Iriana Vael
Character
- Intent: To establish a decentralized Force tradition centered around locating, protecting, and guiding “Lost Jedi” across the galaxy, providing story hooks for rescue missions, moral conflict, Shadow operations, and Force-sensitive discovery threads. The Lantern Path serves as both a narrative tool for character development and a faction-adjacent network that can interact with Jedi, Sith, and independent Force users alike.

- Tradition Name: The Lantern Path
- Tradition Type: Decentralized / Wandering
- Tradition Focus: Spiritual / Sensory / Intellectual
- Influence: Interplanetary
- Orientation: Light-leaning (with pragmatic flexibility)
- Influence Area: Outer Rim, Mid Rim, and fringe systems where Force-sensitives are likely to be overlooked, displaced, or lost
- Symbol: A stylized lantern at the center of the symbol of the Jedi Order. The lantern represents guidance rather than authority—illumination without domination.
- Description: The Lantern Path is an informal network of Lightsided Force-sensitives dedicated to seeking out those lost to the margins of the galaxy—forgotten Jedi, untrained Force-sensitives, survivors of fallen enclaves, and those who have strayed dangerously close to darkness.
Rather than enforcing doctrine, the Path acts as a guiding presence. Its members believe that no light in the Force is ever truly extinguished—only obscured, buried, or abandoned. They operate quietly, often beyond the awareness or approval of larger Force institutions, moving between systems to investigate rumors, recover individuals, and offer guidance where none remains.
- Membership: Membership is neither formal nor centralized. Individuals are typically encountered and recruited through personal interaction rather than ceremony.
Common paths to joining include:- Being located and aided by a Lantern Path member
- Former Jedi or Force-sensitives choosing to assist in future searches
- Individuals proving their intent through action rather than oath
- Motives:
- Locate and protect lost or untrained Force-sensitives
- Recover Jedi who have gone missing, fallen into isolation, or been abandoned
- Prevent unnecessary descent into the dark side through intervention
- Preserve the living legacy of the Jedi beyond institutional boundaries
- Rules and Teachings: Core teachings are simple and often passed orally:
- “No light is truly lost.”
- “Seek without judgment.”
- “Guide, do not command.”
- “Intervene before darkness takes root.”
- Reputation: Among Jedi circles, the Lantern Path is largely unknown or regarded as a fringe offshoot of wandering Shadows. Some view it as compassionate but misguided, particularly due to its willingness to engage with individuals considered “lost causes.”
Among independent Force-sensitives, it is often regarded as a quiet lifeline—something whispered about rather than formally known. - Openness: Low to moderate.
The Lantern Path does not publicly declare itself but is not strictly secretive. Members reveal themselves selectively, often only when trust is established or intervention is necessary.
- Characteristic Equipment:
- Standard or modified lightsabers (often carried discreetly)
- Sensor-masked vessels or long-range courier ships
- Personal archives, holocrons, or recovered Jedi records
- Simple tokens or insignia bearing the lantern symbol
- Survival gear suited for long-term independent travel
- Notable Force Skills:
- Force Empathy (detecting emotional distress and instability)
- Force Sense (locating hidden or untrained Force-sensitives)
- Force Concealment (operating without detection)
- Psychometry (in some members, used to trace individuals through objects)
- Meditation and emotional stabilization techniques
- Limited investigative rituals or focus practices rather than formal ceremonies
- Notable Force Limitations:
- Limited emphasis on large-scale combat or battlefield tactics
- Avoidance of aggressive or destructive Force abilities
- Inconsistent training across members due to decentralized structure
- Lack of unified doctrine can lead to differing interpretations of intervention

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Lantern Path emerged not from doctrine, but from loss.
Its founder, Jedi Master Iriana Vael, began her career within the New Jedi Order as a Consular, specializing in diplomacy and recovery of lost knowledge. During her time as a Knight, she took a Padawan—Uvara Nyshara—who would be lost during an ambush by a rogue Nightsister coven.
Despite her efforts to recover her Padawan, Iriana was instructed by the Order to abandon the search, the situation deemed irrecoverable.
Though she obeyed outwardly, the experience reshaped her path entirely. She turned toward the disciplines of a Jedi Shadow, dedicating herself to investigation, recovery, and the pursuit of those who had fallen beyond the reach of the Order.
Over time, her work revealed a pattern: the galaxy was filled with individuals the Jedi had simply stopped looking for.
Upon achieving the rank of Master, Iriana departed the Order on indefinite leave and began forming quiet connections with others who shared her perspective. These individuals—former Jedi, wanderers, survivors—became the first walkers of what would come to be known as the Lantern Path.
Now spread loosely across multiple systems, the Path continues its work in silence—following faint echoes in the Force, searching in places others have already abandoned, and carrying a simple belief: If someone is still out there… they are worth finding.
