OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create the standard infantry soldier for the Vaydralen
  • Role: Front line melee soldier
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Provided below
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Vaydralen Chosen
  • Affiliation: Bryn'adul
  • Classification: Shock Infantry
  • Description: The Vaydralen Chosen are the most common infantry unit of the Vaydralen military. They are equipped entirely with melee weaponry, and dedicated to close range assaults against enemy forces. They wear white armor primarily, though each warrior is allowed to add striped sections of color to denote their Clan of origin. They bear the individual crests of their Clans on their armor as well, though each warrior must also have the Bryn'adul insignia blazoned onto their helmet. The armor they wear is relatively light in appearance, with several sections of exposed skin visible to give the warriors a greater range of movement.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Medium
  • Unit Availability: Uncommon
  • Unit Experience: Trained
  • Equipment:
  • Combat Function: The Vaydralen Chosen are a melee focused shock infantry force within the Vaydralen military. Given the Vaydralen culture, and the general armament of the Chosen, one might be shocked to learn they are not the first into a battle. Often, the Vaydralen Chosen are the last warriors to be deployed into battle, used as a final spear thrust to break through and route and already weakened enemy force. While waiting for the call to begin their assault, Vaydralen Chosen will be used as a rearguard force, protecting the flanks of the advancing elite Vaydralen divisions while securing defensive positions for potential counter attacks. Once the call has been given, the Chosen will form into several wedge formations, launching multi-pronged charges at weakened enemy positions, and pushing forward until either they are defeated, or ordered to halt.
Strengths:
  • Shock Force: The Vaydralen Chosen are equipped with all melee weapons, and wear lighter variants of the standard Vaydralen armament platform into battle. This equipment, added to the naturally enhanced speed and strength of a Vaydralen warrior gives the Chosen the ability to rush across open fields faster than what enemies might be expecting, and deliver a close lethal punch before they can react.
  • Ferocity: The Vaydralen Chosen are the youngest warriors within the Vaydralen military, selected by the various Shipmasters for the promise in battle. Held in the back of most battles, these young warriors are eager to prove themselves in battle and prove themselves worthy of a chance to be promoted into the elite branches of the Vaydralen military. In battle, they fight with a fury unmatched by most foes, and rarely break in the face of even overwhelming enemy opposition.
Weaknesses:
  • Young: While their youth is in advantage, it also serves as a potential weakness in battle. The Chosen are more willing to take risks, expose themselves to danger, and less willing to withdraw in the face of determined opposition. In select cases, this can lead to entire groups of Chosen being isolated behind enemy lines, suffering heavy casualties and unable to regroup with allied forces. For this reason, military command must keep a tight reign on these young warriors, or risk suffering campaign crippling losses in a single engagement.
  • Range: The Vaydralen Chosen lack any form of ranged weapon, eschewing them in favor of increased melee weaponry. In the heat of the charge, this is an advantage for them, but should they be pinned down or surrounded by their enemies, they face the risk of being slaughtered at long range. This is one of the reasons they are held in reserve during combat operations, and only deployed when the enemy is already on the brink of collapse.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Vaydralen Chosen date their history back thousands of generations, back before the first of the Vaydralen Akra were built on Caerdar. In those times, the various Clan Leaders would call a gathering of their people every year, selecting the most promising of their youth to join his warband for the coming seasons wars. In those times, this often meant entire generations of youth being chosen, as the wars of the Vaydralen people left few survivors. It was only when the first Akra were created, the fortress homes of the Vaydralen Clans did the practice of selecting the Chosen begin to take on its modern form. Each year, the strongest youth would be chosen to join the Honor Guard, the warriors each Clan Leader took to fight in the wars of honor across Caerdar.

When the Bryn'adul came to Caerdar and elevated the Vaydralen people into their Covenant, the method of choosing the Chosen changed once again. Rather than being selected by a Clan Leader, the new generation of warriors would be selected by the Shipmasters of the Vaydralen and Bryn'adul military. Unlike in times past as well, the Shipmasters would not choose the youngest warriors who showed potential, instead selecting the most elite of the young adult potentials. This change in focus has allowed for the youth of Caerdar to train for longer periods of time before they are taken to war, bringing up the populations overall combat prowess.

The new Vaydralen Chosen, equipped with weapons and armor of Bryn'adul and Vaydralen engineering, seek to bring further prestige to the noble position they now find themselves in as they war across the stars. Every battle, they fight to bring honor to their Clans on distant Caerdar, and earn a place for themselves either in the elite forces of the Vaydralen military, or an honored resting place in the mausoleums of their Clans Akra.

Thova 'Mdanam Thova 'Mdanam This is a pretty solid sub, I like it. There's just one thing we need to address:

Equipment | Because you've rated the unit as large and common, you may only use weapons rated as Mass Produced per the chart I've quoted below from the Combat Unit template.

To increase your range and keep what you currently have, either both or one of the two (Unit Size/Unit Availability) would need to be decreased.

As always, if you'd like to give feedback, have questions, or just want to let me know that edits are complete, simply give me a tag.
