OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a submission for the Codex Location Contest V, and to flesh out an important Sith location.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: The Factory-Cities of Kol Huro
  • Classification: Factory-Cities
  • Location: The Kol Huro System
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire / Voivodeship of Kol Huro
  • Population: Each factory-cities requires hundreds of thousands, perhaps even toeing into the million line, of workers to operate at peak efficiency. Beyond these workers are the security hired to maintain order and to monitor the vast slave-like populations of the cities, and the administrators who maintain direct contact with the greater Empire and oversee construction of the Empire's every-growing military needs.
  • Accessibility: For non-workers and non-factory officials, the cities are walled off and access denied to anyone without proper clearance. The workers are housed in sprawling residential blocks that are built within and around the massive smog-spewing factories, with large boulevards serving as a direct access link between the worker housing and the factories in which they toil in slave-like conditions.
  • Description: The seven factory-worlds of Kol Huro are worlds of smog, clanking machinery, and the anguished cries of thousands upon thousands upon thousands of workers slaving away in oppressive heat and dangerous environments. It is here where the Sith Empire relegates the manufacturing of its vast legions of war machines and battleships, with unfathomable quantities of ore and raw material being shipped in from worlds like Dubrillion to later be refined in massive flame-belching foundries, then to be shipped to designed tank factories, walker factories, and armories across the planet's surface or to the orbital dockyards that wreath each factory-world like an iron cage.

Though all seven worlds are under the control of the Sith Empire, the Imperial Government has actually granted direct control over the system to a despotic puppet government called the Voivodeship of Kol Huro, led by the callous Neimoidian Voivode Aushrekiv Chifriox. Under the leadership of Voivode Chifriox the factories of Kol Huro have never taken a single moment of respite, with entire communities of workers dying in a constant state of perpetual toil as more, typically slaves from the Empire's unceasing conquests, are shipped in to work to their very last breath.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Factory-Cities: The surfaces of Kol Huro I - VII are dominated by Factory-Cities that process ore and raw materials accumulated elsewhere by the Sith Empire into armor, weapons, vehicles, and starships to be used by the Empire's military to subjugate other systems. Towering smokestacks spew poisonous smog high into the atmosphere, while run-off from the industrial plants stains the earth and pollutes what little bodies of war that remained undisturbed by the gradual expanse of technology and civilization. Workers are stuffed like sardines into uniform residential blocks built around the factories they spend their entire lives in, and are routinely patrolled by the black-suited thugs of the Voivode's police force.
  • The Orbital Dockyards: Above each factory-world is an interwoven systems of dockyards, repair platforms, defensive fixtures, and residential areas reserved for the administrative elite. The space above the planets are never still, with hundreds of small tugs and transports navigating the labyrinthine cage surrounding the planet pulling materials, moving unfinished hulls, or hauling in new shipments of slaves to work in the factories.
  • Office of the Voivode: Orbiting Kol Huro I is a massive skyhook designated as the living residence and headquarters of Voivode Chifriox, and the official capital of the whole Voivodeship. It is a resplendent palace of sleek white marble and gold trim, guarded by an entire legion of Neimoidian Royal Guards that served at the pleasure, or displeasure, of the magnanimous Voivode. The skyhook had its own garden, sports arena, hangar bay, and observation platform situated above the living quarters. It was also defended by several turbolaser emplacements and a squadron of droid starfighters.
DEFENSES
  • Each factory-city is policed and protected by several legions of Imperial Militiamen under the control of the regional government, the Voivodeship of Kol Huro. These soldiers were equipped with standard issue weaponry andarmor, and were organized into what basically amounted to death squads; roaming the pollution-clogged streets in a search for any sign of dissent among the worker population.
  • High walls and turbolaser emplacements protected the outskirts of the planetary factories, while a shield generator protected the factory itself. The worker slums and blocks were not defended in such a manner.
  • The orbital shipyards are protected by mobile gun emplacements and static towers bristling with weapons, especially anti-starfighter flak guns.
  • A defense fleet of frigates, corvettes, and cruisers protected each planet from attack. Kol Huro I was further protected by the Voivode's command ship, the Defoliation-class Siege Battlecruiser; Avarice's Jewel.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Kol Huro had served as a powerful seat of production for many centuries, even dating back as far to the time of the Clone Wars. In the modern era it was used by the Old Sith Empire to produce machines of war and war galleons for the Imperial Military, though due to its close proximity to the Imperial-Mandalorian border it was often subject to rampant piracy and raids; forcing the Empire to look elsewhere for a primary source of manufacturing.

When the Old Empire crumbled, the Mandalorians were quick to seize upon the factory system. They used it to bolster their own starfleets, propping themselves up as an empire in all but name as they conquered vast swaths of the former Sith Empire's territory. However, soon the Mandalorians would lose their grasp upon the worlds they had occupied, leaving Kol Huro alone to brave the darkness.

In their absence, seven dictators arose and usurped control over the individual planets of the system. Each one used the factories and dockyards of their factory worlds to wage war against one another, constantly vying for the spoils of the other instead of using their combined might to forge their own empire. Even as the Primeval blazed a trail from Anire to Dromund Kaas, the despots of Kol Huro remained locked in an eternal struggle against one another over petty and childish reasons.

That would all come to an end as a new Sith Empire, one molded from the successes of the past and shorn of their failures, rose up from the fortress world of Bastion. Under the command of the Dark Lord Kaine Zambrano, the Empire conquered the Pentastar Alignment and was moving down the Braxant Run at break-neck speed to accumulate as much territory as they could. Eventually their eyes fell upon Kol Huro, and as the despots continued to squabble over scraps the Empire invaded with overwhelming force.

Nothing could slow their advance, and one by one the factory worlds of Kol Huro fell into their hands until none remained to challenge their Imperial authority. Engineers and administrators flooded into the system to repair what had been broken by the dictator's foolish wars, and to bring the Empire's new industrial heartland up to snuff.

Oversight of this monumental task fell to one man, Aushrekiv Chifriox. For decades Chifriox had been known far and wide throughout the Outer Rim as an arms dealer and architectural visionary when it came to the machines of war. He had risen to fame during the reign of the One Sith as they held total dominion over the Core Worlds, and now he found himself serving the New Sith Empire in a similar capacity. He was granted control of the entire Kol Huro system under the title of military governor, and served at the direction of the Empire's War Cabinet as the needs of the Empire shifted when the front lines advanced farther and farther.

As war against the Silver Jedi began and systems that rejected Imperial authority were crushed, the Empire faced a problem of what to do with, and where to put, all the captives accumulated over multiple campaigns. By Imperial Law they were no longer considered citizens, but incarceration was projected to be only a short-termed solution to a larger problem.

Thus the Empire's elites came to the most logical conclusion; they would be worked to death on the factory-worlds of Kol Huro, benefiting the Empire with a large unpaid labor force, and slowly decreasing the amount of prisoners the Empire at on hand at any given time.

With the prospect of a Galactic War on the horizon, no one in the Empire's upper hierarchy expected the Empire to run low on slaves any time soon.

I like this submission. It's got plenty of history, and practical use, not to mention very bad-guy. I just have one question, and it's a clarifying one more than anything.

Do these factories cover the entire world they are situated on? I know there's one factory-city for each world, but are they planet-wide?

Answer this and we can move forward.

The wiki describes the planets as factory worlds, so I went with the idea that the planets don't serve much else except as giant factories.

So I suppose that, yes, there is one factory-city for each world and that they are planet-wide.
