SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Thaum-class Fusion Cannon utilizes fusion technology to produce a high-powered, short-range energy beam.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

+ Atomic Breath: the Thaum-class Fusion Cannon was built to mirror the infamous destructive potential of a disruptor. Through the power of fusion, the Thaum can discharge a short range beam of superheat that is potentially capable of incinerating organic matter and cutting through many defensive materials.
+ Icarus: targets within a few meters of the fusion cannon’s beam are still subject to extreme heat exposure. Depending on proximity, the result can vary from an unpleasant experience to life-threatening 4th degree thermal burns.
- Up Close & Personal: the Thaum is a heat weapon. As such, the longer the beam travels the more it cools and the weaker it becomes. It is most effective in close quarters skirmishes, as beyond short distances the weapon becomes ineffective against even generic defensive materials.
- Power Slave: the power draw required to initiate, control and focus the sub-molecular reaction into a beam is substantial. An adequate and reliable power supply should be chosen and vetted before installation, because fluctuating power when charging or discharging the fusion cannon can result in catastrophic destabilization of the weapon.
- One Quarter Portion: for operational safety, the Thaum is only built to store small quantities of pressurized blaster gas at a time. Although this significantly reduces the number of times the fusion cannon can be fired before needing to refuel, it decreases risk by minimizing the amount of hazardous pressurized gas being stored at a time.
- It’s Too Rad: the controlled reaction performed to generate the weapon’s superheated beam produces radiation that is harmful to some organics (notably humans). If not properly contained, serious long-term illness can result from exposure to an active Thaum-class Fusion Cannon.

DESCRIPTION

The fusion cannon concept was designed by Core Automata to act as a scalable alternative to disruptor technology through the use of nuclear fusion. The Thaum-class Fusion Cannon is a short range weapon sized for corvettes (and comparable craft) that offers similar destructive potential to it's more complicated counterpart, though with some increased risk in the form of radiation and the need for guaranteed power stability when active.

Rather than converting large amounts of blaster gas into disruptive, nonharmonic energy pulses, the Thaum-class Fusion Cannon makes use of controlled sub-molecular reactions in a chamber of pressurized blaster gas to incite nuclear fusion, then focuses the resulting energies into a tightly-focused beam of superheat. Although this doesn’t destroy targets at a molecular level like a disruptor, the resulting beam is hot enough to disintegrate organic matter and melt through many types of defensive materials.

Hey there. I'm not a huge fan of disruptor weapons for the most part, but I do enjoy a disrupter cutters. Generally for civilian purposes, but there we go. That said, this is fairly good across the board. My only request is that you soften some of the language in the following strength -
+ Atomic Breath: the Thaum-class Fusion Cannon was built to mirror the infamous destructive potential of a disruptor. Through the power of fusion, the Thaum can discharge a short range beam of superheat capable of incinerating most organic matter and cutting through many defensive materials.
At the moment this particular sentence cannot pass as it could potentially be perceived as calling damage should this be used in a PvP setting. A more acceptable alternative would be:
+ Atomic Breath: the Thaum-class Fusion Cannon was built to mirror the infamous destructive potential of a disruptor. Through the power of fusion, the Thaum can discharge a short range beam of superheat that is potentially capable of incinerating organic matter and cutting through many types defensive materials.
This is just an example, however. You are more than welcome to phrase it how you wish. Just keep in mind that the intent should be to introduce enough wriggle room for the opponent to dictate their own damage should this be brought to bear.

Please tag me when you have amended.
