"Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it..."
-- Darth Bane describing the Rule of Two.

Ala Quin said:
"Tell me..."

"I thought not," Her replied. "It is not a story that the Jedi would tell you."

Meeting Ala's gaze, Her gave her a cunning smile. "It is a Sith legend."

As the debate below them was coming to an end, with the highest position in the High Republic left in uncertain hands at the advent of the upcoming High Chancellor election, Her allowed herself to relax and with it the pouting stopped as she brought Ala Quin into the enigma of the past.

"Darth Ayra was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise, that she could use the Force to dilute the Sith into their purest form," Her explained underneath the din of the High Republic--in the bastion of democracy and to the light side of the force that was the antitheist to the person that she was talking about. "She had such a knowledge of the dark side that she had the foresight and ability to break away from the dogmatic, militaristic views of the Sith to embrace the truth first taught and passed on by Bane."

Her maintained her sombre, stoic gaze upon Ala as her revelations about the enigmatic Darth Ayra hung between them like venom threatening to intoxicate and ruin the Shiraya-Jedi that the undercover Dark Lord was looking upon with such a sense of forlorn longing for. "Just a little over half-a-century ago the remnants of the Caldera-Sith banded together with a surviving, mysterious sect of Sith Lords who called themselves the One Sith and together they usurped the Old Republic in a campaign which saw to it's fall and the annexation of the Core Worlds to christen in the birth of a new Sith Empire set to rule the galaxy. At long last the promise of Syn looked set to be fulfilled by her successors..."

As Her looked into Ala's eyes she found herself needing to look away to maintain their composure. Averting their gaze from Ala back to the crowd again, Her continued to say: "In the end, of course, the natural paradigms of those who seek power took over. With their adversaries gone, the One Sith turned on each other. Those fools... They had the entire galaxy within their grasp and yet it was still not enough for them..."

The way that Her spoke about the legendary One Sith was filled with contempt and hatred that was difficult to hide, and therefore so obvious to the woman that she was talking with to their side. "Enamoured by the truth, Darth Ayra wove themselves into the tapestry of Bane and began the work to destroy the Sith Order so that it could be reconstituted and reformed into it's purest form. At the end of the One Sith Wars, she freed a Jedi who, of course, had been captured by her former comrades, and together they embarked on a pilgrimage that, naturally, culminated in her death..."

"Before she died Ayra passed on everything that she knew to her apprentice. It is ironic..."

Her met Ala's gaze again.

"...That she could save her enemy, but not herself."

She examined Her with every syllable. The story pulled in her like a gravity well. But with the allure, came suspicions. Ala's eyes narrowed.

"I think you are more dangerous than I gave you credit for," she whispered, now leaning some ways over the armrest - easily invading the other woman's space. She did not retreat, not for the fear, distrust nor the allure.

"You speak as one that knows this story intimately," Ala said in a tone barely above a whisper, "the truth first taught by Bane...huh?"

Her fingers gripped the armrest, and her tone became laced with the same accusation as moments before the story began. "How does someone in management at a security firm in the Republic come to know so much about the Sith?"

She dared move her hand, taking the woman's sleeve in her fingers. Digits curled around the fabric and tugged on her arm.

"I am starting to lose faith in you simply being about the money. I know what you are," she said, pulling Her within inches of herself, "and whatever your plan may be...it will have to go through me."

"What celestial body is more luminous than a singularity? Hiding in plain sight but more powerful than all."
-- Darth Guile.

Ala Quin said:
"I think you are more dangerous than I gave you credit for..."

If only you knew what I know.

Ala Quin said:
"You speak as one that knows this story intimately... the truth first taught by Bane...huh?"

There can only be two.

Ala Quin said:
"How does someone in management at a security firm in the Republic come to know so much about the Sith?"

Those unprepared to deal with the consequences of the truth risk being destroyed by all that they discover.

Ala Quin said:
"I am starting to lose faith in you simply being about the money. I know what you are... and whatever your plan may be... it will have to go through me."

Her lowered their dark gaze down to Ala's hand as it clutched at their sleeve. The pout returned and with it a dark, intimidating stare which glared back at her stunning adversary.

"You know nothing, Ala Quin."

Crimson eyes admired the Jedi's lips. A fatal attraction stirred beneath the tension.

"In order to understand all of the knowledge and intricacies of the Force one must adopt a more nuanced perspective,"
Her explained cryptically as she took back her hand and began to rise back up to her feet. "Remember the following axiom as we take our leave today, Ala..."

"...The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

A sad smile formed as the undercover Dark Lord turned and walked down the rows of seat to exit the hall with the other spectators and dignitaries who had gathered to watch the debate for the position of Supreme Chancellor of the High Republic.
