Private The Check-In

"He is not a pet, actually. He is moreso like a communications officer. He is my connection to Mr. Usher Mr. Usher and the Hive mind. I do not own him, I merely just feed him while he is here."

I kept silent, allowing for the two to talk amongst themselves. The protocol that keeps me from being in contact with my parents is not just because of the bounty. But because of something more. As far as I am are they are still on New Cov, working with a select few on a path to regain freedom for the Covie. I would of helped to spearhead it, but I had sought the assistance of those allies that I had gained outside of New Cov; only to have my ideas rebuffed. And so it was decided that outsiders could not be trusted for aid. Only the Covie could hold their future in their hands. Now I wait for word that it is time to join their rebellion.

I led them through the paths and into one of the small forests. Saul knew of it, for I had brought him there before. The same with other trusted members of the Diarchy. There was a little clearing; secluded and peaceful.
"Yes, it is quite different from New Cov. Here the plantlife does not want to eat you. It took me a little time to get used to that. But I am more accustomed to it now. And this is my favorite spot. Here I can practice my new skills without an audience."

Saul shrugged as they all stepped out of the lift. "It's something to do during my lunch and my off time. And you would be surprised how many species have adapted to the big city." The Android wasn't the type to actively write down notes while he spied birds through binoculars. But he did enjoy nature, and feeding birds who might not be able to feed themselves was a kindness to help them and soothe his soul.

When they got to Liin's secret hideaway, Saul went to fill the bird feeder he had put up while he had been here. As Liin and Judah sat down, the mad doctor mentioned that she could practice her new skills. Saul couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he filled the feeder up to the brim. He could have said those skills were blushing while he tried to flirt with the Blonde, but he doubted she wanted to relive that memory. Especially in front of someone she probably looked at as a second father.

Communications officer? Judah had seen the symbiote creature in its enclosure. He had no doubt it was intelligent but it was a stretch for him to see the symbiote as a communication officer. He was going to keep quiet though, there was no reason to doubt Liin. He just found it incredulous to think about was all.

"Yes, not having the environment eat you is a plus. Might take some of the thrill out of bird watching though."

Judah chuckled at his own lame joke. Mister Whesai seemed to be just as interested in the birds. Given the mans unstable nature - or what he considered unstable - what did it say about himself? Another small humorless chuckle to himself as he subtly observed the feed brought for the birds. The old salvager wanted to see what attracted the city types without appearing too uneducated.

"Skills? Your Force skills? Is that prudent? Bale makes it seem as if one needs an experienced teacher."

I cannot help but let out a gentle laugh at the joke. It was a genuine one too. I do not feel carefree enough just yet to not keep mostly everything bottled up inside. I do so out of caution; both for myself as well as those around me.

A soft blanket of mossy grass provides a perfect sitting place, and so I take the initiative and do so first. I did not bring any refreshments this time, which I silently chide myself for the social faux pas. But I am used to being on my own. In my old life I hardly had time for privacy; and now there is an abundance of it for me.

At his mention of Bale and having a teacher, I politely shook my head in response. "
He does not know. Balun detested my research as it is. I could only imagine how upset he would be if he found out that I had tested it on myself. So please do not tell him. The less people that know; the better." And I am firm in that stance. My privacy is the only thing that I can control in this Galaxy, and so I keep a firm grip on it.

"
But I practice because bad things happen if I am not careful. There is a residual effect that happens if I have an outburst of energy. Think of it like a tidal wave. The further from the epicenter it is; the worst that it gets. Strange anomolies have been occuring. I have been documenting them. This was not something that I had anticipated." But it is something that I plan to fix. All of it. I promised Karlo Kyrr Karlo Kyrr that I would. The second phase of my research will begin soon.

Saul focused on the birds now coming to the feeder as they let them talk. Unfortuantly he didn't have alot to say in this conversation of people he didn't know and powers he knew almost the same as Liin about. Which was nothing. Turning into one of the birds he was looking at would be nice right now. They didn't have to try to be interested in conversations or know just what to say did they? Maybe they did with all the chirping. Either way, spacing out to the sounds of flapping was a really nice new activity for him to get into.

"Trust me, I don't speak of the Force with Balun. Sore subject."

A very sore subject. Apparently Liin had also been apart of the sore subject the Force was with Balun. Judah could appreciate how passionate his son was, it was a good sign. A sign he took these things seriously. Yet like every other young man he thought he was right, that his view was the only one that mattered. A hazard of youth.

"Your secrets are safe with me Liin, don't worry. In fact I haven't seen Balun much at all."

Another oddity but one not meant for company.

"Mister Whesai are you part of this Force wielding club? Tell me I'm not alone."

In truth I had not seen nor heard from Balun in quite some time. Not since the dinner at Mister Dashiell's residence. Perhaps he is busy looking after his son. It is not as though he needs to work and earn to make a living.

I bow my head in thanks as Mister Dashiell agrees to keep my experiment on myself a secret. And I do intend to fix it. One way or another. And if that works, then all the better. However I am certain that there will be others that would also disagree with a cure being created. I would still have to live on the run.

Instead of answering Mister Dashiell; I keep silent. Afterall the question was not directed to me at all. I shift my focus, searching the trees to see if I can see any of Mister Dashiell's guards keeping track of us. I am betting that they are out there somewhere.

How was he to answer? Saul could go both ways with this and still be technically truthful. Yes, he had powers, but they weren't natural. It wasn't like he was a Jedi or anything. "Lets just say I have some abilities and keep it at that" Judah didn't need to know the specifics on his powers, just thar he had them. Besides, they were touch and go at the best of times...

Saul could see Liin's mind was off somehere else so he decided to distact Judah with a question of his own. "So... your family really larger than life like it seems to be on the holo-networks." He didn't know really alot about Judah's family other than they were billioniares in their own right. Maybe he could be inlighted as the birds came in to feast at his homemade feeder.

Brows furrowed together. He looked between Saul Whesai Saul Whesai and Liin Terallo Liin Terallo ,curious as to Mister Whesai's comment. Judah was not one to watch the holovision. Typically he caught some of the news and that was about it. The salvager never had a device growing up and the pressures of military life as a young man kept him from it once he was free of Saleucami. When it came to pop culture shows and gossip, he was clueless.

"The Dashiells have been on the holo?" He could maybe see a business-news like show. Beyond that... "Back when I was young there were gossip columns about myself and Danger. I thought those days were done."

Saul shook his head and chuckled as Judah looked on in amazement that his family life was interesting. Most Billionaires probably thought the same thing aboard their massive space mega yachts, sipping expensive drinks made to order as they looked out at the stars. No, not interesting at all. At least to those who already had money."It's mostly a bio about your family as a whole. I know your one son, Maiki, and his mining company. He's turned into quite the rock baron and family man. Your other son turning into a Jedi. You must be proud of both of them." The bio had really only given him a surface level of the Dashiell Family, and he searched up the rest. They were an interesting bunch. How did he not discover Liin's connection to the family in all that? He didn't know, but he expected it would be a story worth telling.

Either way, the birds seemed about as interested as he was, slowly starting to trickle into their area of the park. Or at least, they were interested in free food from the bird feeder. Their chirping made the conversation seem a little less empty.

I have always hated the gossip columns. They tended to be nothing but made up nonsense made just to garner some attention and viewership. I ignored them wholeheartidly. And then somehow they must have started to focus on me; sparking rumors about Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell and I being a couple. People started to approach me on the subject, giving their own comments on the topic. And for a while I had only froze, for it seemed to have come out of nowhere. Then I ran. I was too embarrassed to remain in that line of work if people's only focus on me was for some made up love life that they created for me, instead of the work that I was trying to accomplished. They all just belittled me into nothing more than some lovestruck maiden trying to hide it from her parents. It was bad enough that my voice was never heard in the big corporate meetings, which was even further solidified once those false rumors began to spread.

I did not belong in the corporate sector. And I knew that I could not trust them for anything. Even as my homeworld was taken over. The Covie knew of this truth a long time ago. Throughout our history we have had to fight our own battles and could not rely on anyone.

With that kind of reasoning in mind; I know that plans are underway to free New Cov. An underground movement spearheaded by my parents. I was too much in the spotlight for me to participate in it, without endangering it. The Emergency Protocol was enacted. I just hope that they are not discovered until it is too late. I can only hope that my research is drawing people's attention away from them.

And in another social faux pas, I had allowed my focus to drift away from the present company. I chided myself a little for it, and returned my attention to them.
"As you can see, Mister Dashiell; this is a lovely spot. From being in a place like this, I can understand how many people mistake the same level of safety lies within every forest in the Galaxy. I am not the only one that lives within a bubble of ignotance. And to tell you the truth, I find that a comforting thought."

Judah raised an eyebrow as he listened to Mister Whesai's telling of the program on his family. It wasn't a real surprise. Most information was publicly available up to a point. Beyond that information could be obtained from former or current employees. Friends of the family. Things of that nature - it had happened before and no doubt it would happen again.

"Yes, I am very proud of both of them. They've turned into good men."

Talk turned to the forest and the park and Judah chuckled. Liin Terallo Liin Terallo had such an interesting relationship with nature, one he was curious if Saul Whesai Saul Whesai knew about. If they were living together perhaps the subject had come up. Either way.

"Yes, this is the type of nature many are used to." Gaze fell on the pair of them. "Well....I've seen Liin is perfectly fine. Is there anything I can do for either one of you before getting out of your hair? Resources? A promise to visit later?"

It gave me a feeling of relief to know that Mister Dashiell finally sees that I am not some hostage of a foreign government. If that was to happen at all, it would be on New Cov. Oh, how I long for the Covie's freedom. But I am confident enough to know that my parents and some others are working on it in the underground; silently plotting the insurgency and rebellion to regain our independence and neutrality. The occupying government may not be violently oppressive; but they still took over New Cov without thought to what the Covie wanted. When a planet holds a valuable and rare resource; it is the citizens that are just an afterthought. Already it has been hinted that the occupiers were granted access to New Cov's sealed domes by a disgruntled member of the Board of Directors in a bid for power. But he'll get his due.

To Mister Dashiell's question, I rose to my feet before responding to him.
"I cannot think of anything that I require at the moment. But when I have a spare moment, I would not mind visiting your residence by the lake again."

Saul had a small smile on his face as Liin replied. A lake vacation sounded great, but something else occurred to him. "Or you could give Liin a blank cheek for her research (or a planetary rebellion). Whatever floats her boat." The look on his face told both he was joking as he leaned up against the tree. Though getting a raise wouldn't feel too bad. "Seeing your lakehouse would be pretty cool though." Thats if Liin let him go of course. And given what happened today... he doubted that his stock was going up in her mind.

"You're more than welcomed to visit the beach house anytime, even when I'm not there. We have plenty of guest homes if you don't want to be underfoot. Just let me know when you're ready, both of you."

Just in case Mister Whesai didn't feel invited. Judah didn't know the entire story with the two but who knows, maybe they would be in one another's orbit for a bit. A mystery he wasn't privy to, but Liin seemed happy and not a prisoner of this place. Judah didn't know the woman's parents but if he did, he would have sent a message stating as such.

New Cov was in the High Republic territory now. Perhaps could pay an in-person visit.

"Of course. Liin I'll wire you a hundred thousand when I get back on my ship. That should see you through the next few months I could assume - three maybe? When the time comes just ask and I can check the coffers once again."

Moving towards Liin Terallo Liin Terallo he gave her a brief hug before turning to shake Saul Whesai Saul Whesai 's hand. Hopefully Liin would be fine but she did know his contact information. It wasn't as if he couldn't send a crew to grab her.

"See you around."
