The Affinity of a Species

Or, how to choose a Race?

I'm planning on making a new character and I'd like to try something I've never done before. Deviant from a human. I'll forgo my love for such an easy choice of people and instead inquire in another direction,

Q: What is the primary racial affinity, (or racial benefit,) of the character you are using now?

___

To my mind I've only embraced a small few personally:

  • Corellian:
    Human
  • Affinity: Adventure, luck, adversity, and wanderlust.

[*]Coruscanti:
  • Any
  • Affinity: Modern, educated, tech savvy, and comfortable in diversity.

[*]Tetan:
  • Human
  • Affinity: Luxury, wealth, refinement, and cultural prowess.

___

So yeah. When you decided to pick your character's race? What were some of the primary affinities that you chose to exemplify? Help me see something new. :D

Reaku was wisdom and power combined with wanderlust and a lack of moral boundary. As in, his force alignment NEVER matters really. Hence the Witch tag. Race was Mantellian Human

My Vyperion Assassin Droid model was my titan if he diverged himself into a droid at first, it evolved into wanderlust incarnate

Energy Vampire (Prea and Baara) was a choice I made heavily for my love of the vampire myths (Nosferatu, Dracula, those types)

And Alderaan Human... idk what I was thinking there anymore

I wanted to do something new. So I dug up the Zhornee from the depths of my laptop's hard drive and vomited them upon this site.

I searched my hard drive too. Didn't find any Zhornee but I did find some Dragon Age Origins. Huh. We must have very different computers. :D :p

Vahla are very... flexible. Both in terms of personality and bodily movement. Rather than bones, they have a cartilaginous skeleton.

Also means physically weak - or did, until I lost the majority of that flexibility and gained technical strength when I was altered into a sithspawn (codex subbed and all).

  • Vahla.
    Near-Human.
  • Affinity: The Dark Side of the Force, The Cult of Vahl, nomadic traditions, cartilaginous frame, and physical frailty.

That's pretty niche. But it was definitely work a look. Thanks! :D

Codi has an atypical relationship her species. Most Togruta are born on Shili, grow up as part of a pack-hunting social group, and learn to shun individuality as betas to a given group's alpha.

Codi has never been to Shili since she was too young to remember anything. She has no idea who her parents are, and was raised on Coruscant from an extremely young age. As such, she doesn't speak Togruti, has no relationship to the pack dynamic, and even her headdress is imported. In fact apart from her racial sonar, basically the only thing that Codi has in common with other Togruta, the only quality she displays that her species is known for, is a predisposition to being a predator. She's a little more vicious, a little less patient, and she tends to think in terms of hunting and prey. It's not terribly pronounced, because Jedi, but still. It's there.

Mara is half-Zeltron. I've actually RPed...quite a few Zeltrons, believe it or not, and there's more depth and possibilities in the lore than just the surface image. To borrow your format:

Zeltron:
  • Near-human
  • Affinity: passionate, non-judgmental, sensitive to disapproval/negativity, easygoing, energetic, creative, curious
My first two RP characters on the internet were a Zeltron brother and sister, and their stories ended up going on for years and affecting a lot of the things I've written, directly or indirectly.

I am, perhaps, on the opposite side of the spectrum. I usually shy away from writing humans in SW-themed rps because there are just so many other great races in the lore that it seems a waste to do something so... conventional, I guess is the only way I can think of it. To each their own of course, and I don't mean that as a slight! Just my feeling of my own writing and outlook. In fact, after all this time, I actually find it difficult to write human characters, an area which I hope to improve upon at some point.

Every species has their quirks of behavior. Even subspecies as you've noted from different humans of different cultures.

I picked Ithorian for [member="Mir Nehrahn"] because I have always held a certain affinity towards nature. However, my desire to develop such a character stemmed from a pessimistic view of society. So, I created a character who grew up among a culture deeply rooted in their love of flora and fauna but whose experiences led him to believe that though the universe could be beautiful, it was mired by those who, through negligence or intent, existed only to destroy that beauty that he so revered.

[member="Tyl Ro"] became Kaminoan because I thought that the nature of her species (reserved if practically emotionless, soft-spoken, dedicated to their work and livelihood, slightly pretentious) matched the persona of certain Jedi quite well. Again, her development came out of the conflict between her species, her life as a Jedi, and the struggle to comprehend the emotions and motivations of those around her.

No idea if that description helps or not, [member="Jay Scott Clark"]!

I tend to stick with Alien Species, Humans are boring. Im not gonna list all my characters but the ones I write and RP often ill list. For me Picking a species is little hard, Their are almost too many to choose from and all of them are good in their own ways.

The list is..

Ithorian xD

  • Peaceful
  • Naturally strong and understand with the Force
Gen'Dai Ex:[member="Kezeroth the Malevolent"]
  • Very High Strength
  • High Stamina
  • Almost instant reflexs and advanced healing
Amani Ex:[member="Ghrom Xenos"]
  • Very Tall
  • Primitive
  • Strong & Cannibalistic
Filar-Nitzan Ex:[member="Shargon'Ta"]

  • Immune to physical attacks
  • Uber stealthy
Kaminoan Ex:[member="Rama Zhar'su"]

I chose Kel Dor because (1) there are virtually none on the sit and (2) they just rock! For affinity, telepathy, awesome antiox mask/goggle combination that makes it virtually impossible for people to read my facial expressions.
