Strengths:

Fountain of Knowledge: Provides its user with the wealth of knowledge possessed by one of the very first Sith Lords, including valuable insights on Sith sorcery, Sith alchemy, Dark Side abilities such as Dark Side Healing and Force Maelstrom and lightsaber combat focused on Makashi.

Weaknesses:

Light Side - Can be destroyed by a concentrated infusion of the Light Side channeled and focused into the holocron.
Force dependent: You need to be a Force User to utilize it. For anyone else it is simply an inert object.
Worthy successor: The Gatekeeper will not simply divulge its knowledge to any miscreant in possession of the Holocron. It will first evaluate the dedication and potential of the those who call upon its wisdom, and judge whether they are in tune with the values of the Sith and Karness Muur.

DESCRIPTION

Karness Muur was once a respected Knight of the Jedi Order. However, his lust for power caused him to study the nature of the Dark Side. He became one of the Dark Jedi during the Hundred-Year Darkness, alongside XoXaan and Ajunta Pall. Together with the aforementioned individuals, Muur was exiled from the Republic. The group of Dark Jedi travelled to Korriban, where they encountered the Sith species, which they later conquered and enslaved. Muur and his fellows anointed themselves as Lords of the Sith, and were the very first to don the honorific title.

Even as a Jedi, Muur delved into the arcane practices of the Dark Side. He later proclaimed to use the Dark Side to twist, prolong and preserve life, and is known for engineering many forms of Sithspawn. Muur was also a pioneer of Sith magic, notable for developing a spell that turned non Force-sensitive beings into mindless beasts called rakghouls. The rakghoul plague, a malady that was transferred through the saliva of a rakghoul which turned its victim into the same, was engineered through the use of Sith alchemy. Muur was also one of the first known to practice this art. With his army of rakghouls, Muur intended to use them to rule the galaxy.

As a Sith Lord, Muur’s talents grew exponentially. He was among the original Sith Lords, and thus was instrumental in the development of their abilities and lore. He pioneered, developed and built up many of the abilities that would later be used by the Sith on a whole. Muur has also been attributed to the creation of creatures such as Leviathans. Made famous for his creation of both the Muur talisman and the rakghoul plague, Muur was feared throughout the Sith Empire and over the course of his life defeated and in some case utterly destroyed any and all rivals that tried to usurp his power.

His death is still unknown, as is the nature of how his spirit was transferred into the Muur talisman. What became of it has been lost to the ravages of history.
