on a silver background. That was Mara out there waving that flag, he realized, and a slow grin spread over his face. She hadn't talked much with him since he and her mother had wound up young, younger than her. But there she was, his grown-up trillionaire daughter, waving a flag on a dusty track along with the rest of the parade.

Feth this was cool, Bryce thought has he repaired for his first race. Climbing down from one of his two massive tramp Freighter engines turned death traps, he was sure to slap R5-GR on the head for luck. The plucky astromech spouted something about Bryce being karking crazy to attempt this in binary but the twenty something young man just smiled and replied, "Only live once little buddy."

He began to hear cat calls as his flag barrer came out on to the track. Holding a Blue and grey flag with Gallofree's corporate logo stitched on the cloth he was sure very few were looking at it. Most were probably marveling at he pink skinned beauty that held it. Bryce smiled and waved to one of his Deadly Dozen as she passed and took the time to blow him a flirty kiss.

"Who is that new one?" Bryce asked as he grabbed his helm from Layla.

"Don't you worry about her, just be sure you keep your head on straight and come back here in one piece."

"Come on Layla, its' me. I got this..."

The First Order spectators present on the circuit for the race recognized what would be their darling for the time being. But then again, she expected to be forgotten, except by the diehard podracing fans in First Order space: she only finished one race on Lanteeb. Granted, it was a historically significant victory from the standpoint of First Order podracing: before there was a Lanteeb Grand Prix in the first place, First Orderers wishing to take part in podraces had to go outside of First Order space for their sport. That being said, Virginie, with a First Order flag, and also Dunames, wearing the black flight suit of TIE fighter pilots (but devoid of any First Order crests) as given to her after Thakwaa. The Polydroxol would be treated by one last comfort call while the parade was underway. She knew that this race was much more like the race she ran on Lanteeb than the Commenor and Mindabaal ones. With the old FWHB-10s being replaced for medium machineguns, the vehicle might be a little lighter, but she lost in firepower. Although she never ran one of those races where weapons loadouts actually mattered before, this one was one of those. So she would be in for would be most likely a two-dimensional dogfight.

"Courage, courage for our friends"

"Don't worry about me. I know, based on what I experienced on Lanteeb, that podraces can be hazardous: in comparison, Commenor and Mindabaal were pretty tame"

Benedict mind cleared of all thoughts and focused only on the race that lay before him. Today is the day, I'll make my team proud. He'd barely registered for the race and was slightly late getting to the track. His podracer had no real name, as it was completely custom. It's all white paint job was specifically designed to blind those that came into view of him. A sassy Twi'lek stepped out in front of Ben's podracer holding an all white flag, meant to signify his racer. It's show time. The engines roared to life and all systems were a go. Sunglasses were placed over his eyes to prevent him from being blinded by his own racer. Benedict raced off to catch up to the others.

(ooc: sorry for being late to this, got confused with the rules and how it was supposed to go.)
