Public The Chance for Opportunity & a Drink (Character Introduction)

Porta Fortuna, Nal Hutta

If one was going to describe the system of Nal Hutta in only two simple words; it would be disgusting and beyond revolting. To the hutt families and cartels that occupied the planet itself; it was a paradise after the destruction of their original home world of Varl in the pre-republic era. With many swamplands and industrial settlements built deep into the mucky terrain, the atmosphere itself was a literal death hazard as the skies were often pouring greasy rain and toxin choked the air. It was the apocenter of industrial pollution taken to the extreme. Among the terrible conditions that had taken hold of this planet; there were few buildings that were able to stand up to these horrible conditions. One such building was a large two story cantina in the Capital of Bilbousa.

The Porta Fortuna was one of the many cantinas inside the capital city on Nal Hutta. Built along the back of the main street and away from the hustle and bustle that often took place here; if one were going to describe it in the most simplest terms they would say that it was an unremarkable building of two stories made to resemble a mushroom. The place itself was foul; with an unpleasant odor and billowing smoke that poured from its cracked walls; not to mention that the sign was falling off of the rusty chains that it hanged on above the doorway. People on Nal Hutta that preferred some form of civilized atmosphere would find none of that here; but to the common criminal and pirate that happen to show up the atmosphere was nicer than other establishments on the planet. The regulars that showed up to the place were few in numbers but they made up for it with having connections to the major powers of the planet. Not many people would be desperate enough to show up to such a rundown place; but the cantina was often full of people looking to lay low from the hutts or were running from debt collection that they owed.

However on this particular day; did a hutt decide to drop by the establishment itself. A hutt lorda from the System of Sleheyron, Paranoda Mancheron Boggurobb otherwise known as Paranoda the Hutt. As he enjoyed the atmosphere of this rundown place better than going to a local hutt palace for a drink.

Climbing down from his borrowed swamp speeder; Paranoda the Hutt would push open the rusty doors to the Porta Fortuna. Breathing in the air through his nose slits; two words to describe it would be that it smelled like a swamp and and a land fill at the same time. A fresh sent to a hutt lorda. Slithering to the counter; without any bodyguards around himself as he found them to be a annoyance when he tried to talk to new people.

"I'll take 3 glasses of boga noga with an extra tatooine sunset on the side." Exclaimed the Lord of the Mancheron Kajidic; as the various regulars would look at him; bowing their heads in respect to a hutt. Although; they didn't need to and Paranoda himself felt uncomfortable. When you lived on Nal Hutta, showing disrespect to a hutt could lead you to unwanted trouble.

"Coming right up, Lord Mancheron." Exclaimed the Local Bartender; a Quarren that was behind the counter would be already mixing the boga noga into 3 large glasses on the counter. Preparing the tatooine sunset to be ready when the hutt lorda wanted it. Setting the 3 large containers down onto the counter for the lorda to take.

"Thank you; O'll Friend. I will make sure to leave a nice pay check for you." Said; the Hutt Lorda as he grabbed the drinks from the counter in one hand. Sliding himself into his local booth; that was big enough for a hutt lord to relax in. Taking a few sips from the bottle; as he looked around to the various regulars.

This planet was disgusting and made Holly miss the city. Even her small apartment on Coruscant was luxurious compared to this place but what it lacked in shine it made up for in substance. Underworld informants were gold to any journalist worth their salary and Holly wanted to be one of the best journalists this galaxy had ever seen. So she visited this foul swamp madhouse from time to time.

Today an odorous cantina was her recruiting ground and a new Hutt was her target. She was sitting at the bar when the Hutt arrived, which was shocking because Hutts usually didn’t dine with the mere commoners. This might be an extremely rare moment where Holly could chat with a Hutt. He didn’t even appear to have body guards.

She approached slowly but bravely with the air of professional drive all around her. The Hutt may have seen her already on HNN but she decided to introduce herself anyway.

“Hello. My name is Holly Starstorm. Could I join you?”

With the relaxing atmosphere of the cantina; Paranoda the Hutt had felt himself right at home. After a while of looking around at the various patrons. He examined out of the corner of his glowing reddish yellow eyes; a woman approaching his table. And it didn't seem like she was offering herself up to the hutt lorda. Once she spoke; he decided it wasn't any harm in his head.

"Sure, I don't mind some company in this run down establishment. Miss Holly Starstorm." He said in a flat tone; spoken in galactic basic standard to her. Moving some of his large bulk over to allow her to sit next to himself. Going back to drink his second cup of boga noga on the table.

Holly took a seat across from the Hutt. When the waiter droid came by she ordered a drink and another of the Hutts, figuring buying him a drink would be a nice way to start off this adventure.

“So tell me, why aren’t you at the Hutt palace? I think you are one of the only Hutts to ever drink here. Most people avoid this place.”

Just as she finished speaking she heard her voice in the distance. She turned to see the bartender had turned on HNN and there was Holly doing a recorded segment. Hopefully the Hutt didn’t dislike journalists.

When the reporter sat next to himself, Paranoda would adjust himself to better relax his entire form. Grabbing the other drink; as he had finished up his last cup of boga noga on the table. Knowing that she was trying to flatter him with a drink; he didn't think much of it and it didn't look like she meant any harm by doing so.

"Well, Miss Starstorm. The atmosphere is a lot nicer than being bogged down inside one of the hutt palaces on the planet. Not to mention that I am a unknown hutt at this time. Wouldn't look good for them if a rival started to appear." Exclaimed the Hutt Lorda; as he drank from the fresh bottle that was put on his table by the service droid. Brushing his black bushy mustache as gulped it down slowly.

Out of the corner of his eye; he had seen the reporter and was surprised that the reporter on the television screen was sitting next to himself. Although he had mentally figured that he could use this for blackmail one of these days; as he figured that a reporter sitting next to a hutt didn't look to good. Wondering to himself; about what her next move would be.

“Well I am sure you will make a name for yourself soon. Speaking of which what is your name?”

As he told her the reporter sipped her drink and watched his large eyes. She had not really had a ton of experience with Hutts before. They were a unique species to say the least.

“What line of work are you in? I am always looking for new stories and new businesses to feature in our trade section of the digital paper HNN produces. “

Of course they only ran legitimate business and most Hutts didn’t do too much of that and what they did do was a cover but it was a start to let her know what she was dealing with.

"Making a name for yourself is often hard, most people in the galaxy have an unfair view of the hutt species as a whole. Not all of us are murderous gangsters or run the criminal underworld from a fortress keep. As for my name, you may address me as Paranoda the Hutt." Said the Hutt Lorda; as he would grab the spare drink from the table; bringing it up to his mouth to drink it. As the substance would flow like a river into his large gullet. Until he had finally finished the bottle, setting it down on the table.

As she posed these questions to himself, Paranoda the Hutt would ponder to himself. Why was she a famous reporter talking to a unknown hutt at this time. There was plenty of opportunity for her to talk to the other more well known hutt lordas in the galaxy. Something didn't quiet seem right to him; but he wouldn't press her for details.

"As for my line of work, Miss Starstorm. My main investment at this time is manufactured goods that can be exported to other regions in hutt space. I think it is our right as a species to be independent from the markets so that others can't charge us a fortune for basic necessities to feed our people. I also am expanding into the food industry; as it would boost our reputation away from being criminals, by opening up eateries across the galaxy that people can try new food at for a fair price." Exclaimed the Lorda of the Mancheron Kajidic; going into vivid detail about his overall plans and operations that he would hope, the reporter didn't judge him for it. While he was explaining this, he would lean over and ask the service droid passing by for another round; to which the service droid would nod and zoom away to the counter for another beverage for the hutt.

Leenic coughed slightly as he descended towards the swamp world's surface, his thrusterpack's engines the only sounds signaling his arrival. The rust-covered Mando had been jumping systems as of late, (a vain attempt of his to avoid fighting in any more big conflicts for the time) and had gotten here when he realized that he needed money to fuel his little Nomad escapades. Figuring there would be someone nearby willing to pay, he told A-10 to wait in orbit with the ship while he headed down to look for work.

Gonna need a freakin' rebreather if this place's air quality gets any worse. He thought, resisting the urge to gag when his boots squelched into the swampy and acid-rain soaked terrain beneath him. Looking up at the building in front of him, he sighed and silently asked whatever god was up there if he would be able to make it off this planet without choking. After standing for a few seconds without an answer, he shrugged and began trudging his way up towards the Cantina.

Once inside, he was greeted with a bit more favorable of a sight: the air was slightly cleaner and drinks were available to buy if he needed something to wash down the taste of the atmosphere. But something else caught his eye: a rather wealthy looking Hutt sitting in a boot with what looked like that famous reporter lady he had seen back when he was in the Zweihander Union and actually kept up with the news. Figuring it best to shoot his shot now rather than when the Hutt was tired and wanted no business inquiries, he slowly made his way over to the table.

"Afternoon, folks." He said once he arrived, narrowly missing bumping into the service droid. "Now, I know you both are probably very busy at the moment, seeing as you are in an interview with miss Holly here, but I was swinging through the system and couldnt help but notice I was in the center of Hutt territory-you mind if I pull up a chair?" Using the force to pull up a chair, he sat down and made himself comfy before continuing. "That's better, now as I was saying, I had noticed I was in the center of Hutt territory and running a bit short on credits as of late. So, I figured that I would swing on down to see if there were any hutts looking for new employees of the Mercinary sort. You know, soldiers for guarding shipments, escorting you around, acting as bouncers in any of your fine establishments, etcetera etcetera." He then paused again, shaking his head and chuckling. "Oh, where are my manners? Havent even introduced myself and am trying to talk business." Then he extended his hand towards the Hutt. "Name's Leenic Ellsil, and yours?"

Paranoda the Hutt would wait for the service droid to get him his beverage, spotting out of the corner of his eye that a mandalorian had entered into the Porta Fortuna. Rare sight to see one on Nal Hutta; that wasn't hanging around one of the hutt palaces. As the Mandalorian had walked closer to the booth that he and his company had occupied. He would adjust himself a little more; wrapping himself up in his heavy black overcoat that was around his form.

Once the mandalorian had walked closer; Paranoda would watch him introduce himself and pull up a chair using the mystical energy of the force. Known to Paranoda that mixing with force users was probably bad business for him. Although; he was interested in what the mandolorian had to say to him. Since he was just starting to make himself known in the galaxy through his legal enterprises. Waiting for him to get done speaking before proceeding to talk back.

"That was certainly an entrance, Mister Lennic Ellsil. But I must ask you, why are you inside the Porta Fortuna Cantina and not seeking employment at one of the hutt palaces on the planet. They could provide you with a more pleasing atmosphere then this place and with twice the payment at that. Beyond that, I don't mind your company if Miss Holly Starstorm is okay with having a third wheel to the interview for a few moments." Exclaimed the Hutt Lorda; trying to pose this question to him. It was illogical to him, that a person seeking employment would turn to this place and not head to one of the more fancy hutt palaces on the planet. Something doesn't seem right about his credit situation either. Why not take credits from a unfortunate soul on the street and then move on; something fishy was happening. Paranoda was sure of it.

"Like I was saying to, Miss Holly Starstorm. You can address me as Paranoda the Hutt." He would say in response to the Mandalorian's question about his name. Reaching over to shake his hand as well. Before looking back over to Holly Starstorm; if she was okay with another person joining them for a little while. While the service droid came back with his other beverage; setting it down onto the table in front of himself. While he grabbed it to drink; once the reporter or the mandalorian responded to him.

A fourth person of interest entered the cantina, a man clad in armor and wearing a black cloak over it, at his hips were twin pistols, along with a vibroblade sword he had taken of an enslaved Sith runaway. He approached the counter and removed his helmet to reveal that he was a chiss, he was clean shaven and bald, with his left eye being replaced with a cybernetic one. His right eye, the one he was born with, was however, not red the way all other chiss eyes were, and was instead luminescent blue much like his skin.

"Give me something light." He says to the bartender, and looks around at his surroundings, to see what could only be a hutt. Hutts were known to be prime patrons for slavers, here was a perfect opportunity to advance his career, he had some cargo with him on his ship that might be of interest to this Hutt, an opportunity indeed.

He recieved his drink, took a sip and set it down. He observed the Hutt's companions, a mandalorian, a potential problem if things go south, and a woman who seemed to be no outward threat. So he watched her closely, he couldn't risk being blindsided if this Hutt were to not like him.

He downed the rest of his drink and left the glass on the counter, dropped the required credits on the counter next to it and approached the trio, helmet under his arm. Though he'd wait for an opportunity to politely inject himself into the conversation.

((gonna duck out now that you’ve got some proper drinking mates. Hope to rp together again when work slows down a little ))

The meeting was turning out to be an interesting one, though Holly was still on a deadline. She could perhaps write a small article for the business section about the Hutt. Not running a criminal enterprise was a pretty interesting thing considering the species.

“I am very glad to have met you Paranoda the Hutt. I don’t mind if we are joined. In fact I need to run. Let’s keep in touch shall we? Right now I really must go. Stories to chase. “

She bid them farewell and stepped out into the planets heat.

The Hutt Lorda would watch has the Infamous News Reporter Holly Starstorm would get up and excuse herself. Finding it quiet odd that she left without finishing the interview. But he wouldn't pry into her business; he was a noble and honorable hutt after all. Or at least as honorable as a hutt could be in these times of conflict. So switching his gaze back to the Mandalorian Leenic Ellsi and the new fellow that was near his table. Waiting for the Mandalorian to respond to his questions about him before allowing him to join him inside his booth. Although moving his hand over to allow the other fellow to join him as he had a sort of weird atmosphere about him that made him trustworthy for now in the eye of paranoda the hutt.

While all of this was happening; the Hutt Lorda of Darvannis would devour some food that had arrived for himself. Compliments to the chef, as Paranoda devoured the food faster than ever. While waiting for them to do any actions towards him. He would lean back inside of the booth reclining for now. Drinking his cup of boga noga after each bite and brushing his long grey beard that was on his face.

Leenic watched as the reporter left, turning back to the hutt in front of him once she was out of view. “Well, I’m here because I’m seeking employment in areas that bring less attention to me.” The Mandalorian explained, leaning back in his chair. “I’m currently trying to avoid just about every major player in the galaxy at the moment, seeing as the Eternal Empire has me listed as a deserter and the Mandalorian Union keeps fighting over planets. I just want something to help top off my ammo, fuel, and food reserves while I traverse the galaxy.” Then he leaned forward and rubbed his hands again. “So, Mr. Paranoda, does that satisfy your questions? Or do you need more information?”

Although moving his hand over to allow the other fellow to join him as he had a sort of weird atmosphere about him that made him trustworthy for now in the eye of paranoda the hutt.

The Chiss slaver gave him a polite bow of thanks with his wordless bidding to join them. And once the mandalorian's words were answered he'd inject himself into the conversation. Saying, "I apologize for being unannounced, I am Xurux Jeshal, I'm a slaver, and I understand that members of the Hutt clan have use for slaves. I was hoping that you and I might do business."

He was simple, straightforward, honest. No-nonesense, no beating around the bush. He says what he means and means what he says, nor did he pretend to be someone he wasn't. The Hutt was right to consider him trustworthy, within caution of course.

OOC: Mind if I join in on this thread? I already know Paranoda from a previous thread, but I don’t think I know anyone else here.
Glar Ulchtar was tired. The Pyke had been all over Bilbousa (the capital city of Nal Hutta) and quite frankly, it disgusted him. He was purchasing a variety of special equipment like landing gear stabilization devices, Water Purification Systems, a pinball machine and more for the mercenary group that he was a part of. He was also paranoid about getting diseases, something which large cities like this had quite a few of, so this shopping trip had been a rather exhausting task and he needed a drink. He walked into a nearby cantina called the Porta Fortuna and sat down at a booth near the entrance so he could see everyone who came in and out of the establishment. After ordering a cup of Black Caf from a rather self important looking (even through the gas mask) Gand waiter, Glar sat back and thought about the strange dream he had the previous night. He was on the planet Sleheyron which, oddly enough, was full of people despite the fact that he distinctly remembered it was a lifeless planet thanks to the wretched Bryn’adûl Army. Also in the dream was a Hutt who controlled the planet in this strange dream world, who was running a festival that Glar was at and he was apparently looking to buy some special equipment of some kind, and Glar looking for a member of the Chiss species who apparently had information that Glar wanted. Most people would have dismissed the dream as nothing, but Glar was a force sensitive (a secret he guarded very closely), and sometimes his dreams foretold real events. In fact, he had already been sent to obtain the specialized equipment, but on a different planet. To be fair, Sleheyron was relatively close to Nal Hutta on a cosmic scale. As he looked around though, he noticed that in a corner, a Hutt that looked identical to the one in his dream was sitting down, speaking to a rather powerful looking Chiss in a cloak and armor. After making sure he wasn’t still dreaming, his beverage arrived and he began to slowly walk over to the table while listening to what they were talking about, and waiting for an opportunity to politely join the conversation. As he got closer, he also noticed that a Mandalorian Soldier was sitting next to them. While he had never seen a real Mandalorian Soldier, Glar had seen enough war holodocumentaries to say that this was definitely one of them. He already knew that he ought to tread carefully, but this made it even more important, as he didn’t want to get on the nasty side of anyone who sat with one of them. As the conversation continued, Glar decided to politely ask if he could join in just after the Chiss (who up close Glar noticed had one blue eye and one mechanical one) was done explaining his profession as a slaver.
“Would any of you object if I joined your discussion?” Glar asked as politely as possible. The strange thing was though, that when the Hutt noticed him, his eyes seemed to give a hint of recognition. Had the Hutt somehow communicated with him through the dream? Glar wasn’t sure how force user dreams worked, but he hadn’t heard of them working like that. Of course, for all he knew, that glint in the Hutt’s eye could have just been a trick of the light, or something else entirely.

The Hutt Lorda would listen to the mandalorians' explanation for not being at one of the hutt palaces. Although he had found it quite odd that he was still looking for work here of all places; when the more fancy cantinas were around in the capital city of Nal Hutta. Although; he did understand that if anyone came to this cantina it was for the privacy and relative hiddenness of the place from the hutt enforcers on the streets. Although he had gotten his answer; when the mandalorian spoke about the Eternal Empire wanting him for deserting from them and that the Mandalorian Union was in more conflicts which didn't surprise him in the slightest because he knew of the warrior culture and their conqueror ways from the Giant Mandalorian War of the Ancient Old Republic Era. Once the mandalorian was finished; he decided to proceed to speak.

"Well; Mister Lennic Ellsil. That does indeed answer my question about why you have come here and I might have a job for you if you are still interested in one before you head off to your next adventure." Said the Hutt Lorda; leaning back on the booth's arm rest as it was like a personal lounger for a hutt of his size. He would extend his arm and pick up his last cup of boga noga from a passing service droid before his attention was drawn to Mister Xurux Jeshal; a mysterious man but nevertheless welcome company as he could always make more connections in the galaxy. He had listen to his words very carefully before considering the options that he was saying; Paranoda himself had liked conversations and business deals that were straight to the point, so when he offered him some slaves for sale that gave him an opportunity to expand his food empire using mostly sweatshop workers. So he proceeded to speak to him as well in the same sentence. "Slaves are normally other hutt business; but I will accept some for my workhouses on Darvannis. We can work out some sort of arrangement over payment and delivery if you are still interested in the proposal."

As the hutt lorda was speaking to the two that had joined him at his table; he caught out of the corner of his glowing reddish yellow eye a familiar face of a member of the pyke species. Although it wasn't uncommon for the pykes to be on Nal Hutta making arrangements with the Hutt Ruling Council or the other Hutt Families on the planet. He silently watched after finishing his sentences to the chiss slaver and the mandalorian; as the pyke made his way over to his table and asked to join him. Knowing that it didn't matter to him weather they joined him or not. He made sure to speak his mind before allowing them to interject. "I don't mind some more company; but I'd like to ask my guest before allowing you to sit with us. I do apologize in advance if they don't particularly like you or your species due to running spice stereotype." Paranoda would say; letting his guest decided weather to allow the pyke to enter into their conversation or not. Telling a passing service droid to get him a side of bantha steaks to go with his new round of boga noga cups that he had order earlier in time; as another service droid would set that order on the table. Although he didn't want to eat in front of his guest; he was particularly hungry today due to his genetic defect. So he begin to eat them in a polite fashion while waiting for a response.

"Well; Mister Lennic Ellsil. That does indeed answer my question about why you have come here and I might have a job for you if you are still interested in one before you head off to your next adventure."
Leenic smiled underneath his helmet, nodding slowly when the proposition was offered. This might actually turn into something after all, which was extremely fortunate for him. He waited until the hutt was finished addressing the other two that had sat down before he leaned forward to give hide response.

“Well of course, Paradona. After all, what kind of mercenary would I be if I backed down from a proposition?” He chuckled, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. “Only request I have is that I know what the job is and how much I’m being paid before I go through with it. I cannot tell you how many people have tried to pull one over on me, and we’ll just say it left them with a couple extra holes in their heads.”

The Hutt Lorda of Mancheron would be understanding towards his inquiry about the job and how much he was being paid for. So he had decided to answer his question while his other two guest were busy in their thoughts. Picking up his class of boga noga and chewing on the food that was brought previously by the service droid; he would proceed to respond to the mandalorian in front of himself.

"Well; Mister Lennic Ellsil. I don't doubt your skill with a blaster in the slightest and they deserved the death that you gave them for tricking a battle hardened mandalorian such as yourself. As for the job proposal that I mentioned earlier; it is quite simple actually. A shipment was stolen from my company "The Mancheron Association of Food & Beverages" containing several bottles of expensive wine that was made with our special process. Each bottle alone cost a fortune around 10 thousands credits each. All I am requesting from you is that you return them to my hands and I will reward you with 5 thousand credits and as a bonus; give you two of the bottles to do with as you will. Does that sound agreeable enough to you?"
Exclaimed the Hutt Lorda; putting down a map that shows the location of the thieves who stole his company's shipment. Although paranoda himself wasn't as ruthless as the other hutt families; he was particularly ruthless when it came to his company's profit margin and even a slight accounting error from his employees can lead to him becoming a rouring despot. So he simply waited for the mandalorians response to his proposal; picking up another bottle of boga noga and bringing it to his lips; watching as the cool beverage went down into his empty void of a stomach.
