---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
(+) Intelligent: Taran is quick-witted and good at grasping things. He rarely makes the same mistake twice, and is well-educated to build on top of his natural smarts. This lends itself as a big advantage in both politics and warfare.

(+) Charismatic: Taran is at ease amongst crowds, able to drift from conversation to conversation and find a rapport with almost anyone. He uses this usually to create connections and foster a general impression that he is a trustworthy and considerate person. Then he manipulates those connections to get what he wants, with little care at all for the other.

(+) Military Training: Taran has spent most of the 31 years either training for or actively serving in the military. Some of those habits have stuck despite himself. He has a keen tactical mind and the skills to go along with it. While he hasn't actually participated in more irregular things like a ship boarding to commando raid, he can at least say he knows what those things are about, and would be able to handle himself in most sorts of violence.

(+) Good with Keffi

(-) Lazy: Taran's intelligence has brought out the worst in him, and he generally prefers to do things the easiest way possible. This often clashes with his desire for power, forcing him to actually work his way out of a problem, or devise a solution that puts most of the burden on others. It's worked well enough so far.

(-) Selfish: After living a life dictated to him by others, Taran has finally reached a point where he can be his own master. He is almost entirely self-interested, caring nothing for the Holt family, Anaxes, or even really the Republic itself. All are means to an end, to take and hold on to power.

(-) Smug Snake: Taran is used to being able to manipulate people very easily. Those he can't leave him stumped, often at very bad times (and looking painfully awkward) at least until he devises a way to deal with them.

BIOGRAPHY:
A son of the prestigious Holt family from Anaxes, Taran's life from the beginning has been one of service to a greater government. For generations now, that has been the Galactic Republic, forged anew following the recession of the Gulag Virus.

For Taran, that has meant an education focused heavily on civil and military service. All the children of the Holt family are expected to enter the Anaxes Military Academy as soon as they are able, and Taran was no exception to that rule. He did not do it willingly, however, as he vastly preferred riding Keffis and managing the family estates, something for which he had a distinct talent.

There, Taran showed that the same quickness of mind which lent itself to calming beasts or organizing funds was equally skilled at grasping strategy and tactics. Before long he was moved up to the Naval Academy, and commissioned as an officer in the Galactic Republic Navy.

Taran found soon that he was smarter than most of his comrades in the service (or at least he thought he was) and that it was a trivial matter to advance on merit by making those around him look bad. While on the occasions that he actually worked at something, he showed real capability, most of the time he simply skated by on the laurels of others, undercutting them at the last moment. This trend in the way he dealt with others would continue as he mustered out of active duty into the reserves, and began to make inroads into politics.

Politics proved a narcotic to Taran, giving him a taste of power and authority which he grasped hold of. Slowly but surely, for there was a lot more at stake around a bargaining table then on the command bridge of a patrol frigate, he made himself an indispensable player in the local government of Anaxes, and finally got himself appointed Junior Senator to the Galactic Senate, a position which leaped in prominence when Coruscant was conquered and Anaxes made the provisional capital.

Periodically because of his background in the Navy he reactivates his command to stretch his tactical legs. This are usually small sorties, against outmatched foes, but he has managed to build up a reputation of being a solid commander.
