STRENGTHS
  • Ecological Warfare: This wood, when properly shaped, produces weapons and armor that is not only lightweight, but extremely resistant to sonic and kinetic attack, making it in theory excellent for swords and slug thrower resistant armor. Found on many planets, Taung War Oak is always of strongest quality when harvested from the six branch variant found on Mandalore, with other planets containing only five or less branches on their black, Bonsai Tree-like main trunk, with one branch being of the lowest quality in terms of resistance to damage from that which it is most resistant too. All other resistances remain as is. If the tree dies, than no matter the variant, it becomes white and petrifies incredibly quickly. If a variant is of a lower tier branch, than when it petrified, it raises a level in its sonic and kinetic resistances
Break Down of Variant Strength:

Six-Branch War Oak: Very High (Live Harvest), Extreme (Petrified) Restricted to Mandalorian Leader Characters

Five-Branch War Oak: High (Live Harvest), Very High (Petrified) Restricted To Mandalorians.

Four-Branch War Oak: Average (Live Harvest), High (Petrified)

Three-Branch War Oak: Low (Live Harvest), Average (Petrified)

Two-Branch/One-Branch War-Oak: Very Low (Live Harvest), Low (Petrified)
Generally regarded as inferior for harvesting except for the lightest duty guard/scout armors

Silent Kill: If used in Vibro Sword Designs, it generally reduces the noise to almost nothing

WEAKNESSES
  • Acid: Acid eats right through it
  • Ion: Ion damage corrodes and warps treated wood, which may lead to the entire item being replaced
  • Vong: Displays no resistance to Alpha Red and Baffer Pollen, both of which can rapidly rot it unless immediately treated. Vong Weaponry in general tears through it.
  • Difficulty of shaping: Normally all but Invincible to ordinary wood cutting tools, and as such require special heat, steam treatments as well as vibro tools made of very dense and tough metal like Phrik or Beskar to properly shape and cut the wood
  • Broad blades only: Due to the peculiar nature of the material, if made into swords, the blades must be broad to avoid compromise of structural integrity. You're not going to see anybody flaunting a wood rapier, in other words
  • Cryo: Cryo damage severely warps the treated material
  • High maintenance: The wood must be treated with resin of the tree species it comes from every six months to maintain it's quality. When growing the stuff, it needs severe tectonic activity to reach full maturity no matter where it's grown. Trees grown fair better if buried with dead flesh and blood near the roots. Also, only the very high, extreme variants make for the best armor and melee weapons in particular. And Petrified requires more of the tree resin treatments than live harvest variants
  • Lightsabers: No matter the Variant, Lightsabers can cut through it after two blows
  • Mandalorian Smith required: Only specialized Mandalorian Wood Smith's can craft this exotic material, though lower tier examples of items can be located easily for sale
DESCRIPTION

Taung War Oak is a versatile upgrade material used in grips, underlays, armor and weapons of a more ceremonial nature. Mandalorians will sometimes gift trusted outsiders weapons made from this material over something more personal to Mandalorians such as Beskar. First discovered in an underground Forest, it's working and shaping is considered a Post-Gulag Era artform whose smithing process is as jealously guarded by Mandalorians as the secret of Beskar-Forging is. Infamously difficult to work and shape Even for experienced Mandalorian Smith's with specialized training in wood cutting/carving, even a single piece is an intense labor to work, especially when cutting and shaping five branch variant trees and above, and a single flaw in the process can render an entire piece unfinishable. Six Branch Variants of War Oak Trees are found only on Mandalore, and more than a few Mandalorians remark on how astonishingly appropriate it is that only Mandalore-grown trees have six branches-one for each of the Six Actions traditional Mandalorians must abide by. For a Non-Mandalorian to be gifted with a weapon or item made of the Petrified Six Branch variant is a nearly unfathomable gesture of respect.
