OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To finally after nearly 10 years to set Tygara in order with a proper map, description and placement of features.
  • Image Credit: Map made by me! Scale is 100km to a hex, though there is some variation with smaller objects. Bigger version here.
Key:
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Of Emerald, Sapphire & Gold; a Gazetteer of the Lands and Features of Tygara. However, it is more commonly called 'The Lands and Features of Tygara' to connect it her previous work, but also because it's a lot less florid!
  • Format: Normally holobook, though a sizeable run of print copies was created for distribution on Tygara.
  • Distribution: Scattered. Mostly on Tygara, but also sold where wanted by those interested in exploration.
  • Length: Long. As with any good atlas this work is detailed both in landforms, people and history.
  • Description: Lands and Features (as it is shortened to) is a combination of atlas, gazetteer, historical work and list of curiosities. Its main goal is the educate those in the galaxy interested in this unique planet.
A second, but just as important function is to give people on Tygara access to information about their own world so it can expand from there.

Phylis encourages people to visit Tygara when possible, but to do so with 'an open mind and humble heart'. The recent war between Firemane and the people of Tygara has certainly affected this invitation. However, the Jedi Master hopes that once the planet is free, outsiders will be allowed to return to enjoy the planet in a more sustainable way than previously.

Of crucial importance though, Phylis does not reveal the actual true origins of the Asuran peoples; that they were created through the experimentation of the Rakata. This information is known to very few people at all, and though the leaders of the Vash, Xio and Eldorai are aware of it their subjects are almost entirely unaware. Phylis wrestled with this decision for some time before consulting Lady Tylania, the spiritual leader of the Vashyada, herself the progenitor of her species. Tylania advised the Jedi that the time was not right, and that the revelation would not only cause great turmoil but bring about a tremendous breaking of religious beliefs. Phylis reluctantly agreed and stuck with the strictly conventional historical facts.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: Phylis Alince, with the assistance of dozens of contributors, works and interviews with Tygaran natives and immigrants. It also pulls together ancient documents where available to provide historical documentation.
  • Publisher: Radiant Light Alkahest Emporium
  • Reception: Lands and Features contains by far the most extensive work done by anyone on Tygara. As a result of this, and over a decade of personal investigations, Lands and Features has been almost universally praised for its thorough, fair and detailed coverage.
There has been some concern or even uproar about the historical details of the work, specifically the unpicking of legend and fact. Some feel this is offensive or does not properly understand the religious beliefs of the Tygarans.
FORMAT INFORMATION
Much like her work on Tephrike, the print version is a heavy, large format book capable of resisting wear and tear. It also includes a large, detachable map of the planet. One side shows the physical map, the other side the political.

The electronic version is the preferred version as it features larger and more detailed maps as well as indexing and in-volume glossary. It also is periodically updated and revised as new information comes in.
Both versions contain the appendix listing certain important persons and events.

CONTENT INFORMATION
As it is a work of history, geography and sociology, the work is laid out in sections.

A prologue introduces the planet of Tygara, gives a timeline and brief overview of the current situation.

Section 1 covers the landforms of Tygara. The vast continent of Zhukathis, joined with the continent of Khajwar, forms the great equatorial landmass. Zhukathis is also called by some Amikaron, but since that is a political entity, Phylis went with the purely geographic name, to the annoyance of some more avid Amikarese partisans.
This work also describes Ajustra, the north eastern continent where the Eldorai settled, Yarkul where most Vash live, and the icy northlands where the Xio and the Zaldrani live.
Tygara is a tropical world, and as such has great equatorial jungles, deserts and hot scrublands. However, it also features more temperate lands and vast oceans.

Section 2 covers the history of Tygara, from ancient times to the most recent. A special section is reserved for the more recent history when outsiders arrived, along with the Eldorai fleeing their broken homeworld.

Sections 3, 4 & 5 cover the Qadiri, Vashyada and Xioquo in turn, giving information on their culture, extent, a detailed history and lists of important leaders as needed.

Section 6 discusses the Eldorai and Kar'zun, giving a brief history of them before their arrival, before discussing their current areas.

Section 7 covers many of the strangest, most remarkable and most curious locations, events and objects on the planet. Chief amongst these is the Black Pyramid, an ancient Rakata vessel, along with many other places.

Section 8 brings everything together to discuss the current situation of Tygara, its challenges and opportunities.

A final epilogue concludes with a message from Phylis to the reader about the importance of understanding, patience and opportunities.

An appendix and index link all the mentioned items together.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Phylis Alince; Jedi Master, researcher and general academic, has long has a fascination with Tygara, its people and cultures. The Jedi Master was one of the very first outsiders to visit the planet to explore and study it, rather than raid or otherwise try to manipulate it. This started a long journey now lasting almost twenty years where she has started to treat it as a home rather than distant and crisis-torn Naboo. Phylis now speaks all three of the main native languages fluently, and already knew Eldorai, and has accessed as many archives and libraries as she could.

The intention for her was always to write a work on the planet, but such a monumental effort would take time to research, process and finally publish. After ten years of solid research, collecting data and processing it she was finally happy with the work she produced. There is always more to learn, and she plans to do yearly updates to the holobook versions and regular free errata and edition updates to the paper works as needed.
