It had been a long time since she had come to Ilum.
Since joining The AIE, Laertia had decided that if she was going back to battle then it was best to connect with her roots. She hadn't brought her lightsaber. That was because she was here to make a new one. She had instead brought only her shotgun and her trench knife, as well as the necessary parts to construct a new blade. Ilum mostly came in blue and green crystals, so she figured she would pick green, but if blue called to her she would go with that. But she was also here for something else...an old piece of equipment she knew to be here based on discovering an old De Lifte Family hideout that indicated its presence here. Some ancient heirloom of Moya De Lifte herself, the woman whose resemblance was born by her artificial caretaker.
She was dressed in her street wear, which doubled as armor, a black spiky jacket that was well insulated. Her sawn off, double barreled shotgun, an old antique she had bought in a pawnshop as a kid and used for years was holstered to her right thigh, a bandoleer of shotshells, mostly electric and incendiary, slung over her shoulder. Her knuckle duster double edged trench knife in a black sheath strapped to her left thigh. Her quarters aboard her old, beat up frieghter, the interior painted pink with black polka dots and lined with shelves of framed photos of her and the band of Jedi Shadows she had once been a member of. There were also photos of her various pet rabbits that she sometimes used in her magic acts. The frames had red and blue hearts of varying sizes painted on the antique wood frames.
Laertia had never actually been to Ilum to construct a lightsaber. She had gone to Ilum to kill a Sith attempting to corrupt an old jedi chapel in the mountains but she had never taken a crystal from this place.
Laertia didn't like using natural crystals normally. She wasn't against using them in a pinch of course but she preferred the advantages of synthetics. Her first two lightsabers had had synthetic crystals at their core. Normal blades felt too loose to her for some reason.
Laertia finished preparing as the ship landed on the cold surface and she put a knit cap over her very black hair. The scars on her face from the shrapnel marred an otherwise lovely appearance, her pale skin lit by the white glow of the lamp above. She strode out of her quarters...and collapsed immediately as a migraine started and she could barely think, let alone move. She had had to lay off her medicine to avoid damage to her internal organs. The pain was so great that in that moment she knew she would be tempted to climb into her power armor to relieve the agony as she silently rolled a little in pain on the floor of her old ship, disoriented and forgetting where she was for a second, everything feeling sluggish before the agony receded, everything coming back to her in the process as she stood up. She wanted her rabbits. She went to the cargo hold, where her magician equipment was stored. Her rabbits, each kept in a large comfy, spacious pen all gathered closer to their transparisteel pen doors when they spotted her.
Laertia opened the door of her black furred Rabbit named Durasteel, petting and kissing the rabbit's ears and head and stroking its soft back with her fingers, the rabbit nuzzeling against her. She petted it another few minutes before putting it back and taking each rabbit out in turn, repeating the process. She had raised all of them from babies. She felt better after that and stood up.
"You don't have to torture yourself you know..."
Laertia spun and spotted her biot caretaker, Moya, clad in long, heavy brown robes armed with her silvery lightsaber. She was escorting Laertia to the temple, since while off her medication and having no way to mitigate her medical condition which was unpredictable, it was actually an extremely bad idea for her to get into a fight. Crawling into the power armor she had retrofitted would instantly make it all more bearable...
"I don'tz wanntz to becomez duhpenndantz onn itt, Moya. I gotzta bee abul too tollerayte duh payne reggulaarlee." Laertia responded.
Moya sighed. Getting involved with the Jedi again was a bad idea, but she kept her peace. It was Laertia's choice. Her burden.
Laertia and the Biot walked down the ramp to the ancient temple, Moya drawing the extra warm robes to her body as she escorted Laertia to the ancient temple entrance, seeing flickers of blue and green amidst the snow. Laertia sensed at far distance two Jedi at the distance and grew a little tense as she sensed the giant animal there.
"Hiya, follkz..." Laertia said awkwardly but with as much enthusiasm as she could, giving a small smile. Moya gave a small bow to both.
"Yoo tooz needz hellpz wit a gyannt monnsturr?" Laertia asked, her injured brain suddenly giving her a bout of unwanted stage fright. She didn't hold their gaze for long.
