Level 2 - Security Checkpoint

Descending the main elevator shaft, a thin metal tube which shot downward, the joint Galtech Firemane facilities on Etti IV were impressive, there was no other way of saying it. Nayus was an engineer at heart and when he’d turned his hand to really putting this place together, the attention to detail was meticulous. The reinforced Quadranium Alloy walls which were strong no doubt, but were not the impressive bit, it was the conductive tanks of Pyronium that were the impressive bit, able to store energy shots from orbit to power its own shield. Although it had developed the unfortunate nickname, the steel can, Fyor considered the ribbing and jokes about being inside one giant tank a compliment. Not only that but firemane’s scouts had scouted for a site, and the ground above was largely Hijarna stone , and subsequently just tough to penetrate with orbital fire no doubt about it. If you wanted to breach this facility, it was down one of three elevators, one for tanks, two for people, that or a very, very long siege.

Level 7 - Tank Elevator Shaft

All this security was not without reason, it had been a big investment by firemane, and taken all of Galtech's remaining funds, an investment which would reap big rewards. The project codenamed incline today was no small task, and it was heavily guarded in the R&D sections of the facility, guarded by firemane’s personnel interspaced with what grey uniformed security that Galtech had to offer.

The elevator ride was long and uneventful, the cheery elevator music did little to speed up the journey, because despite the speed of the elevator he had a very long way to travel. One downside of the depth of the facility was the time it took to ship staff back and forth, as a consequence many lived here for weeks or perhaps even months at a time.

OOC Note:
Tagging Firemane to give the okay on the design, the first post’s details might be subject to change if they want it set up differently.

Nuts and Bolts (Dead, PM Writers Account)
Most of the senior staff were assembled below ground, along with one or two observers from Firemane guarding their investment obviously, with spaces for the SJO or LS should anyone wish to benefit from the design. The circular table where they were drawing up the plans was more than a bit cluttered! Blueprints and devices scattered around everywhere.

Staff List:
Operations Director: Nora Roberts
Project Manger: Adriav Pax | Project Manager: Tuyor Nayus
Chief of Security: Nile Silero
Chief Technician : Avadrie Quadrix
Chief Scientist : Veega Eclissu
Sales Director : Anya Longstar
Senior Technicians: Sere Reen | Others
Senior Scientists: Melsk Thraus | Others

Working around the small lab, the two main techs that were personal responsible for the building of the incline system were here also. A fox like Amaran, a snake-bodied Sluissi named Sere Reen, and two human scientists who seemed to be doing the grunt work, the most active by far. All had grey uniforms of Galtech mixed with badges of firemane indicating their dual employers. One stone faced man named Melsk Thraus had his head buried in his technical readouts, his crystal blue eyes were hard at work, resenting the chatter.

What it was down here, was tense pressured deadline work, and all the staff were on edge, because this investment could go bottoms up if things didn't pan out.

“So how exactly do you plan to overcome the dual field convergence?” Avadrie, the one practically responsible for putting together this… well if it worked a hell of a system, if it didn’t a huge wasted amount of capital.

“We don’t.” Veega Eclissu said bluntly.

“That’ll cause an overload.” Avadrie stated equally bluntly.

Fyor walked in to the techs and scientists bickering over what was practical and theoretically possible, as he often did, “a grand welcome to you all, today is an illustrious day if there ever was one wouldn’t you say!” His flowery often meandering speeches didn’t exactly get a huge warm welcome, they’d been at this all morning, but one happy Fyor Nayus was better than one vexed or angry boss. At least that was the general consensus among the staff, when he was here and excited about something, and today was a day to be excited about!

Nuts and Bolts (Dead, PM Writers Account)
Through the cluttered office, a few murmurs of agreement came from the scientists toward Fyor, and a shrug or two, but the all business response didn’t unsettle Mr Nayus, his artificial eyes drawing down on the plans in front of him. “So what’s the first technique we are trying on this fine day today?”

So began the consultations, it was a long process without assistance, but then the rewards for the projects completion would lay only with Galtech and Firemane if that was the case. Not that Fyor was a greedy man but he was a practical man and to further his dream of tanks, tanks and more tanks, he’d need a lot of credits!

Attempt One: Microshields

“Microshields,” Melsk thraus said, without any enthusiasm whatsoever, hating the interruption, he was completely focused on the microscope ahead of him, barely taking his eyes away.

“It’ll cause an overload,” the main technician Avadrie repeateded, “bounce two fields together without letting them join, and boom, I’m telling you two hundred is just going to destabilize in seconds.”

“Their strength will be minute individually, too little to cause that but together amplified, when angled should achieve the effect,” Veega said again enthusiastically pointing out the theory behind the design.

“Boom.” Avadrie said, frustrated making a popping sign with her hands, with a sigh.

Fyor wasn’t convinced that shield generators this small would work, he stroked his beard looking over the designs, theoretically possible, but “not the only option we have, ladies and gentlemen, however let’s try to see if we can’t work our magic to stabilize the field.” Clearing the desk away with a flamboyant sweep of his arms. “To begin!”

So their first attempt at the incline project was underway, droids wheeling up a ray shield generator, heat sinks and various other devices scaled to size. It was not uncommon for multiple arrays to be used on starships, but they were always combined into one solid shield, the goal here was to create something entirely different, without it imploding in on itself. Fyor rolled up his sleeves and knelt down, getting his hands dirty, he lived for moments like this!

Nuts and Bolts (Dead, PM Writers Account)
Three hours past assembling the prototype which looked like a turtle, they’d need it to look like an angular piece of metal when they were done, but first things first.

Minute shield generators were an interesting concept, sure he’d seen plenty of people do BIGGER ones, but who had bothered to go the opposite route, well whoever had, he wished he had their input now! The field flickered and cracked, Avadrie putting her hands on her hips aggravated and sniffing even as they worked, to her credit she stayed with it, and did her best, they all did with all the best minds Galtech had on task.

One shield sparked out finally from the pressured interference of the other one, and caused a cascade across all of them, but even so Fyor worked tirelessly ahead of them, the savant engineer in his element to save the current of energy spreading out, and wasting hours work.

He never once blinked, but he did order a glass of Corellian whiskey, what was it with the Ambiguous statement and their old crew’s love of it? That was another story!

“See….”Avadrie threw her hands up, and Fyor simply said “sssh,” deep in his element his force connection was rapidly constructing a brand new design, before the old one had even fully failed.

Slow and uneventful did not even to cover it! For some reason, the elevator was atrociously slow. It made Siobhan seriously consider just tearing through the floor and using telekinesis to fly down because she was certain this would go a hell of a lot faster! The annoyingly cheery music did little to improve her mood. As a matter of fact, it just annoyed her even more.

But, fortunately for the structural integrity of the elevator, she managed to control her temper and so, with nothing better to do, she spent the ride checking her messages on her datapad. Fortunately she could access various magazines she had subscribed to, such as Ashira's Angels. In this case it was the Fiery Pyromancer Special Edition, which improved her mood a bit.

Give or take a few more minutes, and she would hopefully be at the end of her journey. As Vice President of Firemane, she seemed it prudent to check up on Fyor was doing down there. Especially since he and her Nato seemed to be rather close. Sod it, this ride was taking too fething long...
