Naboo would not burn on his watch, even if he had to fund its defense out of his own deep pockets. That resolve alone kept him in this stifling room, enduring a parade of mediocre defense contractors. Four bids had already dragged by, each more underwhelming than the last.
"PGEM has completely stalled, Director," Aurelian said. He didn't look at Renner, keeping his eyes on his own datapad. "Please take this next bid seriously."
A soft chime echoed through the office as the heavy doors slid open. Representatives from Roble Manufacturing stepped into the light. They were the fifth presentation of the afternoon, easily the strongest on the docket, and notoriously expensive.
Aurelian's lips curved into a smile as he finally lowered his feet to the floor. "They aren't cheap, but they are the best we have left. Let's see if they can actually build something worth buying."
