"Only power is real, and the only real power is the power to destroy. Existence is fleeting. Destruction is eternal."
- The Sorcerers of Rhand

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: The Grand Bone Temple
  • Classification: Temple | Laboratory
  • Location: Rhand
  • Affiliation:
  • Accessibility: In order to access the Grand Bone Temple one must enter the Catacombs, a series of tunnels carved out beneath the surface of Rhand. At the heart of these burial halls and bone filled passageways lies the bastion of entropy itself, the lair of the Sorcerers of Rhand led by Tegan Starfall Tegan Starfall . There are few living guards, they are unneeded as the Sorcerers make their home here in the filth and decay of death, in the bowels of the earth where the dead are many and the living are few.
  • Description: Situated deep beneath the golden prairies of Rhand, under a square mile of skeletal filled passages and catacombs sprawl into the heart of darkness, the Grand Bone Temple of the Sorcerers of Rhand. Kept up for millennia by the Sorcerers of Rhand, the faithful adherents that walk the Way of the Dark linger in the hidden depths tended by the dark sorcerers themselves. A spiritual haven, a place of discovery, a place of worship, a place of advancement in the mystic arts. The Grand Temple has become a bastion of death in the wake of the Brotherhood’s integration of Rhand, slaves are brought in droves to be sacrificed in order to appease the Dark. Experiments are performed upon those unlucky few who escape sacrifice just to die slowly at the hands of the entropic Rhandites, their mystic studies furthering the understanding of all dark zealots under the Brotherhood's umbrella. While the Brotherhood proper does not adhere to the Way of the Dark, following their own Scripture of the Hidden Maw, they see many similarities in their brethren and accept them as true believers of different stock and culture. In this way it is not uncommon to see believers of the Maw among the Rhandite ranks within this bastion of evil.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Hidden Gateways: There are multiple entry points to enter the Grand Bone Temple, all that pass into the Catacombs and eventually converge upon the Hollow and the Dark Sanctum itself. These gateways are stoic mausoleums, natural caverns, and small fissures that litter the golden prairies of Rhand, unseen by the untrained eye.
  • The Catacombs: The Labyrinth of the Dead, the network of tunnels and caverns that span beneath the surface of Rhand into the Grand Bone Temple proper. The halls here are littered with the remains of the collected dead from millennia, the Sorcerers of Rhand constructed these tunnels to expand their domain time after time, and to house the dead from which they resurrect to guard their sacred domain. It is easy to get lost within these narrow corridors and unmarked tunnels, Mawite pilgrims receive guides in order to reach the Temple lest they join the dead one way or another. The Catacombs eventually pour into the Hollow, the domain proper of the Sorcerers of Rhand.
  • The Hollow: The collective chambers and laboratories that house the Sorcerers of Rhand and those that follow the Way of the Dark. It is here that the Sorcerers of Rhand toil in arts mystical and profane. Their domain is constantly being expanded, more chambers carved day after day to house the growing numbers under Tegan Starfall Tegan Starfall as they grow in power.
  • The Dark Sanctum: The Grand Bone Temple's heart, a massive antechamber made of sentient skeletal remains from hundreds of various species, from Human to Wookiee. The Rhandites have constructed a massive altar, a shrine dedicated to the Dark that serves as the crux of power within the domain of dread here on Rhand. It is here that the Rhandites perform sacrifices and rituals in honor of the Dark, Mawites that perform pilgrimages to this dark place pray here to the sacred Avatars, often the Avatar of Death itself whilst quoting the Scripture of the Hidden Maw.

SECURITY

Medium: There is little need for security or defensive emplacements within the bowels of this dark domain. The undead walk within the hallowed halls of the Bone Temple, the few living guards deployed by the Brotherhood merely patrol the entrances into the underground or the Dark Sanctum itself. The Sorcerers of Rhand make their home here and are ferociously devout in the protection of their domain, setting traps only for the unwitting. They rely chiefly on their dark sorcery and superior knowledge of their surroundings to serve as the first line of defense of their chief haven within the Brotherhood of the Maw.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Constructed over millennia ago by the Sorcerers of Rhand, the Grand Bone Temple was a symbol of the Dark's influence over the Nihil Retreat. It wasn't until the Brotherhood's arrival over Rhand and their union with the Rhandites themselves that the Temple found greater use, expanding beyond all expectation. The Grand Bone Temple became a symbol of something... more.

Power.

The Dark and the Scripture of the Hidden Maw, beliefs that spurred the holy site into rebirth as initiates flocked to the den of Tegan Starfall Tegan Starfall and her Rhandites. Scores of slaves worked day and night, toiling in the deep at the whip and lash of the Taskmaster Tu'teggacha Tu'teggacha 's underlings, in those early days those who perished expanding the depths were merely added to the collected dead hoarded by the Rhandites. Overtime, less and less slaves found use or even were requested to continue renovations and work, the Sorcerers of Rhand had devised a new method more effective and less requiring of the workforce needed to expand the Brotherhood's war machine.

The dead.

Those who had perished were brought back from the clutches of entropy to serve as simple minded labor, servants to work until the flesh rotted off their bones.
