He still wasn't sure about any of this, but he supposed he didn't have anything better planned for his day. After all, he couldn't bring himself to believe that his running into Cedric and pals on Irn had been coincidence. That was why he'd taken the time to find out more about them, despite not having fully decided for himself whether or not he should trust them. Still, from what he could gather, he was well aligned with their cause, despite their many walks of life that could make things volatile. With the right leadership, however, it didn't matter who came from where. It only mattered how far they were willing to go and how much they were willing to give.
This Temple had been on his list of places to visit for far too long, and in fact, his journey of self discovery and understanding had ended at the bottom of a bottle a few years ago. The Elo Sha Temple had been there, waiting for him, but he hadn't shown. Not until that very moment, as his body had finally begun to emerge from a cold sweat induced by a not so funny state of withdrawal that he'd put himself through the last few days. After all, why not work on your demons while on a long trip to visit a Temple full of Jedi that should want nothing to do with you?
"Yea... this day needs to end pretty soon.", he sighed to himself as he began scaling the steps, one at a time, up towards the temple gates where there were four Jedi standing guard. A sight not unfamiliar to Varus who, in the past, had been good friends with the Jedi Guardians charged with guarding the gates of the Temple on some planet he couldn't quite recall. And when he reached the top step he could have sworn one of them made a double take in his direction.
That was the one who'd know exactly who the lone journeyman who'd just scaled their sacred steps was. Varus, of the Republic. Varus, the executioner. The warrior's heart. The hammer of Corvus Raaf's will. The drunken warrior who no longer had a cause. A man distracted and a man apart. "Gentleman...", he whispered a she didn't break his stride, making sure to take each step confidently as he headed for those gates, though he could almost feel their hesitance until one of them finally spoke up and called on him to stop, as was his charge. Varus wasn't a part of their order, after all, and he could only expect as much from a man so young and eager to impress.
Quicker than Varus could manage to avoid it, one of the young Jedi Guardians had stepped in front of him and put his hand on Varus' chest, and before he could stop himself, Varus had snatched the man's wrist with one hand, looped his free arm between the man's bicep and forearm and forced the man's arm to bend back. He'd made the man's bicep and forearm clamp down against his own forearm, giving Varus control of the man as he forced him to submit to his movements. When he did he raised his right leg and immediately stepped on the back of the man's calf, forcing him down to one knee. He then applied pressure to the man's wrist and pulled back with his upper body, threatening to snap the man's wrist with little more than modest effort, and if he applied real pressure, the young man's forearm would crack against Varus' own arm.
"Not okay. Never okay. Do not ever touch me again."
