Description

History: One of the first Alor-Class ships to be designed and ordered after the initial announcement and launch of the highly coveted warship by Mandal Hypernautics, The Katyadr was designed as House Skirata's flagship vessel. Designed to support and act as a mobile invasion force it strove to replace the Mythosaur-class carrier after it was lost to the stars. Serving in the opening years of the war against the One Sith, for a time it served as the Mandalorian Clan's main flagship as it was Gilamar Skirata's flagship, the Mand'alor of the Mandalorian people. It saw battle in several skirmishes and supported large scale invasions throughout the war with the One Sith but was put on reserve after Gilamar's assumed death.

After his return the renamed Skirata'yaim saw service in reclaiming lost Mandalorian territories. However after Mia Monroe and company decimated Mandalore's surface the ship became one of the few Alor-class ships to make it off world with hundreds of thousands of refugees. During this time Gilamar was critically injured and kept on board the Skirata'yaim in its med bay while another led the remnants of House Skirata and its refugees through old Mandalorian space before settling in Galactic Alliance space. However when Civil War came to Mandalore and Gil was secretly imprisoned by a political rival, the ship took the name Tyatr Shukala and was put back into service with some slight modification.

However once it was found that Gilamar Skirata was indeed still alive, those loyal to him split from House Skirata, mutinying against the captain and fled to the Outer Rim Coalition with Gilamar in tow. Once there the ship began to take on less of a combat role and instead shifted into a mobile colony. Much of the missiles, weapons, and original storage space towards the front and beneath the ship was gutted and converted into docking bay and starship service area, overseen by a hangar traffic control suite protected by overlapping shields and magnetic containment fields to keep oxygen and pressure regulated. It also traded much of its original cargo space for living quarters, but on a ship as large as it was, this only limited the amount of storable consumables by a few years which was an acceptable trade considering how many friendly ports were in jump range of the ship at any one time.

Military Design: The Alor-class was at the end of the day, built to be a dedicated war ship, and little changed when Gilamar and the Wretched Hive moved in to convert the ship into a livable space. Armor plated with Mandalorian Steel with a tank ceramic covered alusteel hull, the Alor is a tough nut to crack, and that was before the redundant shields. Weapons and point defense systems litter the top of the ship, protecting the internal bridge. A compartmentalized design helps keep systems running throughout the ship even when under heavy stress or serious damage to the ship and light internal defenses keep would be intruders wary (as if a ship full of Mandalorians wasn't enough to make them wary).

As far as weapons go, to save on storage space, many of the ship's weapon emplacements were replaced with turbolasers, decreasing the weapons' effective range, but keeping the floors free for settlement, though much of the ship's point defense system is still dominated by Flak and missiles still play a large role in the ship's offense. This does keep the ship from keeping up in fire rate when pitted against similarly sized ships, but it also makes it incredibly deadly at close ranges.

The ship's hangars and launch tubes provide ample space for the ship's 5 squadrons of fighters and gunships to launch and be received. However, unlike the standard version of the Alor-class, the nacelle hangars on The Ketyadr continuously stay open and extended to allow for free travel of Mandalorians in and out of the ship. Only under extreme circumstances are the hangars shut, allowing exclusively for ship launch through the launch tubes.

Because of this size, this colony ship can only be affiliated (owned) by a major faction (the Outer Rim Coalition). It's an OOC rule, though I can understand that in-character, it would only make sense for Gilamar to "own" or "captain" it.

To clarify, this can actually only hold 5 squadrons of actual combat craft? (the remaining 16 squadrons are used to house the corvette & a medium cruiser?)

[member="Gir Quee"] You are indeed correct. 5 actual squadrons, the rest are taken up by the Corvette/Cruiser storage space. Will make the affiliation update in the morning.

This is doable. Is there a certain corvette or cruiser that you're planning for this to hold? If so, could you link these in here though? Alternatively, could you give us some dimensions of the maximum size corvette & cruiser that this could hold?

[member="Gir Quee"] There wasn't but I've gone and edited out Gil's name in the Affiliation section and added a minimum and maximum length along with maximum heights and widths the bay can support as well as specified the general hangar composition.

The corvette shouldn't be an issue. I do need to think more about the cruiser though.

In-character terms, this cruiser is is pretty massive for a carried craft (almost a third of the length of the cruiser). Again, doable, but something that I think merits more mention in the description itself, given that it's highly unusual.

Out of character, for gameplay balances, I'm not quite comfortable with this as it currently stands. By having a large warship housed in the hangar, this cruiser would essentially bypass the typical fleet length size limits that most people use. While I can easily see trading a squadron or two for a corvette, this is much difficult for a carried warship as it gets proportionally larger. I would agree that usually, a trade of 14-15 squadrons for a typical medium cruiser is quite fair (given that the medium cruiser can also bring its own fighters) in terms of combat ability. But this could become problematic and unbalancing if the carried medium cruiser is an exceptionally powerful and/or unique vessel.

Because of that, I'd like to either see a specific cruiser-type (or several types) that this vessel can carry explicitly within the submission itself. Alternatively, we could keep the model of vessel completely wide open, but reduce its size to under five hundred meters (a large frigate). With this second option, you could probably add a few squadrons of starfighters back to the hangar count.

The point of subbing this was to create a ship sub for the forthcoming location ship sub as the home of clan Skirata, not a ship intended for PvP. While there is always the possibility of PvP it would never be as the aggressor with this ship. The bay is mainly there to dock guests or repair ships in the Skirata migratory fleet, not to carry a cruiser full of starfighters into battle, if that were the case I would have just used all 21 squadrons

[member="Gilamar Skirata"], as a judge, I have to consider loopholes and how things can (potentially) be abused in competitive situations. We've got a couple of options to potentially address this.

Another option would be to make the carried ship a "civilian" or "non-combative ship". Alternatively, we could add an OOC disclaimer within the submission itself saying that the carried cruiser would have to count towards the normal fleeting limit.

If you can think of a different way to address that potential problem area in the submission itself, I'm all ears.

Added the OOC note about attached ship counting towards fleet limits if there is one and also edited the intent to remove the part about it being a support ship for the Outer Rim Coalition, emphasizing it as a place to live rather than a war ship.
