Teaching. It was something every Master of the Knights Obsidian needed to be prepared to do, but something that had been lacking in Gerwald’s formation. The skills he had accumulated through the force came from searching out various Knights of many persuasion until he reached the point where he could expand on his talents through intense training and practice alone.

He did not wish this for other squires. While Gerwald was not an expert in many things there were some talents he could offer. First and foremost, Gerwald was a warrior. Combat would always be the strongest of skills he could pass on to those rising through the ranks. If he could help to keep them alive by teaching them to defend themselves, then his portion was more than fulfilled.

There were other skills, however, some which could prove just as useful as knowing where to punch a person for maximum impact, or how to wield a blade without causing physical harm to oneself. This was his legacy.

Months had been spent mourning the loss of his dearest friend and deepest love. Gerwald had determined to find ways to honor the woman he had lost, the only one who appreciated him for who he was without demanding anything of him. It had been too late, by the time he realized he loved her to say anything, or so he had thought. Only recently had he learned she was still alive, and his hope lived with her. It only made him work harder at the path he had chosen to honor her memory. Gerwald was becoming the man, the lupine, Naedira Darcrath Naedira Darcrath already knew him to be.

He surveyed the training room, his black attire simple, designed for movement. What he intended to teach them did not require it, but he would be irresponsible if he did not take every opportunity presented to him to force the young to work on their stamina. Gerwald allowed a playful grin to tug at his lips. The groans he anticipated hearing from those gathered reminded him of how much he had enjoyed training younger warriors on Stewjon. He would break his students and build them into what they needed to become.

Gerwald stepped closer allowing his full height of six feet and seven inches to intimidate those who could be intimidated by him. There was something wild about Gerwald, his mane left loose to hang past his shoulders. His bright blue eyes almost allowed those who dared look long enough to see the wolf behind the man. He was vicious, Gerwald was ferocious, and despite the alluring kindness of his crystalline gaze, Gerwald was anything but tame.

“The true test of a skilled warrior is not how well they can use their skills when their energy is at its peak, but rather what can you dig from deep within when you feel as though you are wrung dry.”

This was all they would receive by way of introduction to the class.

“I hope you like running… because I do!”

She had arrived early, upon hearing there would be a class open to all she seized on the opportunity to learn. It would after all be the first bit of instruction she would have received since she joined the Knights Obsidian, from the moment he had entered the room she began to observe him the redhead’s emerald eyes studying. Aside from Voph and the Nightmother and a few of the Mandragora she had yet to meet many members of the Confederacy, so her curiosity was piqued.

He was tall, much taller than she was, and he had a wild look about him not in an unsettling way but in the fact, he looked like he was capable of and probably could easily crush her. She stood quietly as he began the lesson giving what she was sure was meant to be a very intimidating speech, though she would admit coming from him it was having an effect. Had the same speech been given by a jedi she probably would have simply shrugged it off.

And then he surprised her Running? She simply cocked an eyebrow at him slightly but offered no argument she was more than capable of keeping up with such an exercise. All those years of saber dueling didn’t leave her without some stamina after all. Unlike some Jedi she preferred the exertion to the sitting in the archives and reading all day. Most of the time what was learned from the force was through doing, at least in her mind.

Vyse entered exactly on time, though in truth he had been several minutes early. A former employer having been.. particular about when was "proper" to arrive. So Vyse thought it best to not risk angering his new comrades in case they shared such sentiments. He sat around for several minutes fighting back his anxiety. It had only been a short time since he had learned he was force sensitive, and now here he was in a order much like the Jedi and Sith of old. He had only joined a week ago, being saved from the crash on Ophideraan.

He took note of Taiia Locke Taiia Locke as she entered, trying not to seem strange to be waiting around nodding with a faint smile as she wanted into the class. Once it was time walking in himself. He got excited upon seeing their to be teacher, he was exactly like the stories of what a force user was like. Taller then himself and clearly stronger. Vyse for himself was not a push over, having risen to serving one of the more elite thugs for a minor Hutt. Though that was likely due to his unknown force sensitivity. Before being freed of his service by Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter who revealed such to him.

Vyse smiled as he stood at perfect attention at Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner speech, he was the perfect ideal force user Vyse had envisioned. Though he was quickly surprised by his sudden change in tone. Vyse's smile fading as he looked down of his own outfit, a nice coat red coat with a black shirt underneath and blue jeans. He looked back at him with his ice blue eyes keeping a neutral face realizing he might have picked a poor outfit. Not that he was opposited to such, having had much experience having to run around for his former boss.

Taramaz's practised and perfectly measured steps sounded throughout the hall, the phrik of his heavy boots ringing a soft tone against the floor. His revolvers held against his thighs by the magnetic grips, his shotgun held to his back by the same magnetic grips, but also strapped around his torso. His crossguard lightsabers hooked to his belt. His ten foot frame dwarfed all but the largest of wookies, and the emotionless visage of his helmet save for it's single, angular visor coloured in a crimson-red, demanded nothing but respect and discipline.

He was Captain-General of the Vicelord's Viceguard, he was a Lord Marshal in the Knight's Order of Obsidian, he was a King, purified of the taint that was illegitimacy. His hands clasped themselves behind his back and he strode in through the doorway to the chamber where the Master Gerwald Lechner had begun addressing his class. The stature of some of the squires and hopefuls reminded him not of future Knights, not of soldiers even, but of convicted prisoners dealt a petty sentence in years, who would not know the true hardships and benefits from the time they had spent in the corrections centre. He took slower, deliberate steps into the centre of the room and back, simply observing the lesson as of now.

Though that was not to say he would forget his disgust at some of the squires who seemed to think this was a Private School where their mommies and daddies paid top money while they moped along, staff being bribed to ignore them. This was not that world, this was the real world. He allowed his head to dutifully drift across the line up of acolytes, his gaze settling on a specific youngblood. This youngblood looked far out of place for training, unless the training was proper table etiquette, yet he looked the most prepared of them all.

His attention turned back to Master Lechner, who had finally put the challenge to the squires and knights attending. The Lord Marshal raised an eyebrow under his helmet, then lowered it. He had witnessed and experienced far more unusual training exercises, though it wasn't the exercise itself that intrigued him, rather the way Lechner articulated it. Either way, he doubted he would be expected to run, yet that gave him all the more reason to do so. It had been too long since he'd properly competed with his physical attributes.

Redd was, well in a manner of speaking. Late. For her though, it probably wasn’t going to be something that would be a once off. Filtering through all of the new scents, sounds and sights, was a constant distraction. Although the main reason for her being late upon this day, was the constant, “check ups” by the medical team. The wolf thought that those things were just a human’s excuse to poke and prod at her, but they expressed some concern at the fact that her weight wasn’t at the “appropriate” levels. She figured if they fed her the right stuff, like maybe some deer or even a fat juicy rabbit on a regular basis would do. At the moment all it seemed like they enjoyed feeding her, was vegetables and leaves with a small piece of meat. Vegetables and leaves? No one could sustain a diet on that. At least Redd couldn’t.

Bare feet pounded her form down the corridors as the loose clothing fluttered gently against her pale skin. Red, brindled hair, streaked out behind her and it was as wild as she was. Energy thrummed within as she ran and felt the wind slide along her bare skin. Although it felt different than when she was as a wolf, running; even in this form as she found out, the act still allowed her to release pent up energy. Although this form didn’t move like her wolf and so it wasn’t as fast. It wasn’t as trustworthy which frustrated the hell out of her. Through all of this and adaptation to human life, it made Gerwald’s invitation all the more intriguing. Mostly because he knew her, knew of her lupine nature and he knew this world better than her. If anything, she knew that he could help her adjust to a free life. One without chains and cages.

A familiar trace scent caught her nose and she soon followed it to the correct training room where Gerwald was teaching. Upon approach, her steps slowed while fingers slid over the black t-shirt and sweat-pants. The clothing made her itch, but mostly because it didn’t feel at all natural to be wearing this. However, as Gerwald had informed her, clothes were “necessary” for this new pack, but she never failed to protest at every opportunity. Putting them on was a chore, but she was slowly starting to remember to at least put on a gown. These clothes were apparently what she had to wear to ’this’ training session.

She hesitated at the door as she scented three other scents that had passed through this door as recently as Gerwald had and the wolf had to steal herself. People, new ones, made her anxious and trust was not something that Redd had mastered very well. In fact she quite often wanted to bite the medical team even though she was supposed to trust them. She was still waiting for one of them to show colours of deceit. However, on this occasion she pushed on through and noted the figures of the ones that she didn’t know with golden green eyes while catching the end of Gerwald’s last sentence. Of course he liked to run, every wolf did and a grin flashed upon her lips as the wolf stared out at those present through the golden tinge of her eye colour. It was the only indicator of how close the woman was to her wolf nature and unless someone knew about said nature, they wouldn’t understand.

Redd looked human in this form, albeit a wild unruly one.

A slight nod was given to Gerwald; quietly acknowledging the fact that she was late, before she moved behind the other three. There was no way she was showing her back to people she didn't know.

There would be a lot of surprises in store for anyone learning from Gerwald. He was as unorthodox as his nature. However, Gerwald was most surprised by the presence of the Lord Marshal. He was not aware his class was going to be observed. Perhaps that is not why he was there, but Gerwald could not see why another master in the force would need to learn beast language, or be challenged to run as if he were another student. Still, he presence was welcomed with a quick nod, before Gerwald continued.

The class had attracted a Jedi, the light side of the force oozing from her, someone not quite dressed to run, and of course one of his own squires. They would all be pushed to their limits if Gerwald had any say, though his steps took him first to the one who looked to be more ready for a day shopping in the markets, than ready for training.

“You’re going to have to be ready for anything. Attire or not, you more than anyone will be learning we can be put to flight in whatever we might be wearing. Lose the jacket though, simply because today we do not need to risk it getting ruined.”

Gerwald then turned his gaze to his squire, Redd Redd . She was late, but Gerwald was not concerned about that. A quick smile was offered, knowing she was irritated by the clothing she found herself in. Today for her was more about getting acclimated to her new “pack.” While she was used to being alone, she was a pack animal, and without being part of one for so long had taken its toll on her.

Finally Gerwald looked at the Jedi. Her robes were simply, well, impractical and way too traditional. That was Gerwald’s opinion however. There was nothing that forced anyway to wear a certain standard uniform among the Knights Obsidian as it was. Gerwald himself wore a different set of armor because of his ability to shift. It didn’t really matter he supposed, as long as the students learned what they needed to, and performed well under pressure. Today, Gerwald was going to find out what they were capable of doing.

“Shall we be off then,” Gerwald said as he started down the hall, running them into the city toward the arena where another surprise awaited them all.[/indent]

Way in the back of this class of assorted students stood Azur. He listened and observed, giving curt polite nods to all as they entered, preferring to observe a while before actually engaging anyone. He could tell he was among strong and distinguished company noting the stances, the small minor movements, the shifting of weight, the stiffness in a few and looseness of others. He himself had dressed rather lightly this time, forgoing his usual amber accented robes to wear a more plain lighter body suit, brown and accented in cream and adorned with a dark shimmering amber sash along his waist, his sunset colored saber tucked away for use at a nano seconds notice. It offered him comfort especially being around so many new faces as well as feeling the pressure of the force everyone seemed to be carrying. As a new face himself he was being reserved not out of rudeness but out of a desire to not get off on the wrong foot per se.

After the minor introductions were said and exchanged the young Jedi Knight listened in to Gerwald, giving a small amused smile when he heard they'd be running. This was nothing he hadn't endured before and regardless of surprise or not he enjoyed a hearty jog. Getting the blood pumping and being the physical specimen he was, he intended to keep right up and along with the rest of his classmates. Once everyone had filed into formation and began following along with Gerwald he kept pace, his body seeming to glide even though his impressive bulk would suggest otherwise. He was simply delighted to see what was in store. Why....one could even see a glint of devious enjoyment in his deep brown eyes.

Taiia looked around the room quickly there were many faces that she did not know, nor had she met, to be expected but she looked forward to the day’s events all the same. She directed her attentions back to Gerwald for but a moment and him studying the assembled students as she was, she he did her as she was looking around. Surely, he was evaluating them all not surprising with such a diverse group he would need to see what they were capable of and indeed she would do her utmost to not disappoint.

When he finally decided to kick off the run, she took off behind him, following him through the hall of the citadel then out into the city itself, never one to fall behind in anything she applied herself to if he raised the challenge, she would strive to meet it not seeking to overtake him but she would be only at best a step or two behind.

The wolf felt like she was itching and that the human clothes that she wore, made her feel like she were nothing but an imposter that clothed themselves in skins that were not her own. Like a wolf wearing the skin of… Well, whatever died to make the clothes that she wore now. Her nose scrunched up at the thought before she settled it aside. There were four others plus herself that had attended Gerwald’s class. Her golden green eyes glanced over each one, appraising them with what they wore and their stances. If this was to be her new ”pack,” then she wondered if all of them had managed to put their egos aside. The pack was only as strong as their weakest link and Redd had learned a hard truth long ago; one that would determine that her life would lead her here.

Many people were standing in poses that the wolf did not understand, as she herself stood relaxed and ready to move. Her head angled to her right as she tried to understand those that surrounded her. Tried to dissect them even though everything about them made no sense to her. Some of them were wearing more clothing items than she was and she failed to see why. Wouldn’t more material weigh the person down more than it should? Even now she felt the invisible itch that plagued her whenever she wore clothing. To her she was wearing clothing; albeit human skin. No one complained when she wore fur and asked her to put on clothes in wolf form, why was it so different to wearing human skin?

As Gerwald began to run, Redd didn't immediately follow the male. Instead she waited for everyone else to be off before she began to follow them at an even pace. Running was natural to her and with all of the exercise at the garden that she had been getting, on top of the fact that she was used to having a less than optimal healthy frame to kill on; she was used to simply running. Running was a favourite pastime of hers. It was simple in its intrinsic design of working not just the body, but the mind. It helped to clear it of the plaguing questions and mind maddening frustrations. It helped for her to simply focus upon the here and now. Draw her back from the abyss that her parents had warned her about many times before.

She knew the real reason why humans had been introduced into their pack, why it was so important to dilute the blood. It had been a part of her own personal lessons. Both of her parents had had humans as one of their parents. However due to her father challenging the old alpha of the pack and won, he became alpha and although pack law stated he had to choose a lupine as his mate, he had already mated with her mother who had already been pregnant. Humans, although she hated them now, saved her pack till the sith destroyed them. Drawing in oxygen, it filled her lungs before she exhaled. Each breath she drew in was as if she was meditating, even while her legs ran and her heart pumped inside of her chest to support the blood flow of bodily movement.

Her feet thumped against the pavement as she ran, while it wasn’t as quiet as she would have been on all four paws, she knew that with each day as a human being, she would overcome each hurdle slowly. The woman had to, for she owed it to Gerwald who had given her a second chance at life. A second chance at another pack.

Vyse paid dutiful attention to what what Gerwald was saying. His initial surprise passing as he understood what he was doing. It was smart he thought, supervening expectations would be needed. His own rollacoster of events that lead him here was a prime example that if your not prepared for things to not go as planned and roll with it your going to be in a hard time. Still though he wished he'd had dressed lighter. He quickly discarded his coat leaving it on his chair, at least it would be a good display of the level of thievery around here. With that he rushed off after Gerwald. Vyse didn't mind the running, already physically fit it was little trouble to keep up.

Vyse enjoyed his run though the streets, it was a little surreal. A mere month ago he was stuck on a ball of sand with thugs and cut throats, the idea of a group run unless it was for some petty robbery laughable. Vyse enjoyed this life faaar more, cracking a smile as he ran along with his fellows getting a look at some of them. He thought it strange as the women with the blood red hair seemed far too good activity, something feeling a bit off about it but Vyse shurged it off in the heat of the run. At least it seemed this teacher didn't mind people being late, so he privately thanked her for that. His focus after went squarely on Taramaz Laurs Vyse was equally confused and awe struck. The man was an absolute giant, dressed more akin to some kin or lord, he at least seemed to be of a high rank. So why was he here with the trainees? Surely he had better things to do. Regardless Vyse would keep a eye on him most of all, his curiosity of why he would be here killing him.

Metal boots pounded into the metal of the halls of the Citadel, hydraulics not yet activating. It would do no good for him to rely on machinery and allow his muscles to become slack. His red visor remained level as his legs pumped into the ground, propelling him forward to the front of the pack, keeping pace with Master Gerwald. No sounds of panting or breathing could be heard from under his mask, the voice modulator hid purposeless sounds well. Truthfully, he found the run similar to a brisk walk as a regular human when it came to physical demands.

He was not unaware of the heed taken to him by the over-dressed youngblood, a certain curiosity about his presence. A curiosity he was not surprised by, it was quite uncommon for an Obsidian Lord to oversee ordinary or unimportant classes such as this one, perhaps rarer or riskier classes such as duelling or piloting. He could even see a bit of interest in his presence in Master Gerwald, perhaps a reassuring nod was needed once they reached wherever it was they were going. It was not with the Master he was interested or concerned with, his purpose lay in the students themselves.

Something told him that he would be watching a few students of this class quite closely. Quite closely indeed.

Gerwald kept on an eye on which students would try to impress and which ones would simply take the run for what it was. The Lupine had no place for students that wanted to show off. Running opened up the lungs, it made one’s heart beat faster. There was physical exertion involved. One more trigger was needed to help them feel the stress of combat. The one thing Gerwald knew none of them would expect from him.

He led them toward the arena. Many a great fight had taken place in the stone structure which would serve until the colosseum was finished. History led to nostalgia, and while the Confederacy honored its heritage, they were building something new. Still, there was something to be said about using the arena for both sport, and high profile executions. It was the particular method that drew Gerwald to the arena for his class.

A playful smirk pulled at his lips as he stopped the run. They all stood in the center of the arena. The wolf gestured in a grand sweeping motion for the students to take in their surroundings. For a moment he let them soak up the history of the place. When he was satisfied their awe wore off, Gerwald spoke.

“Well… that was a nice run,” he began, “though I think some of you missed the point of it.”

Gerwald took in a deep breath. He did not care that he could have used the force to keep himself from feeling winded. The wolf loved to run.

“Today we are going to be learning a specific skill, one that was used in this very arena centuries ago. Many things are possible with the force. Some would say we limit it with our own short sightedness. We do not think it is capable of more. I want to challenge that. As your master’s should have taught you by now, you can use the force to connect to the world around you, and everything in it. That is what makes it possible to do even more. The small ant that annoys you can be manipulated. A predator can be diverted. You can use the force to speak to any beast, great or small.”

With that, Gerwald motioned to the beast masters. The ground shook as the gates holding back the creatures opened. It was the warning that Gerwald was not about to make their lesson an easy one.

“A Nexu, an Aklay, and a Reek. You will connect with them… you will calm them, control them. Use the force, sense them, reach beyond their presence and access their mind. Show them a picture of what you want them to do… make them want to do it.”

Gerwald turned to other master.

“Lord Laurs, you will assist me in ensuring these creatures do not kill the students? I would hate to lose a student on the first day of class…”

A chuckle escaped Gerwald’s lips. Fear would motivate them, or it would paralyze them. He wanted to know how each would respond. Like everything this was as much a test as it was a lesson.

Vyse panted, relived to finally being allowed to stop. He wasn't at the head of the run, but he made sure he was not at the back. He was lucky enough to be here and he had no intentions of seeming lackluster. He took in his surroundings, the ancient Colosseum from a time ages past. Vyse had not prior knowledge of it, but he could feel some sense of gravity from all those past events hanging over him, nipping at the back of his mind.

As soon as Gerwald spoke Vyse stood at attention, his hand behind his back as he tried to make his breathing normal to seem as professional as possible. Vyse's former boss enjoying such displays, Vyse being the only one to give them the rest being poorly mannered thugs. His focus totally on Gerwald he marked everything he said into his mind. Internally rising a brow at him saying they had already missed the point. He continued on as he spoke about the force, and the events that took place some time ago. Vyse wishing he had known they were coming here as to read up on it before they arrived.

He grew quickly nervous, he had not had any practice with his force ability prior to this besides his very limited natural danger sense. He steeled trying to shake it off. He had not lucked into this simply to fail now. As such, he took a breath though his nose and prepared himself.

He was not prepared.

Vyse could not hide his face of surprise at these creatures. Two of them looking like they would kill him instantly. His danger sense telling him to run as he was in utter shock. His dread only growing as he heard and was confirmed that he was indeed meant to some how tame these monsters. Hearing as he asked the other masters to aid in preventing the beasts from killing the students. Was he crazy?!

Vyse's mind was going a mile a second, he felt like if he didn't do as he was commanded he would simply be thrown out as a failure. This. Would. Not. Happen. He thought to himself. But.. he had no idea how to actually go about doing what he was asked. all the while he had not noticed the Nexu had simply been staring at him, with it's multi eyes locked until suddenly it started sprinting top speed towards him, it committed that Vyse was his snack, plaything, or both.

Vyse seeing this instantly broke his professional stance and ran as fast as his legs could carry him the opposite direction, he felt like if he ran out of the Colosseum he would forfeit his new position. So.. He did the next best thing he could think of in the moment. He ran to make the class in between him and it. After all.. There was some masters in between right? Vyse had not intentions of failing and it would look like he ran in a panic anyway. Regardless, he had one of the galaxy deadliest beasts hot on his heels, class or no class.

By the time they had reached the arena, all that she did was a sudden exhale which was the only indication that displayed that she had done any kind of running. Quietly, she took in the arena and the wolf felt some kind of flashback as she took in the high walls. On the inside she was growling, but she kept it to herself as her gaze drifted back to Gerwald who seemed rather pleased with himself and she wondered just as to what he had up his sleeve. Quietly she listened to the man speak and while her eyes drifted away from him, she certainly kept on listening to what it was that he was saying. Although even though she didn’t quite understand the history of the arena that she found herself in, she definitely understood the uses for arenas. Slowly, she drew in a deep breath and took in the other students once again, that was until the ground began to shake and she felt the prickle along the back of her neck as something told her that whatever was coming wasn’t going to be a pleasant one.

Instincts told her that she was definitely going to want to shift and be unable to, due to the fact that there were already quite a fair bit of eyes within the arena already. Her nostrils flared at the inconvenience and the irritation of the situation while she looked to the three beasts that entered the arena. Fight or flight was the feeling that she felt rising within and instantly she wanted to fight. Nails curved inwards to bite into the skin of her palm as she struggled with remaining within human form. The wolf wanted to leap forwards and fight, but as she drew in a deep breath, she shoved the fight or flight response down and while not necessarily listening to what Gerwald was saying, she listened to the sound of his voice to keep her grounded. At least for now anyway.

Gerwald wanted them to use the force but her pack, her parents had once told her to describe it; to visualize it as an aura that surrounded the individual. If they were to use the force upon an animal, then it was almost like a wolf using their aura upon another wolf to get their message across. Her head cantered to the left as she pondered this line of thought for a moment, but that was cut short the moment that another student started running as the cat like Nexu started after him. Her mouth gaped open at the pure cowardance of the fleeing student, but there wasn’t much time to ponder about the applications of the force as she lurched into action placing herself between the student running away and the beast.

A pale hand rose upwards with her palm facing towards the Nexu while her golden-green eyes, bleeding into a pure gold colour; stared down into the creature’s eyes. A growl was upon her lips but she felt the force, or as she called it, an aura rose up and she flung it towards the Nexu. She saw within her mind’s eye the Nexu coming to a sudden stop before her and sent the image along the aura that she projected to the charging beast which was intent on making Vyse its dinner. In a spray of sand, the beast came to a complete standstill before the redhead and she couldn’t help but blink in amazement.

Redd glanced at her outstretched and then looked back to the Nexu before her. Her head cantered to the right and she silently commanded the beast to roll onto its back; which it did not. Was it simply a fluke? A reaction that was pulled out of her due to the circumstances? Upon recollection of the events that happened in a matter of split seconds, she drew in a deep breath and gathered her aura. Golden eyes stared at the Nexu and expanded her aura once more to it, but instead of it being something that was flung, it was done with intention this time. Now what else did she do? Oh! Visualize. Drawing in another breath, the wolf saw in her mind’s eye what she wanted it to do and sent it down along the force to the beast before her. At first, the beast did nothing and her lips twitched with a slight annoyance, only to give her commanding image a shove into the animal. The Nexu dropped to the ground and rolled onto its back.

The run came to an abrupt end at what appeared to be an arena of some kind when she had first arrived on Geonosis because her run in with Kyyrk Kyyrk she actually had not spent any length of time familiarizing herself with the City, and shortly thereafter her own adventures with Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura occurred so even then she knew more of Ryloth and the Nether perhaps than the capital of the confederacy. Something she made a mental note to remedy, her own thoughts were brought to an end when Gerwald spoke next and told them what they would be doing. A nexu an Aklay and a reek one of them she had ever seen in person of course, but never had she thought to attempt a connection with one, she was about two steps forward when the Nexu charged.

Her first reaction was to go for her saber but she halted herself remembering the objective and before she could move the other woman jumped in to save Vyse de Valorous Vyse de Valorous she would spare a moment and watch, studying the woman and how she connected to it. It prompted her to recall the Nightmothers own teachings on communicating with the spirits it was a conversation an exchange not to impose ones will on the spirit or in this particular case the creature. With Vyse out of danger she turned back and stepped closer to the Acklay, it chomped its teeth defiantly and started to move toward her. No fear was present in her, she lifted a hand and simply spoke to it through the force. It halted for a moment processing the change then moved toward her slowly the agitation lessening with every step before it paused right in front of her and lowered its head. She placed a hand on its head right between its eyes and smiled at the vicious beast.

“See we can be friends” she spoke softly to it as she maintained the connection with the Acklay, and gently petted its head she simply gave it a suggestion that it should go lie down and it turned and headed back for its cage leaving her behind and she dropped her hand finally. Taking one last look at the Acklay as it laid down in its cage. Turning she looked to see how the others fared and what became of the reek and how the others had fared.

Taramaz' feet slowed in the sand, less force in each step, until he was at a standstill. He then spun around on his heel with a practised, military style, his hands clasping behind his back as Gerwald began explaining the lesson. While his gaze was pointed ever forward, sharp as a dagger, his mind searched the arena; the inner historian and student within him relishing in the opportunity to stand where Great Heroes of the Force once stood. The three beasts that came hither from the bowels of the arena at the mention of their species name were indeed a call-back to centuries ago.

He was taken briefly back to his days as a devote student to his Sith Lord's teachings, teachings of history, combat, philosophy and a hundred other subjects over the course of his own life.

"Well of course, Master Lechner. It'd be terrible publicity to have one of our students perish in a simple lesson, what with the two masters of the force supervising them..."

He was brought back to the present when one of the squires, the over-dressed boy who was hard-set to prove himself, broke from the group, sprinting behind the rest of the group. Not an unwarranted reaction, given the large, wide-mouthed, razor-toothed feline charging at him. He stepped forward, a hand beginning to raise from behind his back as he began to summon the force to grab the apex predator, but his actions were cut short by a red-haired student. A particularly fearless student who had stepped right infront of the feline and halted it.

His hand lowered, returning to it's partner behind his back as he cocked his head slightly at the brave lass. There was a familiarity in her, a certain feature he knew though he was quite certain he had never met her before. It took a minute before he placed it as a similarity between her and Master Lechner, a certain likeness in nature. He then turned his attention to the other squire... who also had red hair, although she was evidently a jedi to some degree, wearing their thousand-year old traditional robes.

This red-head had taken charge of the Acklay. A shame, he would have quite liked to force the noble-dressed squire to face the six-legged, insectoid beast. He shook his head in disappointment, raising two hands, one beckoning the remaining student forward with warmth and reassurance while the other reached out to the Reek with the Force, guiding it over with the same emotions he offered to the squire. He turned his head as the Reek approached him, a friendly rumble of a growl escaping it's beastly throat.

The Lord Marshal reached out with a gauntleted hand, brushing it against the left horn, up it's cheek and down it's head, down it's back. With his ten foot stature, it looked much like a man and a dog, albeit a very large dog. The difference was nearly four feet of height. With his other hand he gripped his white helmet and removed it, the pressurised seal breaking with a quiet hiss, he then stowed the helmet under his left arm, turning his head to the student, his silver-grey eyes inviting him forward with a surprising warmth of kinship.

Gerwald watched on as the students attempted to do as they were instructed. A hearty laugh left his gut as the overdressed squire ( Vyse de Valorous Vyse de Valorous ) ran from the Nexu that had decided the fancy clothed boy would be its next meal. There was always one in every group. Had Gerwald been one to make bets, as he had in his past life on Stewjon, Gerwald would have chosen him as the one who would. There was something about the boy that made Gerwald see it.
Pride beamed from his face as Redd Redd faced off against the Nexu and stopped it. He watched her closely in case she lost control. The initial stop had certainly been because of the adrenaline her system, instinct was a powerful thing for anyone, wolf or human alike. She managed to adjust and fine tune her ability to communicate with the beast, no doubt having the advantage of learning to communicate in similar ways to other lupine.
Gerwald waited for her to look his way. He nodded toward her, a job well done.

The next student took on the Ackaly. Taiia Locke Taiia Locke was certainly skilled in the force, not a novice in any stretch. Vyse and Redd were knewer to training, but this one carried herself with experience in such things. Perhaps the challenge was too easy for her, it certainly appeared as such.
“Do we need a bit more of a challenge,” he asked with a smirk.
Gerwald thought for a moment, but decided against it. The idea had been captured, and while he wanted them to understand the pressure these skills were often used under, they all had captured the idea of the exercise. All of them except Vyse. Despite that it seemed the other master which had accompanied them, Taramaz Arcturus had taken him under his wing. The Reek being Gerwald’s favorite, now under the calm care of the master force user.
“There is one final challenge for you all,” Gerwald began. “Convince them to let you use them as a mount and circle the arena in one lap.”

Vyse stopped his sprint, his feeling of danger suddenly gone as he turned around to see the deadly beast had been subdued, but surprisingly by a fellow student, closing his eyes for a moment knowing he would look horrible in comparison. He was surprised as he opened his eyes to a sense of warmth and kindness that broke though his shame even as the last of the beasts were picked. He saw one, Taramaz Arcturus one of the masters ushering him over.

Vyse sighed walking over to the master, truly thankful for his kindness but understanding he was likely seen as a coward now, seeing as another student had no problem. A bit angered as he felt it was not a fault of his own, he had not had any training with the force. What was expected of him when it charged him? These thoughts ran though his head as he approached the friendly giant of a master who had drawn his attention, one of the creatures now at his side.

He arrived at the master who desired him to come. Looking at him though finding it hard, feeling very insecure due to everyone likely judgement over his "totally" not cowardice actions. His feelings gone after a moment under the gaze of only warmth being meet in return. "I am honored Master, what do you wish of me?" Vyse had no real idea how interactions worked with the force users here, so went for as formal as possible not to upset anyone. He would assume it was more relaxed, but they could easily just be crazy. Nether idea seemed strange to him at this point as all his preconceptions had been thrown out the window once he was told to tame a large murderous cat that then tried to make him it's toy.

A gloved hand stroked the Reek, from it's vertical horn down it's head and to it's back. The Lord Marshal then brought the hand back up to it's head and continued the strokes, petting the large beast. He turned his gaze over to Master Lechner, his steely eyes meeting the masters, accompanied by a grin to fit the Devil. It was the look of the Damned God, shorthand in his culture's religion for Loki, the trickster god. He then turned his head back to an approaching Vyse, the smirk transforming into one of reassurance, his metal-toned pupils radiating warmth and comfort like the Sun.

"Don't call me master, the correct title is Lord. That man over there with the stylishly long hair is the one you should be calling master."

He gestured with an absent minded finger to Gerwald. While he didn't know the man personally, he had a feeling the descriptive wouldn't be too insulting.

"What I want you to do is form a bond via the Force with this beautiful specimen, and, by the end of the lesson, be riding on it's back. Don't worry, this one won't pounce on you."

He flicked his head towards the Reek, moving his hand lower down it's head, scratching the softer flesh under the chin, eliciting a deep purr from the creature. He led the scratch up the beast's jaw, making it lower itself to the ground. Leading further up until he reached the peak of the beast's chin and the Reek collapsed onto the ground, dazed by the overwhelming ecstasy and euphoria. He lifted his gaze back to Valorous.

"No reason to worry this time, it's not predatory by nature and I do believe it is all but unaware of it's surroundings."

He turned, offering a hearty chuckle to the cowardly pupil. It was all in good spirits and laughter after all, had he been a knight or master, he might've offered to take him to the local cantina and pay for a round of drinks as an apology. But not quite yet, this one didn't have the right social status, nor the right temperament for it. Though it did give him quite a good idea to inspire a bit of friendly rivalry and competition. He cleared his throat with a rough growl, then spoke, his voice raised to capture the attention of the students in the arena.

"To make this challenge a little bit more fun... the first to run a lap of the arena on their mounts will be given upgraded accommodation, in the Knights Dormitories for the remainder of their time in the Knights Obsidian, aswell as a round of drinks at the Dining Hall on my tab."

As quickly as his voice had rung out among the arena, he had silenced it, walking towards the Acklay and Taiia, the Squire who had taken on the largest of the creatures, and his personal favourite. He approached with a helmet under his arm and a friendly smile upon his face, his blond hair glinting in the sun.

"Beautiful creatures, aren't they? Sometimes I wish I had grown up as a stable boy for these things. I had the opportunity to ride one once, albeit a sub-species evolved on a snow world. Unfortunately they were not of sound mind, and I had to use more primitive means to mount them..."

He looked down to the grappling line on his left wrist, the memory of that fateful day, many a time ago. It was a true shame he had to resort to such measures, lassoing an Acklay as if it were a common steed. No, they were undeserving of such contraptions, they were stallions of another kind entirely.

"But do tell me, how does this one respond to you? Does it obey your commands with it's head bowed, or does it respond to your suggestions with enthusiasm? Describe it's emotions to me. Oh, and a little friendly advice, keep it in the sand, it's got the advantage, oh, and put your body under the crest of it's head for a slight speed boost."

He offered a friendly nod with the advice. He reached out with a gloved hand, holding back from petting the Acklay, suddenly aware of the bond some practitioners of the Force shared with beings they bonded with. His gaze turned back down to Taiia, the question rolling off his tongue as if he was a child in a zoo.

"May I pet it?"

She heard Gerwald call out the challenge to make it more difficult, she reached out through the force and touched the mind of the Acklay, again trusting in what she knew, not telling it to come but asking it to and it rose from its cage and trotted out to meet Taiia again, she placed her hand upon its head and it lowered slightly again. There was not submission but symbiosis, where a Sith would dominate or seek to control she knew the easier path was to connect with the creature to seek its assistance with what she needed to do, a far more efficient method than trying to dominate both the mind and the will of a creature.

Her own thoughts were momentarily disrupted by the footfall of heavy boots and then words addressed to her, she turned slightly her hand still on the Acklay's head and she nodded slightly to Taramaz Arcturus "They are beautiful, and gentle if you take the time to understand them." she ran her hand long the creatures head gently scratching along eliciting a small purring sound from the Acklay "Something the Nightmother taught me honestly, spirits and creatures like this are not easily controlled or dominated as they have a will of their own, and attempting to suppress it or control it can be violent." she smiled "In this case, I simply asked for its cooperation with this task. A simple exchange, it helps me and I promise to come visit and bring it snacks. As for if you may pet it, that is entirely up to my friend here. Though I do not think he will object."
