THE FIRST CHANCELLOR'S DEBATE
....A HIGH REPUBLIC STORY

e4S78C4.png

For centuries, Naboo has been guided by a procession of royalty whose rule seldom extended past the marble halls of Theed palace, but times have changed. What began as a singular world with a dream, has grown into a spanning coalition of united worlds and systems, thriving beneath the banner of safety flown by the Royal Naboo Republic.

And though the success of the Republic has been without question, with the reach of the Crown managing to stretch far and wide, its power has remained veiled behind closed doors and inaccessible to the average Republic citizen.

Tonight, that changes. Tonight, those doors have been thrown wide open and the entirety of the Galaxy watches with baited breath for what comes next as the Royal Naboo Republic prepares to choose not a future Monarch, but their very first Chancellor.

The Hall of Perri-Teeka, named for the famed Pro-Gungan statesman who first attempted to bridge the divide between peoples, was chosen to be the epicenter of that future and the future of every world that flies the Republic’s colors.

Hundreds have come together, gathering beneath Perri-Teek'as great domed ceilings, while millions more tune in across the galaxy via the HoloNet.

Moderating the event is HoloNet reporter Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar , whose impartial reporting while covering the Hapes Crisis, and the Trifecta that later shaped the political atmosphere and relationship between The Republic, The Confederacy, and The Foundation, has earned her both acclaim and infamy; making her the perfect candidate to preside over the evening's event.

The Royal Republic may not yet call itself the High Republic, but by the time the stars rise over Theed tonight, it just might.

Candidates for the Chancellorship must answer questions drawn from citizen submissions across the Republic. These questions have been reviewed and selected by an independent panel committed to fairness and transparency. This is the candidates' moment to present their platforms, respond to direct questions from Pinda, and handle the pressure of live, unscripted confrontation to try and sway the hearts and minds of the people of the Republic.

Whether you're a Jedi, politician, diplomat, civilian, or spacer, now is the time to bear witness. Tune in to the debate as the future of the Republic and the Southern Systems is decided.

BROADCASTING LIVE...
VVVDHjr.png

“Good evening to our audience here on Naboo, across the Republic, and throughout the wider galaxy. I’m Pinda Solthar, and this is 360° Around the Galaxy, broadcasting live from The Hall of Perri-Teeka in Theed, where the Royal Naboo Republic has gathered beneath these storied ceilings to make history.

The holofeed opens with the sweeping panoramic of Theed, waterfalls glinting in the dying Naboo light, crowds gathered beneath towering holoscreens. The view settles on the rectangular strength of The Hall of Perri-Teeka, its great front doors open, the words of its namesake engraved proudly overhead in flowing Gungan script.

Inside, The Hall hums with anticipation beneath its elegant, vaulted ceiling. Delegations from colony worlds, Confederacy observers, Royal Assembly advisors, and the everyday citizens of the Royal Naboo Republic fill the grand chamber. Floating above it all on translucent holo banners, projected in serene blue, the words:

THE HIGH REPUBLIC CHANCELLORIAL DEBATE | LIVE BROADCAST

At the central dais stands Pinda Solthar, poised and still, the insignia of 360° Around the Galaxy hovering softly behind her.

“Tonight… the Republic chooses not a king, not a queen, but a Chancellor. Two candidates will soon take this stage to present competing visions of the Republic’s future. One rooted in the language of the people--diversity, dignity, and democratic accountability. The other in systems, strategy, and governance--with a promise of operational strength and predictable prosperity."

Her tone sharpens, eyes on the camera.

“Two candidates, two visions.

Kalantha Kalantha , the former Queen of Naboo, champion of dignity, diversity, and people-first governance. Her campaign has called for a new Republic, reborn in the image of those it protects. To her supporters, she is not just Naboo’s queen--she is the soul of the Republic’s future.

Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos , a representative of Affa, one of the Confederacy’s sharpest economic minds. His platform? Systemic stability through operational precision. His campaign calls for a Republic that doesn’t just believe in hope--but proves its worth through results, governance, and strategic leverage on the galactic stage.

Both candidates call for a High Republic. But they differ on what that highness means: One promises people-led progress, and the other promises prosperity through precision."

The holo display behind her shifts to elegant projections of names and faces from across the Republic -- ordinary citizens, frontier settlers, students, farmers, tradespeople, war veterans -- all those who submitted questions for this night.

“People across this Republic’s expanse are seeking answers about the things that matter:
  • Security from criminals and pirates at the borders and in the streets.
  • Representation in a government that may soon span entire sectors.
  • The relationship between faith, law, and liberty, particularly in how this government will treat religious freedoms, and the role of ancient organizations like the Jedi Order.
  • Accountability--not just for officials, but for the powerful institutions that surround this Republic.
  • And perhaps most critically of all: Who does the Chancellor truly serve? Themselves, the government, or the people?
These are not easy questions. Nor should they be. Because what rises from this hall tonight will not just shape the future of Naboo, but potentially the next great power of the Rim. And tonight, before the people of Naboo, the Republic’s Rim colonies, and the galaxy, they will face your questions and mine, live, unscripted, and unfiltered.”

A beat.

"This… is 360° Around the Galaxy. And this… begins now."

Royal Naboo Assembly
Observation Floor, Theed
Interacting with: Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar Kilea Indupar | Open

Sibllya stood silently on the observation floor, her arms relaxed at her sides, her posture displaying the refinement of countless court lessons practiced hundreds of times. She wore a deep plum gown with golden embroidery that complemented her golden skin, the subtle iridescence of the fabric shifting slightly as she adjusted her weight.

She breathed slowly through her nose, careful to still the flutter beneath her ribs. Pressure had long since become a familiar companion, though tonight it felt particularly intrusive, like a second shadow threading behind her own. Never mind how her mind couldn't help but gravitate to another, forcing herself to reign in her wandering thoughts to the present instead.

The broadcast went live with introductions to the Candidates made. Sibylla let a soft exhale flow from her lips, only to school her delicate features back into a tranquil cordial expression. For now, she was quietly watching the holographic debate as it played out before her.

This is what it had come to. The Royal Naboo Republic, long the dignified steward of Nabooan sovereignty, had outgrown the edges of its own domain. Now a greater mantle waited, one stitched with the golden threads of the High Republic; and with it came every burden, every blessing, and every brutal scrutiny. And where Naboo went, Abrantes would follow.

The irony was not lost on her. Nor was the fact that this Chancellor's debate might very well dictate the shape of her own future -- not only with the transition into the High Republic, but with her recent submission as a candidate in the election for Sovereign of Naboo. It was a position that would become all the more important as time passed, as Naboo would not only have to retain its grace but also be expected to continue evolving. Elegantly, yes. But decisively.

And that meant she must do the same.

Her thoughts briefly turned to Enarc, the world that had nearly burned itself to cinders in the wake of the Seed of Rage attack and now cautiously recovering under the stewardship of Senator Sarn. Its industries were recovering, trade revitalizing with delicate negotiations, corporate cooperation, and Republic backing. Threads House Abrantes had helped spin. If Queen Kalantha fell from favor tonight, then those would be in jeopardy -- and Sibylla, along with her father, would be required to hold fast and work through the entire tangle.

So, what questions would be asked? How would they be answered? These were the thoughts that raced through Sibylla's mind, the murmurs and steps of fellow assemblymen and women just barely discernible at the edge of her hearing.

Who would approach?

Sentapoth was genuinely surprised that he was permitted to run for Chancellor of the High Republic, considering the Neimoidians' past with democracy and the Galactic Alliance, which was fully aware of the Trade Federation's role in supplying advanced technology to their later adversaries, the New Imperial Order and the Dark Empire.

However, this did not stop the appointment of Trade Monarch Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin and Senator Monaray Dod Monaray Dod to significant positions within the government, aiming to entangle the Alliance in meaningless discussions.

He hardly had the opportunity to review the script provided by his aides on what to say, let alone engage in a fair debate with the former Monarch of Naboo, Kalantha Kalantha , regarding why his candidacy seemed almost guaranteed, aside from the attempts to manipulate the election with droid votes masquerading as real voters.

Nevertheless, the communication device in his room activated, casting a gentle glow as the Trade Monarch appeared before him, accompanied by the aforementioned Senator from Cato Neimoidia.

"Senator Findos, I do not have to remind you that your potential appointment as Chancellor is vital to the continued success of the Trade Federation. We need fresh markets to influence in the event that the Alliance falls apart from an offensive from the Sith Empire and so the High Republic is the most likely candidate to fulfill the role." Lodd said with a soft tone of voice from the mechno-chair overlooking the senery of Cato Neimoidia.

Senator Dod was not far behind offering some advice, "Like the Trade Monarch explained. The High Republic is a fresh market but do not make the mistake of assuming your opponent will be easily entrapped for there is nothing more dangerous than a Politician without an exit strategy. Debate the former Queen but do not allow her to overtake the conversation. Focus on your policies which are strength through credits, a broad term which will allow you to lie like a siv without anyone realizing your true intentions." the Neimoidian explanation was sound having worked in the Alliance Senate quite a number of years and had purposely lied to cover his own mistakes in debates.

Sentapoth took a deep breath, feeling the weight of stress beginning to overwhelm him. He wasn't a brilliant strategist on the debate stage; rather, he was a timid general retreating from the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Yet, the destiny of the Trade Federation rested on his shoulders, compelling him to employ every tactic available to persuade the citizens of the High Republic that casting their vote for him meant choosing strength in the face of the looming threat posed by the Sith Empire.

Gripping the podium tightly with both hands, he listened as the Moderator, Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar , introduced them to the vast audience of the holonet. The debate was being streamed from planet to planet across their Sphere of Influence, and major powers like the Black Sun Syndicate were likely tuning in.

Even if he didn't secure the top position, there was always the possibility of the Vice-Chancellorship, and who better to foster unity in the Republic than one's political rival?

Outfit

Obviously, the whole of the Royal Naboo Republic was paying attention to the day's affair. At least those with any sense, power, prestige, authority, wealth, or any other sociopolitical standing whatsoever. It would just shape the future of every planet swept up in the Republic's sphere of influence. Economic forecasts. Planetary development. Interstellar trade. Taxes. A Chancellor might not be an Emperor with decrees, but they influenced what the Assembly would do or ignored what they deemed foolish -- a little scandal hardly mattered so long as the agenda was appeased. So it was important that whomever held the title had the right agenda.

Or, at least, a tolerable one.

Dominique Vexx, Director of Denon, Senator of Denon, and socialite had chosen to be planetside for the 'debate' that was to be held. There was no need to be remote and distracted by other matters. And it gave her the perfect opportunity to show off her flowing dress of vibrant neon lights. They couldn't seriously expect her to wear something simple. Dominique never did. Even her 'official' attire was hardly commonplace in fashion.

The lilac glareshades were still in place, of course.

For this affair, she set the shades to be completely opaque from the outside. The cameras would easily find her in the crowd, but that didn't mean she wanted her thoughts worn on her face for the whole galaxy to see. A little mystery played well with such a large audience.

It was a good thing too. Dominique found the list of topics that Pinda suggested would influence the debate to come... disappointing. Those were the matters the public was interested in? Common criminals, representation, religious freedom -- notably, the Jedi -- accountability, and the softest of softballs who did the Chancellor represent? Accountability was a matter Dominique was always mindful of given what happened with the Alliance; it was perhaps the one solid topic among them all. The rest were just so... street level. So banal. Routine, operational matters that people should be leveling at their local officials and holding them to account over. They seriously expected the Chancellor to personally handle piracy? Perhaps they should elect those representatives they would get -- and were somehow concerned they wouldn't! -- to make sure their freedoms weren't extinguished at that.

Dominique crossed her arms. A lone, metal-tipped finger tapped the top of her bent arm. They were going to discuss economic stability and expansion of the Republic were they not? If they spent half the time going on about vague idealism associated with the name change of the Republic, Dominique was going to be sick. They had grown. They would grow. How were they going to handle meeting the needs of all the planets? Distributing resources. Handling the influx of people. Economic development. The people should be demanding a better quality of life, which in turn meant the corporations had to make more products, make more profit, acquire more resources!

This debate might be truly revealing in so far as which candidate would bring them the brightest future. Kalantha had Dominique's favor at the moment, though Sentapoth certainly had the notice of other DireX. It was her lack of meddling in Denon's affairs that favored the current Queen retaining power. Her lack of blindly embracing the influx of immigrants. Could the Nimoidian convince her he could do that and more? Time would tell.

Today, Auren Vellisar stood with quiet poise, a glass of wine in his right hand, his left arm crossed casually beneath it as he surveyed the gathering platforms before him. Beside him, Sibylla Abrantes Sibylla Abrantes appeared equally composed, both watching as the two candidates for the chancellery assembled, readying themselves for the anticipated debate. This live broadcast, set to air across the galaxy, had caught the attention of many, especially thanks to the particular Holonet reporter famed for his sharp commentary. Despite the widespread interest, Auren was unfamiliar with the man behind the lens.

"I must admit, I do feel for our esteemed colleagues down there," Auren remarked, his gaze fixed on the candidates below, considering the intense scrutiny they would soon face. With the entire galaxy watching, he couldn't help but feel the weight of the moment. This debate was not merely a political exercise; it was a challenge. The questions to come would be sharp, testing the candidates' ability to handle controversy, pushing them toward the brink of tension. It would be a true test of their poise, assertiveness, and political acumen.

Auren's thoughts briefly drifted to the potential influence of Sentapoth Findos on Jhaessa Prime. The business acumen of the Dashiell family and Dashiell Incorporated™ could certainly benefit from a mind so keen on corporate strategy. Yet, despite his deep connection to Jhaessa Prime, Auren's heart remained tied to his Naboo roots—his family hailing from the royal lineage, with deep ties to the capital city of Theed. As a graduate from Civic Overseer to Senator representing Jhaessa Prime within the Republican Senate, this debate held particular significance for him. The stakes were high, not just for the candidates but for the direction of the Republic. Auren knew that this was a moment of great interest to many across the galaxy, just as it was to him.

CHANCELLERY DEBATE
… a High Republic Story

UwypdeQ.png

Behind her podium, Kalantha stood still and collected, as if she were a vigil of the Hall of Perri-Teeka itself. A statuesque stateswomen with refinement that would win the Crown Worlds and a heart of gold that spoke to the people of the outer sectors. She served them as their Queen, leading the Royal Republic through some of Naboo and its neighbor's most perilous times, and now she was here. Standing before them, broadcasted across hundreds of systems to billions of lifeforms, as she debated with Senator Findos over matters of the chancellery.

Looking over the notes on her datapad felt like reading battle plans in a war room, one of many places that Kalantha was quite certain Sentapoth had never set foot in. She blinked once, slow and deliberate, to wipe the judgmental thoughts from her mind. "You're better than that," she could imagine her late father saying. "He's just a man who believes he can do what is best for the people, just as you are a woman who believes the same."

Kalantha nodded once to herself, accepted well-spirited advice from the memory of a man she respected more than anyone else she'd ever met. Then, she offered a nod to Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar as she was introduced. She didn't speak, not yet. Her hand rose to wave at the crowd amassed within the Hall and to the viewers across the Mid and Outer Rim who were tuning in to the debate, but the gesture lacked the well-trained pageantry of a royal. Instead, she waved like were greeting Aiden Porte Aiden Porte or Mother Askani Mother Askani or another friend.

Not only did the people need her humanity, but Kalantha wanted to prove that the chancellery wasn't another Royal House boy's club. If she were elected Chancellor, it would be because the people wanted her to be, not because of birthright or the machinations of an aristocracy on a Mid Rim world the rest of the Republic cared little about.

Today was an opportunity to show the galaxy that Inara Kalantha, Queen Emeritus, cared about them, no matter how far from Naboo they were.

Sibylla turned at the sound of the Senator's voice, offering a polite incline of her head in greeting. She recognized Auren Vellisar, the Senator of Jhaessa Prime. While she recognized the name of House Vellisar, she had yet to directly interact with Auren himself. From her understanding, he had spent most of his time in the Outer Rim away from Crown Worlds.

"Senator Vellisar," she greeted with a small, knowing smile. "I had wondered if we might cross paths tonight. It's far better than being left alone with only the Holonet's flair for drama."

She stepped beside him, her gaze returning to the platform below, where the candidates were preparing to speak. Soon, the queries would begin, and the candidates would be required to respond, with their answers recorded for review and inspection by the entire galaxy.

"I do agree," she said quietly, thinking of her own upcoming campaign. "It's no easy thing to be judged by the entire galaxy with each word and breath. Even the finest truths can be lost beneath the noise."

Her voice softened, thoughtful.

"But then, perhaps they knew what they were walking into. One cannot stand in the fire and complain about the heat."

She glanced his way again, a delicate brow arching in quiet curiosity.

"I am curious, where do your thoughts lie? With the Queen's steady course… or the Corporate Sector's promises of expansion?"

Her tone was light, but the question was real. Because tonight wasn't just about who would lead the High Republic.

It was about who would shape everything that came next.

"You got this Inara." Aiden muttered under his breath as he stood in the kitchen preparing some more treats and such for those that had arrived. Aiden had organized a little watch party for the Debates that were going to be taking place. Several different sort of food items and drinks. And most importantly his famous, well he thought they were famous cookies.

Aiden chuckled lightly as the few that had arrived were already beginning to talk amongst themselves on who it should be and what could be said. It was also a time to get some social interaction, he had an entire homestead to himself that he still needed to make preparations for expansion and such. It was good to have people out here, friendly faces and well what family he had left.

It was nice.

Aiden called out to this signifying that both food and drinks were ready. Aiden poured himself a drink as he went to go sit down in the living area, the large holo-screen before them as things were starting to kick off.

"Lady Abrantes", Auren dipped his head, raising his glass in a humble bow in response to her greeting him formally; the older Senator bore her a warm, friendly smile, ever appreciative of quality company. They had not shared a room since the diplomatic venture to Mandalore, whereby the Republic extended an olive branch to the Mandalorian Empire, and Sibylla Abrantes Sibylla Abrantes was given a surprising vote of confidence from the Mand'alor himself, a sight to behold indeed.

"Our two Candidates are certain to give us a good viewing..." Auren's gaze fell back upon the Platforms further below, where Sentapoth and Kalantha would be gathering themselves for the debate to follow; "Sentapoth Findos' approach is technocratic and efficiency driven, which is no doubt beneficial for a new-born colony such as Jhaessa Prime. His governance utilising commercial frameworks could indeed work to bolster our early years of development..." Auren surmised, though his voice seemed to linger as though there were more he had to say, even in the moment of silence that held between the pair.

"Queen Kalantha" he finally spoke, almost as though he had been holding his breath a moment longer than he should. Her name flowed with a soft chuckle as his eyes found her platform, admiration held within his gaze; "She, like Naboo, is where my heart lies, however", he concluded. He spoke not of romantic sentiment but of his virtue. "People centred, and Diplomatic. She is morally driven and will lead with integrity, not only representing the High Republic, but also the Kingdom of Naboo despite moving away from the Throne".

Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos | Kalantha Kalantha

"We begin tonight with a question from one of the Republic's most vulnerable corners, a submission from a citizen of Sedesia. Sedesia is a rugged world of hardworking ranchers, loggers, and families living far from the comforts of Theed or Affa. This is where hard living is the norm and community strength is survival. Their lives are shaped by harsh climates, heavier gravity, and the constant threat that comes from being too close to galactic fault lines.

But Sedesia isn't just remote; it borders Sith-controlled space.

They don't have the luxury of abstract promises. They want leadership that understands the real dangers they face every day. And so our first question cuts straight to the heart of that concern."

Pinda leans forward slightly.
"Who or what do you believe poses the greatest threat to the High Republic?"

Turning evenly to the candidates.
"Representative Findos, the floor is yours. Lady Kalantha, you may immediately follow up."

Kilea wondered how it had come down to these two. Such was politics it seemed, two beings who Kilea thought may or may not have the ability to actually run the government. Sentapoth would run the government like the business. Governments weren't quite like a business, not most of them anyhow. Kalantha had been their steady Queen through the changes that had shaken the galaxy. Question was could the Queen pivot quick enough to change and adapt to a galaxy that was ever changing?

For herself, she did not know either well. Tonights debate was giving her a chance to view each candidate objectively. Her mind had not been made up, although the first to mention keeping planetary rights central to their leadership style would certainly garner her interest.

Arms crossed, she gave a small sigh, Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar coming back from a commercial break to get started with the first question.

"Who or what do you believe poses the greatest threat to the High Republic?"

"I don't want to hear 'the Sith' as an answer. A cop-out to lay blame on all our problems on a mystical boogeyman."

Kilea was speaking to no one in particular. Senators stood near by, one from Enarc and the other from Jhaessa Prime. The pair had been speaking on how the debate could sway and go this evening. Personally, she was curious how long it would take before it delved into a shouting match. They had already created a betting pool back on the Education Committee.

Babe, I’m going to be here for a while. Would you like to watch the debate with me? His wife wasn’t political, besides, she was preparing for a sleepover for their daughter, so while Arcann sat on the observation floor, his wife was out and about in their house. This was their dynamic, they were very active together, so this was not out of the ordinary. While sometimes he had “work” to do, it gave them the time apart they needed to enjoy their time together.

This was one of those times that he wished he did not have work to do.

He walked among his colleagues, nodding to each of them, even standing among them watching the proceedings, but keeping his opinions to himself. Sure, he was more than happy to talk to anyone who wanted to, but would not force himself on anyone. Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar was an interesting person to say the least, he found himself glued to HNN during her coverage of the Hapan catastrophe. I can’t believe she hasn’t been syndicated yet. He said to no one in particular.

Overall, so far he was impressed by the spectacle of it all, but not necessarily the meat of it.

OOC-Sorry I'm late to the party

Sentapoth blinked several times as Moderator Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar posed the first question of the Chancellorship debate.

The question was quite simple yet challenging for the Neimoidian to respond to, given the multitude of nearby major powers that could threaten the High Republic, including the Sith Empire, the Black Sun Syndicate, and perhaps even the Galactic Alliance, which until now had been the only protector of democracy and goodwill in a galaxy rife with evil and tyrannical rulers.

There was no straightforward answer, which led him to break into a slight cold sweat, fully aware that his rival Kalantha Kalantha could twist his response against him if he overlooked something that might resonate better with the average Republic citizen. She already had the public's support as a war leader during the Mandalorian Neo-Crusader campaign.

He gripped the podium before speaking into the provided microphone. "There is no easy answer to this question and I will not pretend to have the insight of our Intelligence Agency to determine who or what is the greatest enemy of the Republic as there are lots of factors at play such as Military Strength, Industrial Capacity and projection of soft power." He mentioned first, trying to portray himself not as a know-it-all politician, but rather as someone who would depend on others for guidance in grasping the threats that the Republic might encounter under his possible leadership.

"The gravest peril to the High Republic, if I am to speak plainly, originates from within its own democratic body. It is a slow poison, spread by local agitators, who twist the truth until our citizens believe their government champions only mega-corporations and nobility and not the average citizens from the factories, the farms. Against such insidious, internal corrosion, the unwavering vigilance of every citizen is our only, and absolute, defense." Sentapoth explained with a side eye to the former Queen Kalantha Kalantha already using one trick in the politicians book of mentioning your opponent's occupation as a means to discourage voters from different social backgrounds from endorsing the upper class establishment.

"I do not support reporting on your neighbors, nor do I endorse the Jedi Order being used to impose law and order in our communities. My primary objective is to guarantee that our citizens experience the security and safety of a flourishing Republic, free from the fear of terrorism and expansionist powers. A High Republic can truly fulfill its promise only when everyone has the opportunity to prosper, and under my guidance, the Republic will flourish..." Sentapoth concluded.

Sibylla shone Senator Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar a small smile, the kind that hinted at both fondness and the subtle amusement she was well known for. Well, the kind she carefully presented. The one Lysander von Ascania Lysander von Ascania pointed out she wore too much like a mask of duty instead of the real one of her own, the inescapable act bringing with it with a dull ache.

"You speak with such reason, Senator," she said gently, doing her best to keep her voice steady, her gaze drifting to the platform below.

"Though I daresay the sentiments of your heart are also felt by others; be it with logic, loyalty, or both. "

Before she could say more, the first question of the night echoed through the chamber.

"Who or what do you believe poses the greatest threat to the High Republic?"

A query that immediately drew the seemingly cynical commentary from Senator Kilea Indupar regarding that she didn't want to hear the answer be a cop out that the greatest threat was the Sith.

Sibylla held her breath at the word Sith, though she masked it well, reaching for a glass from a passing attendant with seeming ease. The first sip cooled her lips, though it did nothing for the return of the tight ache in her chest, recalling conversations that hadn't had the time or opportunity to be had.

Just breathe, she thought to herself, though her eyes were momentarily distant.

She turned her attention back to the stage just as Senator Findos began his reply. The mention of threats within the Republic itself made her take a settling breath, then slip on the soft smile anew, providing a careful lift a brow.

"Well," she said softly, more to herself than anyone else, "that is a clever answer."

"Rather bold,"
she murmured quietly, tilting her head as she leaned ever so slightly toward Auren once more.

"To suggest the greatest threat lies within our own halls. Honest, perhaps. But I wonder…"

She glanced toward Senator Indupar, tone laced with polite inquiry.

"Senator, what do you make of such a claim? Would you consider it brave... or simply convenient?"

Beneath the rim of a hat and the veneer of a two shades sat Her within the HALL OF PERRI-TEEKA as she attended the debate between Kalantha Kalantha and Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos while they vied for the position of CHANCELLOR in the HIGH REPUBLIC.

The subsequent endorsement of the Neimodian by the Tarsai Vigil coincided right at the beginning of this debate, and she wondered if it would capture the attention of Pinda Solthar Pinda Solthar 's broadcast. To Her mind it was the first endorsement of Findos since the announcement of his candidacy in the weeks leading up to this debate, and sat in opposition to what some perceived to be as the 'favoured' candidate in the form of the former Monarch of Naboo.

Unlike her contemporaries who sat in observation of tonight's debate, Her knew somethings about Findos that others did not know. By way of his association, if not outright membership of the TRADE FEDERATION, this man held links to corners of the galaxy that would, in uncertain words, ruin his political campaign to become the Chancellor. But instead of using that information to bring catastrophe to the political campaign Her had used a subsidiary in the Cortessan Finance Group to endorse the Neimodian statesman. She understood the connections here... and the potential one could covet through supporting such an endeavour.

Her had been following the machinations of the Federation for quite sometime. Through her own endeavours in the Outer Rim Territories and infiltration of the Dark-Imperial bloc which had ruled from Carlac for two years the undercover Dark Lord had gained only a little glimpse into the workings of this capitalist organisation and what it had shown her was something to be desired.

She understood that they had funded in part the campaign waged by the Dark Empire which saw Empress Teta and Tython fall into Imperial control for two years during the CORE WARS. Her spy had sighted an official attending games hosted on Geonosis by Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex and they had later attended a war cabinet hosted by Darth Empyrean Darth Empyrean as he had then debated on whether to continue his campaign against the alliance into the Mid Rim or to retaliate against the Imperial incursion on Felucia in 901 ABY.

That secret meeting on board the Mors Mon had led to the death of Alicia Drey Alicia Drey as the Federation delegate in attendance had exposed her as a spy. Losing THE DIRECTOR had led to the capitulation of the Fifth Wing but such losses were acceptable to Her given the outcomes of the Sartinaynian Crisis and what was now happening in the Ash Worlds. The Federation letter to the destroyed Empire of the Lost had also been a contributing factor in the economic collapse of the Kilran Dynasty which had paved the way for the reconsolidation of the Imperial remnants into the new Imperial Confederation and the formation of the Imperial Corrections Directorate-- a better, more influential position given the advent of the COMECI.

Her had read Imperial Secret Service dossiers had recorded sightings of Federation influence in Mandalorian markets, and according to her sources, another representative had been sighting during another Sith gathering on Korriban where a potential alliance between the self-proclaimed KING OF KORRIBAN and the LORDS OF THE DIARCHY were discussed. These rare sightings and an outside look into how the Federation operated exposed a web of influence across many of the galactic powers. Now, here they were working again to acquire a key position in the HIGH REPUBLIC as one of their own campaigned to become it's head-of-state.

Not only had the Federation proven itself to be capable and elite influencers in the arenas of trade, commerce and galactic politics but they had also shown themselves to be almost indomitable and resolute in the face of persecution following their blockade of Alderaan. Despite the existence of the New Jedi Order and their overwhelming influence over the Alliance they had not been removed from the Federal Assembly or been excommunicated despite attacking peaceful planet. They possessed strength, which combined with cunning and intelligence, made them a partner Her coveted to work with, or at least bend to fit her own plans to destroy the Sith Empire.

Just as it was not a co-incidence that so many different dignitaries and delegates of the Federation were sighted among the villains and heroes throughout the galaxy the same was true for Her and the influence she sought to covet herself in this burgeoning High Republic through the Five Veils Initiative. The work had been done in Imperial space, as they rested near the Sith client state at the THANDON STAR CLUSTER, and now it was in motion earnestly within a realm which sat between the two foremost powers in the galaxy.

The rise of Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos from obscurity into galactic politics was fascinating to Her given the implications and associations that she could barely understand. She wondered what the galaxy would look like if a man like him became the leader of the High Republic?

THE HALL OF PERRI-TEEKA
OBSERVATION FLOOR

Eleena stood in a quiet corner of the observation floor flanked by three mature younglings- soon to become padawans, with an interest in politics who she had brought with her to observe the debate as part of their training. Her sharp eyes carefully glazing over those in view as Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos began his response to the opening question; "See-" the younglings look up at her, "watch how the Senator speaks: how he stands, how he stresses his words, how he holds the room..." her eyes now tracing over the trio as she spoke in a slow, hushed tone, "who can tell me what the chancellor does?"

The first to perk up was the mischievous Pantoran, Lura: "Ooh! Ooh!" she raised her hand, grinning as she chimed in, "I mean, sure, they lead, but I think a smart Chancellor keeps people working together, even when everyone's arguing. If they shout louder than everyone else, they'll just get ignored. So they have to be clever. And brave enough to stand up when no one wants to!" exclaimed Lura, straightforward in her answer, "Ah, excellent perspective, Lura, bravery can be an important quality in a leader..." she paused for a moment, "but perhaps consider, do you think a leader could also show patience and empathy even when they face such difficulties?" Eleena continued, encouraging Lura to consider more deeply.

Next to chime in was the gentle Ithorian, Ko'nari: "Sometimes they have to say 'no,' even when it's not popular. But if they forget why they were chosen, or who they serve, then they become something worse than useless. So… they need a strong heart. And patience. Like a Jedi!" proposed Ko'nari, prompting a small chuckle from Eleena, "Mm... A strong heart and patience, yes. To stand firm against fear is just as important. But remember, duty must bend with compassion, or it breaks- for both Jedi and Chancellor alike," she reassured Ko'nari, before her eyes flickered to the third youngling...

"Serin..." she began, gently smiling to the shy Naboolian, "what do you think?" Serin hesitated for a moment before softly answering: "...They... speak for the people. They must listen more than they speak. Like Master Eleena says..." she responded, followed by a few moments of silence as she thought about it more: "...If they're wise, they don't just make rules. They listen- to senators, to people in the street, to planets we rarely hear of... I think a good Chancellor guides, but also learns..."

Eleena's eyes softened as she nodded in approval, "Well said, Serin... To guide wisely is to listen deeply, to consider not only yourself but those around you, those who rely on you, and those who you rely on..." reassured the Jedi Master, pleased with the perspectives of the soon-to-be-Padawans.

"Very good, all of you," her eyes now shifting back to the stage, "now, let's listen closely to what Queen Kalantha has to say..."

CHANCELLERY DEBATE
… a High Republic Story

UwypdeQ.png

"The biggest threat faced by the Republic isn't the Sith, or a lack of the imperialist devotion Senator Findos describes," Kalantha said. Her tone was clear and measured, her words spoken plainly, as if this were a conversation with a friend and not an address to the masses. "Our biggest threat is division."

"The belief that there is an 'us' and a 'them.' That the nobles are immune to strife, or that those less fortunate are undeserving of peace. The heart of the Republic beats as one organ. One soul. And it beats strongest when we are unified, not by blind devotion and unwavering faith, but by the genuine belief that we are all in this together."

She allowed a small smile to spread on her face, softening her sharp porcelain features. Without her headdress and ceremonial makeup, she looked much different to the onlookers. More relatable. Human.

"Whether it's the Sith Order, the Mandalorian Crusaders, the Planeshift, or whatever may come for us next - the Republic will overcome, and it will do so as a singular nation built on trust, comradery, and a reverence for justice."

"Sentiments of the heart can at times be a detriment in our line of service, I dare say" Auren remarked with a soft chuckle, having previously considered that his faith in the Queen may not perhaps reflect the current economical needs of the budding planet that he was representing; however something that the young Master Dashiell had said to him had given him room to reconsider: 'I need a man in politics who can see what needs to be done and do it, not for personal ambition, but with integrity, free from the influence that political gains can offer'.

Soon enough, the first question was announced and whilst being spoken, Auren turned partially at the note of a new company among them. Kilea Indupar had joined them upon the observation deck and listened before uttering a remark about the Sith seemingly openly and without concern. Studious eyes first glanced at Sibylla, who stood closer to him, taking a moment to gauge whether she was to respond, yet to his intrigue, she did not appear to be of the mind to comment. To say that the Sith were a threat was a statement of fact; Kilea's pessimistic remark, perhaps made in light of the fact that it would have been a largely obvious and hollow answer, though that would not have made it incorrect.

Sentapoth Findos Sentapoth Findos spoke well in his answer, bringing Auren's attention to be brought back to the main affair. His articulation was strong, and he spoke the political language well, yet some of that which he spoke invited caution. It was true that those living in the fortunate position, such as his, were in far contrast to those struggling to stay afloat financially from day to day, yet to consider himself out of touch with the people was not a notion that he recieved without contention. While it was certainly possible, and Auren knew that he did not share in many of the hardships that others faced, he considered himself a man of the people and a man of conscience, doing what he felt was best for those he believed his role made him responsible for. However, this was a debate, and Sentapoth was here to win hearts and minds, not to speak on facts. Certainly, those that were questionable at best. The Neimoidian was playing an intelligent game.

To his side, Sibylla Abrantes Sibylla Abrantes spoke up once again, this time to Senator Indupar's direction and asking her opinion. Auren meanwhile, raised his glass of vintage red to his lips, taking a slow sip of his wine while he remained attentive to the debate below.

The Padawan raised a cookie upward and he took a small bit as the first question was shown and Aiden sat up a bit more to fully engage with what he was saying. Which had merit, yet the thought their being corruption that could sow through the Republic already. It was a bold statement, perhaps even a desperate one to say. Throw something out there without and valid intelligence on the matter. Then advise under his guidance, the Republic would flourish.

"Hmmm....." Aiden glanced down for a moment, definitely something he would have to meditate on later.

Aiden raised then raised a cup to his lips with his other hand taking a small drink. Aiden glanced to either side of him as there were already conversations and debates about what was said. Aiden took a deep breath as he looked at the holo screen once more. Thus there was ending Senator Findos turn and the same question was turned onto the Kalantha.

There were several claps from within his living area and he couldn't help but smile. No doubt she was the favorite, this was politics though. No one would truly know how it would play out.

More claps came during the middle and the end of her speech. He couldn't help but chuckle, she had been dong this for some time. She knew what to say and how to deliver it perfectly. Yet there would be some naysayers, as with any side of the spectrum.

Aiden believed as his father did. Division amongst them would be the downfall of the Republic. As his father said to him the only way to survive is together.

Aiden took another bite of his cookies as he looked on.

Confidence, that was key.
