Corporate Description
The Corporate practices and operations of The Order of Master Shipwrights have changed over the years. At the outset of its founding, The Order of Master Shipwrights was well known as a bully, often forcing even the smallest operation to join the Guild and forcing Shipwrights of all avenues to have a Guild Membership in order to operate on Selun. With its near destruction during the Gulag Plague and the Guild Wars that followed, it was ravaged and much of its membership lost or dead. It has since become a more even-tempered organization, fostering competition in the market between smaller shipwrights whilst still maintaining a near monopoly on Government Contracts to prevent any one corporation from outpacing itself; its continued survival is thanks to its new-found loyalty to the Ruling Council of Selun, which has largely remained hands-off with the Guild despite its Semi-Nationalized status.
Rationale
Established circa 450BBY - 350BBY, The Order of Master Shipwrights was one of the first Guilds established on the Moon of Selun, though never gained widespread or galactic notoriety compared to such names as the Trade Federation, Kuat Drive Yards, or even the Corellian Engineering Corporation. It maintained a steady level of growth in the early years of its founding and plateaued circa 250BBY as it established itself as the premier and primary Starship Manufacture for the Moon of Selun. Without true competition in the marketplace - at least in its little corner of the Galaxy - and not seeking to expand further beyond the lucrative contracts that it maintained from the various Guilds and Merchant Houses that governed Selun, the corporation required little in the way of expansion.
Facing a near-total collapse during the Gulag Plague and "Guild Wars" that ravaged what remained of Selun; The Order of Master Shipwrights limped out of the ashes and stood as one of the few Guilds to remain operational on Selun. The newly established Ruling Council of the Moon of Selun has seen the promise and the need for a corporation to manufacture Starships and has Semi-Nationalized the Order of Master Shipwrights to maintain some semblance of control over the Guild whilst also permitting limited autonomy provided the Guild's actions do not counter or interfere with the activities of the Ruling Council of Selun.
Renewed efforts at rebuilding and reconstructing the Trade Network that Selun had once sat at the center of have seen an influx of contracts as the Ruling Council attempts to rebuild Selun's Naval Forces.
